We did not sign up with Capital as their quote was highly unrealistic and laughable. We were quoted $23,500 and at least a week's worth of work for a 15x11 stone patio. That's $870 per square foot . Not to mention that the salesman kept raving about their top notch products and how they are one of the only company surviving Covid and taking pride in their work. Don't bad mouth other companies.. poor ethics. Numerous calls afterwards offering discounts even though we informed the salesman its a strong "No". We went with a local, small business for $7200 including a 13 feet path on top of the patio which was completed in 2 days with one guy. Final project looks amazing!!! For starters, they charge $2500.00 for a remit to build a 16x16 deck. After talking To the building department, that told me it's $15 for every 1000. Hauling away scraps, $1500, no demo, this is new construction, I guess when they spoke with my fiancé, S a women, I believe they thought she had no idea about this. When I asked them to look at the sight, they said she must be present too, I told them she's way with her daughter. . Had Capitol quote a 10'x10' pressure treated deck, only ~30" off the ground, replacing my crumbling back steps. I had already gotten three other quotes; doing my due diligence. Capitol's quote was 3x the highest quote and 4x the lowest quote. The Rep did the typical car dealer rhetoric, "oh, if you sign now and we can finance..." these are all ploys to dissuade you from seeking other contractor quotes. That wasn't the worse part... he was dismissiveness about me wanting pressure treated and touted the product they push...his vagueness on the verbal quote, 3052... when in fact he left off the word, "thousand" as in $30,000. Lastly when I said his quote was outrageous, as he was leaving he parted with, "oh I suppose you're going with a handyman". Not a good representative of a company. Being a retired senior, he must of thought I was senile or easy mark...NOPE... Do your homework, companies will provide free quotes, so get as many as what will make you confident in your decision and do not fall for the games these type of people play. read more

We had a sales rep come by to give us a quote for vinyl siding, we were shocked by the price, $30,000 higher than the other quotes we received! To make matters worse, they wanted to charge extra for the fascia/soffit boards, while every other company we looked at had that included in their price. On top of that, they were trying to overcharge for things like the dumpster and porta-potty. The sales rep wasn't concerned at all with design or helping us find the best fit; it felt like they just wanted us to sign the contract right then and there. They even threaten you with a "taillight pitch," saying you wont get a deal this good once you see their taillights driving away. All in all, it was a horrible experience. Nails, nails, nails! Still finding them! 4 weeks after they finished our siding project we are still finding them. Unlike they state in their contract, they do NOT use tarps. The work crew does NOT use high powered magnets to clean your property. "Clean up" each evening was done in the dark with a leaf blower. Which is utterly ineffective and laughable but I wasn't laughing! Especially when their lack of professionalism forced us to go out each night in the dark with flashlights and pick up nails, screws, sharp pieces of debris, trash and every manner of shrapnel imaginable so that our dogs would not cut their paws. Incredibly inconsiderate work crew. Even threw cigarette butts in our yard! It made the whole process very frustrating and stressful. If I could do it again, I would not choose this company. Neighbors who tell us how great the house looks are treated to an earful about our negative experience. Our frustration and anger with this was voiced during the process. Nothing changed. This work crew did not care. Utter disregard for our property. Did not care about anyone's safety. Did not care about our landscaping or yard. Did not care that two large dogs needed to go out through a path of sharp dangerous debris several times each day. At one point had ladders, scaffolds, sharp tools and sharp debris blocking every egress to our house for hours making us prisoners. I went apoplectic. But no one cared. Work continued each day in spite of our seething anger over the lack of respect for our property. In fact, we let our sales rep and project manager know about our anger over this and they both said "We'd appreciate it if you didn't mention the nails in your review!" Seriously? Did you actually ask me that? Yup, they did. In fact, our sales rep put me in touch with a man in upper management about the issue. A lot of good that did. The manager guy was completely condescending. I had a video of the minefield of debris, sharp objects, nails, and screws all over the perimeter of the house. This guy asked to see my video. I sent it and he STILL didn't believe me. Said "that video was shot days ago and it's all cleaned up now". No douchecanoe, I JUST shot that video. Didn't matter. Nothing changed. Now it's a month later, we just did some early spring yardwork and found approximately 40 nails on just one side of the house. My advice... Just don't. Save yourself the headache. I did not have work done by Capital Construction, this review is solely regarding the estimate process for a deck replacement. Rep came out to take measurements and pictures. Came back for what we were expecting would be to review materials and understand final cost. Instead we got a long and pushy used car salesmen pitch with video and background of every employee. Big emphasis on them being licensed, insured, bonded, and a trex premium installer (comes with labor warranty in addition to materials). After this waste of an hour we finally got the laughable intransparent estimate of $60k for a simple 12x20 second floor walkout deck. Then we were asked on the spot if they were our contractor or not and offered a measly discount to sign right there. I requested a copy of the presentation and never received it. They followed up with 3 automated emails and 5 text messages from Danny such as "was it price? If so, I might be able to help!" and "will a discount help?". This was our first estimate, but figured $50k+ in labor was absurd (Trex's website cost calculator puts decking, railing, fasteners and substructure at $4.8k plus whatever costs for ledger board, footings, etc). I helped build my friend's second floor walkout 12x16 composite deck for a total cost under $10k including all materials and machine/tool rentals. The other 3 licensed, insured, and bonded contractors we got quotes from were straight to the point in selecting materials and providing cost and came in at $23k (deckorators decking/trex transcend railing/poured concrete footings), $35k (timbertech decking/azek railing/helical pier footings), and $40k (trex decking/azek railing/poured concrete footings) respectively. All have been in business 20+ years with great reviews. We ended up going with the $23k proposal and the deck came out perfect in 3 weeks - they used a double ledger, zip flashing, z flashing, j channels, hurricane ties, etc. They went above and beyond repairing our rotted rim joist, flashing our door frame, and enhancing our siding. Footings, substructure, and finished deck all passed inspections first try. I would hope for the price Capital Construction charges no one has ever had a complaint about their deck (based on prior reviews this appears not to be the case). TL;DR: Don't hesitate to hire Capital Construction. The absolute best investment I've made into my home. My partner and I bought a house last fall and knew going in we needed to reside the entire home. We chose Hardie Board because we wanted the look and feel of wood siding but with the durability of the cement fiber product that lasts for 30-50 years. Jim Goodwin and the team at Capital Construction came to our home, walked us through our options, and worked with us to determine the best solution for our house. I appreciate their guidance and opinion about what to do with the siding as well as this was a new venture for us. They quoted us 2-3 weeks for construction, but ended up completing the demo, new wood installation, residing, new gutters, and clean up in six days. Jay and Eddy and their crew were incredibly respectful, communicative, and professional; I can't praise the team enough. Our home went from a lackluster New England brown to a vibrant, modernized country-road red with white trim. Take you through a high pressure sales cycle and push to enter your home when you haven't said they can come in. After giving as much detail as possible and allowing them to measure home, they will not provide any preliminary quotes. Incapable of doing business in a way that makes me or my spouse feel comfortable. Could read them like a newspaper in how they wanted to manipulate the situation. The rep kept pushing me about whether my husband would be there. None of his business. The "pitch" was over the top. The salesperson was in my backyard selling me in the most condescending way. He assumed I knew nothing about roofing. Let me be clear: this company does not have a different "process" or "formula" than any other company. After 90 minutes he left and assured me I would have his estimate the next day, A week went by and after numerous phone calls I was put in touch with a manager who went looking for the salesperson's notes. Finally, I was sent a proposal that was $13,000.00 more than the next highest who is a premier, highly regarded, and not an inexpensive roofer in the Boston area, This company is not ethical. I had construction inside my house with very expensive siding that should have made my house a tank using their words once the job was a nightmare. They started the job and disappeared for weeks at a time took almost a year to side my house. They left it exposed. I had water damage when the job was finally done. It looked great. In response to my previous review, I was just sent a new invoice for an outstanding balance. I was verbally told at project "completion" that I was done with payments, so I signed the form. I feel extremely misled by the statements made. The work is NOT worth the initial estimate, and considering all the things claimed in the contract " We give 110% to all your service needs," "we give more than you expect and pay for" "highly skilled tradesmen" and other promises of a full office staff to help you along your entire project, they did in fact violate their end of the deal. Their communication skills and client relations are beyond poor. They offered a $350 discount on the work ($9400 initial estimate). This is entirely disproportionate to the amount of trouble they caused me, the disregard for safety on my property, unannounced arrivals, customer service refusing to answer calls and giving the literal silent treatment, the installation of the incorrect materials (tried to charge me for the expensive materials but installed the cheaper ones), and taking 5 months to rectify problems that could have been avoided if they had actually done a good job on the very first day. My mistake for not doing MORE research, and reviews were good when I hired them. Looking now, every single review from 2023 after July is a 1 star. They also seem to have a few different yelp sites, so I may have missed the 1-star reviews. Do your research. Do not hire these people. We made a call to Capital Construction and in 1-2 days the=y where out at my house with masks on reviewing my project. They provided us with an extremely detailed presentation and proposal. We had other quotes but theirs was so much more detailed and we loved the suggestions their Rep provided so we ended goin g with them to build our new deck. We love how it turned out. We used Trex and they are a Trex Platinum installer which means new get a full 10 year labor warranty and a 25 year parts warranty. We cannot wait to start our next project with Capital Construction as they made the whole process extremely easy and they kept us informed the whole way through. If I could give this company less than one star I would. They completed a skylight install a few years ago and it has been nothing but issues. Water leaking all over windowsills and new floors. The team is impossible to get a hold of and have come out to "inspect" the issue 4 times and each time it is the same response...let's add more caulking. I have had multiple other roofing companies come in to take a look at the work and each of them has stated that the work is awful and would require a full redo to fix the issues. I was incredibly impressed with the sales process, quoting, and upfront diligence with the teams at Capital Construction. It has been over 1 year since the project was finished and greatly increased the value of my home. Since then I noticed a few items that needed to be addressed to hold the integrity of the project. I continue to have the most frustrating experience with the group at Capital Construction. False promises of scheduling a team to come fix the issues. False information that they stand by the work and will see it tough. Finger pointing between the board manufacture, caulk manufacturer and Capital Construction that leaves the consumer in last place. I still have caulk used throughout the project that is faded and not applied correctly (i.e. in board joints, to fill nail holes), loose boards not secured property, and even worse water penetration near the fire escape due to incorrect flashing and caulking. This has been a 4+ month process by myself. I just paid my final bill of over $30k for the job and I have yet to receive a single phone call from Capital Construction on what to do. read more

Customer service is practically nonexistent. For a company that 'prides' themselves on offering great customer service to clients, I felt they were severely lacking. The actual quality of the work looks good to me (as I'm not an expert on roofing obviously), but the entire process was a headache. If you bring up any concerns, you are met with condescending remarks and screenshots of fine print in the contract that absolves them of any personal accountability for anything. The company talks highly of themselves and how they do not upcharge/upsell products but they absolutely do and get different answers from different people in different department - I.e. one tells you "It was supposed to be x dollars but I gave you a discount on this additional work" while another will explain an invoice showing no discount at all and try to justify overcharging on a project that's already costing you $21k. I requested an estimate for siding and a picture window after my siding was damaged in a windstorm. Total estimate came to $52k for top of the line James Hardie and a custom window, trim and door encasement. I was pretty much all in until I stumbled upon the Yelp Reviews while the sales rep who claimed to be a contractor who moved into sales was still sitting at my kitchen table. Good thing I did because as it turns out, my house contains asbestos so James Hardie was never an option for me unless I wanted to deal with hazardous waste removal that would deem my home uninhabitable and probably clear out the neighborhood. You would think the "contractor/sales rep" would've known this since the asbestos is currently exposed. Hm. Oddly enough, there's another review about how Capital Construction did the same thing to another homeowner recently, sold them a product, (James Hardie), that should have never been sold due to asbestos and theydid have to shut down the project and Capital Construction did not do the right thing. I am thankful to that homeowner for leaving their review because I do not believe Capital Construction is an ethical company that would do the right thing. Stay away! Contracted with them to do the roof, deck, and trim work in our apartment building in Southie. The roof is leaking and causing damage to the top floor units in our building. The trim work is buckling after 6months. I have been contacting them for 6months via phone and email and still no repairs to the horrible work have been made. Had them come out to the house to give estimate. Seemed professional and used a drone to look at the roof. Explained would like to repair if possible knowing I had to replace in the next few years. They came back and presented me with a very expensive proposal to replace, something we hadn't discussed. This time a new guy that apparently knew about slate was present. Went overboard detailing the project management philosophy in order to justify the nosebleed asphalt pricing. I asked how I should trust them given their inability to manage a quote process. What should have been a straight forward siding job estimated to take 6-7 weeks took 11-12 weeks due to the sheer incompetence and lack of care or minimum attention.
