Mr Malcolm and his assistant were very accommodating at first. At our first meeting Mr Malcolm crawled underneath the deck to identify a number of issues and point out areas needing attention. But once we had paid a retainer and had them working on a quote for the rebuild of a historical deck, they were unresponsive and communication was non existent. We hand-held them through the application process but they didn't listen to our explanation. The "contract" they sent us to sign was incomplete, missing entire sections and had errors, which we had to point out. Still they didn't revise it. They refused to let us review materials prior to submission to the Historical Commission, which was required given the historic designation of the house. Kept insisting they knew better and had experience working with historical commissions. Their quote for custom rebuild of the railings and columns was so overpriced, that even the Historical Commission staff was astounded. Finally they pulled out of the contract because their Commission application was about to be scrutinized, and they had a lot of work ahead. They did return a nominal amount of the retainer to us. The company had come highly recommended, yet our experience with them was sub par. read more

My wife and I hired Jermaine to install a range hood and backsplash in our kitchen, as well as storm doors. Throughout the process, he was helpful and knowledgable. He provided me with several options to choose from so I could suit my budget, and was more than happy to answer my questions (which, as a new homeowner, there were a lot of). We had a basement leak that would not go away. We had wasted years and thousands of dollars working with other contractors and so-called waterproofing experts to no avail. Malcolm contracting services came and helped us diagnose the problem by suggesting very obvious (in retrospect) tests. They patiently quoted different subprojects, to help us decide how best to solve the issue. Once we scheduled the work, they showed up when they said they would, and finished the job before they said they would, at the reasonable price they had quoted. Jermaine and his crew are absolutely fantastic! We originally contracted with them to replace our existing living room flooring and replace an old, metal spiral staircase with wood ones that have a closet built out underneath. They did such a great job we ended up having them replace more flooring in the house, update our exterior doors, some interior doors and a few windows, update lighting in several rooms and install Ring security cameras in the front and back of our house. Along the way, Jermaine fixed random broken things in my house and improved our back patio with new lights, plants and a power wash...all without my asking! They had professional cleaners come out after the job was complete to deep clean the entire house. I've been chipping away at various home improvement projects for about 10 years and have worked with well over a dozen contractors. With that perspective, I can tell you that Malcolm Contracting Services is as good as it gets. The main reason is people, of, course. Jermaine Malcolm actually returns messages promptly, then even shows up on time to meet you. Go figure,he treats customers with respect. He's also very patient. In my case, I have a lot of relatively small detail oriented jobs that add up to a big job. Jermaine took as much time as needed, including several trips back and forth, to run through options with me. Jermaine doesn't do it alone though. His crew is very focused, skilled and creative. I threw everything at them ranging from hardwood floors to repairing water damage to drywall work to removing cosmetic rafters on a vaulted ceiling. The quality of work was excellent across the board and the price was totally reasonable. Next up, we'll be replacing a few entry doors. Can't wait.
