Bay State has been incredible to work with and I highly recommend them. We had a bathroom shower that was leaky and damaged the ceiling below. They assessed everything and gave reasonable options that evolved into a full bathroom reno. We looked at several other companies and Bay State stood out as the more responsive, professional, and reasonably priced. Andreina has been incredible throughout our journey - extremely responsive, kind, and understanding. She was always on top of things. Marcio has basically become part of the family at this point - he was here all the time to make sure things were being done correctly and supervising the various contractors. He was always responsive and checking in to make sure we were getting what we wanted and needed. Jaime was always responsive for all of our estimates and pricing. Robson and Jesiel were here frequently to help and were always so professional, helpful, and kind. Also David would reach out just to make sure things were on track. We had a complicated project that uncovered more pre-existing water damage leading to more work, and the Bay State team helped us through the whole thing. I've already used them for additional work in the house - one job to fix my decks and doors after another local company did a poor job - and planning another project with them now. As an owner of an old house in Dorchester I have dealt with a lot of different contractors in the area. Bay State sands out as the most professional and responsive. Initial calls for gut kitchen and adjacent bathroom renovation + removal of load bearing wall went well with Sabrina and Ray - they assured us they have done many similar projects in the area successfully and on time. From the many positive and detailed yelp/google/houzz/angi reviews that had great end result pictures, we were convinced to move forward. Sabrina turned around the estimate for labor and some materials allowance quickly along with separate helpful tiered pricing guidance PDFs for kitchen and bathroom finishes to be purchased separately. Tile guidance was a bit off and a few categories like vanity, counter, mirror, light fixture in bathroom and plumbing for kitchen were missing. Vendors showed us finishes across all price tiers so it took us an extra week to finalize selections. Unfortunately we were told this delayed the project by a month. We were asked to wait on the kitchen design until after the engineering work for removal of the load bearing wall and addition of shear walls. Since we had a choice on the location of the shear walls, we preferred to do the design in tandem. I used cabinets.com to create my own rendering of the kitchen layout we wanted and provided them the full dimensions. The day before the approved structural wall work was to begin they sent their own drawing which had the wrong wall locations. After talking to both David and Dayna we realized her and the designer were not brought up to speed on the engineering work. Dayna then setup a productive Zoom call with the designer directly and we got my drawing to be updated with a few suggestions and required spacing and panels. The biggest mistake in the project came from one of their subcontractors employees who removed the plastic cover over our basement sink and cleaned off tools and plaster in it clogging the drain. Bay State quickly sent the drywall guy back over to unclog it. The project took just under 4 months to complete. Bay State and their subcontractors apart from the sink issue did not cut corners, often went above and beyond, and completed top quality finishes. No up-charge on materials was another big positive. The actual work done by the plumber (Mr Fix-It), electrician (Marcus Quintino), tile guys, drywall guy, cabinets guys, floor guys, and painters (AJA Painting) was excellent and we are very happy with our new space. Marcio was the MVP of their team - always calm, listened attentively to our many questions, provided great suggestions, and constantly asked the subcontractors to clean up. If they forgot, he cleaned up himself. His wife also worked tirelessly all day cleaning up at the end of the project. Things constantly move around and change during construction and it was difficult to get a clear picture of the plan each day. Andreina and at the start Dayna heard from us every week and always answered the phone and tried their best to chase down answers from others and get us the latest information. The billing process is very straightforward and Andreina provided further detail on line items as needed. Jose was always positive and happy to pass along feedback from us to the office when he swung by. Sabrina provided helpful guidance at the start in choosing our cabinets, counters, and hardware. David continually helped move the project along and has ensured everything is to our liking while encouraging us to pass along any punch list items. I would recommend Bay State for their quality of work, integrity, and communication. I recently had the pleasure of working with Bay State Remodeling for a project at my residence. The project was adding an office, finishing the space above my garage as well as adding a mudroom. The project was started by another contractor who, after finishing approximately a third of the job, disappeared and would not communicate with me. Worse they had left a very large mess of construction debris in my yard. I reached out to several contractors to attempt to get the project finished. Upon hearing the project was already started by another contractor, most of the new contractors were not interested in engaging in the work. Bay State stepped up and immediately helped me feel at ease that the project was now in the hands of true professionals. Upon reviewing the prior contractors work they discovered several issues and explained to me my options. Jamie was instrumental in the initial onboarding of the project and assisted me with picking finishes. Andreina was my contact throughout the project and kept me informed on progress and what work was scheduled in the coming week. Marcio was frequently on site and was extremely helpful in explaining my options throughout the project and sharing his expertise from what he had seen on other projects. Baystate Refinishing did shower and bathroom wall reglazing, regrouting the shower floor and re-glazed my tub. The results were beautiful. My bathrooms look newer now! I also must say this is the way to go if your bathrooms need a bit of a facelift! The only con is the smell; it's pretty smelly so just know that's just the way this reglazing is. Where do I even begin with Bay State. I emailed Ray via his website email and he responded within a few hours. He came out promptly the following day to assess and take measurements. This is rare in Boston. Usually you are waiting a week before anyone even bothers to show up. Rays crew which consists of a Dolce & Gabbana glasses wearing plumber. D&G was an awesome plumber who does great work. The tile guy, Dalie, was very friendly and does awesome tile work. The entire crew was very friendly. I'm very demanding and have mild ocd so I can be a pain in the ass to work with. No one ever lost their patience and no yelling took place. Usually I get into an argument with contractors but not Ray. The work: I had Ray gut out my entire bathroom here in the South End and install a walk in tiled shower with frameless glass shower door. Everything was replaced. Even the ceiling. Ray's guys arrived promptly every day to begin work. Dalie even layed tile late into the evening to finish on time so I could use my shower and toilet as I only have on bathroom in my 700sqft condo. In summary, I would hire Ray again. It was a pleasure doing our master bathroom remodel with the Bay State team. My wife and I both have demanding jobs. Bay State appealed to us because of their ability to provide project management and help us find suppliers for the finishings. Our project manager Yuri was terrific. He kept us up-to-date each week on progress and the decisions that we had to make. Darly did the tiling, painting and finishing and his attention to detail is on display in the final pictures. Bay State made it very easy for us throughout the entire project. They did an initial visit where they provided us with a rough estimate on timing and cost, as well as options for layout and new fixtures. They then set up all of the supplier meetings for us on a Saturday and provided the specs to the suppliers to make it easy for selection. They took care of all of the orders with the suppliers and ensured everything showed up onsite to our house. Bay State also took care of all of the building permits and inspections. The only thing to be aware of going into any construction project is that you have unexpected things come up along the way that can extend completion timing. The initial timing estimate that we got was approximately 6 weeks. Our project ended up taking closer to 9 weeks. The Boston housing market is hot, so it can take days for inspectors to show up. This just means that there are days where nothing can be done. Also, be sure to ask how your personal selections on fixtures can add to the project timeline if some items are back ordered. I called this company to refinish my tub and tile and they told me they could come in the next day. I said great and scheduled an appointment. They said the tech would be there anytime between 8-10am. No problem. The guy came in around 10 which was fine. So the job gets done and I notice the next day that there's a decent size chip in the paint which will more than likely peel down the road. Of course I take a picture and I contact This company the next day. They told me that I should email them pictures of the chip so that they can determine whether or not this is covered under their "warranty." I then emailed them several pictures and I'm basically told that this happened after the painter left my home. Keep in mind that the painter was here on Saturday and today is Monday. I haven't even used my shower yet because I'm waiting for recommended 48 hours for the paint to cure. The masking material and tape hasn't even been taken off the walls yet. Also, I don't know how in the hell I could have caused this "chip" in a spot that I go nowhere near. This was probably caused by the painter as he was painting around that area or moving out his equipment. Anyway, Bay State was quick to point the finger at me and then tell me that they could send a tech to fix the chip for $95. Here's their email reply: "Thank you for your email and the photos, as we can see in the photo the chip was caused after the technician left the job site. Unfortunately this damaged is not cover by the warranty. We can come back and fix it and charge the minimum service fee of $95.00 Please let me know how would you like to proceed" Thanks but no thanks. I will go ahead and buy a product online for $20 that I can use to your cover up your incompetence and ability to own up to your mistakes. I wish I read some of the negative reviews on Yelp before agreeing to let this company paint my tile and tub. Don't waste your money. $695 is way too much for this company to not stand behind their work. This is a simple mistake that can and should be fixed by these crooks, especially since it will lead to peeling of the paint surrounding this chip. Don't fall victim to their "warranty scam." It hasn't even been 48 hours and they are already blaming the customer. Lastly, there was a huge slit in the plastic that was used to protect my brand new kohler medicine cabinet mirror that cost me $169. The slit led to small specks of paint getting into the mirror. Fortunately I was able to get this paint off by using nail polisher. Go through another company. I thought I was being nice by going local. Go through New England Glaze who actually offer a more competitive price and discounts for this type of job. Good luck read more

I did two full bathroom remodels with Bay State. They were great to work with from the beginning - within a week of signing a contract, Andreina came over to measure the spaces, talk through design choices and set me up with appointments to choose fixtures and tile. The crews that came out to do the work were all very professional. The project manager, David, stayed in constant contact by text message, answered all my questions, and accommodated my last minute requests and made sure any issues were handled immediately. The crew (David, Marcio, Darly, and Paulo) did a fantastic job in all the details - everything looks really good, and were fantastic about masks and keeping folks safe from Covid throughout. The plumbing and electrical crews they brought in were great as well. Bathroom 1 completed fully on-time, and bathroom 2 was delayed only by an underlying structural problem uncovered. Bay State was fantastic about setting up a consultation with a structural engineer and offered a great price to do the work themselves to keep everything moving as quickly as possible. I'm extremely pleased with how the project turned out - both bathrooms look fantastic, and I got every item on my original checklist of what I wanted out of a remodel. I appreciated their support and advice throughout the design and decision process, as well as a flawless implementation. Jose also refinished my bathtub, he was friendly, he showed up during the window time and called me half hour before the arrival. He explained to me about the option that I can have on the final finish. He also seals the tub area with many paper and tape to make sure the paint stays only on the tub. I would use them again for other properties that I own. They can take payment with the credit card machine. Requested a quote from Bay State for renovating and doing addition on my house. I got scheduled a call for the following Tuesday. I had provided via email that same day a licensed architect drawings of the project, with many details on the project, so that the conversation doesn't have to start from 0. They acknowledged receipt of the information. They had from Friday to Tuesday to review (it was just a drawing and a paragraph of bulletized information). On the phone Ray was unprepared - never reviewed any of the information. He was impatient, kept speaking over me or cutting me as I was speaking. I have an architect working with me, who drew up the plans, got them reviewed by the city, and got us so far as to be able to communicate with contractors. But Ray said they have all the professionals in house and have an architect they work with, and they would not work with someone else. After asking a few questions here and there, Ray said he'll review the information and get back to me. It's been over 2 weeks, guess the plan is for me to move on. read more

While we just wanted our bathroom redone, our 103 year-old building demanded more work and created challenges which were not expect. Bay State Refinishing and Remodeling addressed them all. First, the bathroom turned out better than expected and Bay State put together a great team: David, Yuri (Supervisors), Darly (tile guy), Marcio (carpenter), Jonathan (electrician), David "Mr. Fix It" (plumber) and Paul (glass guy). They even brought in a painter and someone to sand our floors at the last minute at our request. We had major issues that were unexpected and needed to be addressed like decaying joists, plumbing that was falling apart, and knob and tube wiring that had to be replaced. They addressed all of these unexpected issues and built us a beautiful new bathroom. During the project, we decided to have the wiring in our entire condo redone for safety reasons, which they did quickly. This included the tearing down of two ceilings and then a third one when it was determined it might come down at some point on its own. They seemed to do it all, and we only had to find another place to stay for three nights due to the bedroom ceiling that was close to falling and the floor work. Part 1 I did a lot of reviewing here on Yelp for a tub refinishing company. I even dropped a note to a few of you to see what your results were a or later. Based on everyone's success I went with Bay State and thought I would add my review. We made the appointment and based on recommendations here, asked for Ray. The day of the appointment was approaching and I hadn't received an email confirmation, nor a time to expect the crew. I sent out an email requesting a time and the evening before, got the details. Cruz showed up on time at 8:30 and told me the work will take a few hours. My wife met him at the end of the job, and paid him the price discussed on the phone. She then receives a paper that lists among other things, the actions that if taken will void the warranty- for example, if when removing the paper covering, after a minimum of 48 hours, the homeowner tears the paint, the 5 year warranty is voided. I immediately called and talked with Ray, who said there will be no problems taking off the paper. So, I began to carefully remove the paper, and after the first 4 inches, a small tear began. It was obvious the paint was applied very heavily along the top edge of the tub. I then called Ray, telling him my situation. He said he would call me Monday to schedule someone to come out and remove the paper (I talked with him on Friday) and as requested sent him pictures of the tear, along with other sections of the top of the tub showing the paper. I received a call Monday, instead, telling me to remove the paper myself, and if there was a problem he would come out and fix it.I am going make another attempt, using a utility knife carefully cut the edge hopefully separate paper and tape from tub edge. My question is, shouldn't the paper covering have been removed immediately after the painting was done, by the painter, not the home owner? When the painter of my apartment walls and woodwork finished, he removed his drop cloths And the blue painters tape he used! I will report back after part 2 is finished. read more

They completed the project on time, if not earlier than expected, and the cost was incredibly reasonable (we'd gotten quotes from 2 others). They were responsive to questions, and were really great about navigating unexpected obstacles. We accidentally purchased a tub facing the wrong direction, and they took care of it within hours by going to buy a tub that day, bringing it over, and installing it without any delay to the project. We'd also purchased the wrong toilet, and they helped us by taking it to FedEx to mail it back to return it (it was too heavy for us!). I had a super tight timeline to finish a first floor reno that included getting the bathtub refinished. After the first company I contacted told me it would be mid July (uh, no thanks), I was so glad I saw the Yelp reviews for Bay State Refinishing. Thanks fellow Yelpers! Ray was kind and helpful and booked me in in the time I needed. Russell arrived promptly on both days and did a great job. I was a little worried because we had new floor and bath tile installed. But Russell's great work took away my fears. And when the plumber accidentally put a scuff on the outside of the tub (ah, contractors!), Russell took care of it when he came back to do the non-skid and grout. Every step of the way, from the first call to the follow-up, I received excellent service and couldn't be more happy with the tub. read more

Bay State Refinishing exceeded my expectations in every way. When my fiancé and I bought our first house, we were thrilled with everything about it... except the main bathroom. It was pink AND salmon (both) with somewhat random black accent tiles with a pink/salmon/black mosaic floor. It really needed to go. I called Bay State Refinishing pretty much the day we closed on the house. Ray was very prompt in returning my call when I first left a message (I was up super early when I called and left a message, but I heard back later that morning). He then scheduled a visit to come see the bathroom within a couple of days, gave me a quote, and scheduled for them to start at his earliest availability. We ended up having to reschedule because we didn't realize we had scheduled the start date as Memorial Day, but they handled it well and were very accommodating. Everyone who worked on the project arrived early or on time, worked super hard, and were very friendly. David in particular, was friendly, helpful, and a total perfectionist about the work being done. The man who did the reglazing (unfortunately, I don't remember his name) but he was very friendly and communicative about the process, and routinely kept me updated about the progress and how long it would take- and I wasn't even asking! He just volunteered that info to keep me in the know and feeling on top of it all. Not to mention, it was in the upper 90's that whole day and he maintained a cheery demeanor in spite of spending the day in a full chemical suit in a house with no AC unit installed yet. (We gave him ice water for his troubles!) And finally, the work itself: it's fantastic. I can't believe the difference. It feels like a whole different bathroom even though it's just a different colour and new floor. It feels like a complete remodel, but for about 1/3 the price. Everyone I've shown has gushed about the difference and even the people who were skeptical about reglazing versus retiling have been completely wowed. I highly recommend Bay State Refinishing if you can't spring for a full remodel, but want to feel like you got a whole new room! read more

Ray and his crew did a great job removing an old bath fitters insert that had, surprise, surprise, leaked and then refinishing the original tub underneath to a glossy white sheen. They also put in some tile and new fixtures for us too. Talk about an upgrade! It's like having a spa in our place. Every interaction we had with Ray, David and their crew was professional and they did a great job of keeping us apprised of the work that was done each day. They even helped us avoid a major problem when our thermostat battery died when we were away. Big thanks for a job well done and I'd have no qualms about hiring them again. read more

I had a truly wonderful experience with Bay State! I bought my first apartment a few years ago and always knew I wanted to remodel the kitchen - it was very small and enclosed, and not my style. When I called Bay State to come out for a quote, they really understood my vision and my parameters and made me feel completely comfortable with the project. Being a first time homeowner and a younger woman, I did have some reservations about being upcharged or taken advantage of. Bay State completely quelled any hesitations I had. They were completely entirely and on board to do my remodeling on a budget. The best part about my experience with Bay State is that we not only stayed on budget, but my kitchen looks like the farthest thing from a budget project! Yuri, the project manager, was truly a rockstar. I was not staying at my apartment for the duration of the work, but Yuri constantly stayed in contact and was always honest about what was going on with the work, timeline, etc. Almost every job naturally has a few hiccups, but Yuri always had options to work around them and to make sure that I was 100% happy with the results. Yuri was always available by text or call whenever I had questions, and he was extremely patient with my endless questions. For a quick example of how great Yuri is, I had a very small amount of 2 walls that needed to be painted. Twice the paint store gave me the wrong color, which Yuri realized when it went up on the wall. I didn't think I'd have time to figure out what the issue was (whether I gave the paint store the wrong color, if they mixed it wrong, etc), so I told Yuri not to worry about it, and I could paint it on my own later on. When all the work was just about done, Yuri called me and said he just couldn't leave the paint like that because he wanted to make sure they took care of every last detail. They did repaint the walls the correct color, which was a minor thing but really shows how diligent and great Yuri is. Marcio also did incredible work. There are so many little things that don't jump out at you right away, but when you do notice them, it's truly a testament to how diligent these guys are. For example, I was really impressed that they tiled pretty far up behind my corner cabinets, that probably nobody would even notice unless you purposely looked up under there. It really goes to show that they don't cut any corners. From a coordination standpoint, Roger was always available to answer my questions and was extremely helpful in giving me information about vendors, when to order materials, where to get the best deals while still getting a quality product, etc. Being on a budget and it being my first remodel, I really appreciated that guidance. Overall, I would highly recommend Bay State for any remodeling projects. I am beyond thrilled with the result, and can't thank them enough for all of their hard work!! read more
