Just finished replacing two 30 year old fiberglass shower/bath units and could not be more happy with the results. The crew of Matt, lead carpenter and his assistant Lewis were outstanding. Friendly , professional and very knowledgeable with coming up with solutions for any problems encountered as is likely with 30 year old construction. I could not be happier with the project we recently completed with Mike and his hard working team. We completed 3 projects with Mike. 1st Project: it was a small cabinet/countertop for our basement. He finished it in 2 days on budget and the electrician and everyone was on time, professional and friendly. It looks awesome. 2nd Project: total gut of our upstairs bathroom. It required a lot of moving parts w the plumber, electrician, plaster team and tile folks. All the subs were great. He has a terrific plumber - Al whom we just loved. When working through the plans he suggested we move something and he was totally right. It's nice to work with people who have your back. Bill managed the onsite job and we just loved him. His eye for detail and desire to bring to life a beautiful product was evident. The bathroom was a big job. We moved windows, plumbing and brought laundry upstairs. It was big. 3rd Project: we remodeled the kitchen. We reworked plans together multiple times to make sure it was sound from an engineering perspective. It turned out better than I envisioned. Again we had Bill and the crew. Bill would go out of his way to make sure I got the look I wanted. I stinking love the soffits and the molding. He also gave good advice on things like the sink and a few other details that was welcomed. Overall every project came out on budget. Construction takes a while. It's not HGTV. They are working multiple jobs and the subs (plumbers/electrician) have their own business. I think you need to come to expect that. Mike has good ideas when it came to layout and ideas but you need to own these projects from a design perspective. Which can be fun and stressful (I wanted it to be HGTV worthy but I'm not creative!) I had a terrific relationship with Mike. It was professional and pleasant. I was on top of things and keep things going or asked questions when I thought things could move faster. I was organized because this was MY job as the home owner to ensure I had what he needed when the time came. (Example I had the pendant lights waiting for him a month prior to him needing it) he can me a little unorganized at times - but there was Bill and I to keep him going . Mike has a heart of gold and played zero games. I would absolutely work with he and the team with additional jobs in the future. We shopped all these jobs around locally and his bid was very competitive. read more

In the age of businesses over promising and under delivering, I'm glad to say there's at least one old school family business around that promises great work and actually OVER delivers. Mike at J. DiChiara & Sons, did the design for the kitchen renovation at our first home about 10 years ago and had done such a great job that when we decided to do our kitchen over at our new house, we'd have him provide a bid. Mike's design WOW'd us (especially my wife) and his price was very reasonable (unlike some of the other quotes we got from other designers). So that was the planning stage, but what about implementation? Well, the lead contractor throughout the job, Bill, was amazing. He was in full communication with Mike, his assistants and with me. There were a few issues that came up during the job (as there always are) and Bill brought those to my attention each time, walked me through the options and really solved each issue to my satisfaction. Mike was great communicating too and because of this, there were no unexpected cost overruns which is nice to see on such a large job. The end result was an amazing kitchen transformation that my family will be happy with for many years to come. If you've ever done a kitchen reno, you know they can be stressful as we are accustomed to these comforts, but thanks to Mike and Bill, this was anything but stressful. I guess you have to have bottomless pockets to get decent quality work out of these guys! They did the shittiest work and used up our entire budget only on the items that would make them the most money! They didn't touch the roof and mickied the kitchen floor to "level" it, even though those 2 things were at the top of our list of areas that needed to be addressed. They knew from the beginning we were on a limited budget, and were remodeling the entire house, and said they would "make it work" We did all the demo to save money. They never even got to the 2nd floor We wanted to get a floor from an outside flooring company, like Empire to try to save money, so we wouldn't run out of money, but needed the floor leveled 1st, but DiChiara refused to level it unless they were doing the flooring. So instead of getting a way better quality floor with a 100 yr warranty, they put in the cheapest shittiest wood paneling. When asked about a warranty and if it was durable enough for kids and dogs/pets we were told they use this flooring all the time and it was great quality and never had any complaints. Less then 2 yrs later, the floor in at least 2 areas bubbled because the dog had an accident and ripped off! Not to mention the gaps everywhere from day 1 one section where it just stops 1" before meeting the wall and the fact it scratches so easily it's pathetic. At least 3 wall were never smoothed over and leveled after plastering. One of which they replaced a window in and never insulated, so you can literally stick half your hand in between the gap between the wall and the windowsill, where a terrible draft comes in. There's a ton more shitty details throughout the 1st floor that they half assed. We spent $11K on cabinets, but no budget for knew joists in the kitchen floor, which we said would probably be needed, and now know you can see from the basement, so they should have had at least some idea about ahead of time. They budgeted $4K for countertops Then after over a month and a half of getting jerked around after we went to their granite people, (who don't tell you prices. They're color coded, with like 7+ levels) and we picked 2 from the lowest price point and 2 from a step above the lowest price point, we were told what we picked would put us $500 over budget! They them tried to talk us into famica, on $11K cabinets! So we found a different granite place, that was cheaper, and because we said we wanted to go with a different granite company, they pulled their contract. We ended up getting way better quality granite, and for all the kitchen and bathroom with sinks and installation paid only $3,700 and change. Theses contractors are scummy con artists. read more
