Ruy Barbosa is high off the charts in professionalism. He was responsive to our questions, and intuitive about our interests. He communicated with us throughout the project of installing a new Timberteck deck. His crew worked straight on through from start to finish without empty lapses of time. The men are so highly skilled. We continue to be happy with our beautiful deck. Therefore, we asked Ruy to install a Timberteck stair rail at our front doors, which also has withstood the test of time. We'd been concerned that installments like this would compromise the brick, whereby requiring a total rebuild, but a rebuild wasn't necessary. He also advise us on an easy and effective fix to divert water from flowing from the gutter and freezing to ice on those brick steps in winter. Brutal experience with them back in 2022-2024. Would take weeks and, more than once, even months to get them to come back and do any work (see screenshots of my text interactions with them -- note the dates). They were supposed to build a new rubber roof. It started leaking on 3 separate occasions (which btw was never fully fixed -- we moved on to different contractors who did address the issues). And like I said, it would take months for them to actually come back and attempt to fix anything. Often they'd come by, look at the damage, then I wouldn't hear from them for multiple weeks. Meanwhile, more damage continues to accrue to the walls and ceilings. The internal fixes they applied for the water damage were just patch jobs. They just plastered and painted over. Meanwhile, the insulation behind the wall was soaked and accrued black mold that we had to address later. Also worth pointing out a major blunder at the beginning of the project (see attached videos and pics). They opened up the roof, and left it open for multiple days without doing any work. Well of course a major rainstorm came by (which was on the weather forecast well in advance). Alll that water poured into the house in the middle of the night setting off fire alarms. After going thru the process of securing quotes and vetting contractors late last winter, we grew frustrated in some of the pressure techniques and extremely inflated quotes we were getting for a kitchen model. Fortunately, we came across Boston Framers earlier this year and received a very thorough and fair quote. Happy to say we accepted and the work was completed within the timeframe promised (approx 4-5 weeks) We have nothing but positive things to say about Rui and his team. From kitchen measurements/cabinet selection to the demo guys, electrician, floor tilers, painters, countertop installation team, cleanup crew, etc. 10 out of 10 across the board. Terrific job done by Boston Framers! We had contacted seven other contractors before getting such a positive response from Boston Framers. Our initial inquiry was sent on a Saturday, but the owner, Ruy Barbosa, replied within an hour. He met us the following workday to go over our needs and discussed various options. He projected confidence at being able to renovate our deck yet maintain its overall look. He was willing to work with us and the city's historic commission to preserve some key features of the deck. During the course of the work, Ruy and his staff were responsive to questions or changes that we requested. Communication with them was great. They were eager to please us and found ways to make the project stay on-time and within budget, even when curve balls were thrown at them. Overall, they renovated our dilapidated deck boards with composite flooring. They removed heavy railings and pillars, completely overhauled the structural supports, installed the composite flooring and finally replaced the railings & pillars. Additionally, we had them pressure wash and paint the deck. The cost associated with the structural supports and flooring was very much in line with what we believed was reasonable. My deck was rotting and all of the decking and railings needed to be replaced. I had been putting off this project because it was so expensive but with the birth of my daughter and the need to repair a hole in my basement ceiling, I decided to get some quotes. Ruy and his team put in a very fair price that was far lower than the price gouging of other contractors, and he uses TimberTech which is a better (and more expensive) material than most other people were using. I definitely had some skepticism that they could meet the budget without cutting corners but my due diligence regarding license, insurance and even watched his YouTube videos and it all seemed very impressive. Once I made the decision to start going, at 8 PM one night, Ruy and his team were onsite the next day working hard from dawn until dusk for the next week. He kept in constant contact and worked even around my unpredictable work schedule. There were even some difficulties that they encountered with the shoddy way the deck was originally constructed but they were able to get it solved. The final product is very beautiful and came in on budget and ahead of schedule. I also had them come to fix my basement ceiling which I opened a large hole into to get some plumbing done. I thought this was a small job but the team spent almost as long as they did for the deck to sand, resand, coat, etc. It was like watching Michelangelo carving the Pieta, such precision work and you cannot even tell that there was any defect. Other contractors said they wouldn't be able to match the same paint, or that it would look a little off - but turns out I didn't have to settle. High quality craftsmanship, great value, excellent communication - exceeded my expectations. My only complaint is that I didn't get these renovations done sooner so I could have enjoyed over the summer.
