Renaissance Masonry did an outstanding job repointing my entire basement which had crumbling mortar and damaged bricks all around. The house is 150+ years old and for a house of this age, using the right mortar mix is crucial as you don't want to cause any fractures to your fieldstones. I spoke to many Masons and decided to go with Kevin as I found him to have good knowledge of older homes and using the right lime content in the mortar. He was also very personable and respectful of the work area and the home. Kevin and his crew spent close to 2 weeks working in the basement and he even went a step further of inspecting and repointing some exterior portions of the home which would have easily slipped past the untrained eye. Kevin repointed, as in some areas rebuilt, my 123 year old fieldstone foundation. He and John came earlier than originally planned (it was fine for us), were professional, very neat, and did a fantastic job. My basement is transformed, and I no longer have to worry about crumbling walls and entries for critters. The job took between 2-3 weeks. They came every day and cleaned up after each work session. I had an incredibly smooth experience with Kevin at Renaissance Masonry. We were worried that the finished basement of our new home (fieldstone foundation) was getting some water in it as evidenced by a high moisture reading in the drywall and the presence of efflorescence on the walls. Kevin responded to my inquiry within several hours and was accommodating in coming out for a consultation. I had mentally prepared myself for Kevin to tell me that the whole foundation should be repointed, but he told me that as a whole it was in pretty good shape and we could start with repointing the areas that were more clearly degraded (moss growing between stones) which coincided with the places that we were seeing evidence of moisture. Because it was a small job, Kevin said that he'd likely be able to get to it in a month's time but was able to squeeze us in earlier than that. The day of the job, he and his assistant arrived early and completed the work on time, leaving the space clean. Kevin's measured approach in solving our water problem has proven successful so far as we've had several heavy rain storms and no more evidence of moisture in our basement. Not to mention that he was a pleasure to deal with start to finish. We'd absolutely hire him again. read more

A few years ago I paid a mason to repoint the stone foundation of my garage. This past fall the work began to fail, with the new and old mortar turning to dust, leaving large gaps between the stones. This time I hired Renaissance Masonry. They cleaned out the old and new mortar, filling all the gaps with a more appropriate lime based mortar. The Jon was very neat and tidy. Kevin and his team completed a difficult repointing job in my 100-year-old house. I don't think the interior masonry had been updated since the home was built, and it was crumbling. While the team was working, I had a contractor come to my house to give an estimate on another job. He had to pass through the basement, and when he came back up, he mentioned that the guys were doing a great job and taking care to get rid of the old mortar. One part of the job involved shoring up an entryway to the back part of the basement. When the previous owners added on, they literally sledgehammered through the foundation, leaving a jagged entrance to the new part of the basement with lots of stones that were not securely in place. As part of the job, Kevin's team squared off the entryway and put mortar in all necessary locations. Communication throughout the project was prompt and professional. read more

Hire this team!! I contacted Kevin/Renaissance based on the reviews on YELP. We needed and extensive lime-based mortaring job for my mum's home in Dorchester. I was comforted to see that specific type of work noted in the previous review (not everyone does this work). Kevin was prompt in his response, courteous, professional and stayed in constant contact. I couldn't be there while he was doing the job, which made me a bit uneasy (think contractor horror stories!).
