5 Stars. Excellent service. Krum is so polite and gracious. Really makes this a great business. Unfortunately, I had an insurance claim my car needed quite a bit of bodywork. My insurance company listed several companies near me to do the job and I read all of the reviews. This place had the most consistent, high 5 star reviews so I selected them to get the work done. The initial estimate was 1 week to 1.5 weeks, however it was 3.5 weeks altogether. They were waiting on a part and they kept me in the loop about the status, which I appreciated. Once my car was done, I noticed white powdery residue inside the car. I alerted them and they cleaned it all up so my car was spotless inside and out. Nobody wants to part with their car for repairwork, however Krum is super professional, welcoming and makes this place a class act. I really appreciated his efforts to make sure I was totally satisfied. Hopefully, I will not be back for bodywork!!! But I definitely plan to come back for a detail in the spring or summer. read more

Could not be more pleased with the Capital Auto Shop! Having only been in town for 15 minutes, my daughter's car was damaged while parked. I phoned Capital Auto early on Monday morning and they immediately acted to give me an estimate for the damage repair and promised they could have the car ready for my daughter's return to Maine on that Saturday. They contacted me for approval of the purchase of additional parts and as promise, had the car ready for pick up on Friday morning. The car looks brand new!! They even detailed the inside. We did not use the insurance company so that probably helped speed up the process but, I felt the estimate was fair and, actually, less than I had imagined. All of the people working at Capital Auto were great -- patient- polite - friendly. Absolutely bad service! Had a nightmare experience with this body shop! The delayed my repair for the first time but told me to come a second time as parts were not available. The second time they suddenly told me that they got the wrong part and told me to come for a third time, the owner was super rude and not apologetic at all. Upon further inspection, they didn't inspect the car properly and another part was damaged which they denied responsibility, Now I'm not even sure if the repair was done correctly. I would not go to this shop even if someone pays me to. Update: Got to know that they broke my suspension as well and did a shoddy job upon getting it checked with another service person. I recently went in for a quote and had a great experience. I can't speak for their actual work because I ended up choosing another repair shop that was closer to my house, but I wanted to share that I was happy with their estimate process. They got me in quick and they gave an accurate initial estimate. The place I ended up choosing had a much lower initial estimate, that didn't include replacement parts, so I knew their final bill was going to be close to the one Capital Auto Shop provided. If they were a bit closer to where I lived, I probably would have chosen Capital Auto Shop. This place used to be excellent under Jae's management. Now, they have a new manager, and the service took nosedive. I took my car for small bumper repair. They repainted the entire bumper with a noticeably different shade of silver. Great service shop!!! Sent there by my insurance company for an estimate after an accident and decided to have the work done there. The lady that works the front desk (Mimi) is phenomenal. She kept me up to date on everything. I had bought the car from a state that doesn't require a front tag, so I had never had it put on the front. I asked if they'd stick it on for me and they did. The work was amazing. I saw that they had washed my car while they had it (yay!) and when I got in it to leave I realized they had also cleaned the interior -- all the surfaces as well as a vacuuming. His friendliness alone was above and beyond what you get at any other customer service oriented business. Now let's talk about quality of work. When Jae took us to look at the bumper repair my jaw hit the floor. The paint matched what is on my 2011 BMW 328i so well I could not tell if it was a new bumper or a really, really good paint job. Well it wasn't a new bumper he said, so that must mean a magician works for them. The work was done in 2 days, yeah you heard me correctly. Bumper was fixed and painted, back on and ready to go in just 2 days! I found out about Capital Auto Body from Consumer Checkbook (checkbook.org) -- Capital has a high rating for quality and price. GREAT DEALS. I had gone to a premiere auto body shop for my BMW X5 and they told me they would replace my dented/rusted trunk for a grand total of $6K - they said the dents/rust/chipped paint couldn't be repaired (????). Capital Auto Body charged less than 7% of what they other body shop advertised and now my X5 looks like new. They fixed the dents, removed the rust, painted as necessary, and then detailed. On March 17, 2010, I took my car to Capital Auto Body of Fairfax at 3156 Spring Street (22031). I was given an estimate of $713 for a minor scrape that affected one panel of my car. A month and a half later, with no change to the minor damage on the car (which had been resting comfortably in a secure, underground garage), I made an appointment to take it in for service--I took the day off work and arranged for alternate transportation (I was told the repair would take about 3 days). When I arrived the morning of Monday, May 7, I was greeted by assistant manager Khery Moye, the same employee who did my original estimate. As I filled out paperwork, he said he needed to double-check the estimate and look at the car again, as well as take pictures for manager Brenda, which he didn't do before. About 10 minutes later, he told me that his original estimate was off and that he made mistakes, and that at the time he did the original estimate, he was "just finishing estimating classes". He told me that the new total was now $1,236--a $523 increase, nearly 75% higher than the original estimate (this included nearly double the amount of labor hours he originally estimated). He acknowledged he made a mistake, mentioned Brenda's name a few more times as the one he was accountable to and said he could work in discounts to account for his mistakes (using 25% "student" discounts off some of the estimates like labor, even though I wasn't a student). My new total would be around $930. I told him that his error was pretty huge and that I couldn't understand how he could make such a big mistake, but agreed to leave my car because of the time I had taken off work (and the time my family member took off to transport me back). AFTER I say this and reluctantly agree to his new, higher total, he says he will go check with a technician to see if he can knock a little more off the labor hours. Another employee I have never spoken with comes in and the two talk in the background. Minutes later, I am passed off to this other employee who doesn't introduce himself. He brings up new paperwork, and tells me that they can't knock anything else off, and that while the new estimate total is $1,236, they will do the work for $1,000...if I pay cash, fully knowing that I am NOT going through my insurance company (a point that was made clear at the beginning of both visits to the shop). I'm so surprised by this new development, I have to calmly repeat it back to him to be sure I wasn't going crazy--yes, they wanted $1,000 in cash, despite having given me two lower estimates in the last 20 minutes. I tell him how Khery (now hiding in the background and refusing to come join the discussion) just quoted me $900 and change; the new technician shakes his head and says no, that can't be done. Stunned, I refuse to use them for the repairs and I leave. It wasn't even about the money; this was a minor repair, and if I had to pay $1,200-plus, so be it. But I refused to spend my money at an establishment using these corrupt business practices. One of the most shady experiences I have ever encountered anywhere. Capital Auto Body of Fairfax either intentionally uses this practice to get people to pay more after they have already been drawn into an appointment with a lower estimate (and taking time off work, and arranging alternate transportation), or employs unqualified people who can't do estimates and shouldn't be working the counter. It's all the more inexcusable given that this was a minor repair and one of the simplest, easiest estimates imaginable. Not only did the employee give me a bad original quote, he gives me a bad second quote that morning! And being passed off to a new person who doesn't introduce himself and tells me they can work a "deal" if I pay cash was the last straw--I'm sure the IRS would love to know about their attempt at illegal practices. Avoid them. (As an aside, I took my car to another shop the next day and was given an estimate of $882. I got the work done at this new shop; they did a great job and stuck to their original estimate, proving that Capital Auto Body's second, third and fourth estimate quotes weren't competitive to begin with.) Would give them zero stars if it was an option. read more
