My husband is Canadian and used to come here to meet his Dad, my Late Father in law for breakfast many times. Once we were married, we would come here to meet my Father-in-Law when we came for visits from NJ... the States. Their Poutine is very good and honestly, we have Never had a Bad meal or anything that wasn't very good. Our memories and experiences have been Great and that's Not just counting the Company we were in. The place is very clean and tidy. There is No foul odors and the Restrooms/washrooms are Spotless, we visited them and can honestly say they looked brand new, clean smelling and well-stocked. I'm actually shocked that The Canyon Grill/Roslyn Hotel restaurant doesn't have 5 stars across the board. Perhaps the reviewers have never had Really "Poor Service" and Donna served us very well. She was wonderful and polite and kind and attentive. She made sure all of our drinks were topped off and we had plenty of napkins. The food was fresh and delicious and tasted wonderfully made. Today I went for dinner with some relatives. They decided to go to the Roslyn because they have a fairly large menu. Two people got the fish and chips which sounds impressive when they say it has three pieces but the pieces are no bigger than a chicken finger. I myself had a beef dip. The beef dip was very short on meat compared to others I've had. Also the au jus tasted like it was liquid beef stock. My gravy was thinner than the au jus. Super salty and at the point it was inedible. Our service was decent and helpful read more

We stayed at the Rosslyn Hotel only because all the other hotels in Edmonton were fully booked. To my absolute delight and surprise, this restaurant was the hit of the evening, and the stellar service by our waitress "Kelly" and all the other staff was absolutely phenomenal. Three house salads were crisp and flavourful with Ranch and Italian dressing "automatically" on the side for those who are calorie conscious. I gluttonously had the potato skins which were freshly made with THICK bacon, green onions and multi-cheese drenched, blew me away at the sheer size of the portion and multi-faceted flavours, they were a meal all by themselves! But there's more... We ordered the Hot Turkey sandwich, Bacon Cheeseburger, Hot Hamburger sandwich & Liver and Onions. Each meal was enormous, the fries were hand-cut with a tiny bit of skin on each end so you know they were homemade, that type of fry doesn't come frozen! After all of that, we chose Apple Pie(half-hot) and Blueberry Pie(same) The desserts came with giant scoops of Ice Cream on top, the pies are homemade with the apple being my favourite. Just a hint of cinnamon, not too much to ruin the delicate apple taste, this mixed with the vanilla Ice Cream topped the meal to perfection. The Blueberry pie was equally flavourful, not just a mass of sweetness but with the real, compound flavours and textures that one would expect from grandma's homemade pie. This restaurant is an absolute diamond in the rough area of Edmonton and I would recommend it to anyone staying in the area or just passing through. The icing on the cake? The price... I don't understand how they can sell such quality food in these giant portions for 2010 prices. The restaurant was packed all evening which may possibly explain some of it but, again, the cost is inexplicable. I will stop in here every-single-chance-I-get. If you want anything other than eggs for breakfast I would go elsewhere. Didn't go with high expectations but was still disappointed. The food is pretty much just frozen food they prepare and put on a plate. My chicken cordon blue was served with my choice of side and... some random corn that was basically just some canned corn dumped onto my plate. No seasoning of any kind. Not sure if the food was stored properly but my stomach felt funny even the next day after my meal. Might as well cross the street, go to safeway, pick up a frozen entree for $5 throw in the microwave and you'll end up with the same quality food, maybe even better. Don't drink the coffee. That's the only thing I can criticize about this place. I had the special which was Chicken Cordon Bleu today. I was a bit surprised that it was covered with a beef mushroom gravy as were the mashed potatoes. It tasted good. It came with a starter salad which was very fresh and crispy. I was very pleased. There were a few other tables occupied - a pretty slow night. The service was prompt and the food came pretty fast as well. I wasn't given the opportunity to order dessert - which I was actually considering. The restaurant had a nice, homey feel. It's located inside the Rosslyn Inn. read more

No frills, nothing fancy, unique or original. Just food. I've been going to the Canyon Grill (better known as 'The Roz' to those of us in the KNOW) for breakfast off and on for a decade now. The place is normal and free of the hipster pretension that is plaguing the restaurant scene now. I blame the Food Network... Like I said, I've only ever gone to the place in the mornings so I can't comment on lunch or supper. There is sometimes a line outside the door to get in to the place, usually because it's full of soldiers that have decided to eat instead of exercise. The line isn't because there aren't any available tables, it's because they don't have enough staff in the mornings to clear the tables and greet new customers and seat them. Be prepared for a needless wait. They've got all of the morning staples on their breakfast menu that you would expect; eggs, bacon, coffee, toast, pancakes with berries (or without), coffee, ham, coffee, omelettes, and coffee. It`s totally ordinary, predictable, safe, harmless, blah, blah, blah. This is the place that you would take your grandparents to if they were visiting from out of town and you wanted to go somewhere that wouldn't shock your elders with an "out there" menu and where there wouldn't be any panhandlers hanging around. This isn't the trendy sort of Thai/Zimbabwean/Antarctican fusion with turquoise walls and their own newsletter. The Canyon Grill won't be visited by any short round guys with white spiky hair and his sunglasses behind his head.. But that's okay. If you're paying by debit you will have to get up and walk to the counter. Annoying. They haven't gone wireless at the Canyon yet. Not that your grandparents will be paying by debit anyway. These electronic transactions and these bank cards are a fad anyhow. They only exist to steal your money and track your movements so the government will always know where you are. Your grandparents know it and the staff of the Roz know it. Did I mention they serve coffee? Update: So I'm back at the Roz again for breakfast. They charge $2.25 for a cup of coffee. The coffee is bottomless and they leave the pot on the table so you can top up whenever you get low. Suddenly a waitress (she wasn't even our server) comes out of nowhere and just grabs the pot from our table and brings it to another table where a couple had just been seated. This was almost comical. She was too lazy to go to the kitchen and get another pot. She just swipes it from us and gives it to somebody else? The coffee isn't bottomless anymore if they take the pot away from you. They still charged the $2.25 though. read more

Blech... it was sustenance at least. We stayed at the Rosslin so we ate here in the mornings. The first day I had the french toast... yeah that was 4 pieces of texas toast on a plate that were dregged in scrambled egg and fried. Yucky greasey icky. Nothing on the plate except for those sad pieces of toast on a plate. Bf's omelett had cheeze (yes that's cheese with a z... ie lame crazy icky fake cheese). This mornings breakfast was better. Bf had pancakes which were your basic pancakes. Mine was ordered off the sides menu... oatmeal, and a side of bacon. The side of bacon was meh ok, pretty rubbery... the oatmeal was yoru basic oatmeal and it was a big portion so I was happy to leave full. Our waitress the first day was grumpy and rude, second day pretty nice. Guess it depends on which day of the week you go. read more

Ordered the vegetarian pizza. Crust is thin to medium thickness. Sauce is practically non-existant and flavorless. Vegetable toppings are scarce. Cheese is sparingly used. I think this is the worst pizza I've ever had in the city. Boston Pizza is gourmet comparatively. Orlando's Bar is ten times better. Even Royal Pizza is better. There are better pizza places on the north-side. Avoid Canyon Grill at all costs. read more

As a regular customer of the Canyon Grill I was disappointed when the waitress messed up the order causing someone in my party's food to come way after everyone else was done eating then she refused to discount the food or provide any reimbursement for the meal saying "(she) didn't hear him right". Exceptionally poor service on her part. The service isn't always the greatest, but the prices are half decent for very basic food. Meal portions are mediocre. The only thing that keeps me coming back is convenience. read more

I work near by so have eaten here quite regularly, breakfasts are very good as are the pizza. Only criticism I would have is that in the 15 years I have eaten at this restaurant is that the menu hasn't changed. Time for some new items. read more

It seems I frequently give four stars. There are several reasons for that. It could be the service is extremely good or a combination of factors. The CANYON GRILL for those that are interested in good, home cooked food will be quite pleased with this menu. It has something for almost everyone. If you want FUSION anything then DON'T come here. They do a real turkey club house like no other! Add their REAL home cut fries with the ever delicious side gravy and you have a winner! Their meatloaf (Yes, Milestones, people still want meatloaf!) is a classic. The portions are healthy but NOT over sized! There are often leftovers to go home with you dependent upon your appetite. The service is prompt even when the placed is packed! The coffee is fresh. The prices are reasonable and once again, it is part of an independent business, the Rosslyn Hotel. Breakfast, lunch or dinner! The servers have been there for a while and soon learn the regular's beverage choices, etc. This north side location is on your way down 97 Street, directly across the street from the Northgate Safeway. The breakfast was good. Nothing spectacular, but fast to get the food. We stayed at the hotel and on the first morning the service was good. The second morning it was TERRIBLE! We were served attitude with a side of breakfast. We made a reservation for a large wedding group (20) in their overflow room and when we arrived we were told the servers didn't know & we'd have to wait for Rosa (I think that's her name) to get in to figure it out. 5 min later I was told they were setting it up for us, but it was almost 20min after that that we actually got a table. The server took our order, with attitude, poured coffees & spilled them on some of us, and basically threw the other drinks on the tables. We requested a new server, and Rosa came in and nothing changed, except some of the late comers got attitude from Rosa. Also, the night prior to this a bunch of us tried to order room service (we would have even come down to pick it up) and couldn't get thru. When a couple went downstairs to order, they found the phones were literally off the hook. Long story short...unless you want attitude don't bother with this place. read more

Went to canyon grill yesterday. Was not pleased with the service or the food. With the service it felt like we were being rushed and an Inconvenience to our server. It was not very busy in this place when we went and we were quick to be seated. Granted I'm sure my mom confused the waitress with her order, but she did make one thing clear hot beef with fries ( waitress even came to double check) food arrived my mom got hot beef with mash potato. Not even close. My sister ordered the beef dip sandwich with fries. Got what she wanted, but the beef in the sandwich looked more like beef jerky being over cooked. She is not a complainer, but she did bring it to the waitresses attention of how over cooked the beef was. Waitress didn't seem happy and rushed off with the plate to get it fixed. Lastly I ordered just simple chicken fingers with fries and a side of gravy. Ew. Chicken good, gravy gross, fries are small and thin but decent. For drinks they got pop I got chocolate milk. Apparently that means I get a smaller glass even though there is no small or large option. I was done my drink by time food arrived and nearly had to chase the waitress down to get a glass of water which also came in a small cup. Am I a child? No I'm a pregnant woman I'd like a decent sized glass like everyone else. All in all I don't want to go back and I won't be suggesting it to anyone I know or meet. It felt like we were such an inconvenience being there that we felt uncomfortable. No wonder the place was so empty during supper time. read more

I was at the restaurant for breakfast with my brother. I ordered the 3 egg + meat breakfast. When i got to my last egg, I discovered big pieces of egg shell in the egg. I still had a lot of the cubed potatoes and one slice of toast to eat, when I called over the waitress. She wisked my plate away and said she would see what the kitchen had to say. She came back and said that they would take $1.00 off because there was still an egg left.(The one with the egg shell cooked in it). I said I wanted to see the manager. When the manager came over she stated to me that eggs had shells on them - I'm thinking what's that got to do with my breakfast. She said she would not take the cost of the breakfast off of our bill and I said that I should only have to pay for half because of what I had left on my plate. She took the bill and took $4.50 off the bill and told me she did not like my attitude. I said I didn't like hers either. I later learned that she was the owner of the restaurant and I must say does not have any customer service skills at all. She has lost my business and all of my family's and friends. I will post this incident everywhere. I am also going to voice my complaint to the Rosslyn Hotel. I will never suggest the Rosslyn Hotel to any of my out of town guests - just because this restaurant is attached to it. read more

Very poor, the food is well something to eat, not great by any means, but the real thing bad is the attitude of the restaurant manager that is also the restaurant owner. A customer found egg shells in the food and after calling for the manager, her attitude towards a customers complaint was nothing less than unbelievable, very condescending and did not in a rational manner deal appropriately with the issue. The customer did eat some of the meal prior to discovering the egg shell, but was discussed when found that the meal was sent back. The manager was asked for, and words were exchanged about the bill. The customer only asked for the bill to be reduced because of sending back most of the meal, but the manager at first refused to reduced it sufficiently. Again words exchange the the manager said fine and reduced to almost half. When the manager returned the bill to the customer she made a childish remark as she walked away. VERY BAD customer service, arrogant behaviour. Will not be going back and will make sure I tell family and friends about this place and to avoide. read more
