Canton House is an old standby that we use to love for their Dim Sum and wonderful banquets. Went today for lunch however, including weekday Dim Sum and was very disappointed despite the bright crystal chandelier filled dining room. We tried both chicken feet and steam black bean ribs, both underwhelming and not even hot. The chicken feet lacked flavor balance, primarily salt. The ribs were cold and congealed, and more chewy than they should have been. Lunch entrees included Shredded Duck Pan Fried Noodles which was good tasting, but the noodles lacked the traditional pan fried crispness. We also got Hoi Sin Chicken with plenty of veggies, but were hard pressed to find much chicken at all. The flavor was okay, but underwhelming. It came with Hot and Sour Soup that was good, spring roll that was average, and fried rice that was just soy sauce and rice, nothing else! Again, disappointing output from a place as good as I know Canton House could be. Verdict, we surely won't be back for their lunch menu and better Dim Sum choices are close by! read more

A large group of my classmates wanted to reward ourselves after an especially difficult exam on a Monday afternoon. Being a group of 20+ people, we were happy to get seated right away since there was only a table or two of other patrons. We shared a multitude of plates while also accomodating for dietary restrictions of no pork for a few people. Staff were helpful in specifying which dishes were which. Some of my favorite dishes was the vegetable lo mein, shrimp and chives dumplings, shumai, and pork buns. Overall, we had a wonderful time and the staff were pretty on the ball of addressing our requests and orders. This has been my favorite dim sum spot for years. I can't believe that I never did a review here. This restaurant is located off of Buford Hwy right south of Chamblee Tucker Rd. The parking lot is fairly big as it wraps around to the side and the rear. Dim Sum is served here daily from 11:30am to 2:30pm. If you don't know what Dim Sum is, the employees push a cart around with food and you tell them what you want from it. I will just say that customer service was great here. Everybody is super friendly. I enjoyed every single dish I had especially the taro balls with pork inside. I also loved the Pork shumai. The bbq pork buns were amazing as well. Prices have definitely went up since the last time I had dim sum. lol So be sure to have some deep pockets!! The service was indeed SUPER fast, and we had to take a break a few times to catch up. Everyone was so helpful and quick to send in a special order if something we wanted wasn't on the carts. The place was packed, and noisy - it was a great atmosphere and stayed busy the whole time we were there. The food is hot and fresh, with all the items you'd expect. Went there yesterday for the last time. Quality of food has been going down for some time. But yesterday was the end. Ordered $117. Worth if Din Sum for my 3 guests. First few dishes were ok, but then the old trays started coming out. The server assured us they were fresh. Being Chinese, I know the difference. So instead of offering to get us fresh trays, she picked up the 5 dishes and says "I'll have them reheated". Well you can imagine what they tasted like the second time around. It's a shame all the great Dim Sum restaurants have moved to Duluth. We will drive there the next time. Always love this place when I need. Dim Sum fix while visiting Atlanta. The service is super fast and the carts are always running. We are always treated very well and feel welcomed. I have been to Dim Sun many times so I am familiar. Each dish was perfect. You can actually see the steam coming off some of my pics. I also ordered roast pork fried rice for hubs. There was no shortage of food as the carts came around fairly frequently. If you're looking for a specific dish, you'll have to find the runner and ask them to place a special order. On par with other major city quality but not the best I have had. Tried a mango sweet filled roll I have never had before and it was great. All of the usual suspects as well were great. This place is not it.. I am from the SF Bay Area and grew up eating dim sum and this dim sum is one of the worse I have tried. The siu mai looked like it was frozen, and other dim sum I ordered tasted really weird. In addition the tea tasted like water. I realized from the menu this place is not even owned by a Cantonese person which makes sense.. It's not authentic at all. Additionally I was not pleased with the service because the waiter was rude when I wrote the name of the dish on the paper (I just followed the previous waitresses instructions). As a result I did not tip. When I went out to the parking lot the waiter chased after me complaining that I did not tip. That is WILD and unprofessional. My favorite ITP dim sum spot. I have tried sparingly from their actual menu though appreciate coming here anytime of the day and having a solid dim sum menu available. My favorites here easily are the clams in black bean sauce, shu mei, oolong tea, and hot and sour soup! Although the unicorn here which is always amazing but they run out of frequently is the curry octopus, it sounds amazing and tastes even better! The other dishes we had were the jalapeño stuffed pork, tofu skin, pork dumplings, and egg rolls. All solid though not mind blowing. The reason I keep coming back here is the ease of finding a dim sum spot available at all times, the amazing 10/10 service, and the curry octopus (although I wish they didn't run out so frequently!). We arrived around 1pm on a Saturday It was crowded but there was no wait It took a couple mins to get seated as the woman was on the phone taking a takeout order when we arrived but she was very pleasant. The only thing we didn't like was the Xiao long bao - just go to northern china eatery for dumplings but everything else here was great It did take awhile to get water & oolong bc we already had 2-3 carts come by before they brought that over (on a cart) but everyone was friendly. Might've been a wait for tea to brew before bringing our waters The coffee was great, creamy & sweet. Decent sized parking lot but some spots hard to get into You pay up at the front after they exchange your card for a bill. Being Cantonese, it pains me to write a one star review for Canton House. Especially after years of dining there and celebrating special events with friends and family while I was in college at Emory. The one star review is for the extreme decline in the quality of service and the quality of food presentation. In January 2023, I went with my sister to Canton House for dim sum to celebrate her birthday. Unfortunately we were unable to enjoy our time at Canton House. Several things went terribly wrong. 1. After the hostess seated us and asked us what tea we would like to drink, no one came to bring us any tea, water, or to even take our order for at least 20 minutes, while guests who were seated after us were already starting to receive the food that they ordered. We had already closed our menus and were actively looking for a server to take our order, but all the servers avoided eye contact. I actually had to get up to chase down a server to have one please take our order. 2. Almost all the food arrived in extremely bad condition. The cheong fun was crumpled up and cold, and I had never seen such a horrible presentation. Even the grocery store version looked better. 3. When we were finished with our food, no server came by to give us a check or take away the dishes. Again, I had to physically get up from the table to get a server to bring the check. Very cool classic Dim Sum spot on Buford Hwy. we came around 1 on a Saturday and expected to have to wait, but we were sat right away. This is the kind of place where they come around with the carts, so it's a lot of fun, but it also means you sometimes have to wait a while between carts. We also had to ask quite a few times to have our waters refilled, so don't expect super attentive service, but the tasty food makes up for it. My favorites were the radish cake and the soup dumplings but most everything we tried was tasty. This was the second dim-sum restaurant I tried in Atlanta. And yes, it was within the past year. I don't know why I hadn't had dim-sum in my almost 5 years being here.... As a Royal China lover this will have to remain at second place for now. It is, however, closer to where I am based ITP on Buford Highway. For some reason, I always feel like the flavors are weaker at Canton House. The Cheung Fun are also on the dryer end. Some dishes they run out of easily, and others they simply do not have. The one dish they do great is the radish cake. Perfectly crispy and chewy at the same time!
