I was previously aware of her reputation and restaurant in Mexico City from reading about her and was excited to dine there before my show (DWTS Live). I wanted to experience the seafood classics paired with the speciality tequila cocktails. I had the Ceviche, Atun, Pescado Veracruzana, and Meringue. The meal, drinks, and service were outstanding (Troy was a fantastic server, as were the suggestions from the 2 wonderful managers). I live in Vegas and look forward to returning. I had the occasion to visit Contramar on the 8th day it was open. The service was amazing. Every detail was thought of. The plates, although small, left us full. We actually ordered one too many items. We started off with the ceviche and the sopes which were both amazing. We had the whole fish; the tuna tacos; the tortilla soup; the meat tacos and the guac. My favorite was the crab tacos. I would go back just for these. The restaurant was lively but not too loud. Decor was simple and elegant. A wonderful experience all around. Cannot wait to go back! I'm rounding everything up to a 4 this experience started off as a 1 and ended as a 4-5, so I'm rounding up. The biggest issue we had is that our 8:45 reservation simply wasn't honored, and we weren't seated until after 9:35. We walked up a few minutes late at 8:49 and were told it would be a wait which I understood somewhat, because we were late by about 4 minutes. 10 minutes, fine, nearly an hour, not fine. The hosts seemed possibly inexperienced or misdirected by management and kept pushing us to sit at the bar instead. Once we were finally seated, the staff did a great job trying to shift the tone of our experience. The FOH manager and our server were very kind and warm and did their best to make things right. The drinks were fine, food is definitely the highlight here. The crudo de camaron is excellent, as were the tuna toastadas. We also really enjoyed the Pescado a la Veracruzana. Skip the short rib, and the crab tostada is only ok. What we learned from this is to trust our server because the recommendations from him were the best parts of our meal. I really appreciate the efforts from the staff to make sure we had a great time after a frustrating start to our night. While I would give this place another shot, I wouldn't do so if I were bringing clients to a dinner (frequent Vegas activity for me) or if I were coordinating a large group of any kind. The manager seems great and I hope he can continue to work with the rest of the staff to make this experience a premium one, reflecting the price point. read more

Had a great date night at Cantina Contramar inside Fontainebleau Las Vegas. The atmosphere is stylish but still fun and welcoming, perfect for a night out. Service was smooth and attentive. Jorge was an amazing server, and Tony the sommelier really elevated the experience with a great wine and N/A recommendation. Our uber ride was delayed and we were so worried that we would miss our reservation. I called a few times letting them know we were coming. I'm glad I did, as we literally ran all the way to the restaurant. The service was amazing, the food was great, ambiance was on point. We had: Caesar Salad, Shrimp with Olive Oil and Garlic, Short rib (mine), Carne Asada, Waygu and Fish Tacos. Everything was amazing. My short rib was melt in your mouth good! Didn't get to try the original Contramar in CDMX but I was so excited to hear that this location was opening up at the Fontainebleau. Came here with a group of 7 for my bday & we all enjoyed our time & of course the food! Restaurant decor was pretty simple compared to other more elaborate places on the strip, but also further emphasized the quality of the food. All the staff were friendly and a nice touch was meeting the chef herself Gabriela Camara! Since it was a larger group, it was recommended to order about 3 dishes per person so we were able to share & try a good variety of their menu. Seafood tasted fresh & light. Sauces were all so complex & delicious. Tortillas were handmade on site & it showed. - coctel vuelve à la vida - crudo de camarones - ceviche contramar - tacos de pescado al pastor (3 per order): a fun take on halibut prepared as al pastor - tacos de gaoneras (3 per order): meat was tender & juicy - queso fundido: such a simple dish but so comforting - ensalada de nopales: loved the freshness & crunch - pescado à la talla contramar: 1/2 came in red adobo sauce & the other 1/2 was a parsley rub, which I enjoyed a little more - camote a las brasas: this one was delicious & so unique; really enjoyed the bone marrow salsa - rajas con crema: a straightforward creamy side We opted for 3 dessert to share: (don't have the official names) the flan, meringue & apple churro. Such a beautiful restaurant. Reminded me of Mexico City. It was very busy Saturday night. We had to wait a while to order. I ordered the tuna tostada to start. Tasted fresh and light. I added the salsa roja and verde. It was okay, I preferred the CDMX Contramar tuna tostada. I also tried the el pastor tacos. This al pastor fish taco tasted exactly like the Contramar in CDMX. Delicious. I shared the Chamorro and it was huge! Very flavorful. I made tacos with the corn tortillas, cilantro, union and salsas. As we ate the waitress told us to try the Chamorro with the flour tortillas. I am so glad I listened to her. The BEST flour tortillas I have had in years! Reminded me of my childhood. If I could just buy those tortillas, I would be a happy girl. That was a highlight for me. I was very full afterwards. The waitress brought us a sweet surprise which was a meringue with strawberries. We got a chance to have dinner the night of the Grand Opening! A fine dining experience with flavors that had depth. Ambiance - Warm and light wood mixed with different textures of stones and tiles. Gold and navy blue accents. It was beautiful. Service- We felt well taken care of from the beginning to the end of service. The Manager was amazing. She broke down the menu and gave us the wonderful history behind the chef's choices. Loved it! The multiple servers we met throughout the evening were kind and attentive. Food - Everything was fresh, well seasoned, and you can tell they took their time with preparation. I had the Guacamole, Ensalada de Nopales, and Tacos de Hongos. All were very good and vegan friendly. For the Nopales, you joust need to ask to remove the queso fresco. To drink, I had the Ocaso and I loved the smokiness to the Rum. All were 5/5 stars . I cannot remember the last time I dined at a newly opened restaurant in Las Vegas. There is always something opening here but to dine in on opening night was special. The space is beautiful and it overwhelming. The service was top tier. It felt like every member of the staff came and checked on us constantly and made sure we had exactly what we needed. The menu consist of seafood and other meat options incorporated for that vegas flare. The traditional Mexico City way is just seafood so that extra touch was nice. The drink menu has traditional Mexico City cocktails on the right but the left side are cocktails they made specifically for Las Vegas. You could tell with each dish that the flavors were well thought out and prepared in a way to couple with whatever else you ordered. I loved this experience and will definitely be back, there are lots of things on the menu to try. read more

This place is worth the hype and worth booking the reservation in advance. The ambiance is very vibrant and the service was very good. While all that was great the real seller is the food. I had the aguachile negro de res, the sopes with al pastor fish, the tuna tostada, the al pastor fish tacos and in my opinion the star of the show, the wagyu tacos. The atmosphere is like a 6/10 for me. It's big and looks impressive at first, but it ends up feeling kind of cavernous, almost like a warehouse trying to be upscale. It just doesn't feel warm or inviting, which is something I want at this price point. Food quality was strong, probably an 8.5/10. You can tell the ingredients are fresh and high-end. But the actual flavor was more like a 6/10. Nothing was bad, just not that memorable. The ceviche was the best thing we had, really fresh, and I liked the onion-based salsa they bring out. That honestly had more personality than some of the main dishes. Drinks were good. The Jamaica Mezcal was interesting and well made, just a little too sweet for me. The margarita was solid, just a good classic. I also had a Tito's and Diet, which was exactly what you'd expect. Service was fine but a little awkward. The waiter did his job, but there was a lot of intense eye contact that made it slightly uncomfortable. Not bad service, just kind of a weird vibe. Overall it feels like a place that looks expensive and uses good ingredients, but doesn't fully turn that into a memorable experience. I don't even know where to start with how amazing and flavorful Contramar was. The restaurant itself is gorgeous, with all three facets of the restaurant (bar, tortilla making, and kitchen) were proudly on display surrounding the main dining area. Service was more than excellent, the staff worked together seamlessly to ensure we had an incredible experience. Stephanie and Louise were an amazing team with fantastic service and recommendations. The horchata mocktail with espresso is probably my favorite drink on the Fontainebleu property now. The Fundido with chorizo was lifechanging. I have consumed a lot of tortillas in my life but these corn tortillas are the best I've ever had. The kitchen sent out the most amazing fish tacos Al pastor, something both my wife and I are now obsessed with, the pineapple cuts through the salt of the Al pastor beautifully. The carne asada was some of the most tender skirt steak I've ever had, served with the amazing corn tortillas. The flavor was incredible and the leeks provided a nice crunch. The fideo was amazing, they did not skimp on any of the seafood in it. The sauce was wonderful and the bread served to mop it all up was an amazing end to the pasta. While we were far too stuffed for a dessert we got to try their mini desserts of the strawberry meringue and oh my goodness I wish I had eaten less because these were delicious. I strongly recommend them, the meringue is perfect and the strawberry is a fantastic counter to its dry fluffy texture. I really enjoyed the tortilla soup and the huge Caesar salad with lots of anchovies but I could not eat the softshell crab (jaiba suave) deconstructed taco. When it arrived at my table, I was thinking what is that horrible smell? Then I realized it was the crab dish. I took the first bite and found it to be really salty. I thought OK maybe there was just too much salt on that piece. Then I tried another piece and it had a weird smoky pungent flavor that I was not expecting. I ate it with the onions and tortilla and the delicious green salsa, but I couldn't get over the unlikable taste and aroma of the crab. I wanted to like it. I tried to get a few more bites down, but I couldn't eat anymore. It was that off-putting. I had the absolute pleasure to have dinner with my partner at Cantina Contramar on April 13th. The food was amazing and the service was perfect. I had the tuna tostada, the pastor fish tacos, Caesar salad, ceviche, and the pescado à la Veracruz. Everything was absolutely delicious. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants I've ever been too. I believe our waiters name was Esteban(or possibly Ernesto, sorry it's been a week already), and he provided excellent service! Showed up 30 minutes late and the restaurant was literally half empty. They told us our table was given away (fair), but then said we couldn't be seated for another 2 hours because the open tables were "reserved for future guests." Meanwhile there were at least 10+ empty tables just sitting there. They sat us at the bar and said they might move us if a table opened--but only if we didn't order food. Once we ordered, suddenly it was "too difficult" to move us. Not sure how bringing food from the bar to a table is a complicated process. It felt like the staff was more focused on hypothetical future reservations than the actual customers standing in front of them. Zero flexibility, zero effort to accommodate. Especially for a dinner where I'm spending $500 for a date night. Food was okay, nothing special. Service and overall experience killed it. Wouldn't come back. read more

Wanted to this this new place. A little hard to find inside the Fontainebleau (hint: on the second floor) but when we did were seated promptly for our 6:30 booking. The place is packed but the table spacing is good. you don't feel like you're sitting on top of one another. the menu is varied with most fish but some meat and vegetarian dishes. our server, Esteban, was AWESOME. Explained the menu, gave us some honest advice and was always nearby and attentive. In fact all the servers were very professional. ceviche was ok (not bad but I like a little more varied ingredients). The wagyu tacos were great. The grilled onion and lime really offered a contrast to the med rare tender beef. Could have eaten a dozen of those. The snapper with the tomato concasse was delicious. Highly recommended We also had caesar salad which was nice if you want a cold dish to contrast the others. The sides were also great. Loved the corn with poblano chiles. Overall was a great experience and as were locals will definitely be back. Food for two with three glasses of wine plus dessert (banana tarte) and tax was $275 before tip. Not cheap but about typical for vegas () and left very full. Only complaint is the wine by the glass is expensive. Will bring a bottle next time. Headline: Unprofessional service and blatant favoritism - don't bother with a reservation. I had a 8:30 PM reservation and arrived early at 8:20 PM, only to experience some of the most unprofessional front-of-house service I've ever encountered. Despite being told to wait because it wasn't 8:30 yet, I watched as a group of four with a later reservation (8:45 PM) was seated before us. When I questioned this, they claimed it was because that group was sitting at the bar. Fine. However, shortly after, a party of two arrived and was seated at a table immediately. When I pointed out that they weren't sitting at the bar, the staff had the audacity to ask me, "Are you waiting for a seat?" as if they hadn't seen us standing right in front of them for the last 30 minutes. To make matters even more suspicious, the staff's stories kept changing. First, they said the other party had a 8:30 PM reservation (same as us), but when I called them out on it, another staff member suddenly changed it to an 8:00 PM reservation. Most frustratingly, throughout this entire ordeal of lying and skipping over us, not a single staff member offered an apology. They treated us as if we were invisible and made us feel like our time didn't matter. Still waiting as I write this, and I'll be watching closely to see who else they skip over. read more

When me and my boyfriend arrived we were amazed at how beautiful the restaurant looks. Our server Osvaldo was phenomenal. Very professional and made us feel welcomed. He was very knowledgeable about their seafood and where the food is sourced from. He guided us and recommended the ceviche and tacos Al pastor with fish. By far the best seafood in Las Vegas. I don't even like fish normally but was eating everything off the dish. The ceviche was fresh and prepared exquisitely. Later we moved to the carne asada wagyu skirt steak which was tender and melted in your mouth. And the apple pie desert is a must to finish off a wonderful night. You have to check this place out.
