My husband and I came here after an early evening at the arb and found it to be a pleasant surprise. It's definitely nothing fancy, and some of the booths and such had seen better days, but generally speaking it was a good experience. Now, they've got a full bar but lately my husband and I have been staying off the booze and we found they had a really nice selection of NA beverages. I had the strawberry mango sour and my husband went with the pineapple coconut colada. Tropical and fruity without the buzz! For our meals, my husband went with a trio of tacos while I opted for the nachos. Now, my friends, IDK if I was just really hungry or I hadn't had a non-carryout/sorta soggy plate plate of nachos in a long time what but those nachos? They were so good! Crunchy, nice and salty, and staaaacked. I opted for the carnitas and they came loaded with a good portion of that with cheese, pico de gallo, black beans, queso, and sour cream. Real good and so cheap! Just $13 and I had enough leftovers for lunch the next day. While we were there dining we were definitely the only ones there which felt a little weird since the spot is clearly designed for nightlife but as we were settling up our check a steady flow of folks came through and I could sense it was going to pick up in there soon. In the evening they eschew restaurant vibes and go for more of a club feel with DJ sets, karaoke nights, drink specials and shots, etc. I'm a long way from my college days but I suppose if you're of a certain age those things could be alluring. For me? A good pan of nachos and a tropical juice are just fine. read more

He began puffing his chest out and towering over this women yelling in her face when she wasn't reciprocating any of that energy he just kept getting more aggressive. Don't expect to get traditional classic tacos, as their tacos are more bougie, and they're not the greatest still. To me the flavors just don't work the best, but with a deal like that, it's hard to complain too much. Before they used to give chips with your order and it appeared, at one point, they stopped doing that, but the wait staff does give you chips if you asked. I ordered two rounds of mystery shots which were advertised at $3. The bartender revealed to me the flavor of the shots after we had drank them. When I received my check, they had upcharged me on account of the fact that they revealed the mystery flavor after the fact. Obviously, I did not choose the shot. And the bartender was at full discretion of what to serve to me. When I brought this up to the manager, he reluctantly adjusted my receipt. Even then, I reviewed my credit card statement today and the amount charged is different than the adjustment according to my receipts. So here's my advice, save your receipt if you go to this place. Went for taco Tuesday deals with my bff and I can say that we were thoroughly satisfied! Wait for food took longer than expected considering there weren't a lot of people. Drinks were good! I highly recommend the raspberry peach $3.50 frozen margaritas! Tacos were good too (I got the shredded chicken and chorizo and my friend got the fish and carnitas) but I wouldn't get them outside the deal. I came here for Taco Tuesday when all tacos are $2.50! Their website still says they only serve tacos until 10PM but they're trying to extend taco sales past 10PM for the first time. It was hard to miss this place, especially since they have a giant banner hanging outside advertising their award-winning tacos. I was expecting some mind-blowing tacos but they honestly fell kind of short. I tried every taco on the menu except for the black bean and the potato, which they ran out of. I liked that they gave a lot of filling for each double wrapped taco but I felt that some of the meats were too dry or tasteless. I surprisingly really liked the shredded chicken taco, it had a great tinga sauce that complimented the chicken really well. I also really liked the fried fish taco, but I could be biased because all fish tacos taste great to me. If you're looking for a super good taco, La Torre has this place beat in terms of both price and taste. Torre's tacos have better meats and more authentic tortillas at a price cheaper than the Cantina taco Tuesday price. I wouldn't come to Cantina for tacos at the regular price. However, if you're looking to get drunk and eat tacos at the same time, Cantina is a great place to do just that. Their 48 oz shipwrecks are comparable to the fishbowls at Charleys downstairs - they're huge and delicious. I tried the purple rose and the blue wave. The latter is better tasting than the first and the bright blue color made it more aesthetically appealing. We happened to be here as Cantina was transitioning to being a "night spot" so the DJ was already playing, the tables were starting to be moved, and an employee came around to stamp our hands mid meal. read more

I've been to Cantina once at a time where they charged cover to drink mediocre frozen margs and watch college kids act a fool. We came in to try the food, because who doesn't like tacos. Place wasn't busy so we were seated quickly and our waiter was very nice. I ordered the Cuba Libre cocktail (white rum, crushed lime and Mexican coke) and I loved it. Sister and her fiance though the frozen margs were decent this time. We all ordered two tacos a piece; myself the smoked pork belly and chorizo. Waiter came by apologizing for the wait because it took forever to get them, saying the kitchen didn't think they'd be busy tonight so they have two guys back there. Um...ok. I've had better tacos at Taco Bell. The tortilla for the smoked pork belly taco was hard, and it shouldn't be. Couldn't detect a hint of smoke and it was served with cold sauteed onions and rock hard canned pineapple piece. The chorizo was more likely a poorly seasoned ground beef, but I do have to say the onion straws were good. Also, the chips they give you complimentary are crazy salty and they don't give you salsa, you have to go get it yourself. Odd. Oh, and everything was cold. Super cute exterior and I lowkey wanted to sit outside but decided against it. Not going to lie, I ordered a chicken taco, chicken quesadilla, guacamole and 4 drinks( peach mango margarita, Cuba libre, Kentucky mule, and a strawberry margarita) #noregrets The food was really good. I wasn't the biggest fan of the guacamole (there was flavor there but I just prefer mine to be chunky). But the tacos and quesadilla were SPOT ON. I honestly thought the food wouldn't be that good because it didn't really look like an authentic Mexican restaurant but to my surprise, they've gained a new Tuesday regular. Soooo..not my usual place for a late night, but I found myself here recently just before they stopped serving food at 1 a.m. The bearded guy at the door and behind the bar could not have been nicer. He hooked us up with menus immediately so we could order quesadillas and quac before the kitchen shut down. Had to have it to make it the rest of the way home after a full evening hanging out at some hotspots downtown! The food was surprisingly tasty at that hour, right down to the guacamole. We watched the dance floor action while we ate. Based on location and the hour, it was a very young, college crowd of course. (Most without inhibition!) Came here after I got off work. I was the only guest but they had a bouncer at the door wristbanding. A little weird but I get it, it's a stone throw to campus the bartender was nice enough and offered me a drink. I ordered a 22oz draft beer. I went to order food and they had to make sure the kitchen was still open. Again, I'm the only one in there, get it. Might have been a slow night. Ordered chips and queso to start, the cup came as pictured which for $7 was a very small portion. I ordered the steak burrito and while it was tasty it was clear they used Steak Ums in place of real steak. The burrito was hot but the steak inside had a cold feel to it. Must not have warmed it up enough. I ordered the Potato Taco, it was perfectly balanced and it was tasty. It was served with a Diablo sauce that was bomb. I finished my beer quickly but was not asked if I wanted another so after giving it some time I asked for a caddilac Margarita. This is a great place to go. Lots of great food and options, plus a full bar. The bartenders are great and very attentive even when it is extremely busy. My three girl friends and I came into BTB Cantina on a Friday around 7pm for their AYCE nachos! It was extremely crowded when we first arrived, but we managed to snag a table. The AYCE nachos for $6 is available 4-8pm every Friday, and during happy hour their margaritas are only $3, so dinner and a drink for ~$9 seemed like a good deal. The nacho bar includes only the most typical toppings of queso, salsas of varying spicyness levels, lettuce, sour cream, and beans. When we came they had pork and chicken, and I gathered that this changes maybe slightly every week since my friends commented that the chicken was different before. This is a mostly undergrad spot, so expect the rowdiness and college drama i.e. I stepped into the bathroom to wash my hands and their was some juicy gossip to be heard. The main points are that it's a cheap dinner, and fun to sit and chat for an hour or so in a lively atmosphere. read more

The bathrooms can get horrendous on Friday nights--the men's bathroom was so disgustingly puke-filled once that my friend walked in and immediately puked upon entering. The veggie burrito is a great deal at $3.75, especially since you can get it with a wheat tortilla, but it doesn't taste like what I think a burrito should taste like... Still edible and cheap. Recently they raised the price of going deluxe (adding sour cream and guacamole, from $1 up to $1.50), and this price change has not been reflected on the menu. The last time I went, the cashier said my total was $4.75 but I was charged $5.25 and was confused. After calling BTB, whoever picked up said there is a sign next to the register (which I didn't notice) and mentioned that the owner doesn't feel like updating the menu. Okay. Came here for taco Tuesday with a friend and was pleasantly surprised by both the food and the crowd. Classes had just ended, but it's also the start of finals, yet right at 5 pm (which happens to be happy hour AND $2.50 tacos on Tuesdays), people started filing in and the bar area was quickly full of people standing and talking and drinking. The tacos were about average-small sized, and I would not prefer to spend the full-price of $3.50 per taco. At $2.50, they're already kind of over priced, especially compared to other taco places like Chela's or Tmaz, which are the same price, but significantly more authentic. Cantina's tacos are still good and they are filled very full, but just don't have the authentic taste of ones you'd get at a rundown taco shop. Of the three tacos I ordered, the grilled fish, carne asada, and carnitas, the carnitas was definitely the best and most flavorful. It's probably because it was also the sauciest and the meat was the most tender, whereas the steak and fish were kind of overcooked and a bit underseasoned. The fresh pickled cabbage slaw and salsas from the salsa bar were good additions, though, and added a nice dimension to each of the tacos! We also ordered the loaded nachos to start, and those were really good too! Small clumps of guacamole, pico de gallo, olives, cabbage slaw, beans, and cheese were spread intermittently over the chips. I feel like they could have done a better job of this because some chips were fully loaded while some just had nothing on them. The cheese was good, and stretchy, definitely not that processed ballpark-nacho "cheese" stuff. Overall, Cantina is much more than the late-night spot that I've associated it with. It's in a convenient location on South U, and it has really good happy hour selections! For full price, I probably wouldn't go, actually, Taco Tuesday would probably be the only time I'd order something. Not the best or most filling meal, but definitely a fun place to hangout with friends and have a good time! read more

First off, definitely a place for the drinks, not really the food. Not that the food is bad, but I don't think i would ever make a special trip to here in order to grab something to eat. It doesn't have a very cozy restaurant feeling. You order at the end of the giant bar, and then comes your tacos and so forth. Come late at night though and it's a different story. A large dance floor opens up, there's usually a DJ, and the bar is boppin! I mean so busy to the point in which there may be a few people deep all the way along the bar, especially for what they call "Tina Tuesday". Packed with college kids most nights since it's on South U, but that's especially true on Tuesdays. It's a fun crowd no matter what, and a great place to grab a drink ( or a few ) and pull some moves on the dance floor. read more

I'd like to say that "if you're hungry and need something quick and cheap, stop here", but there's just too many other choices in the area. I've had a few things from their menu, and there isn't anything that stands out as being "must have". I'm sure I'll stop by again at some point since I work in the area, but for Mexican food, I find myself weighing the thought of driving 10-15 minutes all the way to one of the Qdoba joints versus a 5 minute walk to this place. Plus Chipotle is also a close walk. One direct tip: The two-taco meal (just the tacos) was actually pretty tasty, the meat was really flavorful, but the tortilla fell apart quickly, and it seemed like paying $6 for two tacos was a bit much. I won't go so far as to say "avoid" this place, just know that you probably won't be blown away by anything. The staff has always been great though, very cool people. One of the better locations in the area; it's on the 2nd floor giving you an overview of the Church Street and South U. intersections, great for people watching during lunch. read more

I used to like this place, as the food and margs were tasty (although very expensive for the location). My most recent experience here has taught me that this place is a bad establishment, run by a corrupt owner. Last weekend, my friends and I decided to go to cantina to dance at a place we knew had decent drinks but would be empty. We wanted an empty place, since one member of our group had an injury and couldn't stand for very long. Cantina's reputation of being best dancing spot for underclassmen at the university (since they have a reputation of letting under 21YOs in with terrible fake IDs), means that it is often empty, because no one wants to dance with 18YOs. Upon arrival to the nearly empty bar/restaurant/club one of the guys in my group was turned away. The bouncer claimed that my friend's crutches (since he had broken his ankle three days ago, and needed them to walk) were against the club's dress code. Then when we informed the security guard that this is completely illegal to turn someone away from a restaurant for having crutches, the owner joined the conversation and changed the claims. The owner claimed that our friend was actually being turned away because he was wearing black joggers (a non baggy, fashionable type of sweat pant), because sweatpants are against dress code. The owner claimed that this was a rule put in place by the Ann Arbor police department, because guns could be hidden in sweats. He also said that my friend not being able to wear any other pants, due to the giant cast on his foot, did not excuse his apparent breaking of the dress code. In theory, being persistent about the enforcement of a dress code is pretty reasonable, except for the fact that this club was not even being consistent. Not only were both of the bouncers wearing sweatpants, but also another random guy dancing inside had similar joggers on. Overall, the owner was very discriminating against my friend with his injury, and completely disregarding of the fact that the bouncer revealed the owner's sincere rules, that crutches are against the dress code. This establishment does not respect the american disabilities act, and the owner is the one enforcing it with manipulated rules. read more

There are different spots in the place, depending on what kind of mood you're into that night - a pretty loud section to share laughs and a quieter spot to have conversations. The food is great and price is reasonable. Only tried the tacos, but the food is very delicious. The tacos have a lot in them, and having three is pretty filling. Really delicious tacos at a very affordable price ($2.50-$4 for a double-wrapped taco overflowing with fillings). I am vegetarian and was not disappointed by the offerings. I tried the black bean, potato, and vegan chorizo (i.e. spiced tofu) tacos and loved each one. The potato taco in particular was amazing -- the combination of fried potato croquette, avocado, and crema was fantastic. I also got an order of the elotes and loved it too. The chipotle aioli paired wonderfully with the queso fresco. I highly recommend the Cantina for a quick, filling, affordable taco meal. read more
