Eat here all the time, love the food. However every time I come here I get food poisoning, and no I do not have any food intolerances/sensitivities to Mexican food or food in general. Chicken nachos and margarita chicken. The nachos were edible (and I'm not someone who can even eat frozen meals from the grocery store because none of them are good, so take this as you may). The margarita chicken was bad. Not edible, threw it away. My first thought was - I'm a new customer and I want to like you. But when I called to order (online ordering costs more and they factor in a 20% tip) and they wanted to know it was the Westland location (yes, I knew) but apparently they get asked a lot (?). First - they are in the process of separating from the "Don Juan" part of the name and just changing to Los Amigos. They are removed from the Don Juan's website - although they still have Don Juan menus and appear to serve all the same food as the rest of the Don Juan locations. My first visit was with a group of 12 for a work function. Tough to get there with some of the traffic/construction issues on Wayne, but that's not their fault. They seemed to have forgotten that I called to make a reservation for a large table - but they had enough space to push some tables together and accommodate us anyway. The menu is HUGE! Like 7 pages of items, so you can find exactly what you want. Good section of 8 or so vegetarian-specific items - which is much better than most Mexican restaurants where you're stuck with a bean burrito or veggie fajitas if you don't eat meat. Spicy and delicious salsa. Not watery and bland like so many of the competitors in SE Michigan. The guacamole was excellent - great presentation. I had the molcajete maya (ribeye steak, shrimp, chorizo, chicken, cactus, green chile sauce). I don't see nopale (cactus) on menus that often - It was fantastic! Loved the mix of meats, strong flavors, and it came out in a stone bowl. The rice was tender but a bti bland, so I dumped some of their salsa on it. Great refried beans. I ordered an horchata to drink, and it was also excellent. One of my favorite, and most authentic, Mexican meals I've had in Michigan. I only finished half of it, so it was enough for an entire additional meal. My coworkers all seemed pleased with their food. This place is for those who are patient. The food took a long time to come out - it was a solid 20 minutes from when we arrived until we placed our order, and another 30 minutes from when we placed our order until we received our food. It was a good thing the guacamole came out quickly and they were generous with chips and salsa refills. Server was polite and helpful and nice, though, so no complaints there. I'll definitely be back, and will try to work through some more of this formidable menu as they continue to evolve away from their "regional chain" roots. read more

The Blue Moon came without an orange slice. Waitress took forever to come give us our check. They charge you $1.50 per box if you want to take part of your child's meal home. They charge for using your credit card. They suggest 18%, 20%, or 22% for your tip. Meanwhile the service isn't that great. I do believe it's overpriced too. Will not be going there any longer. Good experience. We went early on a weekday for lunch. It wasn't crowded. We were seated right away. The chips and salsa were my favorite. The chips were warm and fresh. The mild salsa was better than the hot, in my opinion. The hot salsa was in fact, hot! Guacamole, freshly made & you guessed it, delicious. For my meal I ordered the taquitos. The flavor of the meet was just ok. I thought they were going to have cheese inside of them. If they did, I couldn't tell. The dollop of pico, sour cream & guac just wasn't enough. The waitress also forgot to place part of our order. When my combo plate came out the plate was super hot but the food was luke warm, not sure how that can happen. The street tacos were not that great either, they lacked flavor. We are a Mexican family, who eat out at Mexican restaurants frequently, and were extremely dissatisfied. I went here for dinner tonight. Ive lived in Canton my whole life, every few years i try giving this place another shot but it only validates why me and my family never go here. They serve food cold, and this has happened several times, not just warm, literally cold. got an enchilada and the cheese was not even melted inside, rice and beans are cold. If you only like American style Mexican food maybe you would like it... theres not that spice or authentic flavor that usual Mexican food has. Super bland. The waiter was attentive, and quick with the service that was provided, and the food was presented very well, and tasted delicious. I have never found THAT Mexican restaurant while living in Metro Detroit but always felt like Los Amigos was one of the better ones until last night. My son and I visited for dinner. He ordered three tacos while I ordered a combo plate of taco, enchilada and chalupa. We also ordered guacamole. First the guacamole: we are guacamole lovers and will happily chow down every last bite. But not last night. It just had no flavor and for $6.50 was a total waste. As far as our meals, it took forever to get them and when we did they were only slightly warm and just lacked flavor. I don't know what has changed with this place. I will give them one more chance because we have enjoyed them over the years. But if my next experience is similar we won't be making the drive here again. This place has okay food but the service is a bit chaotic. First a lady asked if we wanted guacamole (we assumed it was in addition to salsa since it wasn't the waitress and she asked so casually in passing seemingly). We said yes and ended up with a $12 guacamole bowl. Only one person ate guacamole at the table and said yes. They also put gratuity on the bill and don't let you know so watch your tips. Because it's so chaotic with food runners it lead to disconnects on who got what with our big party at two tables. A lot of our orders were wrong but had to wait for waitress to swing back around to tell her. The waitress must have gotten annoyed because she put on the misc extras on my bill and didn't split the way we mentioned (I get splitting the bill for a big party sucks but it was split three ways and we were all sitting accordingly it really wasn't disastrous.) It was very disappointing because we come here every year after an event and this will be the last year that we come here with our big party. When I called the manager acted "confused" about what I was saying, stating that she doesn't know how that's possible and blah blah blah, I literally was looking at the cc receipt that showed the amount it should have been and the bank account (that notifies me with every transaction) shows a different amount, and when you look at the receipt it shows what the additional amount is for 15% 18% 20% and the difference between the receipt and bank amounts is exactly 20%!!!!! Our party rolled in near closing time and ordered a couple of large entrees. Personally I ordered the Molcajete Maya which has to take some time to make. The staff was super friendly and got our food out quickly. We were visiting old friends so we ate slow and stayed a while after eating to chat. Never once did they remind us they were closing or pull the standard "get out" tricks. They just went on about their cleanup and let us chat. The Molcajete Maya was amazing. Typically when I visit the mid-west I'm disappointed with their mexican food. In Colorado we get great mexican food on every street corner but this was comparable to anything I would get at home. In short, great food, great staff, great value. The salsa was the only thing I would improve. read more

I ordered food online last week for carry out. When my wife went to get it they told her it would be ready in 10 minutes. After 10 minutes she asked about it again and they said someone already picked it up. They gave our food to someone else. They didn't apologize or even act like they cared. They told my wife they would void the transaction, but after looking at my credit card statement they charged me $40 for food we never got. Apparently they're too busy hanging out in the front to be bothered with things like food for customers. If you go in and eat, unless you have one of the two good waitresses, you have to go up front to find your server just hanging out talking. read more

Over the past 25 years in Metro Detroit, there has been a proliferation of Mexican restaurants, throughout the Tri-County area. It used to be if you wanted authentic cuisine, you had to travel down to Mexican Town in Detroit, or suffer through some very bad Tex-Mex at the local Taco Bell, which was nowhere near being authentic in the very least. Thankfully, the past two decades have seen many Mexican restaurants in the area that are outstanding to say the least. Los Amigos in Westland, is one of my favorites. Not only is the food they serve affordable, but very tasty as well. I can honestly say that I have never had a bad meal at this establishment. Moreover, the servers at this Los Amigos are very knowledgeable about what they have when it comes not only to food, but drinks as well. I have been to some great restaurants in my lifetime, but when the server brings their bad attitude with them, then it's game over in my book. Conversely, I can say this is not the case at this restaurant. When it comes to Mexican food, I have a weakness for burritos. While some establishments serve their version of a burrito, with meat so tough and bland, you wonder if it's really what they say it is. I can honestly say that the beef and chicken burritos at Los Amigos are huge and delicious! Likewise, they will bring you extra sour cream if you want it, which is a plus in my book. One thing I really enjoy about this restaurant is the decor. You will have to see it in person to know what I mean, when it makes you feel that you're south of the border in a tropical climate. This is one way to chase away the wintertime blues in Michigan. read more

If I wanted loud music instead of a place to enjoy a family meal, I would go to a bar with the drunks where the music is load. I was asked if I wanted to speak with the manager, i declined the offer, i figure the manager can hear and if that's what they want to promote, well go for it. I will NEVER be back. Los Amigos at 7667 North Wayne Road is a pleasure and a treat. I love the décor. Parrots hanging from the ceiling and fancy-cut colored paper throughout. I haven't sat at the bar but it is tastefully designed as well. The paintings on the wall are very nice and so are the one embedded in the tables. My favorite dish at Los Amigos is the Camerones Chipotle. This is a plate of grilled shrimp in chipotle sauce and comes with rice, beans, avocado and tortillas. The smoky flavor of chipotle peppers is one of my favorites. The presentation of the meal is excellent as well. The staff is ready and engaged when we visit. Even at times when they were very busy we felt welcomed and had plenty of space and attention at our table. Prices are reasonable and there is plenty of parking. There are lots of shopping opportunities nearby including the Westland Mall which is a short walk or drive away. read more
