We had a great time celebrating Cinco de Mayo. It was a packed house and were given free shots of tequila walking in the door!!! How cool is that! It appeared to be a slow evening at Mojave Cantina. We were the only ones who were in the serving area. We had a great server, Brooklyn and both her and the shift manager were awesome and checked in with us a few time during our meal. We ordered what turned out to be a GIANT chicken burrito with beans and rice, and a ground beef Taco Salad! The complimentary tortilla chips were hot, crispy and oh so tasty with their awesome salsa. In the past we have enjoyed their Sunday brunch buffet. Definitely a buffet to experience. We'll definitely be back soon. read more

We accidentally stopped here for lunch. We had missed the place we intended to go in the construction! The parking lot was packed when we arrived just before 1, but the restaurant cleared out quickly. We opted to sit outside and it was lovely--just enough of a breeze. Our server was fantastic! We order the fajita salad--lunch size-plus bean and corn salad with cilantro lime dressing. It was fabulous! We were surprised at the quantity, and neither of us could finish our portions. The salsa is excellent and well complimented by the chips. Although we hadn't intended to go to this restaurant--it was so good, we will go back! The only reasons I did not give it Five stars is that parking was difficult to find a spot, our server did not explain the up charge for added items, and she never refilled the ice or water in our water glasses. read more

This place is alright. I had been eyeing it every time I'm in the area and I finally for a chance to try it. My dear friend and I treated ourselves to an extravagant lunch. The highlight of the meal, which is not to be understated, were the portion sizes. We started out with the Mojave Sampler and this could've fed both of us. We still had our entrees coming and knew we had an uphill battle if we wanted to finish (we just took leftovers home). I got the molcajete for my entree, already fighting for my life after the sampler platter, and this was another huge portion. The food was okay, flavor wise. Everything was pretty standard. Review for South Lyon location. First of all I didn't get the "Hooters" vibe some reviews claimed. Salsa was good. It's mild. Chips unremarkable. Salsa size guacamole was $9. But this is what I took away from this weird meal. The sauce on the enchiladas tasted like Ragu. It was very Italian in flavor. This is confusing to the palette because I kept feeling like I was eating ravioli or spaghetti. The flavor was so off. This is definitely not authentic Mexican food. read more

It's been about a year since we stopped in last. Our first visit was pretty darn good. This time I won't make a point to go back. Waitress was inattentive despite only 4 tables occupied. Had to ask for salt twice. Did not refill drinks. I got street tacos which were bland. Chicken was literally swimming in water so the tortillas were soggy. Queso had no flavor neither did the refried beans. Only thing worth mentioning was the salsa but not enough to venture back. Unfortunate since it's a nice place with great outdoor seating. read more

Went to Mojave tonight for dinner and was promptly seated. Waited 10 minutes before anyone came over to us. Finally a waitress came over and appeared to be high, took our drink order. After 10 more minutes and no drinks we got up and left. As we were leaving, low and behold there is our waitress in the parking lot smoking a cigarette (or who knows what). We've been to this restaurant a number of times and haven't had this bad of service before but after this experience we'll have to think twice about returning. read more

I have, however, been able to try a house margarita and really enjoyed it. My family continues to enjoy the chimichangas. Visited for the first time on a Wednesday evening with a friend for dinner and we sat on the patio. It was trivia night which was also a nice surprise! Service was a little slow but our waiter was very kind. We ordered margaritas immediately and I got a yummy mango margarita on rocks. They provide free chips and salsa!! For appetizer, we ordered the Mexican pizza which was so good! I got the fish tacos for dinner and they were delicious as well. I find the rice and beans at Mexican restaurants are usually bland but Mojave seasoned both very well. I went home with plenty of leftovers for a light lunch the next day. The verdict is still out. I came for a party of 12 with a reservation, but when we arrived, they weren't ready and eventually shuffled us into their side room bar adjacent. Our server was great. Despite being understaffed and overwhelmed on this particular evening, Callie did a great job. That aside, drinks took a really long time. Having expected that, I didn't bother ordering one, but I watched as it took about 30 minutes for everyone else's to come. The apps were the saving grace, but we didn't realize it at the time. I say that because the food didn't come for a really really long time. So long, in fact, that I had to leave because my 5 year old was pretty much done with waiting and I didn't want to stick around any longer to watch the wheels come off that particular bus. That said, I heard that 10-15 minutes after we left (at that point we had been in the restaurant for an hour and 45 minutes and sitting for 90 of them) that the food was ushered out. I'd add that it go rave reviews from a pretty critical group of foodies. They had bagged up my food and brought it home. The chicken enchiladas with poblano sauce and cilantro lime rice were pretty amazing, even lukewarm!! My little boy's chicken strips were really good too. I heard their sopapillas were some of the best my family's had in a while, which is very high praise. they also comped 4 of the tables desserts as a gesture of apology for the delay in the kitchen. All in all, I'll chalk it up to them still getting their sea legs, but at the very least, I'm looking forward to trying more of their food but in a smaller group. read more

Have been here a couple of times now since my previous review and sad to say it's worse. Many Mexican restaurants deliver food with a warning that your plate is hot. Looked like an upscale place, with large special bar menu. Service very quick and pleasant around noon on Friday. Place was freezing near the exit door (the main entrance is hidden at the back away from the road). The salsa was very black pepper tasting, I had the enchilada lunch, noting that the "lunch" prices are not very different in price from the other choices, but not as interesting. The food as delivered looked like it had started to slip off one side of the plate. These were probably the worst enchiladas I had ever had. They were watery, and the chicken one was filled with a lukewarm form substance that resemblance food. It was unclear how the cheese filling was prepared. It was very tough and crusty on the outside: perhaps it was microwaved too much then allowed to sit, with water being pored on it and then put under a broiler to lightly singe the sauce? The Fathers Day Brunch was very disappointing in South Lyon. Didn't tell us the prices went up dramatically for Father's Day. And the buffet didn't have the quality of food that it usually has. Also, less items. I have been a frequent diner at your SL location for the breakfast buffet and I can say I won't be back for a while. It cost $100 for my family and I can say it wasn't worth $20. I was highly disappointed by the food selection and all I had was fruit that didn't even taste good. Do better next time. I usually don't complain and didn't say anything at the time, but the more I thought about it the more mad I became. And $3.50 extra for coffee, is a bit ridiculous too. read more
