I had a nice time watching Samantha Fish and very much appreciate all the compliments on my BIRDS AREN'T REAL shirt. Staff were great. It was muggy but near 100 outside. I felt better leaving than I did entering. I think that's the best compliment one can give of a venue. Thanks! I'll have fond memories of The Token Lounge for a long time.

The Babys love The Token! Always a favorite stop! Thanks John Anton! The staff rocks! Garrett and Johnny Blaze! Rockin' crowd!

Love to see a show here! It's always up close and personal and even though this place has had its ups and downs, it reminds me of back in the day when we used to come here. Back then it wasn't layed out the same, no couches and coffee house furniture, but it's just the right place to see a show. King's X. . .I've been listening to them for 35 years and it's been good the last few times to see them so up close. . .and they still sound like they always did!!!

Where else can you see 80s hair bands that you didn't know were still together, plus local bands and stars like Scott Ian and George Lynch?

Ask the Community - The Token Lounge

Any opinions on whether GA/standing, "reserved table", or "main floor seating" is best here?

Small venue. Most of that is null and void. Either is solid I'm sure.

I know that The Token Lounge is mostly a stand up venue. However, I cannot stand for a whole concert. Is there a place to sit when one wishes to do that?

Yes they have tables with seating along with seating at the bar.

We started out with Happy Hour at The Fillmore Detroit Bar for food and a refreshing drink. The bar is the former State Bar. It is a cool place to chill and the service was very quick. I had a Watermelon Lemonade Riffresher, chicken tenders and fries. It was an excellent venue for us to hear from author Kamala Harris to talk about her new book, 107 Days. She was delivering a message on her short road to the presidential campaign and the state of affairs today that have many U. S. Citizens feeling emotionally hijacked....but I digress. This was a great opportunity to experience in such a beautiful venue. It truly reminded me of a more intimate Fox Theatre.

Beautifully decorated in the main space with gorgeous art on the walls and ceiling. Getting into the building was another story. Extremely long security lines, lots of steep stairs and semi clean bathrooms. I do understand this is a 100 year old building but some of it felt unsafe. I was seated in the upper balcony which made it hard to hear at times and difficult to see the main stage. There was a wide variety of drink options and food as well. Had a pretty good deal for popcorn and a drink for $10. The facility did its job but there are definitely room for improvements!

My first experience there happened to be a photo shoot that my friend Sarah did for her Alter Ego exhibition. I was very impressed by the studio space -- it was very roomy. In one part I saw Roost Roast's coffee roasting equipment (but no sign of Roost to bug him for a cup!). There was also a desk hosting a vintage typewriter and a curious manuscript. Another section had interesting tye dyed shirts? My friend Paul's spot had some equipment for music, and it was actually his band that I got to see perform later on in that space. It was very nice, you'll see familiar faces around town. It's non-smoking, but that's ok because the porch is a very cozy place to light one. You get a great view of the night sky -- plus it's juuuust far enough from downtown to be able to kick back and relax.

Love that there's a parking lot and that it's close enough to downtown for walking, but far enough that it has that tucked-away, off-the-beaten-path vibe. There is only one small bathroom, which is definitely a bummer, but I can deal considering the opportunities Yellow Barn affords for the talented go-getters in this town.

Sure, it sucks that that new management came in a few years ago and painted over a lot of the old scribblings. The place has luckily regained more posters & records covers, etc. to adorn the walls. You know what? The kids here are still kinda the same -- at least in all of the important ways. When I played a show here a coupla years ago, I met a super-cool gal who reminded me of a reflection of myself at 19 or 20 -- into poetry and rock and roll. We chatted about X, and I knew that the Halfass was in good hands of this next generation. This is where I ate many greasy pounds of tempeh and curly fries in school. It's also where I poured my broken 19-yr old heart out to friends working behind the counter, then used my meal card to buy and down an entire pint of Ben & Jerry's. Not too much later, I got to do my laundry (the washers were right on the other side of the wall) while watching Low. Throughout the years the EQMC consistently brings in great bands -- both local and touring. They also provided a home for the first few ever Bang! dance parties. I first spotted my current sweetheart here. I brought him along to a show here to get the official stamp of approval from a best friend while seeing Saturday Looks Good to Me. Who knows -- without the trifecta of the Halfass, the Pirate House (RIP), and the downtown A2 Kinko's, my life may have taken a very different course. But thankfully, the Halfass was and remains there -- providing delicious greasy-ass food, pretty reliably great people, and a little incubator for musicians and students with plenty of all-ages shows.

The first show I went to here, I left bored to get a sandwich from jimmy john's. When I came back, which was nice enough that it was allowed, I came back in time for some punk to try to steal money after jumping on stage and 'rapping'. It's nice to have some of the Detroit bands out in ann arbor, but if you have a car, it's nothing you couldn't see every week in Detroit or Ypsilanti.

The neutral colors of the basement-wood paneling soothe and relax the eye, while the faint smell of urinal cakes and stale trucker farts arrange a pleasant bouquet of scents throughout the establishment. While your olfactory senses are being massaged, feel free to take a load off in any one of the seven hundred chairs that are everywhere. Melt into your naugahyde seat and bask in the barely-there glow of the painstakingly recreated funeral home lighting. Obvious care has been taken to make sure all heath codes are followed, as the trash is politely relegated to the stage and the stall in the bathroom conveniently has no door, promoting the community open-air ethos of the bar. The staff is friendly and attentive and the patrons will welcome you with open arms. All of these things work together to ensure that Ramey's becomes almost an extended family as soon as you walk in through the beautiful threshold - the sixteen ton door slamming shut behind you with the force of five or six rhinoceros, so as to seal in all the fun. And speaking of fun, it's certainly something Ramey's isn't lacking in! The jukebox conveniently has all of your favorite Jimmy Buffet and Limp Bizkit tunes and is sure to get any party started. Pull up a seat with a couple of friends and strap yourselves in for a rousing game of video poker on any of the two machines (but be advised: it can be a bit of a wait to get a chance to play, as these machines are in pretty high demand). See if you can beat my high score! An extensive food menu is sure to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters with a veritable smorgasbord of options. The beer connoisseurs among us will be greeted by a cornucopia of domestic brews ranging from Bud to Bud Light and hard-to-come-by imports like Labatt Blue or Labatt Blue Light. And for the health-conscious patron, Ramey's has thought to even include an exercise bike to work off those calories right there as you gain them. It is quite obvious that Ramey's has taken some pretty big steps to remain Green and environmentally-friendly. In order to cut down electrical usage the bar floor hasn't been vacuumed in what has to be decades, allowing for a colony of mice to form around it and clean it themselves - the organic way. The clock on the wall may or may not be plugged in to conserve some extra wattage. The walls are coated in a viscous glaze of farts, sneezes and moist depression, reminding you that Ramey's refuses to use harsh cleaner chemicals in order to prevent toxic runoff into our beautiful nearby rivers. So come on by! Saddle up and unwind with a nice whiskey and Big K Cola, straight from the two-liter. Reconnect with some old friends and leave with a couple new ones. Soak up the atmosphere as the cares of the world seem to melt away. Barf wherever you like. And hey, you might even get the chance to see Ramey himself if you're lucky enough! The only thing holding this place back from a perfect five star review is that there are just too many chairs.
