it's just a hole in the wall in a strip mall.. if I were the owner that would be on my T-shirts, napkins, and sign out front. It accurately describes the vibe. And I don't mean that in a negative way. There's not a bad seat in the house. And it's odd that there would be so many seats, considering it hosts a lot of live music and local bands, including some heavy stuff. Always a little disconcerting when you see people moshing to the left and sitting at high top tables to the right. pretty sure the bartender ripped us off to the tune of at least five bucks. Not sure how one bottle of water and one Diet Coke is 12 bucks, but there we were. Small price to pay when you're watching a mediocre slipknot cover band. what it lacked in authenticity it more than made up for in entertainment value. It was a good time. Like I said there's not a bad "seat "in the house. Everyone was jamming and getting along really well. I felt safe. 20 bucks cover at the door nothing crazy. The parking is plentiful and well lit. They packed over 700 people into this venue with no seats at all for the recent Los Lobos show. Stage is too low for standing room only - couldn't even tell who was playing a solo. Sound was dangerously loud - 110 dB. Bouncer was a jerk. We waited in line, showed ID and got wristbands from one employee who said we could use those to go straight in when the show started. But when we showed them to the guy at the door he refused to let us in and wouldn't listen to reason. So we waited in line a second time for over 20 minutes. All those people had arrived way after us. When we finally got in after missing part of the opening act, there was really nowhere to stand where we could see the stage. After 6 or 7 songs we just gave up and went home. Total waste of money. I won't be returning to The Token Lounge ever again. read more

Way too small for national acts that are likely to sell out. They cram way too many people in which makes it completely not enjoyable and probably unsafe. The stage is low which makes it impossible to see the band let alone the instruments they are playing because of course there are no tables or chairs, everyone has to stand for the entire show. Felt like nothing short of a big money grab. Will never go there for a show again. read more

Love to see a show here! It's always up close and personal and even though this place has had its ups and downs, it reminds me of back in the day when we used to come here. Back then it wasn't layed out the same, no couches and coffee house furniture, but it's just the right place to see a show. King's X. . .I've been listening to them for 35 years and it's been good the last few times to see them so up close. . .and they still sound like they always did!!! read more

The bar is rather large, and had lots of selections, considering the size of The Token Lounge as a whole. Also, it was clean and the staff was friendly. However, it's a time consuming effort getting in for a show because it seemed that everyone had to get their tix via will call. Also, there was no security in the venue, which is unheard of in 2019. Lastly, it is very small and cramped inside. If you go, be prepared to wait in line outside, and to be pushed and elbowed endlessly when you're inside. Overall, we marked off another concert venue on our list with our visit here but we're in no hurry to go back. read more

No good way for getting inside. You have to stand in line for hours if you want to see anything!! So, be prepared to freeze your ass off. Once inside, they have to look through a list on paper rather than having something digital. That's why it takes so long to get in the door when the line finally starts moving. There's no seats anywhere. If you have anything wrong with you that makes prolonged standing difficult, don't bother coming. Good luck being able to move anywhere once you get inside. People are extremely rude. They either won't move or push you. If anything bad we're to happen, you're screwed because you will get trampled trying to move towards the door. Pretty sure they've exceeded the amount of people they can legally have inside. read more

I will never go back to this place again. The doorman was a total jerk. He was really nice to the people in front of me and then when I got to the front of the line, he started barking orders at me. I couldn't figure out what his problem was. He asked for my ID which I had ready for him and then said do you see your name on this list somewhere? I said yeah, right there. Then he started warning me that the seats were spoken for and don't try and sit in any of them! I'm like ok. I'm not sure why he said it like that. He made me feel like he had caught me before sitting in one. Not sure why he wanted to be so rude and take that tone with me it was my first time there. Also they have a no re-entry policy. My friend had a birthday that night and I wanted to go out and get his gift that I forgot to bring in and also put my coat in the car and I was told by him that I would not be let back in. Planned on having a great night but this guy put me in a bad mood walking through the door. I ended up back home by 9pm totally pissed off. There was no reason any establishment should treat a paying customer this way. This place might want to think about putting someone else at the door who knows how to treat people. The Token will never see a dime of my money again! I don't recommend this place to anyone! read more

So... I didn't even get in. I went to go see Tom Keifer with some people and for some reason was asked to show ID. I get it, I look young, but this is an 18 and up show and I'm 30 years old. Also I was with people who were younger than me who were not asked to provide ID. One of them had even told me that they watched a guy get in without being ID'd that looked half my age. Now, the reason I didn't have ID is because mine was lost a few days ago. Just clearing that up. And I assumed that since I obviously looks above 18 and had already purchased a ticket that there wouldn't be an issue. WRONG. Not only was I denied access, the guy was very rude about it. From what I see this place is managed horribly. As I waited outside the door for a ride I watched 30 plus people get in without being ID'd. Why did I get ID'd? I'm going to assume there was some sort of odd reason the ticket checker singled me out. I just don't know why. Oh and let me add that I had to wait outside for a ride for 30 minutes in cold as all hell weather because I wasn't allowed to wait inside. Can you be anymore of an asshole about this? I was polite and never once got nasty with the guy. Anyway... screw this place. Recently there was a hepatitis A break out there, so maybe I saved myself by not fully entering. Hopefully I get my money back or in some way I'm compensated. Maybe they need to hire new staff? We'll see how things go from here. I hope the owner or owners aren't anything like their shitty door guy. Sorry for the long rant, had to let out my anger. Steer clear of this place folks! Edit: Let me add that the people who I went with, the ones that did get in, mentioned to me that the place was obviously over packed and maybe the fire Marshall needs to go and check things out. I've been to 5 concerts solo and one here with my wife. About what others have wrote. My wife said the ladies room was clean but one of the toilets was out of order. I've not had a problem with the mens room even when the show was sold out. Small venue, perhaps 350 when sold out. Sound is fine. Some bands have alot of trouble with cables, instuments cutting out and mics not working but NOT the main acts. Not a bad seat in the house. I prefer the hi-top tables from a photography perspecetive....no one dancing around can get in the way of your filming on the high tables. What could make it better? Food would be nice. Non alcoholic drink prices could be lower too. $4.00 for a water or coke is a bit steep. Not letting waitresses bring a glass of ice for my wifes water was a bit much...that cost them a star. They do search bags now too. They didn't use to. read more

Was looking forward to seeing Buckethead on 3/29. This venue is standing room only...and that's what you will do...STAND...no chairs or stools to sit on at all. This place is crowded and hot. It was packed, I believe oversold. The bathrooms are all the way at stage right, and getting there was a 15 minute affair, as patrons had packed the place all the way thru the corridor to the restrooms. No bouncers, no security. It was hotter than hell. No ventilation, just sweaty bodies and bad breath. Couldn't see a damn thing, and people holding up cell phones made it worse. Ended up leaving early. They got our money but won't get it again. read more

Walked in around 11:30 pm. Online said it was a $10 cover. But came in to a $15 cover at the door. Since their was a live band playing we had to pay the cover. So we asked the lady running the entrance how much longer they'll play for. She said 12:30 to 1:00 give or take. I shit you not they played 2 songs and were done before midnight. We spent $40 at the bar & $30 for token tees. They got their money... we also booked 7 tix for a burlesque show in May. I asked her if we could push tables together for the show. She said they don't even reserve tables it's first come first serve. That our whole party would have to arrive together to be able to sit together. HEY GOOD TO KNOW that I paid extra for tables with the possibility that I can't even sit with my group. Y'all got your money tho... congratulations! Way to keep your customers coming back. Very disappointed in this place. I knew it was going to be small but the fact that they sold 700 tickets for a show in it was outrageous. Like other reviews said, it was overwhelmingly hot and there is absolutely no place in the entire building to take a seat. My mom, being from la, was very excited to see LA guns, Faster Pussy cat, and Cinderella and it was completely ruined. Doors opened at 6 and the show didn't start until 7:30. After it finally started She was already about to have a heat stroke and by the end of the first set LA Guns finally made it on she had to push her way through the crowed to go outside and throw up because of the heat. She did not even have a single drink so that wasn't a factor. Not even my 23 year old girlfriend or I, 24, could bare the heat inside this place. It has to be a safety hazard to have 700 people packed into this little building. Then, on top of that, the bouncers at the door had the nerve to laugh at my mom struggling all snarky as she struggled to even get out the door because there was people packed all the way from the front of the stage to the bar top in the back. I had already left out to the car because I couldn't be in there and then she called me from the parking lot crying, throwing up and out of breath. Avoid this place like the plague! read more

I have been here a few times to see old 80s bands. It usually is a good time. The crowd tends to be adults at these shows and not alot of drama. Unfortunately one of the bartenders was yelling at everyone to not stand at the bar over and over. It was not busy enough for anyone to have trouble getting a drink. It was slow enough that we could look down the bar at other people being yelled at as well. There is no where to sit, so where are people supposed to stand? Then some young guy was yelling at every one to not stand at the bar. This is all happening at 10pm. We bought tickets to pay for expensive shots, a terribly rude bartender and show we couldn't see. Terrible venue. Terrible drinks. Terrible service. Not worth the ticket. Sad. Will be sure to let others know it's not worth it. read more

The Jokin' Token! That's what it was referred to in the area back in "the day" as people say much too often these days...I actually got refused admission to this dump back in the mid-late 70's for wearing a T-Shirt! You actually have to have been to the Jokin' to appreciate this irony! My son used to play here with his band back about 15 years ago or so. They have cleaned it up...a LOT! It was the kind of place that you really didn't want to drink out of the glasses & you REALLY didn't want to use the restroom! I repeat...they have cleaned it up a lot & they redid the restrooms. It's really a decent place to see a show. Small venue. I was there to see Magic Bus, a 60's tribute band that you need to see. Normally a stand up type of place, they had the forethought to anticipate the audience. Most of them are too old to stand up through an entire show, so they had seats & tables. I thought the drinks were a little pricey. I guess 4 bucks for a beer during a show isn't too bad, but it was also $4 for a coke! The place has to have something going for it, it's been there forever! If you have a chance to see a show there, go!.. Oh...& yes...you will be let in wearing a T-shirt! read more

I go to a lot of shows at small "hole in the wall" places. Needless to say, I won't ever be visiting The Token Lounge again. I have wanted to see a particular band for around 3 years, so when I saw they were playing near me, I was stoked. Unfortunately, the venue ruined the experience for me. The guy at the door was rude because I have different color hair than in my ID photo from 4 years ago (sorry, I'm a hair stylist and my hair changes on an almost weekly basis). The blonde behind the bar was really friendly; as long as you had a penis. It was next to impossible to get a drink from her, yet every male around me had no trouble. When she finally did wait on me, she had an attitude. Previously being a bartender, it's not the best way to make money. Try a different tactic, like being friendly to everyone. This was all even before the show started. During the several opening bands, I saw the sound tech constantly running (jumping, skipping, frolicking, and whatever else he was doing) back and forth, interrupting the bands while they were playing to tinker with their stuff. It was no different for the headliner that I've wanted to see for 3 years. They sounded terrible thanks to the sound tech, because he kept adjusting and adjusting and adjusting... There was no consistency. Drums up, vocals way down. Bass up, feedback screeching. Vocals up for half a song, then turned back down to barely being able to be heard. Oh, and no soap in the bathroom. Come on now. I'm not one to leave negative reviews, but something had to be said. read more

First and last time. Standing almost 3 hours for main act not fun for the not so young members of our group. Stuck standing by bar and sound was horrible and almost no view. Arrived for a show that had reserved main floor table seating at 6:30. The doors opened at 7 we were seated at a table all the way to the side of the stage in front of the speaker, while people that arrived 90 minutes later than us got to to sit front row center. This is BULLSHIT!!!!! Whoever gets here early should get the prime tables. This is total Crap!!!! read more

Saw Jimmy Vaughn last night (he was great!). He took the stage at 8pm as advertised. Hadn't been to venue in decades and was pleasantly surprised how well run, clean and organized event was. With a standing room only ticket I worried about being able to see but I could see fine. Building is rectangular and stage is on long side of room so there isn't a bad seat/stand. People seemed to be courteous not to stand in front of those seated. Venue limited tickets to no walk-ins so the number of people was very comfortable. Plenty of free on site parking in the lot. Great crowd, waitress, bartender, doorman. For a concert a $7 rum/coke was acceptable (owner needs to pay entertainment, employees & overhead). I'll be back! read more
