I'm not one to complain. I'm a quiet and easy going person, however my most recent experience (10/14) at this establishment was regrettably distasteful. I won't bash this establishment, because it is very lively and the food is good. Although the communication could have been a lot better. If reservations were made after 11pm, and any patrons that arrive prior to 11pm had to leave by that time. We as consumer should've have known that walking in the door. We should not have been told we had until 11pm, but have management tell us something different 20min later. Further, in my opinion, harassed every five minutes following. I feel like we should've been notified that we as soon as we arrived as a courtesy to the patron. Because it really appeared as if this establishment took our money and then kicked us out! My first time at Love and Tequila Detroit, I thought was amazing. However this second visit has left a very bad taste in my mouth. Especially since I hyped this place up to my sisters. And their experience was ruined due to lack communication and professionalism. For future reference, simple communication and transparency can take you a long way! Just do better. Or if you find communication as confrontational, if there was something making reference on the company website that would save you a lot of miscommunication or lack there of.

Went during the grand opening and it was super fun! If you're looking for a Latin night this is definitely your spot! The music was amazing and the drinks were delicious. I got the frozen skull and it was very good. I sat at the bar and the bartenders were attentive and made sure to check if I needed anything. Tequila, good music, and cerveza = a good time!

Went here for cinco de Mayo had the spicy watermelon margarita and it was so good. Very spicy the watermelon was very subtle and the glass very cute and on theme. Friends ordered the passion fruit margarita and the mystic marvel . Mystic marvel was supposed to come with a glitter bomb but we didn't see any glitter and my friend was quite disappointed about that. I had the shrimp tacos they were phenomenal, the elote crema sauce was the perfect accompaniment to them. My girl had the birria tacos and we swapped one taco each, the shell was soooo crispy and perfect on the birria taco and the meat was seasoned very well. Service was not good at all. It's understandable that a Mexican and tequila restaurant would be super crowded on Cinco de Mayo but it's seems management there was clueless this would occur. The bar is huge and they only had two bartenders who appeared to be very overwhelmed by the crowd. One bartender was servicing only one small area of the bar and it was to the point I wondered if they were her friends because she was SUPER attentive to them while ignoring everybody else. We only were able to order food after sitting for about 30 minutes and asking a guy behind the bar (not sure what his role was but he was adamant he wasn't a bartender) to flag down one of the bartenders. The people next to us waited about 30-40 minutes trying to order their first drink in vain and eventually gave up and left. Also the bartender who made our drinks had a bad habit of making the drink, serving it to us and then at that moment telling us she was out of ingredients essential to the drink and "is that ok". She made us lemon drops and only after she gave them to us did she state she didn't have simple syrup...which is pretty essential; not sure what sweetener she did have but the drinks ended up being ok. Also when we ordered our first round of lemon drops we forget to specify the martini and she didn't ask so we ended up with lemon drop shots. So the next round we specified lemon drop martinis and after she made and presented them to us is when she said she was out of martini glasses and was that ok. It really wasn't because she gave them to us in the same kind of glass our shots were in and, to us, it only looked like a little more was in the glass. We expressed our concerns with her and she became argumentative with my friend to the point we had to end the conversation because it was getting heated.

Went here with a couple of friends randomly for a night out. We had such a good time! There was a live DJ when we were there, and the music was really good. It's more of a place for a younger crowd looking to have a good time. They had a special on drinks so we got some, and they were very good and looked cute! Our server was also really nice. We also all got birria tacos and those were also so delicious! This is a really cool spot to go for a night out or before a concert/event! Great time!

The music hits, the crowd is always lively, and it just feels like summer no matter what time of year it is. The Long Islands are ON POINT. Strong, smooth, and perfectly balanced. Not watered down, not overly sweet -- just right. You definitely feel like you're getting your money's worth, and they're dangerously easy to sip. I love the overall vibe here. It's social, upbeat, and perfect for hanging with friends. If you want good music, great drinks, and a guaranteed good time, The Skip should absolutely be on your list. We made reservations in a weekend but it wasn't necessary at 5. What I didn't know what this theme is a pop up much like Miracle Bar around Christmas. The mugs are not really made for The Skip and can be found online for less. Most importantly is the drinks are not good. They're not spirit forward, they're full of mixers. Such a bummer because they do make good cocktails occasionally. We were one and done this evening due to the bad drinks and loads of people who brought their kids to this bar. The decor is great. Service is attentive and friendly. Not in a rush to return.

Downtown Detroit definitely feels different now, and the crowd has shifted a bit, but none of that took away from what The Standby is. That alleyway magic is still there. Walking in honestly felt like a little blast from the past, and it made me really happy. It ended up being a highlight of my trip home. The food was phenomenal. The crab was so buttery, the waffle situation was amazing, and the overall execution across the menu was impressive. We ordered a lot, basically half the menu and everything hit. * Short rib plate: delicious, rich, and comforting * Chicken schnitzel with curry mustard: WOW. Juicy, crunchy, fresh, perfectly seasoned. The curry mustard was everything, and that little pepper on top? 10/10. This was hands down my favorite dish. * Drinks: They had brand ambassadors for Wild Turkey, giving out free Old Fashioneds, which was honestly the perfect touch. We also had a small ounce pour of a mezcal that was beautifully smoked, super aromatic and smoky in the best way. Service was great too, we had two different servers, and both were attentive and kind. The only miss for me personally was the pastrami salmon toast. I wanted to love it so badly because I love salmon and I love smoked fish, but it just wasn't for me. I actually sent it back (which I felt bad about). I think the slight sweetness, (possibly from the tomato jam)threw it off for my palate. I was craving something fully savory with a bit of acidity. I think a thicker, crunchier toast and a more umami-forward, citrusy or pickled element might have taken it where it needed to go. That said, I know pastrami-style salmon is a thing right now, it just didn't work for me. Everything else? Truly amazing. The Standby will forever be a place I come back to when I'm home. I'm excited to return, see what's new on the menu, and relive that magic again. Highly recommend. 10 out of 10. Will absolutely be back.

I ordered the Trolley Express: 2 eggs with home fries (yum), my choice of turkey sausage and delicious sourdough toast )$25). No regular milk was available and I didn't want soy, almond and whatever the third one was, so I got green tea. It was fabulous, a blend of jasmine and green tea leaves. We ordered it online after, can't wait. Several prints ( blown up postcards) of the trolleys of Detroit; very cool and hence the name. I took one look at the menu and cocktail list, and determed that we would be going somewhere else to eat afterwards, thinking, "this won't be a long visit at all." But oh was I pleasantly surprised. So then we decided on round two of cocktails the plate of chips, avocado toast and another round of pork belly! Again, divine. Although I will admit, everything got dipped into the pork belly sauce. Was tempted to do a round three to try the highly recommended lobster rolls but decided to save something for the next visit because there will be one. They executed all the small plates exceptionally well. And the cocktails were top quality! Only complaint was the seats are very low to the ground. I'm short and my legs were aching. I can only imagine how uncomfortable those with normal legs feel after dining. BTW my daughter and her friends had a wonderful birthday celebration but ended up leaving us adults there because we were having such a good time!
