I was on my way to a see a show at the Fox and as my friends and I were walking past, we noticed the Park Bar and all of their Christmas Decorations. We only had a couple minutes but could not pass up the opportunity to stop in. We decided to check it out for one quick drink. I LOVED it!!! They served the most delicious drink in the cutest holiday cups!!! The bartender was so nice and helpful. He knew we were in a hurry and made our drinks quickly. Everyone who knows me knows my love for Michigan craft beers! When I saw Night Tripper on tap I was all set!! Bar tenders are super fun and do a great job keeping up. We usually come here before a Tigers game, but we decided to have a few drinks before a show at the Fillmore and it was still a cool atmosphere. Went here on a non-Tigers Saturday night hoping to get the poke (bowls of rice with a combination of fish and veggies). It wasn't very busy so they weren't selling poke that night since the fish is so perishable. Their menu is a Hawaiian/Asian menu with plate lunches that include a salad, macaroni salad, rice, and main dish (garlic shrimp, broccoli in peanut sauce, shoyu chicken thighs, teriyaki steak, loco moco which a hamburger with fried egg on top). It is a huge amount of food for the money and it was really delicious. The salad dressing that I had was creamy tofu and it had a nice kick to it. They also have things like seaweed salad, edamame, and some holo dogs (sausage on a bun). Jerry, the owner, was friendly and interesting. The bar tender and chef were also really nice. The ever so trusty Park Bar. I love this place,, just because there's no drama, no gimmicks, just an awesome place to go with friends have a drink and shoot the breeze. Craft beers on tap listed on the blackboard on the wall. Almost any cocktails you can think of plus none of the "I just turned 21" crowd. This is probably one of my go to spots for drinks in the city. Specially if I just want a beer. Wait for the crew to assemble, or end the night for a final drink. I must mention if you're also looking to eat something. The brand new legendary Hawaiian hole in the wall joint is partnered with them. The servers will gladly take your order, and bring em back to you at your table. It's a win-win situation for you and the servers. You get food and they get bigger tips. Weeeeeee!! Service is amazing here,, never have I had a bad experience. Plus the atmosphere is not snooty and everybody seems to be welcome here. Stopped in for cocktails before dinner downtown. The holiday menu/Miracle takeover is fantastic! Every inch of the bar is decked out in holiday finery, right down to the tabletops. We tried the Chrismapolitain, the Partridge in a Pear tree and the yipee ki yay mother******. They were all strong, but delicious. The yippee was based on a sweet potato casserole with hints of citrus and marshmallows. The Partridge served up ample amounts of pear, smoke and bitters, in a good way. They have a small snack menu, but we were trying to save room for dinner. Next visit, I would love to try out the homemade Chex mix and the terrine and pickles, yum! read more

A decent place to stop off when you are downtown for a Tiger game. The bar is fine, the drinks are well made but not cheap. Beer selection is decent. Service is ok, nothing that will impress but it will not piss you off either. The main reason to swing by here is the food from the Bucharest. The chicken shawarma is fantastic. I prefer mine without the fries but I am probably in the minority. This sandwich any way you do it up though is just stellar. You will dream about it later. My husband is not a middle eastern fan in any fashion but he was thrilled with his dogs. These beat the stadium handily. He liked the chicago style but was blown away by the spicy 1920 red hot. I like the atmosphere here fine and if I were to include the food in the rating it would be higher but just as a bar itself this place is only average. I like it but I do not love it and without the food I would not be running here. I could skip the bar shit and just get takeout to be frank and be fine. read more

Hung out at the Park Bar post an excellent day the the Detroit Urban Craft Fair. Naturally my famished friends and I all ordered schwarmas from Bucharest Grill and, since they deliver them to your spot at the Park Bar, we pulled up some seats at the table and chatted while we waited for our eats. Park Bar is the perfect place for a night like this--when you're kind of mellow and tired but still up for chatting with friends and having a drink. Not crazy crowded, not super loud, good food (via Bucharest) and tunes coming through the PA. Throw in some fantastic company and a crazy awesome beer selection (including local brews) and you're all set. It's clean, spacious, and affordable to boot! The perfect place for a low key night out that isn't a crazy icky dive bar. In short: I *heart* you Park Bar! read more

I'd definitely suggest stopping in at Park Bar especially over the holidays. This year they have transformed into Miracle's pop-up Christmas themed bar which appears in bars all over the country. Last year The Skip hosted Miracle pop-up bar which was awesome but it's even better at Park Bar since it's a much larger space and can accommodate a lot more people and larger groups and feels less squished than at The Skip. Park Bar is located right next door to Cliff Bells and isn't too far from LCA, The Fox, and Fillmore so makes a great place to stop after a show. When you enter you'll notice Christmas lights everywhere, Christmas music playing, and large brightly wrapped presents hanging from the ceiling over the circular bar in the center of the establishment. There is seating around the bar and several tables around the perimeter and a few booths as well. The decorations were so festive and attentive to detail. We sat by a Christmas tree and windows covered in snowflake windows clings and every table is even decorated with a snow covered reindeer scene center piece. Even the bathroom was completely covered in shiny tinsel! The festive atmosphere at Park Bar definitely puts you in the mood for the holidays. If that wasn't enough Christmas cheer, the Miracle menu has excellent Holiday Spirits and I'm not talking about the kind in A Christmas Carol. There are ten holiday themed cocktails and naughty and nice shots. Most drinks are around $12. The menu was pretty similar to last year but changed slightly. My go-to is the Yippie Ki Yay Mother F*****! because Die Hard is a Christmas movie and also this drink is a delicious tropical rum drink with subtle hints of sweet potato flavor served in an adorable Santa Pants mug! What more could you want?! My friend ordered the Jingle Balls Nog, a cinnamon, cherry, vanilla, nutmeg eggnog drink that she said tasted like Christmas in a cup. It was a little small though and is served in an adorable miniature Christmas coffee mug. Although not on the menu, make sure to ask about the Christmas cookies. I believe they bake a different kind each day and for $5 you get two cookies wrapped in a cute cellophane festive wrap. We split the ginger cookies and they were so delicious. If you fall in love with the festive mugs, they also sell them for around $18. We had a great time here. We came after the Eve 6 concert pretty late and there were only a handful of people here but I'm sure it's getting busier here since we're getting even closer to the holidays. This review is for the Miracle Christmas bar that happened over the holidays in 2018. There are pop up Christmas takeovers that happen all over and Detroit has had one for the past couple of years. I read about this one online and thought it would be fun to check out while my boyfriend and I were in town for the Lions game around Christmas. They do take reservations but we stopped by hoping to grab a seat at the bar. We were able to find some standing room by the rail over to the side of the bar. The whole bar was decorated with lights, greenery and garland, fun ornaments and table top items, and presents hanging from the ceiling. All the bartenders and servers were dressed in holiday sweaters too. The drink menu was holiday themed with festive names and they all come in Christmas glasses. I got the Yippie Ki Yay, which is supposed to be sweet potato casserole themed, and my boyfriend got the eggnog. Both drinks were delicious! The eggnog tasted like you want an adult eggnog to taste like - rich, creamy, and boozy! The mug it came in was so cute and you could even purchase a set of them for $20. I was tempted but passed this time. My drink was also wonderful - it was actually very refreshing and had a tropical feel to it and it wasn't heavy at all. Hard to say to much about Park Bar because it's a pretty basic spot, but I think it's worth stopping by for a pint if you're wandering around downtown. However it might be hard to find as there's no sign. It's in a great location right by Cliff Bells and has big floor to ceiling windows to watch the buzz of the city go by. The main feature is a big round bar in the middle of the room. The seats are pretty comfy, the service is friendly, and the prices are reasonable. It's also connected to Bucharest Grill if your in the mood for some uber-garlicky middle eastern food. For my first visit to Park Bar, I wasn't overly impressed but the fact that they have several Michigan beers put a smile on my face. I only wish I had come hungry...people were flying in and out all lunch hour to hit up the Bucharest for shawarma, etc., which I hear they do really really well. I'm still not sure if we had a server or not but the bar was pretty full around 2 on a Tuesday so dealing directly with the barman was the best option. It has a very Detroit feel to it and overlooks some run down buildings which despite the blight is kind of cool. I really need to go back again as I'd bet this could become one of my favorite Detroit spots. Still gotta try the Bucharest too. read more

I have seen so many cockroaches at this bar its disgusting. The owner doesn't care because he doesn't have to deal with the bugs. If you look into the crack where you can walk into the bar then you will most likely see 2 antennas sticking out but not a t.v. those are cockroaches. Wouldn't be surprised if the kitchen also had roaches. All the beers on tap pour mostly foam taking 4 minutes to pour one beer. Ahhh good ol Detroit. read more

I've been to the Park a handful of times, and initially my impression was that it was a pretty cool spot. A big thing for me with bars, is friendly bartenders who make me feel like they appreciate my business and are happy I'm there. Even when sitting at the bar on a slow weeknight, I never was very impressed by any of the staff. If I've had 3 of the same drinks, and you've poured every one for me, I would think by the time I ask for a 4th you wouldn't have to say, "what were you drinking?". But either way, the atmosphere is pretty cool, and while they aren't the cheapest they're not the priciest I've seen either. So I was cool with it. About a month ago, I was there on a weeknight (again, not busy) and found myself waiting longer than I should have when I came up to the bar for a refill, as the bartender chatted with others. Annoying, but I let it go. Then finally last week, after sitting for literally 15 minutes and being ignored at the bar (again - weeknight, not busy, bar not even half full), I just left. Any Detroit bar on a weekday needs to show appreciation to the people who patronize them...we are the ones who keep them going when it's not a game night and no suburbanites are out. Shame on them. It's sad, too, because there are a lot of other great things about this place (location, crowd, beer selection, etc) and if they didn't take a service crap on me everytime I was here, this would probably be my regular joint. Instead, I have a hard time even recommending it to people. read more

The owner of this bar is doing a lot for this section of this city. This includes starting a currency to keep business local, helping fellow entrepreneurs open two seperate restaurants in his building, letting local theatre groups rehearse in the space above his bar and providing a safe corner on a pretty rundown block. The beer selection here is both very local and international. I would say the 25 taps are half Michigan (including New Holland's Poet Stout, mmm...) and great international selections. The bar is round and intended to be a place for people to see each other and meet new people. Last time I was in, the owner and his coworker were fitting back rests to some very cool, new benches. There are some televisions here, but after listening to the owners interview about the place (on NPR's "The Story") I have come to expect them to be off more than on, they're only used for games and movie nights. Something that is really special about this place is the new currency they are supporting called the "Detroit Cheer". These $3 bills are valued at 3 dollars and are usable at a bunch of businesses downtown. Ask for your change in Cheer and keep it local. There is great food provided in-house by the attached restaurant, Bucharest Grill. Delicious Shwarmas and the pork steak dinner is the best deal in town. I have gained some great friends through this bar and am now familiar with its staff and owner, great folk all. They take pride in the D. If you live in the city proper, let them know, it might get you a little treat. read more

Darwinian evolution may well reward the type equipped with the skill for hearing conversation in a bar with high ceilings, loud music, and lack of acoustic dampening. That's too bad for the rest of us, because the circular bar layout would otherwise be a brilliant social facilitator. While you can make eye contact with someone all the way across the bar, you may not be able to hear a word the person two seats down from you is saying. Still, it's a good spot to sample a wide range of local beers here (including Motor City and Short's Soft Parade) while enjoying a meal from Bucharest Grill. My friends thought the beer selection was quite nice. We were there on a not very busy night, and had a great bartender. I'm not a big beer person, I don't really know what I like most of the time. The bartender gave me about 4 samples based on what I normally drink, and I settled on Magic Hat #9. So yes, I was a fan of this establishment given my experience. --------------Debate!------------- Bucharest and Park Bar have an obvious business relationship that is mutually beneficial. One makes food, one offers seating and drinks. That being said, both the 'rate with Bucharest considered, and not considered' can be debated. Bucharest provides the food runners, and bus boys from what I saw. Park Bar does only drinks. With that in mind, at the end of the day, would I mark Park Bar down if the food wasn't good, NO! I'd say, well by beer was good and seating was nice, but Bucharest blew it. Given that consideration, it's not fair IMO to flip it around and give Park Bar a rating boost based on the good food. I've been here a few times and all of my experiences have been good. I write this review with hesitation because I think this place is cool, but I believe that this issue needs to be addressed. I ate at Bucharest today and sat in the seating area at Park bar, and I asked the bartender for some water. She said "I'll have to charge you a dollar for that". I really hope that this was just the bartenders policy, because trying to sell someone tap water is not good for business and will not give me any future incentives to want to return to Park bar. I'm kind of bitter about this bar. It's an awesome bar, with a great setup, great location, and great atmosphere, but the service is absolutely wretched. The bartender will literally ignore you and clean the bar in front of you, while not serving you. If you get there before a 1:00pm Tiger's game, they will act like you're not there, and act like they're doing YOU the favor by serving you, when they get around to it. They pride themselves on over-pouring, which is fine with me. You definitely don't have to order a "double" at this joint, but they're snobby if you're not a fan of super strong drinks. I've literally heard them argue with patrons that have asked for more mixer in their drink... Maybe it's because they only want to pour you one every two hours??? Honestly, if it wasn't for Bucharest being attached to this place, I probably wouldn't go back. read more

I want to preface this by saying that it pains me so much to leave a bad review. Park Bar is a special place for my husband and me (we were sitting at the bar when we found out that he got into law school 5 years ago) but after today's experience, I had to. Just had the WORST experience here! Ordered food at Bucharest and sat at the bar with my sister and husband. The bartender told us that we had to order something in order to sit at the bar, so my husband ordered a beer. The bartender then asked what my sister and I wanted, and we said that we were fine with the waters he had given us. He told us that we had to at least order a pop in order to sit there and when my husband questioned him, we were met with quite an attitude. When we got up to leave (stand at the counter so we could eat our food), the bartender told us that he needed to charge for our waters - $1 each! Completely ridiculous and by the way - we are still here and the bar is completely empty. I will return to Bucharest but will not be eating my food at Park Bar again. read more

Unlike a few other reviews, I refuse to give Park Bar credit for the food Bucharest Grill puts out. I don't care that they're connected. I don't care that you can sit at the Park Bar tables and eat Bucharest's food. The bartenders at Park Bar are...well, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say they're "flaky" instead of "bad". They're not very good at working a circular bar, even when there are three of them back there, and even when the bar's not that packed. Shouldn't have to wait so long to get a fresh drink, let alone a first drink. They tend to congregate on one side and start chatting with each other...which means they can't see the other side of the bar...which means that you're boned if you're on said other said of the bar. Not so good. However...prices are decent, and it's an easy enough watering hole to get to on game day, but there are too many other options with better service. They'll get me because of the connection to Bucharest...but if I'm not hungry, I won't be going there. read more

this is the kind of bar i'd always hoped to exist. it's spacious and open and there's a big beer selection and it's all on tap. the windows are big and the booths are comfortable. you can get food if you want. the circle bar is cool for if you want to look at everyone else at the bar, but i think it's nicer to sit in the booths. mostly i like it because you don't have to be anything. it's not too cool or too hip for you. and it won't make you feel that way. you could be going to a game, you could have just gotten off work. you could be there on an afternoon date. you can be anything and get a buzz doing it. read more

I've always wanted a neighborhood bar, a place that feels unpretentious and comfortable, a place that feels uniquely Detroit. A place where the bartender cared to remember my drink and had it poured as I pulled up a chair. Park Bar is that place. Local flavors, cheap drinks, floor to ceiling windows that give you a full view of a re-awakening Detroit, and an owner that is enthusiastic about the potential of our little city as I am. Who could ask for more than that? This is a place I fully support. The atmosphere depends on the night. During baseball season you'll see more jerseys than anything else. It's not uncommon to see Theater patrons before or after a show. It's a great place before concerts (or even during lunch!) The restaurant attached to the bar is actually romanian, but heavy with the middle eastern flair. The food is also reasonably priced, flavorful (if you like garlic) and is a better alternative than the late night Taco Bell stop. I hope his enthusiasm rubs off on a few more people as he makes the stadium district a more vibrant place to hang out. read more

The Park Bar is a solid place to visit at night. Always a lot of bustle from the pre Tigers game crown, pre/post-Cliff Bells jazz club and regulars - a 20-60s range mixed crowd, maybe a couple of flipped collar bros, barflies venturing outside the Ferndale circuit. I like it because it feels very come as you are. I'm a fan of sitting at the bar. It wraps around the center of the space, giving plenty of people watching opportunity. The big glass windows face the street, so you feel like you are in the center of the action. Lots of table options, as well. I am pretty content with my MCB Ghettoblaster, but you will find a many great Michigan beers on tap (respect!). Plenty of flatscreens to watch the game, and access to the delicious Bucharest Grill. read more

It's decent. I have performed in several shows at the Elizabeth Theatre (upstairs) and people always seem to get /really/ confused trying to find it. It's located downtown, so of course, parking is a nightmare and, when you can find it, more often than not expensive. I like the bar staff and am always treated well. read more

We stopped here after the baseball game to enjoy a beer and some food from Bucharest Grill. What a great combo. I like that it's a circular bar so that it's easy to get to a bartender without trying to chase them down at the other end. It makes it much easier when the crowd gets bigger. The bar wasn't too busy when we walked in, so we had no problems finding a little table for 2. They have decent seating at the tables and bar. As mentioned in other reviews, it's not the cleanest place, but it's okay. I think it's a little odd that they only have one bathroom for women, and noticed the line get a little long a couple of times. That line seems to follow out into the bar area, which I imagine can be a bit of an issue if it were busier. It's nice to know there's a bar near Comerica Park/Ford Field that seems a bit hidden & not overly crowded immediately after a game. I would definitely come back to enjoy more of what The Park Bar has to offer, along with some delicious food from Bucharest Grill. read more

One of my favorite places in Detroit to grab a drink! The staff is always friendly, and they know the liquor and beer offerings extremely well; I've literally never been disappointed by a recommendation from anyone working there. Drinks are reasonably-priced, and have always been made just as I've ordered them-- no matter how odd the request. The atmosphere is low-key, the bar is big and round, and you're surrounded by windows- perfect for people watching, especially on game days, or when there's an event at the Fillmore or Fox. The fact that they're attached to Bucharest Grill (Home of the best chicken shawarma wraps in town!) is also a plus! You can order your food at Bucharest and pop over to the Park Bar with it to enjoy a pint with your meal! The regular crowd this place attracts is generally a mix of pretty cool, friendly people. Lots of Detroit musicians, artists, writers, etc. In the 2 years I've been stopping in regularly, I've made quite a few great acquaintances, and even a friend or two! The owner, Jerry, is an especially nice guy. If you have a chance to sit and chat with him, I highly suggest you take it. read more

If there is one reason you should try this place out it's for their beer selection. After all, it's a BAR. For the Michigan or general microbrewery beer lover its a dream come true. They consistently have beers on tap from Atwater Brewing, Motor City Brew Works, Arbor Brewing Company and Detroit Beer Company, and even have some other basic beers on tap like Strohs or Labatts Blue for the average beer fan. The staff is friendly and pretty good at remembering faces if you've been there more than once. If you need another reason to check it out, the Bucharest Grill is attached to it and their sandwich/wraps w/ garlic sauce are phenomenal. read more

Welcome to Detroit. A cavernous space that probably used to be a thriving, money-producing car-related industry is now a vacuous pub with a decent beer selection. The interior, while nicely apportioned, seemed too large a space for such an intimate bar. The probably 16 foot ceilings stretched far above the meager Wednesday night crowd's heads, and seemed to match Detroit's overall theme: too much space, not enough people. Wandering into this bar on a mid-week business trip, I was pleased with prices and beer selection. The "open mic" thing they have going on is nice, and the space actually isn't bad for live music- just a little empty. Overall, it was a port in a storm, so no real complaints from me. Two observations though. (1) why is your cash register from the 80s? It's one of those semi-digital ones, like its stuck in a future envisioned by shows like the Jetsons where we have jet packs and corded phones. (2) why did a group of grown men come in and proceed to watch something on a laptop computer all night? Strange. read more

I never gave this place the light of day but I'm glad I finally did. So, one night my cousin and I walked in at around 10p, and Thomas, one of the bartenders, is way cool to serve your drinks. He hooked us up with free flaming shots (to help us get drunk; per our request), and about 8 cocktails and 6 additional shots later it was closing. Long story short (overlooking that guy who hit on us later that night, I kid you not!) this bar has a good knowlege on alcohol and serves it JUST RIGHT! As some other reviewers have mentioned, this place is made exponentially better by the presence of the Bucharest Grill in the same space. The prices are not really much to shake a stick at; $7 beers in this part of town aren't memorable. But the bar staff are witty and fun, the atmosphere is classy yet relaxed, and the shawarmas you don't even have to walk out a door to buy are fantastic.
