I went to Sprkbox Wednesday night after 10 and it was House music night. I went with a few other gals and we had a really good time. The bartender was super sweet and make some really potent drinks, they weren't expensive. There was a rotation of 3 DJs for the night and I partied from 10:30 til they closed around 2am. The dance floor is in the basement. There are a ton of little nooks and booths to sit in and take a break. I danced all night. I have t had that much fun dancing in a long time. And I danced for hours! Sweat glistening on my brow. My body moving and grooving to the funky soulful house beats. It felt so freeing to be in a space where everyone was having a good a time and doing their own thing. I had my hands in the air. It was sensual. It was sexy. It was a vibe. Now the bathroom situation is interesting. So, the bathroom situation is 2 urinals and the sink in the open space as well as an enclosed single stall. The only thing with that is it's all-gender, which is not the issue. But the layout of the restroom is you could potentially come out of the single stall and be in the same space with someone actively using the open urinals which is a bit awkward. Washing your hands and checking yourself in the mirror while some random person is pee'ing 2 feet away. As a woman I think about safety with a shared space like that so do what you will with that info. Outside of that I had a really fun time. Everyone was super nice and the cover was $10pp. If you decide you don't wanna dance they have an enclosed bar on the street level of the establishment as well as outdoor seating if that's you're thing. If I was in Detroit again, I'd go shake my booty there again! I had fun! read more

Stopped by for a Cubano coffee on Sunday & sat upstairs to listen to DJ. It was a beautiful day and loved watching all the tourists looking around Detroit. The Cubano coffee is fantastic. We love Spkrbox! Drinks music and people are all great. I enjoy the coffee drinks as well as the cocktails. A couple of my favs are the spiked cold brew (forget name) and the I75. It's cozy and you can go upstairs. Baristas/bartenders are cool and know what they're doing. Love the vibes snd energy. My girlfriend was giving me a tour of Detroit and she spotted an old friend outside of here so we spent a hot minute trying to find parking and made our way over. I went in to grab my girlfriend a coffee and I got coconut water as well as something to snack on. Gentlemen behind the counter was very informative on Detroit. There was outdoor seating which my girlfriend and I spent some time after her friend left to work. Was nice watching the traffic drive by and seeing the sun set on the city. Cool spot, not easy for people in wheelchairs, especially the bathroom. read more

I love this neighborhood coffee shop and bar all in one place. Very cool vibe. Relaxed feel. Retro, colorful decor. Intimate space. They have upstairs seating too but I didn't make it up there for photos. I enjoyed my window view. Fast and friendly service. Yummy coffee and lattes. I loved my Pure Evil Latte, with espresso, cherry, amoretto, and steamed milk. Delicious! They have beer, cocktails, and boozy coffees too. I plan on being a regular here. I went here Wednesday June 12, around 1:30p or so. Typical work day so there was no customers in there really. Probably 2 ppl came in while i was there... The staff was friendly/nice. I absolutely love unique place like this. They have coffee options in the morning and they have really unique cocktails in the evening/afternoon. The location is really cool because it's just tucked on the edge of the building. It's two stories very cozy. The decoration takes you back to a different time but with a modern twist. There was DJ at the time that we were there, but the set up looked really cool. The cocktail that I had was delicious it was a walnut Manhattan. The bartender was awesome. A little mid-century gem. I love any place that has coffee AND cocktails + they're open all the time (to satisfy which-ever vice you're craving). My favorite latte is the green fairy latte (pistachio and white chocolate- yum!), but they offer an array of yummy coffees and a full service bar. The upstairs seating is super fun and looks out over the corner of Griswold and Grand River St. They typically have a DJ during the weekends and it stays busy so be prepared for limited seating. My sister, her boyfriend, and I stopped here after seeing a musical at the Detroit Opera House. This place is located on a corner and has a cool, 70's/retro vibe to it. There are seats upstairs and a few seats near the bar on the main floor. They have a great list of coffee and cocktails. The bartender was so nice and was so much fun to talk to. I ordered the Espresso Martini that is made of vodka, St. George Nola, coffee reduction, milk, sugar, and is topped with three coffee beans. It tasted amazing and was so smooth! I could definitely just drink these all night. I also tried my sister's drink, which was called the Homerton. It's a take on the old fashioned. I absolutely love this place. The drinks are so so good and the staff is always friendly. I love how you walk in at a cute bar but can go upstairs to another cozy area that often has a DJ or go downstairs on the weekend nights to the club area. Every aspect is well designed and beautiful. Let me start by saying, this has been one of my most recommended places to visit for friends traveling near and far. Being a resident of the city and living a block away makes this a convenient spot to frequent. During the week I come here often and on the weekends if I have friends visiting the city it's always a go to spot with music and good vibes. However, tonight when arriving with friends we were met at the door at 1am telling us there was a cover charge. As a group, we made the decision that paying $10 each to get in the door with only 30/40 minutes before "last call" just didn't make sense. We asked if we just stayed upstairs (in leu of going downstairs to their club area) and had a drink they would waive cover, we were met with an immediate "NO". With the upstairs being occupied by less than 8 people, it was a very interesting answer, as you would think a place like this would chose to make money where they could and wouldn't turn people down, especially since there's plenty of other bars in the area not charging cover and happy for the business... not this place, a little smugness is what we were met with. After getting turned down to sit upstairs and have a couple late night drinks with friends, we asked if one of our guests could use the restroom, just a couple steps inside the door, and the gatekeeper steps in front of the door and responds with a quick "NOPE". After we begin to walk away, I mention the situation to a SPKRBOX team member who recognized us from being frequent patrons. while explaining the situation the door man comes storming up and says "that's right! This isn't a charity here". nonetheless, I was speechless. A charity? The amount of money my friends, coworkers, family, neighbors have spent in this establishment... it's a charity? It's really embarrassing that establishments in Detroit (this is one of very few) take not only business for granted, but the people that live as neighbors. After getting rejected here, we walked two blocks away to Queens Bar, gained entrance for free of charge and had a great time instead... it seems like they were appreciative of the business and happy to spend my money there moving forward. read more

We were in the area and decided to check this place out. This location used to be a coffee shop. It still is, but they also sell some magnificent cocktails. I opted for an espresso martini and was definitely not disappointed with my choice. I honestly can't remember what he chose but either way the martini was just what I needed.
