I can't say enough good things about Canje. This black owned restaurant's food, ambiance and service were all amazing! I stopped by for dinner while in Austin for work and I'm so glad I did. The space is beautiful with plenty of seating and space at the bar. There's beautiful art along the walls and the great music adds to the relaxed but lively vibe. I sat at the bar and had a lovely time with chatting with the bartender who was friendly and made sure I had everything I needed. The food was everything. I had the jerk beef patties, wild boar pepperpot, a side of coconut rice and some roti to go along with the meal. The wild boar pepperpot was definitely the highlight. It was tender, juicy and full of flavor. Mixing it with the coconut rice and roti set off the whole meal. I absolutely loved it. My overall experience was excellent! I thoroughly enjoyed the food and will definitely be back both for this meal and to try other items on the menu. Make sure you go asap!
Went here a year ago, so I'm not exactly sure of the names of everything that I got, but this place was unforgettable. Everything from the dishes to the drinks were very flavorful very tender, I can't wait to go back. The server was very kind and gave us recommendations for what to get. The ambience had a very low mood lighting and very cozy, perfect if you wanna set the mood. We went in the evening there weren't too many people there, and the service nonetheless was still amazing.
We got pretty much all the main dishes on the menu lol this place has been on my list for a long time, glad I finally got to try it. Place was very cute but music was just a bit loud inside. My favorite dishes here were the wild boar (nice sweet and savory flavor profile although leaned a bit on the sweeter end), cabbage, roti and coconut rice (must order!! They were so fragrant and the roti was so soft). The jerk chicken was decent, very moist and had a nice kick to it. Curry was just ok, wish it was a bit sweeter. I liked dipping the roti in the cabbage sauce more than the curry lol Wagyu skewers were also not memorable. Loved the plantains.
Mum and I came for a meal early in the night before a movie. We had a 615 reservation. Parking was so easy. And we were sat down quite shortly. The restaurant is really bright and fun and open. Our server was very nice and knowledgeable. She was also very willing to help change things out if he didnt like it. We thoroughly enjoyed the plantains, roti and fish. I did not expect the pepperpot to be sweet and more of a Chinese 5 spice flavour. I personally found it too sweet. We also ordered the flan de queso and rum raisin ice cream. We found the ice cream disappointing... the ice cream felt like a soft serve just topped with raisins and rum. My mum has always loved this flavour and she did not enjoy it too much. I personally love the tart lime and passionfruit flavour of the flan but the flan itself was so rich I felt I was eating a Philly cheese block but I could drink the syrup that was in the bowl
This place is incredible! It was such a lovely blend of flavors that were unique and enjoyable. We loved every dish! We started with the jerk beef patties which were not patties at all; they were empanadas served with perfectly spiced dipping sauce. The wild boar pepperpot is amazing and the casareep sauce is unlike anything I've had before. This dish is just meat so you should also order a side dish. The geera is so dang good - so many cool flavors including the apple chow butter. I licked the bowl clean. This dish had squash in it. The cabbage was layered with flavor and I enjoyed the light sweetness the raisins contributed. We ended up adding in the roti bread because both main dishes had sauce that warranted bread. The dessert was a peanut butter ice cream bar covered in dark chocolate. Our waiter described it as an elevated Snickers bar and it was the perfect description.
I was in town for a work event and this place came highly recommended--a group of us made a reservation and came for dinner. We came in to a beautifully decorated space with a colorful and vibrant aesthetic. They recommended we order to appetizers, two mains and two sides to share but each of us were feeling very different dishes. I ordered the pepper shrimp which had the right amount of heat and fish rundown which while okay on its own needed a rice or roti to eat with it. I was excited to try to the cabbage and was not sure about the raisins. The server told me it was just a topping and that they can put it in the side (which I asked for). The cabbage not only came out much later than the rest of the food, it had raisins mixed in and ended up being the worse dish. They took it off our bill but definitely felt misguided. Also, it got really loud in the restaurant and was hard to hear my colleagues at the table, so be mindful of that when making a reservation.
Chef Erik was PHENOMENAL. Omg this has been the best restaurant hands down Ive been to in Austin, Texas! The service from Jacob was PERFECT. I informed him of my onion allergy and he made sure I still have an amazing experience without missing out on dishes I wanted to try. Food: woah... everything is so unique and Caribbean/African coded as well as flavorful. The Roti I can eat in my sleep lol. The Wild Boar was tender and falling apart. The Suya was a off the menu item and an award winning dish. The cabbage was so flavorful. The desserts were 100/10. The watermelon and papaya salad I can eat EVERYDAY!! The ceviche is so unique. My Lord I loved everything here. Ambiance: the black art, the decor, music and vibes are top tier. 1000000/10 recommend.
Caribbean meats upper scale dining. We were visiting from California and we have delicious Caribbean food at home, but mainly fast food take out/no dining in service. So this fit the vibes and aesthetics for a nice sit down Caribbean meal for date night, celebration, or just because. However, two things: they had "valet" for a man to back our car into a spot which we could've done & then tip as you like. It felt very odd and unsure of how much to tip despite the quick "put it in reverse" idk if this is just a thing here in Austin. But he was pushing is QR code for Venmo the whole experience. 2nd, it was way too loud and dark to see or even have a convo. Loud music and all the conversations blurred each other out. Man I wanted to get out of there ! As for food, they did ask if we were okay with spicy but man all the food was spicy that it masked all the other flavors. Super cool to incorporate suya as we've been watching and hearing about it in food shows but I don't think it was used in a way to complement the food. It was just like bam I am suya ! My fave was the beef patties. The tapas are very small. Smaller than photo size prob so make sure to order enough or asks your server. The chicken was very hefty and was given bbq sauce to help mild the spice. Nice to have but it did not pair well with the Caribbean flavors. The price is decent compared to what we have but compared to Austin prices a bit higher. All and all looks cool, nice place to experience maybe once, but a pass for us next time.
Canje is yet another reminder that Austin's food scene just keeps getting better and better. We brought a group of eight colleagues for a business dinner, and it was one of the most memorable dining experiences of our trip. A helpful note: for parties of eight or more, the restaurant pre-selects the menu and serves one portion per person of each dish. At first I wasn't sure what to expect, but it ended up being the best part of the experience because we got to try so many incredible dishes. Honestly, everything was spectacular. A few standouts were the pink pineapple, plantain chips, ceviche, sweet potatoes, and the beef curry. The atmosphere is hip, vibrant, and beautifully designed. The service was warm, attentive, and made the whole evening feel special. One thing to know: it is loud. The music is part of the experience, and conversations may require you to lean in a bit. But the energy is fun, lively, and completely fits the vibe of the restaurant. I truly loved it here and would absolutely return the next time I'm in Austin.
The food, service and ambiance were amazing!! I celebrated my Birthday here and I'm so glad!! Everything we ate was so delicious. We made a reservation and the had a birthday card waiting at our table and all the staff signed it. That was so sweet. It's a family style service and we loved that because we wanted to taste and share everything . I will definitely be back, when I visit Austin and you should definitely go. You will not be disappointed
Got into Austin for the weekend and we were looking for a great place for a late dinner. We were probably an hour or so away from closing time but the staff still accommodated us and was really nice about it. We were seated at the bar and got a couple of drinks to start off. We ordered the smoked avocado escabeche and loved it - the plantain chips (I think) really worked well with the avocado. For mains we had the west Indian curry and jerk chicken. The curry was very flavorful and the chicken was spiced perfectly. I'd recommend, and would go back!
By far, this was my best experience ever! I don't tend to write lengthy reviews unless I am thoroughly impressed with the all-around service, food, and the feel of the location. Canje has taken away my breath. No, literally! I was so full of their delicious food that I felt like I couldn't take another bite. I was filled to the brim with GREATNESS! First, let's break down the staff -- absolutely amazing! The staff was well-versed on the menu items, making you, the customer, feel seen and making recommendations only after they asked if you had allergies of any kind. The appetizer I picked was the Beef Patties, which melted in my mouth before I could even begin to chew. Bite after bite, the buttery crust was the first layer, then next, the beef vanishing as it melted away in my mouth. The Main Attraction was the Fish Rundown, a perfect Jamaican cuisine that I chose to pair with a Guyanese Roti, which took my plate to another level! Have you ever had plantain dumplings? Cause I sure hadn't... This was pure perfection, especially with the kale and coconut flavors that rolled around my palate with every bite. Secondly - West Indian (Wagyu) Beef Curry -- MYYYYYYY GGGAAAWWWDDDDDDD! The flavors were so enticing, and I'm not even a chickpea person, but THIS right here! The way the beef and chickpeas fused together with all those flavors was everything. It all just melted in my mouth from the very first spoonful! Needless to say- if you are from Austin- you are missing out!!!! If you are from anywhere else , 100/10 an ABSOLUTE MUST.
I've been back a couple times to Canje. The menu changes regularly so if you find something you like make sure you order it. The food was good aside from the fried plantain. It tasted like it was dusted with orange flavored sugar. We were sat in the back area inside near the patio. We asked to be moved to the table in the corner. Our server, Javier B, seemed to be annoyed by that. For the rest of the night he came over silently to refill our water. We received better, warmer service from the folks who dropped off our food. He never asked us how the food was or if we wanted to order more drinks. He was much more friendly with the table next to us. It wasn't the type of service we got used to at Canje. Needless to say we will take a break from this establishment.

Excellent culinary experience. The variety of dishes, ingredients and flavors is really outstanding. With an homage to the Caribbean, the chefs do an amazing job of elevating basic dishes into wonderfully delicious meals. Our favorites were the curry, fritters, and the Jerk chicken. Service was excellent. read more
Amazing place with a very innovative menu that always delivers. We had most of the menu between the 6 of us. The service is very informative and helps guide the table. We did not find the restaurant loud, like we had read previously. The volume was fine when we were there. Highly recommend this place. read more
Reservation for 5;45 on a Thursday, probably didn't need but hey, better safe than sorry. Initially had a table but upon arrival requested the bar and got acquainted with Molly at the bar. I believe the other bartenders were Emily and Rachel...maybe Sarah...they all were amazing. They were friendly and gave excellent recommendations for the menu. They had a very good understanding of the menu and what the things tasted like. Perfect since this was my first time. They provided a bit of background for the restaurant and the chef. Ordered a glass of reisling and got the Akara, Guyanese Style Roti, and the Wild Boar pepperpot. There was a surprise dish from the kitchen Pink Pineapple which was amazing. Everything was delicious. The Pink Pinapple had this amazing passion fruit sauce that paired perfectly with the fresh fruit. Great starter! The Akara also were amazing, can't believe this is black eyed peas! Light and fluffy and the flavor, words can't express. I will say the sauce that came with had a kick. The Wild Boar was fall apart soft and the sauce was deep. I found it to be a tad salty, but the Roti helped to balance it out. The Roti came out HOT nice to know it's fresh?! The crispy outside and extra flaky inside made this a perfect item to dip into the sauce of the Wild Board. Also got the Tres Leches for dessert and well, let's just say it lived up to the other dishes. I would love to go back and try other things. The location was dimly lit with the music pumpin! Loved the vibe for sure. The inside and parking lot filled up before the time I left around 7:30 ish. I can only imagine what a Friday or Saturday night must feel like in here. read more

Came back to try Canje one more time. Much better experience. Server was friendly and attentive. Food was better! We ordered hush puppies with salt fish salad/scotch bonnet aioli - the hush puppies were delicious and the aioli and salt fish added umami and citrus notes. We got the roti side and two "suppas" - the fish rundown and the geera. The fish was a grouper that was a bit overdone, the coconut curry was good and had swirls of some citrus emulsion. It came with plantain dumplings - which tasted like gnocchi - and kale. I wish the curry was a little more flavorful and/or spicy and for a little more textural contrast with some crunch. The geera is a pork shoulder with roasted vegetables and a pineapple mousse butter. This was the star of the evening - well seasoned, juicy bites of pork, well roasted veggies and a really flavorful sauce. The roti was nice to sop up all of the curry and sauces. Both suppas were salty enough that without the roti, it would've been off-putting. I do wish the suppas came with either roti or rice, rather than having to order them as separate sides. That would make the dining experience more complete. Also, the music remains too loud for easy conversation. read more
An incredible overall dining experience. They were so accommodating when I had to push my reservation an hour back on a Friday night. All of the food was so flavorful, but the wild boar pepperpot was the show stopper. The meat was so tender, almost melting in my mouth. The flavors were sweet with a salty savory punch and the roti was the best pairing. Use your roti to sop up the extra sauce when you finish the meat! Big fan of the pineapple sauce that came with the jerk patties - had a bit of a kick to it! Our server was so welcoming and even comped our plantains because they came out a bit late towards the end of our meal. Could not recommend Canje enough. A must if you are visiting Austin! read more
Canje has been on my radar every time I visit Austin, and when I finally made it happen, I was stoked. I saved my appetite and went all in. I started with the Mango Palmer -- mango tea with whiskey. It started off light and refreshing, but got stronger as I kept sipping... so I didn't finish it because girl wanted to fully enjoy every bite of her food lol. For appetizers, we ordered the Jamaican bun and cheese, ceviche, akara, and beef patties. The beef patties were top tier. I won't say they were traditional -- usually the meat inside is super soft (which I'm not a fan of) -- but these had chunks of meat wrapped in a savory golden crust, and the pineapple pique it came with was perfection. The akara, though, was a miss for me. You really had to dunk the fritters in the pepper aioli to mask the fishiness. I normally love saltfish, so I'm not sure if it just wasn't cured right or what -- but it didn't hit. For mains, we had the wild boar pepper pot and the West Indian curry. MY OH MY -- the curry was incredible. So rich, and the meat was fall-apart tender. I've dreamed of trying pepper pot, and I'm glad my first experience was at Canje. It was very ginger/orange peel forward -- you could taste the time and effort put into building those flavors. And of course, I devoured a whole roti (and a half). Honestly, the roti was a star on its own -- flaky, hot, and the most beautiful golden color. The staff was super friendly and welcoming, and the vibe? Very Austin Caribbean read more
Canje is definitely worth the hype. Great food and such a fun, lively vibe. I will say this: their food is definitely on the spicier side. If you can't take a lot of spice, be very careful of what dishes you get. I would lean heavily on the staff for recs. My favorite thing was the roti! 10/10. I recommend everyone to get it. The beef patties were good as well. Really liked the pineapple sauce it came with. The jerk chicken was solid, super spicy though. The cabbage was good but it had too much going on for me. The strawberry caipirnha cocktail was not my fave. It tasted more like water & liquor than strawberry. I would get another drink next time or ask for more syrup. read more
Went to Canje on a date and the whole experience was amazing. The ambience is dark, attractive, and really sets the vibe. Presentation stood out too, the way the plates contrasted with the food made everything look as good as it tasted. I loved how the staff explained each dish as it came out, it made dinner feel more like an experience than just eating out. We had the beef wagyu suya which was so good, and the jerk chicken that was super moist and full of flavor. Not a single dry bite. After being away from Caribbean food for a while, it was refreshing to taste that kind of flavor again. I ordered the Mezcal Limelight and it was delicious. The pink pineapple with the watermelon and vinaigrette gave it this spicy tangy kick that worked perfectly with the fruit. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the cassareep ice cream. We expected more of a bowl of ice cream, but it came out with rice crispies on top, a middle chocolate glaze, and it looked more like rice. Not bad, just not what we thought it would be. Overall I'd give it a 4.5. Definitely planning to go back. read more
Trinity (Tri) took my reservation over the phone, super friendly! When we got there early to score some drinks we were seated right away, our waiter was Falon and she was so sweet and knowledgeable. The ambiance is casual and brings us back to the Caribbean, I really like that they expanded recently and bought the business next door, great move! Tri gave us a mini tour and we felt included We had a party of four and we ordered the ceviche, escabeche and the patties...delish as usual! Our main dish preference has always been the wild boar, we added the pork shoulder and the sweet potato. Everything was extremely delicious and the flavor combination is incomparable. We added the roti and the pineapple/cucumber chow....a must! We will definitely make the trip to come back as usual! read more
Check out the photos I've posted for more details on each dish, but this place rocks. Super creative and very fun, we will definitely be back. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and patient with all of our questions! When we arrived, we were worried about noise so they seated us in their "private dining area." It was still a bit loud, but the accommodation was an awesome gesture! There were some flavors of the night that truly surprised us... Aji Amarillo peppers, a rich curry broth, and the escabeche I won't soon forget. Really pleased overall! read more
We'd heard about Canje for a bit so were excited to finally check it out and made reservations for a Wednesday evening a few weeks ago. We got seated rather quick at a very small table in the middle of the dining room. The seating area feels a bit cramped and it was honestly so loud, we couldn't really hear each other talking. The server was very friendly and helpful and we ordered some dinner and drinks with his guidance. I got the strawberry caiprinha and it was okay but next time, I'd probably go with the Arnold Palmer. I can't remember the name of it but she got a green gin drink and really liked it. For food, we got the jerk and the pork shoulder. I know they're known for the jerk chicken but we both thought the pork was better and would likely get it again. To finish, we got the tres leches which was unlike any other tres leches I've had and was my favorite part of the meal. read more

Canje is easily one of the best restaurants I've ever been to! It has quickly become a go-to for special occasions, when friends are in town, or random date-nights. My boyfriend loves spicy food, so it was a no-brainer for him. I don't handle spicy food very well, but I'm still able to eat here and leave full! There is free parking on site in the lot and a valet option, as well as street parking nearby, so anyone bringing a car has a bunch of options. We found a spot immediately (although it was the last one available in the lot). I highly recommend making a reservation, because Canje is always busy. I have been able to walk in before and snag bar seating, but if you want to sit down at a regular table and have a party larger than 2 people, you'll most likely need a reservation! As for the food, to be honest, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. We always start with the ceviche and the pink pineapple. The sauce in both of these dishes is absolutely delicious and could very well just be its own meal Not pictured are the beef patties. These were SO good, and the only downside was it comes with just 2 and they're pretty small. We were a party of 4, so we had to each eat half of one. Definitely worth getting 2 orders of these so that everyone can enjoy one fully! Also not pictured is the Haitian Griot, which was so well-cooked it just melted into our mouths. Then, we got the wild boar pepperpot with a side of roti. Highly recommend the roti so that you can soak up all the sauce!! Incredibly flavorful and so worth it. To round out the mains, the jerk chicken is always a show-stopped. As someone who doesn't handle spice well, I can only have a few bites of the interior meat (no skin). The chicken is marinated perfectly for 2 days, making it extremely flavorful. In terms of spice, it's a solid 7 or 8 out of 10. Our server brought us complementary gelato when she saw us sweating from the jerk chicken spice, which honestly felt so good after the chicken. We rounded out the meal with Cassareep Ice Cream for dessert. This dessert is such a weird mix of flavors that works so well. I've never had anything else like it! Highly recommend Canje for locals and visitors alike! read more
I come here at least twice a month , fast and friendly service, the ambience is cute inside!, seating is a little tight, but they play Caribbean music that fits the aesthetic. The food is fresh and delicious!! and I love how they update the menu every other month. I try just about everything on this menu and I am pleased with it. I host my birthday dinner here in november everything came out great I introduced new people to the restaurant and they loved it. I will definitely continue to be a regular! read more
I can't believe it's taken me this long to review Canje! I've been a few times now, and the food and service are consistently excellent. Being from South Florida I'm used to bold Caribbean flavors, and there aren't many spots in Austin that deliver on that but Canje absolutely does. Located on the east side, they offer parking which is always a plus in this area. The interior is modern with vibrant tropical touches. Just a heads up it can get loud inside so if you're looking for a quiet intimate dinner this might not be the best fit. Now, the foodyou can't go wrong with the jerk chicken. It's flavorful, spicy, and hearty enough to share. On a recent visit, I decided to branch out and try the wild boar, and it did not disappoint. It was rich, satisfying, and paired perfectly with the roti and cod fritters we ordered. I washed it all down with a frozen hurricane cocktail, which tied everything together nicely. It's easy to see why this place has earned a James Beard nomination. I'm already looking forward to my next visit! read more

When I was looking for a new restaurant to try, a lot on my list had a boring menu with food I could make at home. I decided to try Canje because of the unique menu and good reviews. I was so happy I did! The service staff were very friendly and welcoming which is exactly what you want when trying a new place on a cold Austin night. The food was incredible. Peanuts in the ceviche were surprising and so good and the jerk chicken was spicy but tasty too. My favorite was the roti bread - absolutely delicious. Great place!! read more
The best place I have been to in Austin. Pricey but special. Unique flavors to me that expanded my palette as a foodie and everything was delicious. Great attentive service. Very nice ambiance. I immediately started thinking about the next special occasion for which I could return to this restaurant. Try the wagyu beef skewers and the, ceviche, jerk chicken (if you like spicy), and the boar pepper pot. The coconut rice was a bomb accompaniment. read more
Canje definitely lives up to the hype. The ambience is great and the food is also a 10/10 we got the beef patties which were filled with tender, juicy beef filling, and the wrapper is closer to an empanada than a traditional beef pattie. I love spicy food, but I do have to say the jerk chicken has a good amount of spice so if you can't handle a 7/10 spice level, I would skip that. We also tried the ceviche which has great flavor but barely any fish. The coco buns were good but nothing crazy read more

Canje almost makes me regret some of the five-star reviews I've handed out in the past, simply because there needs to be an even higher category of excellence. Canje gets six stars out of five. I will be dreaming of the ceviche until the day I die or take my next flight to Austin (whichever comes first). My sister and I went and I'm not sure we had much of a conversation because we were too busy making "oh my god this food" noises back and forth. Get everything, starting with the ceviche and roti. read more

What a trip! No, literally. Felt like I was transported to the islands. Beware of the spice! I feel like many dishes have varying levels of spice. *PLEASE* ask your server if you don't want medium or even super spicy. Be explicit! (They told me the jerk chicken was super spicy and the beef skewers). We ordered the pink pineapple (spicy bites), ceviche (perfect), pork with bok choy (spicy bites), and fish (very spicy). Regardless, we are still glad we came and tried Canje. We likely won't be back but we are glad we tried it. We did read many reviews here and on Google before dining. Really, only people mentioned that the jerk chicken was spicy. But I think more dishes have some heat. (It does disappear, but still worth noting). Many reviews mentioned how "amazing" the pink pineapple was. This did have some unexpected heat. The ceviche was great and I would definitely order again. We ended the night with something not from the dessert menu - we recommend you try it as well. Order the sweet plantains side as your dessert. Delightful. Other things to note: there is a parking lot with a valet, the music IS LOUD, expect to shout. read more
Loved Canje. Great vibes and very friendly staff. Gave good advice on the menu. We had a group of 4 and ordered about 6 things and it was more than enough. My favorites were the roti (so yummy could have eaten 5 by myself), ceviche (taro chips are a game changer), West Indian curry, and jerk chicken (is spicy) We also ordered the wild boar and plantain chips, which I probably wouldn't get again but still good! They also give you post cards that they send out at the end of dinner. I sent one back home to my parents, who called me a week later saying how much they loved the card. So that's a cute thing!! Overall recommend!! read more
I just visited this restaurant for the first time after hearing so much about it since last year when we moved to Austin. My colleagues made a reservation for us after a work event, and it was the perfect ending to the night. Even at 9 pm on a weeknight, the restaurant was busy! Our server was very sweet and explained what each of us could eat depending on different dietary restrictions. I tried the Limelight cocktail: Tequila, Mezcal, Jalapeño, Cilantro, Pineapple, Lime and loved it! Definitely will order again! I loved the Coco Buns: Toasted Coconut, Thyme Butter, Ceviche: Sour Orange, Peanuts, Sweet Peppers, Taro Chips, Pepper Shrimp, and West Indian Curry (made vegetarian). It was all delicious! The roti dipped in the curry was great too. My friends loved the spicy jerk chicken. I love a lot of the items I saw on the menu like the fried plantains, salted fish fritter, grilled cabbage, etc. and can't wait to go back! read more
My friend RAVES about Canje so we decided to finally make a reservation and give it a try. I lived in trinidad and tobago for a year so I had expectations for the food! The first thing I want to point out is the service. Every single server was so so friendly, knowledgeable, and happy to help. I had a lot of fun talking to our waitress. I came with 3 other friends and we decided to do family style to try more items on the menu. We got 2 appetizers and they were both delicious. I'm not a fan of ceviche normally since I don't like raw seafood but man oh man. This was delicious!! The flavors all together topped with peanuts was a special touch. The beef suya is a must get. The meet is tender and it is seasoned to perfection, drooling as I write this. We got 2 curries, pepperpot, sweet potato dish, and 2 rotis to share and it was judt the right amount. Everything was so flavorful & delicious. I would order all these dishes again. But was it authentic? I'm not sure....but was it good? YES. One suggestion I have would be to lower down the music because it was very loud, it was hard to hear each other and it was hard for the servers to hear us. Other than that, Canje, I'll be back!! read more

Carribean Guyanese. Great cuisine, from appetizers to entrees we tried everything, served family style and shareable. The rum raisin ice cream and sherbet were so refreshing too.. the vibe was so chill and the servers accommodating our split party of 12 an hour before closing. Service was excellent. We had oxtails, coconut rice, jerk chicken, jerk beef patties, curry, roti, plantains....all deliciousness read more
3.5 Stars Small, expensive, share plate place. I came here on a Sunday night with a group of friends. This was my first time experiencing high-end Caribbean/African cuisine! The dishes all offered unique flavors. Recommendations: -Plantain Chips and Dip ($12): Delicious! The Haitian Callaloo dip is incredibly special; I've never had anything like it. -Ceviche ($18): Very fresh, with a unique combination of ingredients. -Wild Boar Pepperpot ($29): So tender and flavorful! The sauce is sweet and sticky. -Guyanese Style Roti ($6): A great accompaniment to the meats. You can't go wrong with flaky, buttery bread. Neutral: -Escovitch Fish ($28): This was good, but definitely needed the sauce it was served with. Do Not Recommend: -Jerk Chicken ($37): A bit dry, and too salty and spicy. The Tomato Choka served with it was lovely, though. The interior is cute, and the staff is polite and knowledgeable. read more

I want to give this place a 5/5 stars so bad, but unfortunately the service and ambiance were subpar when I came in for dinner Sunday night. I'll start with the food, which was the highlight. I got to try seven dishes: the coco buns, roti, jerk chicken, wild boar pepperpot, oxtail, tres leches, and passion fruit flan. Everything ranged from good to great. My favorites were the coco buns and wild boar pepperpot. The buns were soft and fluffy and the thyme butter was delicious. The pepperpot meat was so tender. The desserts were also fabulous, and I had a hard time choosing a favorite. Our chicken was slightly dry so we will probably skip that next time. The inside decor was really nice, but the ambiance is ruined by how loud the music is. Several employees stopped by our table, and we had a hard time hearing most of them. I can overlook the noise level, but I can't overlook the service. Our waitress seemed like she wanted to be anywhere else but the restaurant. She had a really off-putting vibe and didn't seem to want to answer our basic questions about the menu. Everyone at my table was a current or former server, so we understand off days. However, her attitude actively brought down our excitement over the food, and this is a pricey enough restaurant that I expect at least average service. I plan to come back another time and hopefully I'll have a better experience with the service. read more

What an amazing experience! Not sure I've ever craved Caribbean food before but damn if I don't now! Read about this place in the NYT Top 50 last year and braved the wait times and line. It was spectacularly worth it! Jerk chicken sounds so boring...but here it was amazing. Juicy, flavorful...and a nice kick of heat! The drinks are inventive and almost everything on the menu is bursting with flavor. The watermelon salad in the pic was phenomenal. Fresh, complex, interesting. The table fought over the last couple of bites. Always a good sign! Been twice now and it's a must anytime I visit Austin. read more
