4.5 to be exact, but I'd say as long as you order a variety of stuff, you'll have a great time.
Inside and out, this place has a beautiful, elegant space. Love the space in the ceiling between the bar and dining room floor that's an open light slit with hanging plants. Ive been here while it was daylight and night time, and both have their unique charm.
The Jerk Szn drink with mezcal, watermelon and jerk seasoning was simple but quite effective in conveying a night by a campfire on the beach with a slice of cold watermelon. If you like sweet and smokey, this is the drink for you.
Whether virgin or boozy, the Pina coladas are fantastic here. So well balanced, with the non alcoholic version having more of a pink lemonade vibe while the boozy one had more of a lime juice foundation with the booze being fairly smooth.
The avocado escobeche took me by surprise! A beautiful showcase of all the ingredients, while the broth was the real showcase. I didnt think I could be so excited about pepitas but here we are!
The pineapple and melon dish is exotic but familiar enough to where I can still place what everything is. This is tangy yet milky in texture, without going overboard. It feels refreshing but also substantial.
The grilled prawns were my least favorite, but that doesn't mean it's not good. The sauce took time to grow on me, but it's more of a darkened lime profile than a mole (which was what I was expecting). I like how they leave the heads on the prawns. They still contain lots of seafood juice goodness! But for what youre getting, this is the one item I would skip.
The sweet potato could have used a little more fixings or sauce for my taste, but its still a savory delight! Granted, texture wise, its unmistakable as a sweet potato, but its taste profile does resemble meat in some ways!
The jerk chicken does not f*ck around! This dish is quite spicy with its dry rub. The spice factor goes up even more when you include the scotch bonnet sauce as well. Its not as if you're eating whole habaneros or ghost peppers, but the spice level of the chicken is still quite intense. My friend had to down a handful of tums, baking soda water, and a zantac just to feel normal afterwards. Focusing on the texture, its not super moist, but it certainly isn't dry. Of course the dark meat is juicier than the white meat. I would have liked the wing be removed from the breast piece, but I get its much easier to keep it intact when preparing.
The rice krisp WAS greatin concept, but didnt strike my fancy. Not as sweet as I wanted. Not as nutty as it could have been. It's definitely a much lighter dessert, which I can appreciate, but doesn't hit the mark for me. Maybe it if we're more spiced or had some stronger elements?!? read more
