Upon recommendation of a client to visit thisr restaurant, my wife and I did so on Sunday, November 22 at 7 pm. The restaurant was busy, but not packed.
We were greeted and seated immediately in the section off the main dining area. After a 5 minute wait, our server Jonathan said he would be with us momentarily.
Another 5 minutes passed and he began waiting on us. (Note - it wasn't a matter of him being inattentive, he was just busy.) He ran down the intro info and we ordered 2 iced teas. He brought those within a few minutes and we reviewed to menu to decide what to order. A few minutes later he took our order. My wife had a pizza and I ordered the Bolognese along with a Caesar salad for a starter. I asked if there was any type of garlic bread and Jonathan replied you all have a fried bread and he would see about seasoning it with garlic.
After a lengthy wait of about 15 minutes, my salad was delivered by a different server. Two minutes into my salad, my entree was delivered. So I had the choice of forgoing to salad to eat the entree while it was hot or enjoy my salad while the food cooled down. Since I would be paying for the salad, I couldn't forgo it. After I finished the salad I started eating the Bolognese and as you can expect, it was lukewarm at best. And my wife's pizza hasn't made it to the table yet. A few minutes later her pizza was brought to the table.
We did not see him again even though our tea glasses were empty. We finally flagged down a busboy and requested that our teas be refilled, which he did.
Several minutes later Jonathan checked on us and gave us a to go box for the leftover pizza. I reminded him I never received the fried bread. He checked his notes, said "Your right" and apologized. He left the check for us to pay. We did so and left and the hostess thanked us as we walked out.
Two things worth noting are that a party of six next to us were seated after us, all ordered pizza and they were served before we even had the salad. And we overhead the table behind us comment that the server forgot their salad.
The portion size of the Bolognese was rather small. It was on a very large indented plate, so while it looks like a hearty serving as the server sets down this large plate, it is quite small for the price. The food tasted very good, both my Bolognese and my wife's Frankie pizza. There was no problem with that.
The area that we were in was quite noisy, I suppose due to the bare concrete. A party of 10 were sat next to us and while they are having a good time, it was impossible to carry on a conversation.
In a nutshell, there was quite a wait to be acknowledged at the table, a wait to get beverages, a delay getting the salad, a delay getting the pizza and my entree being brought out before I had a chance to eat 3 bites of salad. And then eating not a hot but a warm, small portion entree. The fried bread was forgotten about by our server and our teas sat basically empty until we asked another employee for refills.
Our check came to $36.81. I can't say for that amount that I was satiated or that it was a good value, or even a fair value. I don't know if this particular Sunday was an anomaly or if patrons should be advised there will be a wait for service. Perhaps the restaurant was short staffed? While Jonathan was friendly and apologetic, this dining experience disappointed us. read more
