We barely made it due to waiting 30 minutes to be checked in due to being told there were no clean rooms available. When the room finally was 'available', we went to the room and there were already people occupying it! We had to go back and they changed our room again. And instead of apologizing, the girls just kept saying 'we're so busy'. The room was disgusting. It was dark, stuffy, and smelled like old stale cigarettes. The bathroom toilet would not flush so we had to plunge the toilet in our room before we could even use it! The bathroom itself was disgusting. It was very tiny with a dim light, hair was all over the sink, counter, and tub. There was mold in the corner of the tub. The beds were somewhat comfortable although sheets and comforter were questionable as far as cleanliness. 7:30am. 3 kids and 4 adults standing RIGHT OUTSIDE our window, chatting and screaming and laughing and generally waking us up! To top it off, when I called and spoke with the 'supervisor', she basically told me we should've expected a wait to check in, it's not their fault the toilet was clogged. Nor was it their fault it was disgusting and customer service there is lacking. Ridiculous. I will be complaining and telling people about this everywhere I can and every chance I get! Will never go back there again!

We tried to get clean towels the second day but could not get housekeeping's attention. We stayed two nights, picking this hotel because we could walk to The Cuthbert and it had a pool. But when we arrived we were told there was an overchlorination issue, and someone would come around 9am to address it. Our room was next to the pool, so we watched and checked, and waited. But no one came. And when we asked again they said that the pump was broken. And later some other man that works there made the comment that "it always happens on our busiest weekends". We could hear the pump humming and see the water circulating in the pool. I assume that we were not allowed to use the pool because of a distrust of the hippie crowd, most of the people staying there were going to String Cheese Incident. I don't really know, maybe there was some other reason, but we didn't feel like they were honest. The other thing to note is that this hotel comes with "continental breakfast" which varied from day to day. One day was prepackaged Danish, yogurt, and bananas. Another day was bagels and cereal. There was hot coffee with real half and half both days. The AC was cold, but noisy, and kept us comfortable. Honestly, the pool was a big issue, and would have earned this budget hotel at least one more star. We travel to Eugene often for shows, and are more likely to stay at Guesthouse Inn and Suites (in Springfield) next time. We stayed there the weekend before and were 100% satisfied.

Unfortunately, the bathrooms and the fixtures are still waiting for an upgrade, and the new bedding is synthetic and thus hot and sweaty in the summer. The air conditioner worked well in our room (109), but was loud -- and we needed to run it all night. The vinyl floor in the bathroom was dirty and stained, there was mould and dirt in the corners, and rust in the tub. The old tile had been painted over, but the paint was flaking off. The internet was good when it worked. On our final morning, we reported to Britney at the front desk that the hotel Internet was not working at all, even though we had a good WiFi signal. She said that she would try to fix it by restarting their router. An hour later, nothing had changed, and I went to see if things worked any better in the office -- they did not. It turned out that Britney had actually done nothing, because "the internet works fine on my phone". I had to explain to her that her phone had its own internet connection over the cellular network, and wasn't using the hotel's connection, which I demonstrated was not working in front of her. I don't know if she took any action after that; we had to leave before we got Internet.

They had a really nice crispness and freshness to them and just felt different from the normal linens that are usually used. The room also had a nice sitting area. The check in staff was very friendly and nice. The only problem with our room #121 is that it is right across from the housekeeping unit and we were woken up early by the sounds of staff organizing their carts. The breakfast buffet was very good. It was the standard food that is on most breakfast buffets but it was well prepared and tasty.

Best part was, I took the elevator at one point and found something that looked like a cigarette butt on the floor in the elevator. Looked closely and it was part of a joint! Weed! Came out and let the man at the front desk know, and it didn't seem to phase him. I guess it's normal even thought they don't allow smoking at the place.

Comfortable king bed. Quality engineered hardwood floors, no plastic here. Wood ceilings and pine open closet neatly organized with plush white towels. Thoughtfully appointed room in modern colors that complimented the wood and white linens. All of it, ample space, color coordination (even the old style phone matched the fridge and microwave). But the bathroom was amazing. Beautiful tile work, walls and floor. The plumbing fixtures look like "steam pump" style in brass. Nothing was missed here. Everything matches. Clearly the owner takes great pride in this motel and has gone above and beyond to make their guest's stay remarkable and memorable. Needless to say, we are impressed and so pleased to find this gem. Sadly, I think he is the husband of the gal who manages the place and he is part of the care taking crew. So how does one man take a 4-5 star potential experience down to a 2-star stay? First impressions ... Here's what happened - and I am not going to go into all the detail here but give you enough to know to stay away from the troll! First - we drove from Northern California to get here - and showed up a little (1 hr.) early before check in. We had been "warned" to not attempt to check in early ... BUT we had no where to go and we had to get out of that car and get our groceries into a fridge. So we (and when I say we, it was myself, my sister, and my mother - all went to the office to plead with them to allow us to at the very least hang around and "maybe" get our food in a fridge. I, personally felt that was an easy request which should/could have been accommodated without any difficulty. BOY, was I wrong!! After knocking on the door to the office several times, he (the guy) almost refused to open it, and when he did it was a mere crack to barely show his face. Here's how it went down. Him: Yes? (note - no greeting - no hello) Us: ... silent because we had to scoop our jaw up off the ground to respond ... Him: YES!? Us: ... Oh, sorry, is this the place to check in? Him: YES!? What do you want? Us: ... again silent - we were in shock! Him: (repeating himself) What do you want? Us: ... oh well we know we aren't supposed to request to check in early (admission of true facts!) but is there any way we can just get the paperwork and charges out of the way? We just drove a long way and want to get this taken care of. Him: There is no early check in. Us: Yes, we understand that - but we have perishable items and we are happy to "take a hike" and get out of your hair for a while - if we can at least get our items into our fridge. That's enough ... I think you get the picture. RUDE - so rude that the word rude is actually not sufficient for his behavior. I was completely flabbergasted. Here's the bottom line - he doesn't do check in; he clearly doesn't have much contact with guests - for a reason. Keep him out of the office and never let him open the door. Or at the very least - teach him how to greet guests and kindly inform them that the office person will be back shortly. There was absolutely no reason he had to be so RUDE! We were paying customers - and last time I checked - they are NOT the cheapest location along the McKenzie River. This first impression set the tone for the entire weekend - SADLY - because we were there for a family member's wedding celebration. PROS: - Cabins - Nicely appointed cabins with all the amenities - the things we brought because we thought we'd need them - we didn't. - Location - Beautiful grounds well manicured/maintained and to be on that river was exceptional. - Family - I was there for a family event which took place over the course of 3-days and it is because of them - that I didn't leave. CONS: - The TROLL who should never have contact with humans - EVER! - Early check in policy - stinks for out of town travelers. Time your arrival accordingly or you might meet the TROLL! - Price - not sure you get what you pay for at this place considering my first impression. - Wi-Fi - not free. I can't see myself ever returning to this place - I would rather stay up or down the road and hope for a better experience.

The layout was a little weird as one of the couples had to tromp through another couple's bedroom to get to the kitchen, but it worked out. We went fishing (caught a ton of trout after seeing a good fishing spot rafting), rafting, beer tasting in Eugene (twice, didn't make it to Bend), and ate outside on the porch every night. Amy was so pleasant sounding on the phone I wanted to check it out. Near downtown, on Main St, this renovated motel looked great: fresh looking paint, new doors, tasteful colors, cared for parking lot and CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN. Amy offered to show me a room: new floors, good lighting, new looking windows, standard motel furniture in good condition, super clean towels, bed clean and tidy, nice AC unit, spotless bathroom with new looking fixtures, good refrigerator, microwave, desk and comfy chair. No frills, but nothing missing and all fresh, unworn, and well cared for. With very polite, helpful service from Amy (she's a keeper!). And...$85! Woo hoo! Great value.
