I asked the bartender if I could order another shot for him instead. The response was, "Yeah, you order a shot and then pay for it, that's how it works" (after overhearing me explain to my friend 'it's your birthday, we can always ask for a different shot and i'll buy it!) in a sarcastic condescending tone (after me, being polite in asking for another shot) as if we were trying to get something for free or wasn't going to pay. I was ordering another shot to PAY, it was a simple request. The interaction felt unnecessarily dismissive and put a weird tone on what was supposed to be a fun birthday moment.

We came on a cold night, and it was chilly inside, so I'd suggest to dress warmly in the winter. Cash and card are accepted at the bar, and there is an ATM machine if needed. The restrooms are what you'd expect for a dive bar, so keep that in mind! Overall a cool place to see local shows and smaller travel acts.

Behind it is a tidy, plain barroom with nautical stuff on the walls and low lighting, Tammy Wynette on the jukebox, a single row of barflies stoking the low murmur of morning-beer conversation, and possibly one of the nicest ladies you'll ever meet, Cathy Lyons, behind the bar. Lyons refuses my tip ("The girls that work for us take them, but we don't. We figure things are expensive enough."). She and her husband bought this place 22 years ago, and started the slow process of repeatedly kicking out the riff raff. The years of diligent 86ing have paid off in an unassuming, comfortable room where locals can come drink cheaply and safely. 22 years of work for one clean little barroom. I am humbled by what it can take to get the smallest things right, and am reminded how I need to stop trying to stake out Infinite Jests in my head all the time and just try to get this paragraph right, right now, for you.
