I love the bar car...the bar flys, the bar babes, the bar keeps...yatta yatta yatta The guys that run the place are just wonderful...friendly and caring. Clientele is great and you can strike up a convo with just about anyone at anytime. Love their taps They have a great selection of the Buffalo trace Bourbons ( Blantons, Wellers, Eagle rare, Elmer T Lee etc) Food is pretty decent too...try the Fonzie. read more

The Bar Car - Weller 12 and a great pint. Look at that shot pour....Bar Car you guys are the best!!! - Bars Near Me - Denver, Colorado

Came here recently from a recommendation from someone - maybe I need to trust them less ;) We wanted a calm ambience. I didn't know it was going to be a dive bar before arriving. The gist is I guess it's supposed to feel like an old bar car on a train - I didn't remotely get that vibe except maybe the tin ceiling? I was also not warned by the rec that we should stick more to beers or wine here, not cocktails even though they have a pretty decent cocktail menu. I got two grapefruit mimosas which were pretty good and what I expected. My husband first had the paper plane which he said was fine, but then he ordered the bar's Manhattan (meaning they have one they make on their cocktail menu) and it tasted like bourbon and water - like, really not good. He told the bartender and she remade it, but it was still not good. The bartender struck us as....something off? Drunk? Completely out of it? I love a good bartender (friendly, chatty, funny, whatever) and she just seemed in a daze which I think kind of soured our visit. The rest of the people at the bar were fine, nothing too exciting happened. A guy did come in and ask for a glass of water because a trash can outside was on fire, so that was a new one. Upside is they do have some parking on the side of the building so it was nice not to have to park on the street. But even as a dive bar goes, wasn't quite our speed. read more

Kicking myself for not having checked out The Bar Car sooner - what a gem! I always noticed people mingling outside but never gave it a try until recently. Was out with a group of 7 and looking for a place to go after midnight and The Bar Car was where we landed. I loved everything. The bartender was friendly and made great drinks. The prices were very reasonable. The decor was unique and fun. Ample seating options - especially impressive given it's not a huge space - our crew ended up holding court on the back couches. They gave large water glasses to stay hydrated. Not to mention an area to hang outside! I will absolutely be coming back. Really thrilled to have finally checked this spot out. read more

On top of being the rudest bartenders in the city, I recently had THE worst old fashioned I've ever had in my life. I wanted to love this place because it's cute but the staff ruined that and now I won't be back. read more

Got drugged here and quickly learned that many people in the area had the exact same experience!! I am surprised there are no other reviews about this. Thought it was the guy next to us in the empty bar but after hearing this has happened to multiple friends i am skeptical about the bartenders. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

Bartenders were some of the rudest I've ever experienced, got mad when I asked what bottles of beer they had, said he "didn't feel like listing them" and got mad at me for not deep diving the menu. Then was rushed to finish and get out. Average beer. Shit staff. Pete's pub is great! read more

I ventured away from my typical stomping grounds to meet a friend for a drink. This definitely felt like a local bar where people in the close by neighborhoods go for a drink. The demographic was varied, but I had the impression that many people at the bar were regulars. the atmosphere kind of felt like there was nothing too special but I had a grand time sitting at the bar. During happy hour my vodka soda was only five dollars which I thought was a fantastic deal. I guess that is the reward when you venture outside of trendy neighborhoods. They also have a food menu and we ordered the barbecue chicken wings which were pretty good. There is ample parking in the parking lot. read more

I've had the food before, but it was only the tacos and they weren't the best. The service is great on an easy night like a Monday, but the bartender admitted that a Thursday or Friday would be better. Two beers and two shots cost $22. Definitely a local spot. I was gifted with a coozie and a sticker by Brandi which made my experience extra special. read more

My boyfriend took me to an event in Boulder, CO and told me I had to try the fresh pork rinds at this bar. The place was empty but it's because it was before noon. We were on our way to the Rookies baseball game and made a pit stop here. The bartender was super nice. We ordered soda and pork rinds. Tip: not on the menu. Just ask. I heard the server heading our direction by the popping sound of the pork rinds. They add some type of seasoning on top and a slice of lime on the side. Super delicious. I'm salivating just thinking about them. The place is super cool. Has that old Hollywood style. Very clean. This will be a must stop by place whenever we're in Denver. Go check it out! read more

I love this place for multiple reasons. First of all, all the bartenders here are all very friendly. At my most recent visit, I knew I wanted something sweet but wasn't sure what. The bartender whipped up a delicious cocktail for me that wasn't on the menu. Which brings me to my next point: I've loved every drink that I've had here. I've had something different each time I've gone, and I've never been disappointed. Third: this is where I met my boyfriend! It was the perfect, casual environment for our first date, and now we love to come back for a drink or two every now and then. This place will always hold a special place in my heart, and it will be somewhere I will always love returning to! read more

Ordered takeout nachos because I have wanted to check it out and was headed somewhere close by. The atmosphere seems really cool - classy, elegant and old school vibe. Server was friendly despite me just having a quick to go order. Food came out pretty quickly and was packaged well. As for the taste, I added chicken to the nachos and I liked everything about the nachos **except** the meat. It's weird because BBQ is supposed to be their specialty. I think I need to come back and try a sit down order to see if I feel differently. Regardless, seems like a fun place to have a couple drinks. I hope to be back. read more

Lexi and I decided to come here because we heard so many good things about this place! As soon as we came in we were immediately struck by how cool the place looks! The staff was very friendly and helpful! The downside was the mixed drinks were not up to par in our opinion.. We ordered a margarita and the juice tasted stale. Their saving grace was the loaded fries which were delicious! I recommend if you love good bar food and great staff! Dan & Lexi read more

Recommend just driving past, unfriendly staff, i assume they keep so to dark because of how filthy the bar was.

This place was my GO TO up until I moved many cities away. The Bar Car is place for the renegade untouchable bad ass mysterious MF'S. I feel like home every time I visit (on the rare occasions I go now) since my move. The bartenders remember my name, they remember my shot, and they remember my life events. You want another family outside from home and work; come here. You want to decompress from a bad day and make new buds; come here. You want to have a bartender to tell you that maybe (just maybe) you f*cked up that last relationship attempt and they still love you; come here. Bar Car is the home for making different types of family. Brutally honest, but loving meaningful timeless memories. Some may refer to this as a "hole in the wall bar", to me it's a amethyst buried deep in a peculiar bizarre stone wall... next to a delicious Indian food joint. I have been to NUMEROUS dive bars since leaving Denver and no bar will EVER amount to the experiences I have had here. Regulars are warming and welcome, owners, workers, and management are great. ALSO TURKEY LEGS DURING SEASON - DELICIOUS! read more

My favorite bar in Denver. Cool dive with copper ceilings and their Halloween decorations are awesome. Digital jukebox. Food is good, too, just don't expect the greatest table service when they are packed. Which is often. Amazing Chicago dog and great rotating draft options. Bar staff is amazing. And the fact I can walk here is a huge bonus. read more

The server at this spot was really great she had awesome suggestions and was really attentive. She was even working the bar and made sure we were good and kept checking on us. We had never eaten here before so it was nice that she let us know about the secret menu instead of upcharging us. The food was okay lol but not bad and they are open late. This place literally has the best cheeseburger and happy hour in the metro area- and service is always awesome. Very inviting neighborhood bar. Lots of stools along the bar, which runs nearly the length of of the room, some two -tops on the opposite wall, and a larger seating circle at the back, so an intimate feeling to the space, dark but not grungy. Good spot for conversation and low-key partying. Everyone in the space was pretty sloshed during our visit. Bartenders are amiable and efficient, I ordered a sidecar and the bartender wasn't familiar with it but happily made it when I told him the ingredients. Good range of snacks and sandwiches on the menu, our nachos were delicious. read more

Definitely has dive bar feels. I loved the theme with the chandeliers and the leg lamp. Definitely 20s vibe with a cozy lit atmosphere. Not many places to sit, but I think that's the point. This use to be my neighborhood bar and I use to hit this baby up multiple times a week. When I moved away from Denver, I was sad to leave my Bar Car family behind. Every time I visit Denver I pop on by for some drinks with the hopes of seeing some familiar faces. Every time I visit I remember why this place is so special to me. Awesome service, strong drinks, one of the best jukeboxes in town and I always bump into some old friends and we get into trouble. It is because this place is so special that I use a line where I live now to describe my efforts to find my bar home. "I wish I could find my Bar Car." I love this place forever. read more

Small and intimate space. Definitely a trendy dive bar feel. Definitely a neighborhood bar vibe. They have a jukebox which was cool. The night I went the crowd was a little older, probably reflective of the neighborhood (mid 30's and up). The service was very quick. Lots of beer selections and a couple of cocktails as well. The food menu was also quite expansive. I had the kitchen sink sandwich which was alright. I must say the french fries were incredible! Perfectly crisp on the outside. Great place to grab a drink overall. read more

Great prices for drinks, cozy atmosphere and cool decor, and more than one vegetarian item on the menu which is a win when it comes to bar food. Veggie burger and the black bean potato tacos hit the spot, and my partner loves the Cubano and BBQ here. Local guy brought me here, it's his neighborhood haunt and would be mine too if I lived here. He described it as a "cool dive bar" and he's on the money! Cora, the bartender, made a badass margarita ($8). The tacos at $3/ea. are awesome (pastor and chicken with spicy pineapple salsa=happiness). You can get an order of fries and split it 2 ways (opted for Thai and forget what the other was but it had cheese and sour cream); try it, I liked it :). The retro commercials and witty quips are a nice touch. read more

It's funny that I've lived down the street from the Bar Car for about 7 months now and that a majority of my visits have been within the last couple of weeks. This place is a unique - it reminds me of a bar that you would find in Philly - which is close to where I grew up. It just has that unique charm to it. Anyway, let me get on with it. My first impression of the Bar Car wasn't great. My roommate and I came here one night on our way back home after going to a couple other bars. It was mediocrely busy with one bartender working and it took us a while to get our drinks. Fast forward to two weeks ago. I walk past here all the time and notice that they have BBQ smokers outside from time to time. I had also heard from some friends that the BBQ here is pretty legit. I don't eat BBQ often because when I do, I want to make it worthwhile. Anyway, I decided to stop in here for some food after hitting a nearby brewery and am so glad I did! I ordered the 3 meat combination platter - pulled pork, pulled chicken and brisket with 2 sides - bacon potato salad and baked beans. The meat was tender, juicy and smokey. I'm not normally a fan of potato salad but when you put bacon in it, I am. Needless to say, I polished this plate right off. The bartender was quick to take my order and get me a drink. An order of cheese curds to go (which were also good) rounded out this visit. My most recent visit was with a few friends. I ordered each of their tacos - smoked pork, chicken, brisket, al pastor, and chorizo mashers - they were the perfect size, full of flavor and filled me right up. Next time I'll be sure to come back on a Tuesday, when they are only $1.50. The beer selection isn't half bad and is priced right. They have some cool specials throughout the week such as $1 off drafts during happy hour (M-Th 3-7), beer and shot specials, and of course the mystery shot. I live much closer to the College Inn but this place has got them beat in every category. Looks like I have a new go-to bar. read more

A menu anyone can find something. Our service from Brandi was too much fun!! Don't let that girl go! Will definitely be back!

Cool name, beautiful place, and amazing atmosphere. These are some of my best things about The Bar Car. Not a lot of bars with cool music around town and this place definitely manages to stand out, and I say this completely as a person who prides himself on being the great bar connoisseur. Don't get me wrong, it's not by far the best of the best but it's definitely up there with the strong ones.   They also have pizza to hold your stomach when you start to get hunger-weak; it's not the best pizza I've ever eaten of course, but at the same time I'll say it's pretty good for a bar pizza. I'd rate it very high in fact. read more

Waiter was rude and aggressive asked us to hurry our order. Would not recommend choose somewhere else.

They served us old, sour wine. I told the bartender and she laughed and said, "it probably is bad! We only order from them about once a month. That bottle's been open forever!" Then she handed me the bill and tossed the wine... Which I paid for!! I know it's hard to find employees who care at all about their job or the reputation of the establishment that employs them these days, but WOW. She may as well have thrown it in my face. Never again will I be back at this local pub! read more

The Bar Car combines a lot of things I love: - Drinking - Local Beer - Fancy tater tots (They have the crossovers from the Horseshoe like buffalo tots, but they also make a delicious thing called "Natcho Totchos" which is tots, queso blanco, jalapeno, beans, and salsa.) - Corn dogs - Wi-Fi (that's free!) - Good wine (for a bar that doesn't specialize in wine) - they even had one on tap - Happy Hour - The ability to add bacon to anything for a mere $1 - Fun events like a parking lot derby party - Crazy cool bartenders And they have one thing that Sir Nicholas loves in particular - the ol' beer and a shot combo. And this little duo is $6 all day, every day So, all of that clearly makes this place a spot I like and I'd hang out in it even if it smelled a little like pee, or just like The Recovery Room which used to be here. Luckily for me, the remodel has made this into a good smelling, quite lovely bar to hang out and enjoy all of the above. I've been a big fan of Jonesy's and the Horseshoe and with The Bar Car Leigh and Co. are just increasing my mad crush on everything they do. Next up I need to try the Stingray! read more

I'm getting to be an old lady. I need light to see. The thing I love about this little dive bar is that it has these great chandeliers that they actually turn on and use! I don't know if it's always that way but I really loved it when I was there. I also love that they have DELICIOUS deep dish pizza with tongue tantalizing tomato sauce (seriously, if you were home alone you would lick it) and crust that was prepared with love. The thin crust pizza is so good that the crust is actually part of the experience instead of just a vehicle for the yummy toppings like BACON. I used their website to order the deep dish ahead of time (it takes 45 minutes) and it was ready when I got there. They also deliver... so you CAN lick the sauce in the privacy of your own home. read more

I really don't know what category the Bar Car falls into, if it's a bar, a pub, a dive bar... Recently I've been going to dive bars more often than ever before, especially after Yelp; now to me, big chain bars where there is a corporate America runs it, it makes really not appealing because everything will be the same as any other bars they own, same drinks, same boring foods. The Bar Car is a hit! I love it, from the outside it doesn't look like the regular bar scene, but once you step in, you'll amaze yourself! Seriously, dim lights, bold lamps, side seating, it really feels like I'm in a train, going from Cape town to Johannesburg inside those luxurious trains, this place has one of a kind atmosphere, filled with great people, and bartenders that serve delicious and potent drinks. Go on board and enjoy the journey. read more
