Great for a quick par 3 9-hole round! I've never been before the remodel so I don't have a reference to compare it to, but the course was really beautiful and laid out well! You're playing by the river the whole time so it feels amazing out there when the weather was nice. We played after a few days of rain but the grounds weren't super muddy which was really nice. There was only one tee box set per hole (no front or back tees) so they may still be continuing the renovations. I'll be back whenever we want to play a quick round! read more

As a beginner getting into the game, this course is definitely a great start! Milton and the marshals on the 1st tee were very friendly and great about giving me the lowdown about the course. It's also super nice being near the water. The greens are nicely maintained, however some parts do have heavy muddy depths, nothing that would be too messy but you'll get your shoes grassy wet! I would 100% come again!! $21 + $5 push cart fee. Didn't think it was too steep! Finished in about 1hr 30mis. read more

The course layout is cool. Fun place to get in a relatively quick 9 with some challenge. Happy it's here. Definitely not cheap in any way for what you get. $21 to walk and $5 20oz gatorades. The problem I have is with the way it's being run and the attitude of the employees. I just spoke with Milt who states he is responsible for putting out the only water on the course. He says he didn't put water yesterday because he felt it wasn't hot enough. When we played yesterday afternoon it was very sunny and 80 degrees. Important to note this is a walking course with almost no shade and with no drinking fountains. I asked why not just put it out everyday regardless of how hot he feels it is since people are doing a physical activity and could use water even when it feels cool. He then proceeded to be rude and refused to answer that question.. mind you only two of holes that are supposed to have the water ... holes 3 and 5. My suggestion is that the course hire a different person to perform this task that has a better attitude and that cares and understands why people playing a sport need water. Also maybe just have water at the clubhouse and or the beginning of the course to make it easier to fill and maintain. read more

Horrible layout! Tee boxes are not clearly defined except a small signs with arrows. Grass clippings are in clumps throughout the entire course. It looks from a distance as if horses have been out on the course. Beautiful setting along the river. They need to find a way to capture the lawn clippings before I would return. read more

Most of the poor ratings are from before this course was assumed by the city/county parks and renovated. It is vastly improved. The course design is a variation on a links style course where you either land that little ball on the green from the tee or plan to do a lot of climbing up and down around it. I swear that 7th hole is one of the hardest in the area... par 3, eh? What makes it challenging? The distance from the tee makes it easy to either undershoot or overshoot the green, then you play with your wedge or 9 iron for a bit to try to get it up there and stay. The greens are nicely variable, at times fast and other times slower, they are large enough to have interesting topography. It seems they move the pins every once in a while to keep repeat players on their toes. The fairways are narrow, so bring extra balls if you are not good at straight shots from the tee. The creek running through the course adds a challenge. If you find my balls, you're welcome! Minus one star because they now have electric carts which I have found on several occasions to be either pushy or risky. I get the importance of riding if a player struggles with mobility to walk the course, so as a commitment to accessibility, it's great to have carts available. But it seems anyone can use a cart which means there are people moving really fast through the course, catching up to walkers, or they are zipping around the blind hills into the fairway -- this happened twice on my recent visits, once when my tee shot on the 8th hole almost shot right into the cart through the windshield and a second time it ruined my tee off on the 8ther hole because I saw them last minute and pulled up. They just zipped on by like nothing was at issue. Let's just say not everyone on the course is courteous or attentive to what they're doing.... I would hope that staff could give cart users guidance to reduce these frustrating impacts and risks. Other than this annoyance, this is a very fun short (not easy) 9 hole 3-par course. Overall, it is a fun course, well maintained, and beautifully set between the American River and bike trail. And if you are affiliated with Sac State you can play M-F for $18 (about $3-4 savings). read more

Terrible new layout. You need a Sherpa or be part Billy-goat to traverse the inclines and dips between holes. Usually punishment awaits those who do not keep it in the fairway. But here you traverse dips and valleys between holes on a regular basis. And hole 6 can't tee off until you arrive at hole 7 tee box because leaving hole 6 requires you walk down the hole 6 fairway for 60 yards. I loved the course before, I'll not go back. Poor redesign. hi-ya! We went here and played with friends and it was a lot of fun. We're not good at golf and driving at the range isn't as much fun as actually playing. The course is fairly intimate, other players polite and the pro shop is clean and professional. The greens were in good condition and fairly well kept--there are a lot of geese that hang out and leave their business, but it's nature...what can you do? haha. Overall the employees, the park and the difficulty of playing were all great. We look to play again in the future as we continue learning and playing. read more

This is only the second time I have ever golfed so... take my review as you wish :) I thought this place was great. We had a 9:08am tee time on a Saturday. It wasn't busy and it was a beautiful September morning. The cost on weekends/holdidays is $15 per person for 9 holes ($7 per person for the second round) and $10 for the cart. I would recommend getting the cart. The course is a Par3 and I thought it was a nice course to star on. It is next to the river so be prepared to lose a couple golf balls. read more

Don't go here if you are trying to play a relaxing round of golf. The course was hard to figure out which hole was next and the grounds were horrible. Worst course I have played on by far. The owner I think it was that helped us out was very nice and passionate about the place and that's the only reason I am willing to give this a 2 star review. The greens felt really weird and spongey. I wouldn't even consider them "greens". I could cut my own grass in my backyard and use that to put on better them this courses greens. Don't want to be mean but this course has a lot of potential. It's in a wonderful area! All they have to do is get a great grounds keeper and maybe switch it to a only par 3 course. This course is easy to access in a lovely location next to the American River and the bike trail. Trees are abundant to add a bit of challenge and nice shady retreats from the summer heat along with cooling breezes off the water; a few small sand traps dot the landscape here and there. A coyote sauntered across our path on the third hole, fearless and unthreatening; the usual array of geese flocked to the south side of the course. Why such a low rating? The building is ramshackle and the parking lot broken up in places. I found it hard to believe they were open for business when we approached the locked front door covered in dirt and cobwebs. There were signs guiding us through pandemic distancing protocols on the side entrance, yet they took cash only. The greens look neglected, no rakes in the sand traps, some holes are missing markers, vegetation almost completely covered the bench at one unmarked hole, divots everywhere. On the bright side, there was no trash and the other players we encountered were friendly. read more

While there is nothing majorly wrong with the course, I find those who work in the clubhouse suspect. First off, it is a 'cash only' business. Secondly, I had to ask for my receipt, which took a while to print up. Lastly, the golfer behind me paid less for the nine holes than I. Evidently, there is an unwritten rule to discount golfers if the temperature goes pass 90 degrees. While there was less than two minutes between the two transactions, the person behind the counter did not want to give me the same discount. All in all this is a rip off... read more

My first time ever trying golf! Thanks to Vincent M. I like this course! It was a great course and kept up very well. The course is only nine holes but a nice challenge for a beginner like me or seasoned vet. The course is super cheap but they don't take cards. So make sure you bring your friends Mr. Jackson, Mr. Hamilton, and Mr. Lincoln along for the ride to join you and help you when needed. The staff was friendly and helpful. The people on the course were cool also because we took our time at each hole. Overall great place to golf! I have found another new thing to add to my list of activities to keep me going. read more

This is a nice little 9-hole course that will test your short game. Plays just under 1700 yards from the farthest tees, and even though every flag can be seen there is enough of a challenge for any recreational golfer. I paid $17.50 for 18 holes (two times around) and finished my round in just about 3 hours. Be aware: THIS IS A CASH ONLY ESTABLISHMENT. As far as the course: decently maintained, greens in good shape, and tee boxes fairly leveled. Be prepared to wait on most holes, but the pace is fine. There is an active retirement community next door, so you will see quite a few seniors out there. I played with one of the coolest senior citizens I've ever met. There aren't any markers once you leave the tee area but that wasn't a big deal since everything is Par 3 or 4. There aren't any ball washers or water jugs, but there is a water fountain around hole 5. You could play the entire course with a hybird, a wedge, and a putter. It's a good practice course, a good learning course, or a good course to start if you're playing multiple rounds in a day. There isn't much of a club house so make sure you have balls, hats, drinks, and food/snacks before you get there. read more

Poor experience at this course. My partner and I tried texting to schedule a tee time the night before, as it said on the website. The time was not booked. We called the morning of and they said they would call us back when they got back to the shop. They not only didn't call back but let several groups of people go before we finally had to call again. We had to wait 30 minutes after we had already attempted booking several times and waited nearly a half hour for them to call back (which they never did). They let way too many groups go at too close of a time. Golfers were getting rushed while others were impatient and frustrated. The holes don't specify how many yards each hole is or what par is. The holes aren't even numbered... that's not ideal and can be confusing. We ended up only playing two holes before we decided to leave. Waste of my money and time. The grass was also muddy; it didn't appear pretty or well managed. To top it off, you can only get a gold cart if you are 26 or older. That's older than you have to be to legally rent a car. Rough for me with bad knees, but good if you want that sort of exercise I suppose. I'm disappointed by the experience. The only time I could find this course to be useful would be to get extra practice at a time when the course is not particularly busy. read more

I had a very nice time here. They have a happy hour special which meant I got a round of golf and 2 PBR's for $15.50 ($12 for golf, $1.75 per beer). I like to play late afternoon golf for the cheap prices so this worked out great. It was a surprisingly attractive, nice little course and I found it a bit difficult. That might have more to do with my skill set however. Lots of ground squirrels so there were some deep holes in the sand traps that you could definitely lose a ball in. The guy at the counter was real nice too. Love good customer service. There was a small practice putting green where you could chip and pitch a bit. For those who haven't been but live in Sacramento, Campus Commons is that golf course you can see when crossing the J Street bridge. It's a sweet little 9-hole, par 34 course. Not quite a pitch and putt, but plenty of 3 pars to be had. I grew up learning the game on this course, and still enjoy the occasional 9. The course itself is a mixed bag: some holes are really boring (see 1 and 2), but some are awesome (the 200 yard par 3 5th hole, the really tough 3 par on the 7th hole). The greens are often very very soft, almost to the point that it seems like you're walking on sponges. They used to have a great rate where you could play for about $8 after 5 pm. However, these days I believe the twilight rate is closer to $14 or $15, which is a bit more than I think it's worth given it's mostly 3 pars. Regardless, when you just want a quick round with a few buddies and beers, this isn't a terrible choice. read more

This little par 3 1/2 is a gem, a great practice course to work on a wide range of clubs. One of my issues with par 3 courses is that I find I wear out one club in the bag, and this isn't the case here. Course 4/5: great range of hole distances, lets you work on a lot of different clubs. Challenging enough that it forces you to hit the ball high and low, and curve it left and right. Maintenance 3.5/5: A couple tee boxes can be a little rough. Overall they do a good job, greens are in good condition. Price 3.5/5: $14 for 9 holes. Facilities 2/5: If only they had a driving range! Nice practice green. Spartan post-round lounge area. Atmosphere 5/5: Incredibly friendly at the shop. You aren't bothered by marshals on the course, and everyone is extremely courteous about either main ting pace or allowing people to play through. I would definitely play there again! It's a great practice and beginners course! read more

Christ it was hot this past Saturday when I played Campus Commons during our annual Open. But in the name of my crappy golf game, I persevered and our foursome (Ace, Gus, and Todd) took to the 9-hole course at eleven amid a potential triple digit day. Well maintained greens, river views, and lots of wildlife (think geese and a coyote or two) at this somewhat pretty course that plays adjacent to the American River over by State and the J Street bridge. Greens fees run about thirteen bucks during the week, unsure what they are on the weekends but it can't be much more than that. The only drawback is there is not much of a clubhouse or pro shop. You can get beer, soda and water, but not much more beyond that. read more

Made a tee time for 945. We show up grab all of our stuff and walk in the lobby at 946. I know because there is a clock above the front desk. The lady tells us she gave away our tee time because we are a minute late...so you're gonna let someone make a reservation, drive all the way over to your golf course and tell us we can't play anymore because we walk in 60 seconds late? Meanwhile some people who just show up and didn't take the time to make a reservation get to just walk on and play. Really unprofessional, will never waste my time with this joint again. Always felt it was overpriced anyways and the course is covered in geese crap. Also they only take cash so if you want to waste 3 bucks on an atm remember to bring cash. When time is tight, I really like playing golf here for 2 reasons. First, it's a beautiful course right next to the American River. Second, it's right smack dab in the middle of town, so i can get a quick game in and move on quickly to my next destination. It's well taken care of, you can walk on almost any time and since it's a 9 hole course it's super cheap. Most fairways are between 150 and 220 yards. read more

I went here on a Tuesday morning around 8 and there was no one in front of me or behind me so I had a chance to take my time on this beautiful 9 hole! The do an early bird special where I paid only $7 for a round of golf! Everything is well maintained which made it easy to find my stray shots! Wendy and Dale were in the pro shop and were super friendly and made sure to let me know about their email specials! Definitely will be coming back here to one of the best 9 holes I've played at! read more
