I don't even know where to begin. Dining at The Kitchen is unlike any other restaurant. First, it's an experience not just dinner. Expect to be there for 4 hours or more. During the course of dinner you may be served 15 different plates of food -- all of it absolutely fabulous. If you get the premium wine pairing, you get something like 6 glasses of good and interesting wines. As Chef Kelly says: this is one French restaurant where you won't be hungry when you leave. He's spot on about that. The kitchen is in the middle of the restaurant. Seats are arranged around it. The kitchen is the theatre and the food is the show...and what a show. Unlike The French Laundry or other similar restaurants, I detected no pretension. This is about experiencing excellent food, not putting on airs. The service was excellent. The ambiance too. Diners can actually go into the kitchen and even prepare food. It's crazy wonderful. Reservations must be made well in advance. Dinners are prepaid and there are no refunds. I'm so sad to write this, but I'm docking a star. This is me being picky. Especially since they have a star again. As an experience Kitchen goer, my recent visit didn't exceed nor match my previous visits. Prior to this last visit, they had plenty of stations walking in. Right when you entered-- bam! Goodies here and there. Last week only had two stations. Although good stations, but I definitely missed the engaging and walking around aspect when entering. Service was a lot slower than previous visits. I understand it is a different season, but service shouldn't change. Only food. The summer menu was good. Their fish was a tad bit dry, and that's being picky. A lot of pastas. All in all, a fun and interactive experience. Would I go back? Absolutely. Although I really expect to see more in the future. In addition to everything on the menu there were 5 additional appetizers delivered to your seat along with a wagyu taco and wonton chip ceviche stations. Throw in an amuse bouche, 3 different oyster preparations and 4 extra desserts! Chef Gio said it was 6000 calories without seconds lol. The Kitchen is much more than a restaurant with incredible food, the whole dining experience elevates everything to another level. If you want to help plate dishes, cook, or do anything in the kitchen, they give you that opportunity. As I stated, the food is incredible. They have a rotating seasonal menu, and when we went, we had the winter menu. From the very first courses in Act I like the Chestnut Gnocchi and Fort Bragg Black Cod, to the spectacular Lacquered Pekin Duck Breast in Act II, every single dish was perfection. One of the absolute best parts is that you can actually revisit any item on the menu, a perk we fully embraced by revisiting the oyster intermission for extra rounds of those incredible Salt Bay oysters and Shigoku shooters. If you have not had the opportunity to experience The Kitchen, I highly recommend it. My wife and I usually save it for special occasions because it is definitely a splurge. That said, the exceptional food, outstanding service, and unforgettable atmosphere make it well worth the cost. From the moment we walked through the door, we knew we were in for a treat! The experience is like no other with the open kitchen and highly interactive experience. I mean, we ended up the pastry bag of fresh whipped cream by the end of the night...just because we asked for the fun of it! Despite the whimsy chaos of it all though, the food is also just delicious. A sampling of our menu included a butter poached halibut with artichoke puree, a handkerchief pasta with morels and sweetbread, tom kha oysters, and a seared lamb sirloin....and this was just a fraction of what we were treated to this night! Boyfriend and I also paired a bottle of wine with dinner and really enjoyed our Italian Amarone. The Kitchen also offers pairings of all types for the meal: wine, cocktails, even mocktails if you please. All in all the experience was well worth the splurge. After speaking with the General Manger Kelly I have an even worst taste in my mouth. The conversation she tried to carry was definitely uncalled for. After expressing my displeasure of the Chef talking bad about French Laundry and referencing he doesn't do cocaine anymore, she tried to guide the conversation by saying have you heard this other guy talk he is even worse. That was not the point, you as an establishment/business should not be publicly basing other businesses! They did not acknowledge any points I had and tried to tell me since I was still hungry it was "great" I had 8 dishes of one the tiny BAY SCALLOPS! Kelly I had them again because it was 15 minutes in-between each dish! Yes we did stop somewhere on the way home by the way. After hearing her keep talking about excuses I really didn't think the conversation needed to keep going. Also the attitude and the way you ended the conversation by saying anything else, okay "byeeee" just shows how unprofessional you and this place are. Lucky enough to have been here for my third visit, this time for my birthday! This is our second time coming since they received their Michelin star, and first time at the new location. It makes more sense here next to their sister restaurant Selland's, and way less sketchy than the old spot behind Taco Bell! The designated spots are nice as well so you're not stuck searching for something along Broadway. For this visit we had the Spring menu. One thing that newcomers should know is that what you see on that course menu is far from everything that you'll receive. Right off the bat, we saw oyster stations set up and they brought us FIVE different appetizers! They were all so delicious but standouts were the beef tartare mini tacos and halibut ceviche. This was followed by an amusebouche, fresh bread, course 1 and 2, an intermission of an oyster trio, course 3 and 4, and SIX desserts!! Wow we were so full after four hours of nonstop deliciousness. The fun part about this place is you can order seconds (or more..good luck finding that at another Michelin) but you truly don't even need it, so don't go too crazy and only request the additional servings on the ones you REALLY love (one time we ordered the gnocchi plate three times). Chef Kelly and Chef Gio and their entire team make this such a memorable meal. We are so lucky to have this Michelin experience here in our own backyard, and it's still our favorite to this day. It's the most approachable Michelin restaurant you could ever get and you're guaranteed to leave full. What a great experience. One piece of advice: don't come late like my group did. If you do, you'll take the behind-the-scenes route and miss out on the welcome experience with the appetizers and oysters upon entry. Thankfully, they were still serving oysters when we got there, so we were able to grab a few before the appetizers rolled out. I won't go into detail about the food because the menu changes, but I will say every dish was truly a work of art. The thought put into the ingredients, the quality, and of course the presentation--it was all on point. A win no matter what the menu is. I will say this though: if there's a dish you love, you can order it again. My group of six wasn't shy about asking for more oysters, bread, and pasta. You'll definitely walk out 5 lbs heavier from all the good eats and drinks. I've been lucky enough that this was my second time at The Kitchen (my first was at their old location about 10 years ago), so I came in with some expectations and good memories from my last visit. Happy to say it's exactly how I remembered it. Chef was high energy and hilarious, the servers were beyond accommodating and personable, and the bartenders were hauling ass all night getting drinks out without compromising quality. I have been lucky enough to have dined at the Kitchen several times. Each experience was different but all amazing. It's a bit tough to get a reservation so you need to plan four months in advance as that's when reservations open up. If you do that, the likelihood of you getting a spot is pretty good, even on a weekend. The food is to die for with multiple courses that changes monthly. Just note that the food is usually paired with a rich sauce but they do check with you prior to your reservation date about any dietary restrictions. My favorite for the spring menu were the steak tartar and oysters served multiple ways. The chefs and staff are engaging and do their job well...my napkin was always folded when I returned if I left my seat. Service was excellent. I did notice that portions seem to be smaller than what they used to be but you won't leave hungry since you can order as much as you want. First off, good luck trying to get reservations. It's nearly impossible. Secondly, come hungry. While this isn't a buffet dinner, you can have as many servings as you'd like. The food - it was whimsical and each bite took me to a new layer of flavor. I felt like Violet Beauregard from Willie Wonka and the Cholesterol Factory. The show - during intermission the chef does a little storytelling and announcements. Like a ringleader of a circus. Knowing what I know, I'll go for the food and pass on the drinks. Everything was overkill. I would consider the evening more of an experience than fine dining. A friend said that if you ate everything served, it would be well over 4,000 calories. Well, I think that doesn't even touch it. Waiting outside until 6:30 PM, then being let in at basically the same time, was a little anticlimactic. I have very mixed feelings about the evening. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and each one was quite good at their job. Individual chefs asked about allergies, and we felt very welcome. Immediately, small and delicious snacks were brought to our table. Some were better than others, but they were light and a nice way to begin the evening. We ordered cocktails. My Martini was light and served in the "lightest" glass ever. My husband's Old Fashioned was nicely rendered, but nothing outstanding, even though it was featured as a "special" drink of the night. We have both had better for less money. I will say that the presentation of each dish following was stellar. The Butternut Squash Risotto with cheese and caviar was very rich and began the telling of the rest of the evening. The Seared Day Boat Sea Scallop "Veracruz" was cooked to perfection. Then arrived the oysters. One was very salty, the one served in "Bloody Mary" and etc. ruined the taste of the Washington State Shigoku, which are wonderful on their own. I did not eat the third one, as I like the flavor of oysters. By the time the Lasagna Al Forno arrived I was pretty sure I could not eat any more rich foods, so tasted it and did not eat. The Pan Roasted Beef Flat Iron was beautifully presented, but quite chewy. One bite was good for me. The desserts just kept coming and coming. I appreciate the effort, but was not overly impressed. One amazing dessert would have been more in line with the rest of the evening. By then, it was close to 10:00 PM and the noise level kept rising with the alcohol served. We did the $135 Standard wine pairing, not the $255 special pairing with dinner. The champagne was okay; the first white was an interesting combination of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. After that, I did not think the selections were wonderful and did not drink any of them after the initial sip. When asked, as the evening drew to an end, if I enjoyed the pairings, I had to admit I did not. The manager said she was very happy to remove the wine pairings from our bill. I said it was not necessary, but she insisted and wanted to know what she could do to make it right. I suggested an Irish Whiskey for myself and scotch for my husband would be fabulous. For some silly reason, I did not expect to be charged $80 or so dollars for the two. With about 75 people and 25+ staff, it was a well-oiled machine, but just a little too slick for me. The Food Though a bit of effort, we were able to get a reservation for the critically acclaimed The Kitchen. We were in time to experience...appropriately enough, Spring is nature's way of saying, 'Let's party'. It starts with a Prelude of small-bite snacks. Which is an understatement, since there was quite an array of snacks. Our favorites were the Spring Rolls and the Cheese Empanadas. Following was Act I with Butter "Bathed" Alaskan Halibut and "Handkerchief" Pasta. Continuing with an Intermission of a variety of Oysters and different sauces. Then it was Act II with Fines Herbes "Gnudi" and Spiced Butter Basted Lamb Loin. Finally, concluding with "Chloe" as dessert, along with an array of other desserts. Needless to say, all the dishes were delicious, my favorite was the Alaskan Halibut. All the desserts were great as well, but that might be my biased sweet tooth. The Miscellaneous The Kitchen is one of the more unique restaurants I've dined at. With its open kitchen concept, it reminds me of Omakase and, by contrast, of my college dining hall. The restaurant can house many guests, and it took a bit of time to seat everyone. The staff were professional and courteous, guiding the guests throughout the dining experience. The chefs were enthusiastic and encouraged everyone to explore the restaurant. All in all, it was a wonderful dining experience. The only nitpick I have is probably the transparency of their drinks. My goal in life is to have The Kitchen for dinner every other week, or at least once a month because WHAT!!!! This was unlike any other Michelin experience I've had and I was completely blown away. From the staff, the ambience, the food; wow, just WOW. As this was my first time, I took my time taking it all in. Get there early and try all the appetizer/small bites at least once (we went around twice!). I immediately noticed that most parties of 2-3 were seated at the counter and you want to sit here!!! It's a more intimate experience with the chefs and you can see everything better. We were also able to speak to the chefs and ask them questions about what they were preparing; it was nice. While each course is being prepared, it's encouraged to walk around while the chefs are cooking. And while we hesitated, I mustered up the courage to get up. As chefs are playing and cutting, they will offer you a little taste test, for QA of course. They also let you help plate food, which I thought was cool. The food was delicious, but what really impressed me was the dessert course(s)!!! I love a good dessert and wow they went above and beyond! Chocolate mousse, cheese plate, cookies and "milk", macarons, jellies, marshmallows, cream puffs, and madelines to take home. I always heard how hard it was to get a reservation for The Kitchen but on a whim I checked and was able to snag one. Granted it was 2 months out but I was thrilled none the less. Located on Broadway by Bike Dog and Sellands. Parking can fill up pretty quickly since bike dog and Sellands gather their own pretty decent crowd. Doors open right at the time of your reservation so if you arrive early, plan on sitting outside. A line does form but it doesn't matter your place because they have already assigned your seating. I was pleasantly surprised we were seated at the seats surrounding the kitchen so we had a front row view of everything. Once seated, we were immediately offered ceviche and drinks. We opted for the cocktail pairing menu and holy cow it was a lot of alcohol. We a little bit of something from every category of alcoholic. Gin, vodka, rum, tequila, wine, brandy and whiskey. I am not a fan of whiskey and they allowed me to sub my whiskey drink for one of the drinks they served prior that I really enjoyed. At the end of the night right before for dessert, they offer coffee or an additional drink and I got the espresso martini which was delicious. I'd definitely recommend an uber or DD if doing any of the drink package pairings. The head chef came out and introduced himself and his staff. I love that it was highly suggested we all got up and ventured around the kitchen, to ask questions and interact and even help plate some dishes. I was back there helping plate the pasta dishes. It was so fun. For the parade of bites it was the ceviche, candied apricots, chips, blackberries, empanadas, spring rolls, tomato soup mousse and pancetta skewers. All were amazing, and while I knew we could ask for more, but we held back because we knew the main event was yet to come. The main course items consisted of halibut, oysters, pasta, flank steak, gnocchi and scallops. Small portions, yes. But you can ask for 2nd or 3rds or more of anything you want. By the time dessert rolled around I was so full. I didn't even get to try the strawberry lady finger cheesecake and only a few bites from the platter of cookies. Expensive, yes. For 2, just to reserve dinner, after fees and what not it was $604. The drink package for 2 plus additional drinks and more fees was a little $500. We paid for the drink package at the time of our meal tho. But even with that price tag, I'm already planning on another trip once the summer menu drops. read more

Came into The Kitchen in Sacramento expecting a typical Michelin-starred experience... and left realizing this place throws "typical" completely out the window. The night kicks off with the chef giving a speech that basically sets the tone: there are *no rules*. And they mean it. You're encouraged to get up, walk around, explore the space, and try anything that catches your eye. It felt more like a culinary playground than a fine dining restaurant. The variety was honestly impressive--everything from Asian-inspired bites to fresh raw oysters to Mexican flavors, all executed with care and creativity. After exploring, we were seated for the main portion of the meal--but even that didn't follow the usual script. Dishes were interactive, and we could actually participate in preparing parts of the meal. If we liked something? We could just ask for another one on the spot. That level of freedom and engagement made the whole experience feel personal and super fun. Now for the food itself: while everything was good, it didn't quite hit the same level of boldness and depth I've had at other 2/3 star Michelin spots. Flavors leaned a bit safer than I expected, and I was hoping for something a little more daring or memorable on that front. That said, this is easily one of the most fun and innovative dining experiences I've ever had. The concept alone makes it worth it, and there's so much potential here. Dinner at The Kitchen was more than just a meal, it was an entire experience. I had so much fun. The staff were so attentive and welcoming and the food was incredible. I definitely felt like it was worth the price and would love to come back. Next time, I don't think I would do the cocktail pairing. I was expecting it to be little tastes but it was six whole cocktails and they were arriving faster than I could drink them! I'd probably just do one or two cocktails in the future. You just cannot go wrong with The Kitchen. Is it truly worthy of a Michelin Star? YES! My first time being at the Broadway location and it is so much better than the prior location squeezed behind a Taco Bell. It's truly a culinary experience. We sat at the counter and I preferred that because it seems more spacious and you can see the chefs busily working in the open kitchen. I every course was a work of art. I can't say enough how amazing the experience was! Every single person I interacted with was so nice and engaging. How this restaurant doesn't have more Michelin stars, I don't know. I just wish I had remembered to take more photos! When the doors open, you're shown to your seats and asked about a drink order. You're then allowed to tour the restaurant... and trust me you want to because appetizers are EVERYWHERE. Of course the food was next level. A friend of mine is a vegetarian and it was awesome to see the food she was given as alternatives. If anything, I was jealous of some of hers! Come hungry because the food just keeps coming! Plus desserts! Once you sit down, the show begins and you get to watch as dishes are being prepared. It's hard to describe, but the environment was so much fun. One of my friends asked a server about process they do to prepare the duck... few moments later he was brought into the kitchen and got to chat with the head chef! I did the mocktail pairing and it didn't disappoint at all! I loved that my drinks were just as beautiful as the cocktails my friends got. Those little details matter! At the end of the night they called out people celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, and major milestones for everyone to clap and cheer... including some of their own. After all these years as a Sac resident I finally made it to The Kitchen! It was all that I thought it would be and then some. Compared to the various Napa and Bay Area culinary adult disneyland restaurants charging $500 a head, this Michelin star restaurant is a true bargain. The service is top notch and plates are cleared and silverware replaced in a flash. The staff is so friendly and welcoming, and so so accomodating to all our needs. I would give this restaurant one Michelin star instead of five. Considering the price and reputation, the overall experience was disappointing. The pacing of the meal felt very unbalanced -- we waited far too long for the main courses, yet all of the desserts were served at once with little presentation or care. The dessert quality itself felt below Michelin standards, lacking creativity, refinement, and attention to detail. What concerned me the most, however, was the hygiene standard in the open kitchen. The chefs were freely talking with customers while actively preparing food, and none of the kitchen staff were wearing masks. First time here and woah is it an experience. It's not just about the food- it's an entire event. Super fun! The venue itself is much smaller than I expected but this allows for mingling with the other tables as well. Everyone working last night was super eager to answer any question we might have and were truly looking to make our experience the best it could be (shoutout to Aria though- she truly went above and beyond!) Loved that there were still peaches on the menu! Wish the ceviche had an option without peanuts so my bf could've tried it as it was a fan favorite of the night. I also didn't know I liked oysters until last night (idk what I've tried in the past!). Favorite dish of the night was the heirloom tomato tarte with the prosciutto I absolutely loved the vanilla cake with the peach puree for dessert, the marinated olives were up there as well and the rosemary focaccia so much good food. my friends and I had a blast celebrating my bday! I would warn you in getting a beverage pairing- it is A LOT of fluid. Next time, I would stick with just 1-2 drinks from the bar instead. The flowers in the women's bathroom were absolutely stunning. Getting reservations for this restaurant is just as bad as concert tickets, but completely worth it. You should definitely show up when doors open to take advantage of all the appetizers they have around the restaurant. Watch the chefs prep and interact with them. The food kept coming and had me wanting more with every dish. Chef Gio knows how to entertain a crowd as well as he can cook. There are assigned tables but if you can, definitely try for a counter seat so you can watch all the cooking and prepping up front. The music was a little loud but not loud enough that you can't have a conversation with the person next to you. One of the best dining experiences I've ever had. Just celebrated my birthday here last week and it was an amazing experience as always. This is my second time coming here and it still felt new and exciting. The minute you enter those doors your transported to a beautiful place elegant but not intimidating very welcoming staff and it feels like they are ready to have a good time!!! This was such an amazing dinning experience. It was really interactive. We were able to explore the entire restaurant, including the kitchen area where the staff were serving appetizers. There is a full bar to purchase alcoholic beverages. In addition to the cocktail pairing, I also ordered a side car and espresso martini, which were amazing. I love that we were able to request additional servings of the dishes that we liked. Definitely worth the price and I will absolutely dine in again. read more

Such an amazing experience to have! Probably the best Michelin restaurant we have tried so far. They have a 6 course tasting menu, but be prepared that they add so many more courses in addition to that! Come hungry for sure. The experience starts off with a happy hour where they bring over several snacks to you and you can order drinks as well. After that, the main menu starts. The food is amazing and you can always ask for more of any course and they will bring it out to you. The service is truly amazing - they let you walk around the kitchen anytime, ask questions and even let you help plate some of the dishes! It's super open and everyone is so nice, which makes the ambiance so welcoming. Even dessert has 3 courses (make sure to save room for the chocolate chip cookies cause those are amazing). Worth every penny the experience costs. Make sure to get a reservation as soon as they open new spots (2 months in advance). read more

My husband and I just came to The Kitchen for the second time, but this time with a couple of friends. Amazing dining experience from beginning to end. When you arrive they bring out a few appetizers that are additional to what is on the menu. You can walk around the restaurant and even help plate dishes if you wish. Everything we ate was delicious. You can even ask for more of any item you like...although I did not and still left fully satisfied and even took some dessert home. My friend need substitutions for a few seafood dishes and they accommodated that with no problem. Staff is very welcoming and attentive and the Chef is engaging and funny. It is a bit of a splurge but the experience and food are definitely worth it. read more

Oh my and wow! This is the first time my husband and I have EVER had this type of experience or even stepped foot into a Michelin starred restaurant : ) so this might be a long review.... what a marvelous time. This restaurant is very open and modern. All members are so inviting and hospitable. Everyone we encountered made our group feel special. After we were seated at our table (there were six in our group) we had the same servers come by throughout our experience. There were a few of us with allergies (tree nuts/raw or undercooked meat) and all were accommodated with delicious alternatives even though this was a fixed menu dinner. My husband and I had our meal with the cocktail pairing. All parts of the meal from the small starters, all courses were beyond belief! There was nothing we didn't like! Some of the favorites were: salmon wrapped in perilla leaves, home made potato chips, mushroom bisque, flat iron steak, and the desserts? AMAZING. All the cocktails complemented the food items perfectly. There were two "showy" ones-one with vanilla fog and one Smokey one. All were delicious! Can't keep raving enough for this experience.
