To start off they give cornbread (which is amazing) but only gave us two pieces for three people, I don't know if they can't count or if they are just cheap but that was a bad start. I'm not a picky eater but please do not over season your food. Too salty to enjoy frankly, but it has potential. I stayed at the Hotel and came down to buy dinner. The chicken plate said mixed vegetables, I was given overly seasoned cauliflower. You can't have seasoned everything on a plate, especially mashed potatoes. The minestrone was decent and in retrospect I should've just ordered that and a grilled cheese sandwich. We were staying at the hotel as a stopping point on our way to drop my son off at school. The hotel itself has been renovated and it is beautiful. The restaurant is also well appointed and has a very laid back ADK vibe. The food was excellent and our waitress Ellen was fantastic. The Mac and Cheese is sublime. The Hotel Saranac is a beautiful spot and the renovation is very nice. Beds are super comfortable. The restaurant however was ok. If you like more rustic and slightly gamy flavors, you would probably like the food better than we did. The play on the campfire name comes through, but too much for us. I have read many of the reviews and it seems like service is the main issue. We had amazing service last night. He was very attentive and made some great suggestions. The food here is amazing ! The cheese curd appetizer with the mustard sauce was delicious. My wife had the Mac n Cheese and I had the burger which we would both order again. Having read previous reviews, we didn't have high expectations when we sat down but we were hungry and it was our best option at the moment. The atmosphere was warm and inviting and our waiter was welcoming and seemed attentive at the beginning. I can easily overlook suboptimal service but drinks were forgotten and then the too long wait for food and then the cold food when it finally arrived was just okay. The cornbread was the best thing (brought when we sat down) and the wine was tasty. But the food had obviously been sitting and getting cold for some time. Final complaint -- my salad didn't even have the items it was supposed to have. But we ate almost every bit of food because we were starving (except for the weird tomato chips). Complaints were met with smiles and nods and no action. But try your luck! A good meal here might be possible. read more

I stayed here Mother's Day weekend and had Two excellent meals at the campfire. For dinner, Seared Ahi Tuna and an excellent Pho. Paired with an elegant Albariño. Nothing to get excited about. It was pretty bland but I've noticed the further north you go, the less seasoning they use on food, so it could just be me. I'm compelled to write a review because we got incredible service tonight! I came to the bar with a friend and we ordered a couple appetizers and drinks. We wanted to take them up to the outdoor porch area. Everything was ready quickly and then........... I accidentally dropped two of the plates on our way upstairs, broken dishes and food everywhere. Camp Fire was recommended to us by someone at our hotel as a nice place for us to celebrate our anniversary. I went online and read about the restoration of the hotel and the restaurant's menu. It looked lovely so I made a reservation. We arrived early and the friendly hostess greeted us and sat us in a cozy booth for two and gave us our menus. That's when we sat for TWENTY MINUTES while various members of the waitstaff walked past us. Tables who were seated much later than we were seemed to be dining on their appetizers and we had yet to receive as much as a glass of water. Tables right next to ours were served, but we were ignored. I even tried making eye contact with several of the waitstaff only to be ignored. I walked up to the hostess and informed her that we had been waiting for over twenty minutes and no one had been to the table yet. She apologized and said she would find someone. Another five minutes passed and we were just about to leave when a waitress finally came over to the table. She apologized saying that there was some kind of mixup and she didn't know that she had our table. Ok. fine. I ordered a Highland Mule, which was probably the best thing I had all night aside from the cornbread and tiny crab ball appetizer. The complimentary cornbread was nice, but my white bean soup was nothing special. My Trout with Chimichurri was not seasoned and neither was the polenta. I've made Chimichurri sauce many times and it's always flavorful, but they somehow made it into a dry paste that all I could taste was the cilantro and no seasoning. I couldn't even taste any garlic. Really blah and flavorless. (The skin was crispy though.) Since this was a special occasion I decided to order dessert. I ordered the Panna Cotta. It was the TINIEST dessert I have ever seen. It looked like something out of the Tiny Kitchen video series. Compared with the brownie sundae or the s'mores desserts at the same or close to the same price it looked like it was meant for a Smurf, and not a hungry one. Do yourself a favor. Save your money and go to the BBQ place on route 86 or one of the local bars, or heck, even McDonalds. You'll get better service, portions, and flavor. read more

My husband and I were so excited to check out this place -they do a sangria Sunday and the music was amazing the atmosphere was fun and the service was great BUT he ordered the campfire burger done to medium and it was disgusting. It was so overcooked to the point where he was choking it down, charred all over and not in a juicy way -totally dried out. We never send food back and they were very busy -but it was a major bummer considering it was $17. We just moved to Saranac but unfortunately will not return to the campfire for dinner -I suggest skipping the food and just ordering the drinks! read more

Brought my mom here for lunch - we had eaten all over Lake Placid but Campfire was by far the best we had all weekend! Amazing service, fantastic food - do not leave without trying the fondue and the maple bourbon ice cream. Truly legendary stuff! Congrats on the successful renovation to Campfire. I had really high hopes but unfortunately they fell flat at almost everything. I don't mind spending money on a good meal, but this wasn't even close. I ordered the Corn soup with a Scallop. I will say the single scallop was delicious and probably the best thing I ate all night. The soup however was jut OK but was room temperature at best. Several of the other items were also served warm but not hot and everything was really unseasoned. Another person in my party ordered the Steak and was $39.00. The comment that was made was he had a better steak at AppleBees. Again, it was cold and no seasoning. The service was not terrible, but not great either. The acoustics were horrible and we found ourselves yelling at each other just to be heard. I was incredibly disappointed and would say there are several places in Saranac lake with better food! read more

We arrived at 6:45 pm. Our beers took 45 minutes, our burgers arrived after 90 minutes, and our salad was never served. We had a guest in from out of town and were eager to show her the Hotel Saranac. After visiting the gift shop where our guest spent several hundred dollars, we headed to the restaurant. I wish we wouldn't have because had the rudest waitress ever. EVER. She didn't ask us what we wanted. She refused to take our drink order. Just stood at the table staring at us. It was so awkward and uncomfortable. Im not sure what the deal was. The restaurant wasn't the least bit busy, so it's not like she was handling a lot of tables. When she came back with the order, she slammed the food on the table and never came back. She even was so bold to look the other way as we walked out the restaurant right past her as we left. I'm really sorry that our guest had graciously tipped her, even with her bad behavior. We have never been treated so rudely. When we asked for a manager, they said there wasn't one on duty. If you ever get Jacqueline as a waitress, make sure to ask for a different person. There is no excuse for her behavior and its really sad that an employee like her is employed at a place like Hotel Saranac, which everyone is counting on bringing revenue to Saranac Lake. With employees like Jacqueline, no one will be coming back to our town. The food was okay, but they really need to get their act together. We have lots of visitors who we have taken or sent here, but we won't make that mistake again. read more

I think i would give this place a 5 star but the staff was kind of blah. Our waitress did warm up after a little bit but other than that the food was really good. I had a build your own omelette as did my wife. I opted for fruit instead of toast and homefries. Everything was really good. Our son had the mini cakes with blueberries. The pancakes themsleves were good but they served them with real maple syrup which is nice comapred to the fake store stuff. All in all a very nice place for breakfast. I forgot to update this review. After we got the bill i feel like i need to say something about the price for the kids breakfast. Our sons pancakes were $9 and usually when you buy a kids meal or the waitress asks if they want juice it is included in the price. Well in this case our 4 year olds 4 oz apple juice was $3. The wait staff is abysmal and is holding this restaurant back. Unenthusiastic, unfriendly, slow. We've had a couple of young gentlemen as waiters who were very good, but the rest need to be retrained or fired. As year-round residents, we've had to walk out of the restaurant three times after having made reservations and not having anyone come to our table for the first 20-30 minutes. Then it took another 15 min. to actually get our drinks (2 beers and 2 glasses of wine). The food was bland. The quiche teeny tiny which was okay since it tasted terrible anyway. We never saw the waiter after our meals were brought out until he brought the check 45 min. later. Never checked in to see if we needed anything, like a new meal or glass of wine. Had lunch in late August. Small menu but very nice choices for lunch. I had the Cuban panini. Very tasty. Spouse had the campfire burger. Well presented and delicious as well. We started with the barkeaters salad which was large so we shared. Prices are a bit on the side but the food quality and atmosphere were worth it. Dinner menu looks very interesting. WARNING! Do not go here during carnival week! I thought this place looked great so I made a reservation for last night. The hostess told me the busser was trying to clean off a lot of tables at once. People were seated before us who didn't have a reservation. The manager came over and asked if we were being helped and I told him the hostess said to wait. The hostess came back and asked if we had a reservation like she had never seen us before. We were finally seated, we waited 10 minutes and no one came to serve us. I started to get up to get my drinks from the bar and the hostess told us our server was brand new and she was coming. After our drink order, it took over 30 minutes for our first drink to arrive and it was less than a serving of wine in the glass. Tables around us with different servers were also going up to the bar to get their drinks. People around us were frustrated and said they were having a bad experience. Our food was delicious... only good part of the night. I felt bad for our waitress because she seemed to not know anything which reflects poorly on her training (difference between a red & white wine... the COLOR). They have one busser, the wait staff is spread out all over the restaurant and it is poorly run. This was supposed to be our early Valentines as we don't go out to dinner a lot. Terrible experience. Poor management and staff issues . Never had dinner because they "lost " or order but we did get 1 drink and an appetizer in the first 15 minutes we were there, then NOTHING for a 1/2 an hour. The dinning room manager came by asking how everything was saw our empty drinks and appetizer plate and never asked if we needed anything or took the dirty stuff away. Finally caught the waitresses eye and she went running to the kitchen which we can see, because it's a glass wall, a lot of yelling back and forth and she runs to the computer and punches in a bunch of stuff right in front of our table mind you...still never looking at us but frantically looking for the order she never entered. So I went to her said, we have been watching and I knew our meal wasn't coming out any time soon, so we'd like to cash out and skip the meal. She said she understood and yes I was correct on the meal. Yet the dining room manager felt the need to stalk to my table behind me without addressing me and inform my husband the pork was taking a few additional moments to reach it's proper temp. She could have spoken to me when I was speaking to the waitress she listened to the whole convesation. Perhaps She figured my husband would be an easier sell on the NOT dinner? It was an outright lie and we all knew it. Don't waste your time there are MANY better options just down the road. Casa Del Sol is fantastic, as is Down Hill Grill. Both locally owned and operated by people who want you to be satisfied and have a good experience and return. This place is owned by out of towners who want to take your money and there's plenty behind you who have money to take so why bother to worry about the customer survice or satifaction. read more

let me start off with i have been to this restaurant twice and been disappointed both times and there will not be a third. i've learned my lesson. to start my plate was oily and unclean which made me inspect the rest of the table and to no surprise everything was dirty in some sort of way i should have left then however i'm no germaphobe so i just asked for a new plate and got another with some white dusty stuff on it.then we order from the waitress she doesn't introduce herself and proceed to wait for what seemed like awhile considering the small amount of customers just o have when my food comes out it has a hair on it like it's a garnish and send it back and watch my girlfriend eat her entire meal before there second attempt arrives and now she has to wait while i hastily eat. no apology for the hair is what got me but what set me off was that they expected me to pay for this whole inconvenience i happily paid for everything else however no apology was given and i was not paying for that. hopes this helps whoever read more
