This place was fantastic. I like the ambiance and the people working here was so nice. The drinks were cheaply priced and delightful.

The food would be different at another point but I've heard great things about their regular menu and would love to go back, since we've already been won over by the wonderful owners and atmosphere.

Honestly, probably one of the worst experiences I've had at a wine bar, which is unfortunate…read morebecause the place itself is really cute. We had reservations for 7pm, and when we arrived, the host immediately let us know it was her first day. She seemed a little flustered, which was understandable. We asked to check out the back patio and ended up choosing a corner table. There were maybe three other tables occupied, so it was pretty empty. Shortly after sitting down, we noticed something black moving through the vines above us.. turned out to be a rat. Another table noticed it too, and they jumped at the sight of it. When our waitress came by, my partner jokingly mentioned that they might have Ratatouille living there. She apologized and told us they'd actually had complaints about this before. She mentioned wanting to get a cat to take care of the problem, which I'm still not sure was a joke or not.. but seemed like a fun idea. Anyways, we laughed it off and decided to stay. Our waitress was genuinely sweet, but the service overall was just awkward. We weren't even given wine menus initially, which is a little strange considering it's a wine bar. We ordered a three-cheese board, two seasonal vodka pastas, and two glasses of wine. The food came out before our drinks, which was a little odd. The pasta itself was incredibly bland. Vodka pasta is one of my favorites, and this genuinely tasted like nothing. We had to ask for salt and pepper. Throughout the evening, different employees repeatedly came very close to our table without saying anything, then walked away. A few even gestured toward our food as if to clear it, even though we were still eating. Mind you, both the cheese board and pasta still had plenty left.. so the whole thing just felt a little strange and uncomfortable rather than welcoming. What sucks is that I was genuinely looking forward to trying more of their menu, especially dessert. But between the rat, the strange behavior from some of the staff, and the food, I just wasn't enjoying myself anymore. Overall, really disappointing. I don't see myself coming back.

The crème brûlée French toast is the best French toast of my life. I am sad when I miss brunch, because I would not be able to order it. It's got the right combination of crème anglaise, chantilly crème, syrup, berries, and walnut crumble. I love that it is not overly sweet where you want to go to the dentist after. I love it. Eggs and sausages have to be ordered separately, but I highly recommend ordering them together with the French toast. Eggs must be scrambled. One of the best scrambled eggs. Chef's kiss when eating them in one bite. We ordered the steak medium-rare and the eggs sunny-side. The Wagyu steak was juicy and tender. I recommend asking for extra chimichurri sauce. We loved the just dunking a piece of the steak with the yolk of the eggs, and piece of potato or carrot into the chimichurri sauce. It was an explosion in the mouth. We have tried all the pizzas, but our favorite is the funghi. We love the truffle sauce. It went really well with wine and even their sparkling rosé. All the food we ate today went well with wine. If you are not into wine, 1917 also offers cocktails. The cocktails had fun names like Permission Slip, Pear Pressure, Out of Office, etc. I recommend the Permission Slip if you like cucumber martinis. I enjoyed the Permission Slip very much. Afterward, you can go inside and have more wine. I always leave with a good time, a full stomach, and tipsy. Our server Bernardo (Bernie) was the best! Bernie was attentive and a good conversationalist. He was an overall swell guy.

HOT BUTTERED CLAMS: Wow... these were to die for. So delicious, and the clams really do just melt in your mouth. And together with the beans! Genius. We ordered it with bread too, which I highly recommend to soak up all the sauce. 2. SPICED SMOKED SARDINE PATE: They had so many tins that we were a little paralyzed, but we ended up choosing this one and it was delicious! It came with saltine crackers and pickled peppers. The star of the show was really the hot buttered clams, though. SERVICE (5/5): Service was great! They were really helpful with what we should order. TAKEAWAYS: I would definitely come back to Kippered - I want to bring a slightly larger group next time so I can order a bunch of tins! What this bar has to offer is so unique, and I'm glad I got to experience it.

We tried a yellowfin tartare which was great. I got the pasta which was very good, and my wife got the salmon. Salmon was fresh and great, but the broccolini side was ridiculously salty. Service was very good, but my wife wanted the tartare as an entrée and our server, who was honestly lovely, suggested it wasn't large enough for an entrée. Problem was, it was a pretty substantial portion and my wife would have appreciated it as a main. I loved getting to share the tuna, but if she'd have just ordered that, and not added the salmon, I think we both would've appreciated the experience more. A very good wine list, with some really nice wines by the glass - You don't see that often enough - and limited, but interesting beer. Ample parking, 90 minutes free.
