Not a good spot. No meat in the chicken (mushy) burrito was all tortilla , umm don't even what know what kind of cheese that was maybe queso never had a burritos like this . Carne Asada had a little more meat the meat was good. Please see the sizes of the burritos they were both the same price total bill $31.00. A bunch of nice guys run this place. It's not much to look at from the outside nor once you enter, but the experience is good and the food is good. No outside seating. We dined in and noticed they had a steady flow of pickup / take out the entire time we were there. Serving sizes were generous. We had the poblano pepper and taco salad as entrees. Overpriced. $50 plus dollars for 2 adult meals and 2 kid meals with free waters from the soda fountain at a place with plastic forks and a garbage can next to the door for me to clear my own table is completely ridiculou. Food: 4 stars - We ordered the Carne Asada Burrito, 3 mini tacos a la carte (2x carne asada and 1x al pastor), and a grilled chicken cheese quesadilla, along with a side of rice and beans. Overall, costed us close to $50 but was plenty of food for the preggo wife, our 19-month old and myself. The carne asada burrito comes with carne asada, beans, pico de gallo and guacamole. For $13, I would say it was decently portioned. Before the crazy inflation and shrink-gate, it would probably be a $7-$8 burrito, but at the new, inflated price-point, I wouldn't say it was generously portioned. The mini tacos were decently portioned as well with double corn tortillas for each taco. The al pastor taco was actually generously portioned and my wife was able to make 2x mini tacos with it by splitting the 2nd tortilla. The chicken and cheese quesadilla was a good size, and came with sour cream, guacamole and pico salsa. The tortilla was nicely crisped and had a good amount of cheese for a nice cheese pull from the initial bite. They offer 3 different kinds of salsa - pico, green and a roasted/spicy salsa. The only reason I am giving not giving a 5-star for food is because of their portion size to price-point and the pico salsa which is not necessarily watered down but the flavor is pretty basic. 5-stars for food are reserved for the best of the best. Service: 5 stars - We came in around 7:30pm on a Thursday night and they close at 8pm. There was only one other person ahead of us and nobody dining inside. There was one worker, wiping down tables and resetting the dining area and one at the counter. The worker at the counter was polite and friendly. I told him it was our first time here and he was patient and offered recommendations. We ordered for to-go as we did not want to be the last customers holding up their closing time (although we initially wanted to dine-in). We waited maybe 10-15 minutes after ordering our food and they threw in some chips and salsa for us as well. That was a nice gesture! Ambiance: 3 stars - The inside has an old, authentic Mexican vibe to it with painted murals on both sides of their walls and old, tile roofing above their drink station. They also have a bunch of their awards and accolades hanging on the wall closer to their ordering counter. Their digital menus are displayed on 3 overhanging TVs which is a nice, modern option. It's a small, fast-casual spot that I can see get crowded during a busy dinner rush. Overall, pretty small, basic dining area with a self-serve drink station and then the ordering counter. There's a couple small TVs for viewing pleasure as well, but there's definitely room for improvement with their overall space. Overall: 4 stars! I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for authentic style Mexican food. Most other spots are more of a Tex-Mex or Americanized Mexican food, but Caminero hit the spot for us (food/flavor-wise). We will definitely be back to try other items. read more

The first thing you should know is that there are no public restrooms here. I decided to order carne asada nachos and a breakfast burrito with Mexican style eggs. The portions are portentous and delicious. I almost couldn't finish the nachos. The burrito I ate the next day and was disappointed to find onions in it even though they knew that I didn't want onions in my food. Overall, great bang for your buck. I went with the California burrito and ordered it to go. $9.99. SOLD! to the lovely Yelp'er! (me) My order was up in no time. I raced home and it was as piping hot as could be. I got a couple of hot salsa containers included, but enough about these details. Let's chat about this burrito. The flour tortilla was incredibly fresh. It's a sizeable burrito. It's respectable. It's not that fake Chipotle / Double-D sized burrito. But you're going to be full without being miserable. It was chock full of beans + cheese + avocado and the meat of your choice. I went with carnitas. There was so much cheese and beans and avocado. I was so damn excited, you guys. The pork? OMG. It was tender and shredded and flavorful. The hot salsa was spicy without being overbearing. Very flavorful that added just the right amount of spice to my burrito. This was honestly the best and least expensive meal I've had after work on a Friday in a long time. This will most definitely be a new favorite and regular spot for me. Let's be honest. There are a lot of really good Mexican restaurants here in the Valley. There are a also just as many Mexican restaurants serving food that just isn't great. Caminero is a small casual, not fancy Mexican Restaurant located in a strip mall in North Peoria. They offer a LONG menu of many of your Mexican favorites, breakfast items, a kid's menu, and soft beverages. Prices are low portions are large. Someone from the newspaper recently wrote an article that the beef fajita quesadilla was the best that she has ever had anywhere and the beef fajita meat here is the gold standard to her so I felt that I needed to try it. We ordered and the people there seemed very nice and helpful. I ordered the beef fajita plate and my husband ordered the steak and onion plate. In reasonable time someone runs out our plates and offers us salsas. I receive a very large plate of food with good tasting white corn tortillas. The beef is tender and developed with flavors......Just too much flavor and too much salt for my taste......Maybe good for most people that can handle more salt than me. It taste like soy sauce and a seasoning table salt to me. I thought the salsas were good and the guacamole was good. My husband liked the steak and onion plate. He said that it was tastier than the beef fajita plate. I tried to taste it but couldn't after all the salt and soy from the fajita plate. All your friends stopped and picked up from here, Grubhub, Über Eats etc. The food is lightly seasoned, so only one alarmers - except for their tasty four alarm spicy salsas. Hmmm, yum. Lots of garlic and cilantro and nice level of heat! We've been here a few times now and like their Carne Asada, Pollo Fundido, killer Nachos Quesadillas and Chimies. But for a few bucks more, you can take home a pint of either their red or green tomatillo salsa. It's a must really. I've attached a bunch of photos to get you mouth watering. I have recommended this place in the past and think the food is awesome and the salsas really exceptional. That being said I can't recall ever being so upset with a restaurant before. I always over tip (too many years in restaurant and bar industries) although last couple times in here I thought I had been overcharged a bit. They have an old school register where they type in $2.99, $2.99 etc and you get a credit card receipt but nothing itemized. The owner charges me $22.66 for rice and salsa to go. I tip $3 for to go because it already feels like a ripoff. Waiting for food and staring at the large catering menu price board: 16oz rice $4.99, 8oz hot sauce $2.50, 8oz salsa $2.99. That's $10.50 total. Asked him for four extra little salsa cups to go as well and he did charge $1 for that although I had just watched him give the guy before me eight of them for nothing. This hurts because I can't tell you how many times I have been here and how much I support them. I ask him about my bill and we look at the receipt tape and he has an extra charge of $7.99 that he literally typed in on there, and he gives me back the cash but keeps the tip and then gives me a couple of extra hot sauces but no milds after charging me for it. Carne asada tacos had great flavor, you could tell meat quality was good and they came with a good portion of meat even though they were street tacos! My husband loved the carne asada burrito and the chips came with a full brown bag full! My only feedback is that the salsas were all watery- they had great potential though! I ended up mixing the spicy sauce in the regular salsa and it had more flavor. The green salsa was good too, but again just too watery. We will eat here again! It's amazing to me how hard it is to find good ol authentic Mexican food in the Northwest Phoenix area. Granted, having grown up in East Los Angeles where there's a pretty good Mexican restaurant just about anywhere you go, I figured I would shortly find a couple of go-to spots, but for other than chain-style fast food and fancier, pricey bar/restaurant food, I regularly drive east to the city to get reasonably priced authentic food. But a few months ago I drove by this little nondescript place in a strip mall near a grocery store and decided to stop by. So glad I did. Ambiance is basic in n out, clean and bright, with several tables if you choose to eat in. I learned from the newspaper and mag clips on the wall that Caminero has been there close to a couple of decades, serving up high quality enchiladas, chile rellenos, crispy tacos, tortas, burritos and combo plates with rice and beans, all I need to satisfy my regular hankering for the food I grew up with. I've tried all the above over the last couple of months, all really good. I do wish that they sold beer! We visited on a weekday for lunch and the place was pretty steady, with people dining in and many more getting takeout. My boyfriend ordered the carne asada and I ordered the green chile pork burrito. We both asked for our food to be in to-go boxes, as we knew we'd be having leftovers. Portions were hefty here! Also, don't forget to hit up the salsa bar. All of the salsas were tasty. I recommend the hottest one, which was tolerable if you like spicy foods. My boyfriend really enjoyed his carne asada. I took a bite of his steak, which I agree, was really flavorful. His entree also came with rice, beans, guac and handmade tortillas. My chile pork burrito was also solid. I love green chile sauce, so my burrito was smothered in it, which you can request, in addition to the green chile pork flavor within the burrito.
