    Carne asada burrito

Caminero used to be top tier but now mediocre and expensive. Paid over $17 for this burrito that's more like a tortilla with a side of carne asada. Was here 6 months ago and the price was usually between $12-$15. Not sure why the different price fluctuations.

Carne Asada Burrito / Chicken Burrito

Not a good spot. No meat in the chicken (mushy) burrito was all tortilla , umm don't even what know what kind of cheese that was maybe queso never had a burritos like this . Carne Asada had a little more meat the meat was good. Please see the sizes of the burritos they were both the same price total bill $31.00. Had a lot better with more meat n options for toppings there was no taco bar only red sauce no veggies, sauces were watery. Hope this helps.

This place has been putting out excellent Mexican fare in North Peoria for many years. Nothing fancy, just really good food that travels well. I have never been unhappy with Caminero's. It's not much to look at, it is pretty small but looks really clean. Here's to many more years of excellent Mexican food!

Food: 4 stars - We ordered the Carne Asada Burrito, 3 mini tacos a la carte (2x carne asada and 1x al pastor), and a grilled chicken cheese quesadilla, along with a side of rice and beans. Overall, costed us close to $50 but was plenty of food for the preggo wife, our 19-month old and myself. The carne asada burrito comes with carne asada, beans, pico de gallo and guacamole. For $13, I would say it was decently portioned. Before the crazy inflation and shrink-gate, it would probably be a $7-$8 burrito, but at the new, inflated price-point, I wouldn't say it was generously portioned. The mini tacos were decently portioned as well with double corn tortillas for each taco. The al pastor taco was actually generously portioned and my wife was able to make 2x mini tacos with it by splitting the 2nd tortilla. The chicken and cheese quesadilla was a good size, and came with sour cream, guacamole and pico salsa. The tortilla was nicely crisped and had a good amount of cheese for a nice cheese pull from the initial bite. They offer 3 different kinds of salsa - pico, green and a roasted/spicy salsa. The only reason I am giving not giving a 5-star for food is because of their portion size to price-point and the pico salsa which is not necessarily watered down but the flavor is pretty basic. 5-stars for food are reserved for the best of the best. Service: 5 stars - We came in around 7:30pm on a Thursday night and they close at 8pm. There was only one other person ahead of us and nobody dining inside. There was one worker, wiping down tables and resetting the dining area and one at the counter. The worker at the counter was polite and friendly. I told him it was our first time here and he was patient and offered recommendations. We ordered for to-go as we did not want to be the last customers holding up their closing time (although we initially wanted to dine-in). We waited maybe 10-15 minutes after ordering our food and they threw in some chips and salsa for us as well. That was a nice gesture! Ambiance: 3 stars - The inside has an old, authentic Mexican vibe to it with painted murals on both sides of their walls and old, tile roofing above their drink station. They also have a bunch of their awards and accolades hanging on the wall closer to their ordering counter. Their digital menus are displayed on 3 overhanging TVs which is a nice, modern option. It's a small, fast-casual spot that I can see get crowded during a busy dinner rush. Overall, pretty small, basic dining area with a self-serve drink station and then the ordering counter. There's a couple small TVs for viewing pleasure as well, but there's definitely room for improvement with their overall space. Overall: 4 stars! I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for authentic style Mexican food. Most other spots are more of a Tex-Mex or Americanized Mexican food, but Caminero hit the spot for us (food/flavor-wise). We will definitely be back to try other items.

Excellent as always. Nice staff. Clean. Good price point. They do a lot of phone to go orders.

We love this place! Food tastes authentic and is so good!! The service is fast and the restaurant is clean. Each time I eat here, there seems to be a steady stream of customers either dining in or picking up to go orders.

The first thing you should know is that there are no public restrooms here. I decided to order carne asada nachos and a breakfast burrito with Mexican style eggs. The portions are portentous and delicious. I almost couldn't finish the nachos. The burrito I ate the next day and was disappointed to find onions in it even though they knew that I didn't want onions in my food. Overall, great bang for your buck. I also didn't like their house salsas as I felt they didn't taste so great.

On the hunt for a new Mexican take out restaurant today and I opted for Caminero's. Super convenient location in Peoria on Deer Valley x 83rd. Lots of ample parking in the strip mall where they're located. Super clean entryway. I was greeted immediately when I walked in. The woman behind the counter was so friendly and so accommodating! I went with the California burrito and ordered it to go. $9.99. SOLD! to the lovely Yelp'er! (me) My order was up in no time. I raced home and it was as piping hot as could be. I got a couple of hot salsa containers included, but enough about these details. Let's chat about this burrito. The flour tortilla was incredibly fresh. It's a sizeable burrito. It's respectable. It's not that fake Chipotle / Double-D sized burrito. But you're going to be full without being miserable. It was chock full of beans + cheese + avocado and the meat of your choice. I went with carnitas. There was so much cheese and beans and avocado. I was so damn excited, you guys. The pork? OMG. It was tender and shredded and flavorful. The hot salsa was spicy without being overbearing. Very flavorful that added just the right amount of spice to my burrito. This was honestly the best and least expensive meal I've had after work on a Friday in a long time. This will most definitely be a new favorite and regular spot for me. Let's be honest. There are a lot of really good Mexican restaurants here in the Valley. There are a also just as many Mexican restaurants serving food that just isn't great. Caminero's is one I will highly, highly recommend to family, friends and fellow Yelp'ers!

Good food.. hole in the wall place but don't expect hole in the wall prices as prices are comparable to a nice sit down restaurant.

Put your name in at reception and you were taken back usually after a small weight. We didn't have to wait yesterday. The servers are really friendly and checked on a frequently refilling hubs soda a few times without him having to ask. Our waitress also brought us an extra bowl of spicy salsa because she saw we had eaten all of it. Just brought us another basket of hot and chips. On our first visit, I got enchiladas and instead of rice and on the side I decided to choose their potatoes. The potatoes are so delicious. I love them, and I will look forward to these again when we return. Today we ordered: - Coke - Diet Coke (no Coke Zero here) - NACHOS GRANDE - Tortilla chips, cheddar & Monterey Jack cheese, sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo, jalapeños. Choose seasoned ground beef, slow-roasted chicken or refried beans, or for an extra dollar, substitute fire-grilled steak or chicken fajita. I chose the chicken fajita protein topping. I ordered this for an entrée, but it would be a really good appetizer for 3 to 6 people. It's almost like cheese crisps, halved, with lots of melted cheese and a small amount of meat on each tortilla half. In the center there are toppings. I enjoyed the pickled jalapeños because they weren't extra hot. This hit my comfort food spot. I wasn't able to eat the whole thing so it was so big, but it was exactly what I was looking for. - THE GRANDE COMBINATION - Beef, chicken, cheese enchiladas, cheese chile relleno, tamale, crispy beef taco, guacamole. This combination is HUGE! Even the plate is grande. Absorbed this, and I think his eyes were larger than his stomach. He filled up on the beans and the rice, the chile relleno, and the taco. He got to take three enchiladas and a tamale for dinner the next night. A very nice tasty plate. Complementary chips and three types of salsa are brought to the table. Of the salsas, one is a red sauce that is mild, one is a pineapple tomatillo, and one is a spicier red salsa. The chips are nice and fresh and thin and brought to the table warm. Men's and women's restroom near the entrance for customers.

When requesting a table she stated there were only 2 servers and that the tables were not in their "section" which was only 4 feet from the booths! Stupidity at epic levels! We turned around and left after wasting 10 minutes. Eat at Firebirds across the street for better food, service and a hostess with brains!

The restaurant was about half-full and bustling brightly indoors and on the deep shaded wrap-around patio. Our server, Branden, was one of the best servers we've ever had! Attentive and polite, even reading off the entire menu and describing highlights to hubs, who'd never been before. We were seated immediately at a booth table and brought complimentary chips and salsa. These are good fresh, thin chips and smoky mild-hot tasty salsa. Branden brought us a second round of chips and salsa as well. We ordered: - Coca-Cola fountain drink - Coke Zero fountain drink - SHORT RIB MACHACA ENCHILADAS 5/5 - Highly recommend - caramelized peppers & onions, yellow cheese, ancho chile sauce, cilantro. Served with sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo, rice, & choice of beans. Classic enchilada sauce like how I remember, delicious tender shredded marinated short rib inside. - CARNE ASADA FAJITAS 4/5 (sweet soy salsa verde) served with blistered peppers, charred onions, jack cheese, guacamole, salsa fresca, sour cream, choice of beans & tortillas. Hubs said these were good. He did want rice with his meal so he ended up taking my rice which I didn't want. As you can see in the pics, the tortillas are scratch made in-house as well as the sauces and sides. Bar seating, booth and table, and patio seating available.
