Haven't been here in a while, so we were by there for lunch, and having been there a few times, and food always was good, so we were looking forward to a good lunch. WOW what we got was a real surprise, I had a tasteless burrito, which was dripping in flavor less salsa. My friend had 2 tacos, they were an open faced mess, also, as my friend stated "these taste like sh$t". Now, I don't know what shit tastes like, but he threw them away after 2 bites. That leaves the plain tasting rice, it also was flavorless, and adding Salsa from the salsa bar was a waste, as there salsas also were awful. Since 2011 I've been searching for a very authentic homestyle Mexican restaurant. I finally found it today when I took my mom to lunch. We both had the chili Relleno with the rice and beans and I added some Asada to mine. The rice and beans were perfect and so flavorful.. The service was warm and friendly, and the decor was colorful, bright and clean.. mom and I will definitely put this place in our rotation when we feel like having delicious Mexican food. September 2025 Run away as fast as you can. Do not eat here. Dirty, unfriendly, and the food was inedible. Man working the counter is the same man who brought the food out. Acted as if he was doing everyone a favor. Didn't even say hello, kiss my a$$... nothing. Food was cold and unrecognizable. What a waste. Couldn't even eat what was served. Now I know why they make you pay at the counter in advance. When I asked for refund, they refused even though no one could eat the food. Just bad. No other customers were there the entire time we were there. I have no idea how it stays in business. Place is probably a money laundering scam. 2 stars for cleanliness and ambience. Highly recommended to try, highly disappointed I did try. That had to be kne of the worst tortillas I ever ate in my life. Almost like a spoiled rotten taste and after taste. The beans had a hint of a burnt flavor. My friend described it as a dishwasher taste. I will definitely not be returning to this establishment. This place is a hole in the wall in a strip mall. It doesn't look like much outside but it belies the delicious Mexican fare from the kitchen. The inside is a throwback in time with tulip and rose patterned vinyl chairs, circa 1960. I almost expected the food to be served on vintage Melmac. Everyone orders at the counter, finds their own seats and then waits until the delicious smells waft from the kitchen. We both ordered the chicken chimichanga. When it arrived, it was HHUUGGEEEE. Wow! It was the largest chimi I have ever seen (and I've seen a lot). It was stuffed to the max with tender, moist chicken, beans and cheese and fried to a beautiful golden crispy brown with guacamole, sour cream and cheese on top. There is also a small salsa bar. Mexican paraphernalia decorates the walls while neon signs in the windows advertise Miller Lite, Modelo and Miller Genuine Draft beers. I've been to all the other Mexican food restaurants in the area. I decided to try this place for the first time because of the great things I've read about Don Jose's. I also hold a warm place in my heart for small family owned business's. As soon as I walked in the place, I felt the most comfortable atmosphere. Decorated beautifully. I was welcomed by the most humble man behind the counter. He was very patient with me taking my order. I didn't know how extensive their menu was, and didn't think to look at beforehand! After giving him my order, he even threw in a desert snack for me! I soon after saw a pin behind the counter that resembled his dedicated time of service to our country. I put two and two together and realized this was America's best-- running this restaurant. The cheese enchiladas were like the ones I remember having in Guadalajara. The cheese is delicious with the perfect spicy/ tangy red sauce. The Chile relleno was out of this world & the batter around the chili was so much more flavorful and better textured than the ones I've been used to. Hands down best hole in the wall mexican food. Their el pastor tacos are the best i've had. In addition, the owner made a special, request only, spicy sauce.
