This is an order-at-the-counter breakfast and brunch restaurant. The food was good but nothing outstanding. I was truly surprised when ordering to be told that they automatically add a 20% gratuity to the bill "to be shared among their staff ". So that means that aside from the profit from sales, customers are also subsidizing the employee salaries??? I prefer to leave a tip appropriate to the service AFTER the meal rather than be railroaded into paying something unreasonable up front. We were traveling so unlikely we would go there again, but I thought other customers should be aware. read more

Very disappointing. I had met the chef a couple weeks ago and had great hopes of a new really good restaurant. My niece and I went in had to see their selves. It took the girl 15 minutes to come and ask us about drinks. Asked for a cuppa coffee and a water with no ice. After another 12 minutes, we finally got the cuppa coffee. We never did get our water. The minions are a part of them. They change constantly and part of them are set, but they don't tell you all of the ingredient dish so as my food, I am allergic to onions and my niece doesn't like onions. It said nothing on the menu about onions being on our breakfast. I ordered an omelette with country fries and my niece ordered chicken fried steak. When they came out, they had just been covered with sliced onions absolutely horrible. We sat for quite a while, waiting for the waitress to come by. She shows up and ask us what was and we explained to her that I was allergic to onions. My niece didn't like them and they didn't put them on the menu so we didn't know they were on there. She asked if we would like her to scrape the onions off. No we did not want her to scrape the onions off. We wanted meals with no on it to begin with. But that wasn't good enough we asked numerous times for a refill on our coffee and the girl would not bring us refills. Ask another waitress from the other side of the room and after about another 15 minutes, we finally got one refill. Sadly, this is not an improvement. And sadly, it is not a good restaurant and sadly, this is some Denver rights who trying to push their Denver liberal attitudes off on us. So we'll be going back to our stomping grounds and won't give these people anymore of our money. read more

Ordered the Chili Rellano Plate for brunch this am. Waitress brought plate with a serving of beef cubes in red chili sauce, fried potatoes, scrambled eggs, refried beans & a tortilla. When I told her politely that I'd received the wrong order, she said, "No, this is how we make chili rellanos here. You're supposed to wrap the meat in the tortilla & that's our way of making chili rellanos." Went downhill from there. No follow up til time for bill. At very end of meal, she said she was sorry I was disappointed in my meal - which I was b/c it was cold & meat was full of fat & gristle & basically inedible - I again attempted politely to explain I thought there'd been a mistake. She then explained she'd entered my order correctly, she was sure, and that the computer translated my order to their Red Chili Beef entree. And that, she stated, is how she knew I'd gotten the correct order. No contact from manager, no attempt to straighten out what was obviously a misunderstanding or error. While Camilla's used to be a favorite in our family when Camilla sold the atmosphere and service just got to a point where I won't be returning. The last time I made a visit to Camilla's there was this guy standing around in a white chef coat? At first I thought he was another customer but I soon realized that he was the new owner, He just looked so out of place and like he didn't even have a clue about what was going on? All of the employees there look so tired out, when Camilla was there it was just such a fun place to be at the music was upbeat and Camilla and her crew where all just having a good time. When the new owner took over, it's like they flipped a switch. The crew just got quiet and it seems like they stopped enjoying themselves. The last time I was there there wasn't even any music playing and just kind of killed the mood The new owner is very out of place in Fruita, not even to mention that the new owner was planning on taking away some of my favorite dishes at Camila's. This place automatically adds a 20% service charge to every single order, and you don't know about it until they ring it up. In other words, the prices on the menu are a lie. Adding insult to injury, after we had placed our order, paid for it and then and were seated waiting for it, only then did they come out and tell us that the soup that we had ordered and paid for wasn't available that day. The server delivered a turkey sandwich instead of the Reuben I'd ordered. When I discovered the mistake, I took it back inside and they handed me my correct order (no doubt after it had already visited another table). When we placed our order, we were asked if we wanted any hot sauce. My girlfriend said yes and was offered two choices. She chose the Cholula. No sign of it five minutes after the food arrived, so I went in and asked for it. By this time, a different woman than the one who took our order was behind the counter. She very rudely informed me that they didn't have anything called Cholula sauce. When I said "hot sauce" she grabbed three packets of - you guessed it - clearly labeled Cholula sauce, threw them down on the counter and went off in a huff. The food was adequate but nothing special. The Reuben was so soggy I had to eat it with a knife and fork. I assume the 20% mandatory tip is now added to every order because so many customers responded to the poor service by not tipping. I went here the other day with my fiancé in hopes to have a nice beautiful Sunday brunch. My bride to be was gleaming with joy as she gazed up & down the menu eager to jump head first into an bowl of scrambled eggs (her favorite). When it came time to order the cashier gave us one look & proceeded to laugh under her breath. I asked him if everything was okay & she proceeded to make fun of the clothing my fiancé was wearing. I was immediately taken a back. She said "who would wear THOSE shoes with THOSE pants" (hinting at the crocs i had just bought her for her birthday the other day) At first I thought he was just playing around but he decided to take out his phone & make a tik tok about how ugly my fiancés shoes were. she started to sob.. Stopped in Fruita to grab some beer and food on Monday. The guy at Suds brewery told us "you have to go to Camilla's but they're closed for dinner." We thought sure we might stop sometime, later that evening a guy at the dragon restaurant told us "you have to stop at Camilla's but they're closed for dinner." Came back through Fruita on Wednesday to get more beer because apparently a 24 pack isn't enough, damn good beer ha ha ha. Stopped in to Camilla's and met Val, she told us the special which was some queso burger and I thought I'll have that in the middle of ordering she said "you know you really should try the French dip" and I said "I'll stick with queso burger" and she said "seriously try the French dip" and I said "OK let's add the Parmesan crusted jalapeño bread and bacon" she said "OK" My buddy ordered the Navajo taco with shredded beef and a side of clam chowder we added some bacon, I think we blew Val's mind. When our food came out she blew ours. The French dip infused bacon Parmesan jalapeño sandwich tasted as if the bacon and shredded beef gods invited you to a protein party in my mouth. The meat was tender the bread was crispy and the Au jus was saucy. My side was the route 66 french fries and there was nothing French about them smothered in Chile Verde, bacon, cheese, green onions and sour cream. The Navajo taco is not something I would normally order... Order this one. The Indian fry bread was crispy, crunchy and smothered in shredded beef, cheese, bacon, chili Verde, protein, green onions and meat. Perfectly paired with clam chowder smothered in bacon, it was Rich, it was full and it gave me the meat sweats. In case you couldn't tell by now we added bacon to everything that doesn't normally come on, make sure to do that. Overall, if you're in Fruita for breakfast or lunch... forget about Tapatio's, Suds breweries and the dragon place. Go to Camilla's, it is truly the gem of Fruita. I dined at Camilla's for breakfast. It was not terribly busy but the wait for service and food seemed to take longer than it should have. That being said, the server was excellent and the food also excellent. I had the chili relleno breakfast and boy was it delicious. The eggs were perfectly over medium as I requested, the rellenos crispy and cheesy good, and the homemade green chili sooo tasty. A homemade tortilla would have put me over the moon. As delicious as this meal was, my meal after coffee and tip was almost $19...for ONE person. Yowza! Pretty pricey. For that price I would expect the overall ambiance of the cafe to be better--cleaner and more comfortable. Those rellenos will be calling my name, I know, but they'll have to wait for my pocketbook to replenish in funds. read more

We took my dad here for lunch while we were over visiting from Denver. I had been here for breakfast many years ago, but we wanted to give it a try for lunch. We were not disappointed. The food is very good. Every person in our party said theirs was great and i couldn't agree more. It appears that they have done away with table service which is a bit of a bummer, but that would be the only negative we experienced. The green chili was tasty with a hint of heat and the hotcake was delicious with a soft interior and a crispy exterior and it was HUGE! I grew up near here and this has always been my favorite spot for breakfast or lunch in Fruita. They have the best green Chile I've ever had. Do yourself a favor and get the Chile rellenos (for breakfast or lunch) - when I was pregnant my husband drive through and picked them up for me and drove them over 10 hours so I could satisfy my craving. We stopped here to get a bite to eat while visiting family...me thinks the owner or the person who at least named the dishes is a New Mexican transplant...I say that cuz some of the food is suspiciously named after things/towns etc in NM. I had the chile relleno and it was excellent...a little different presentation I think there may have been onions inside the chile relleno batter...I think...it was very good and I brought half the meal home...so if I get a chance to eat here again I will for sure...great food and decent prices...oh and the staff was GREAT as well. So this review was for yesterday at lunch and we came back today....cuz why not...it's close to our family and food is good. Taking advantage of their patrons I am a local to the area and this restaurant. While Camilla's used to be one of our favorites, when they changed from a restaurant with waitstaff that came to your table to a stand in line to order at a counter and then seat yourself restaurant where they would bring your food to the table when it is ready and then add a surcharge of 20% for doing so, we stopped being patrons of this restaurant. However they have a great pumpkin chai tea and I would still treat myself to a dirty pumpkin chai tea a few times during the fall season. Last year the dirty pumpkin chai tea was between $5 and $6, pretty standard for a "coffee drink" these days. However, when I treated myself to the dirty pumpkin chai yesterday the price was $8.00! for a small! When I looked at my receipt there was an extra charge for the "dirty" part and a 50 cent charge for whipped cream! This is a tiny squirt of whipped cream in a "to go" cup. Outrageous, in my opinion. They asked me if I would like whipped cream, pretty standard question, but they did not tell me it would cost 50 cents. I (we) will no longer give this restaurant my/our business. They just keep taking advantage of their patrons, so I guess I/we will not be patrons anymore. read more
