    Sticky rice dumpling (糯米鸡)
    Linda L.

Best dim sum in KW region. Like seriously, some of their dishes are really good, some are even better than the dim sum in Toronto. Environment The restaurant is located in downtown Kitchener, but the store front is a little hard to find due to the construction. There's free parking around the restaurant. Now don't get turned off by what you see from the outside, even though the building does seem pretty run down from the outside, the interior is actually nicely renovated. However, the restaurant is really small, and thus really noisy. Food The menu was very limited compared to large Toronto dim dim restaurants, but they do feature the typical dim sum dishes. Some of the dishes that I liked includes the egg yolk buns, steamed rice roll with BBQ pork, and chicken feet. I think the steamed rice roll was better than many Toronto dim sum restaurants that I tried, because it's very hard to make the rice skin really thin and smooth. They didn't put the price on the ordering sheet, so when we got the bill it was a bit of a surprise. Oh and splitting the bill will be 20% extra. Service I think they are a little under staffed, so sometimes it was frustrating to call for the server. I wish they could have included the price of the dishes on the menu, hence the one point deduction from the rating. But overall this is a good restaurant for dim sum in the KW region.

No price was printed on the menu anywhere (had to ask). Note at the bottom they charge 20% for separate bills, and hot sauce is extra too

The food was excellent. Very tasty but a bit too greasy for me (oh the heartburn afterwards!) However they had many rules which I find quite unreasonable -the price is not written on the menu (which is rare in other dim sum places). I had to ask the waitress to write it down so we have a rough idea of how much to expect on the bill -tea is $1.75 extra (also not common practice. It is usually free) -they charge 20% extra for separate bills?! Like who does that? -$10 minimum order -only three options for tips: 15%, 20% or 25%. (For what? For dropping food off at my table? There was minimal table service the whole time) -even hot sauce is an extra $0.5?! I think this is why I'm much more willing to travel to places like Toronto every once in a while just for the food, and also because the price will be right without annoying extra charges everywhere

I'm from NY and the Chinese food here was as good as it gets outside of NY's Chinatown. Authentic tasting food with friendly service.

Best Chinese food in the region, hands down. Quite pricey, but I do think the food is worth it. Always come here with my family.

Ordered: Har gow (shrimp dumplings) Good size, 4 in an order. Average. Shrimp were flavorful. The skin fell apart quite badly even after a cooling period. If you don't know, crystal skins on dumplings bream quicker if you try to grab them straight out of the steamer. We had about 20 min from take out pick up for it to rest and it still broke a part.... Siu mai Pork and beef dumplings were a good size, again 4 in an order. Preferred the beef over the pork. The beef siu mai tasted like a regular dimsum beef ball. No crunchy water chestnut textures though that you usually find. The pork tasted very porky - I wouldn't order this again from here. Lotus leaf glutinous rice with chicken 2 in an order The pork and mushroom mixture in between the rice was very minimal. The flavour was lacking. I thought the rice was the better part of the rice dumpling ; others thought that the meat part was better. Not the biggest fan. Szechuan green paper / eggplant with shrimp paste So the sauce is on point. Nice soy and black bean sauce; not spicy at all. The shrimp paste is your typical shrimp fish ball flavour. It was fried really well. The surprise this time was the Glutinous dumpling with Pork. Fried nicely. The filling was a good balance of salt and sweet. The outside was sweet and sticky. Overall, it was an ok dim sum place. The pick up was fast. The food was hot. Very limited dim sum menu.

We moved to BC 20 years ago and prior to that were frequent customers for 25 years. The city never paid any attention to the businesses while approving the extensive road construction. Since our recent return we see London is a city in utter DECAY and will never return to its original form. Downtown Dundas street is diseased so no one wants to go there. Forget about new Dim Sum restaurants opening as that will NEVER happen. We are sorry to come back to garbage dump. We wish Connie & Peter the best & a long life is retirement. They are also always very consistent with the quality of Dim Sum they offer and affordable pricing. The other places usually sacrifice one for the other but Tak Sun checks off all the boxes for perfect Dim Sum. *Recommendations* Things to order but not limited to: chive kaw, shrimp har kaw, tak sun special bun. Other Dim Sum regulars: bbq pork bun, spare ribs, pork siu mai etc. *Atmosphere* It's got an old Chinese restaurant feel to it. Decor definitely has a 90s feel to it and I don't mind it at all because for those that grew up going to Chinese restaurants with this type of decor can associate it with many good memories. *conclusion* If you are looking for quality Dim Sum in London, look no further this is your spot. If you've had Dim Sum in Toronto or the GTA, this place would be the equivalent to those places but cheaper. As for the regular menu I cannot say much as I've not had enough on it to make an adequate review. From what I have eatin though (like the Cantonese style sweet & sour pork) it's amazing. A follow up review will be made regarding the regular menu. Oh ya the service is awesome, if you get the lady she is really funny and recommends dishes that are tasty. The young man is helpful as well if you get him, they are both fantastic at explaining the dishes. I've attached the Dim Sum menu*

Ok, so I rarely write reviews. I find them a bit of a waste of time, and I'm firmly against writing…read moreone if you dislike the restaurant. Hence why we're here. Well, at first I was a bit on the fence about ordering cause of the vegetarian/vegan menu, I like my meat, love meat, got to have my protein dammit! But wow! was I ever surprised and happy about following my gut and choosing to go there. You see, I'm from Vancouver, and if you know a bit about my hometown is that you know we have a very large asian population. Heck, I'd even go as far as saying it's my second language, (my first language is English and my parents are Chilean...never spoken a word of it) but I've been around it so much somehow, I feel I could get by given the chance. So, by examining the pictures from the online menu, I thought to myself; If the food is anything remotely like the pictures, it looks exactly like my fav spot in Vancouver - Congee Noodle King- also a must try if you're in east Vancouver. Just trust my absent Asian ancestry ok?! I ordered the N65. Fried Noodles with Steamed and Stir-Fried Bean Curd, and as a request asked them to make it spicy to which they happily and kindly obliged. This dish was packed with flavour. Oh em gee! Loaded with fresh crunchy veggies, the noodles were spot on: thin, velvety and a lot of them. Makes for some healthy slurps! Oh, did I mention the meat? No, I didn't, because it didn't have any, and I have never not missed something so much. The crispy fried bean curds tasted like deep fried spare ribs. My pupils dilated a bit. And that's ok cause I went into a food coma, got to heaven and wrote a review about the very first Asian restaurant I try in Toronto and I'm already planning to go back. If you give this place less than 5 stars you don't know food, Asian food or how to speak it so go on and chew on some meat! Thank you for the wonderful and friendly service as well. I shall return. How do you say that in Mandarin? Cheers! - Patricio

One thing to note also was that the employees just seemed miserable. It is a nice local spot to get your Chinese food cravings fixed. Their menu seems to be the same for all locations, the only difference being the price, all locations potentially the same other than the downtown location. See their website: https://www.congeequeen.com/menu.php and select your location. It has been a while since we have eaten at the Congee Queen outside of the Toronto (Dundas/Yonge) location, so we were a bit surprised at the price difference (8-10% difference). This location (Heartland Town Center) feels like it has the right price for the menu. With cash, you also get a 10% discount. We were here on a Wednesday for an early dinner around 15:30 - 17:00 and it was about medium full for the main area. People were coming and going at a good pace. For our group of four, we ordered: - B3 Salmon Congee $11 ($12 downtown) - H11 Chicken Salted Fish Fried Rice $18.25 ($19.75 downtown) - K34 Fried Bean Curd with Veggie $19.50 ($21.50 downtown) - K42 Salt and Pepper Squid $16.50 ($18.25 downtown) - K53 Fried Chili Turnip Cakes $13.75 ($15.00 downtown) Service was a bit slow, but not the longest as there were only 2-3 staff taking orders that day for about 15-20 tables. If you signaled for assistance, they will come. Once ordered thought, the food came out in about 5 mins and all the dishes were ready soon after. Tea is refilled on request, just ask. As usual, the fried rice and congee is what they are known for, it was excellent as usual. Depending on the group you go with, YMMV, but for our order combination, this usually works comes out at the same time and everything is hot and tasty. The turnip cakes are the softer type and they even accommodated checking for shrimp. They are usually good about seafood checks. All in all, great experience. With the discount and tips all in, it was less than $100 total at $25 per person. It has been a while since we've eaten out with a group at that price point. Will keep in mind to meetup at any of the non downtown locations in future.
