Take Sun was the best Dim Sum in London. Their Cantonese dishes were superb. Connie & Peter decided to retire pursuant to COVID & the road construction ergo, the restaurant is now closed. We moved to BC 20 years ago and prior to that were frequent customers for 25 years. The city never paid any attention to the businesses while approving the extensive road construction. Since our recent return we see London is a city in utter DECAY and will never return to its original form. Downtown Dundas street is diseased so no one wants to go there. Forget about new Dim Sum restaurants opening as that will NEVER happen. We are sorry to come back to garbage dump. We wish Connie & Peter the best & a long life is retirement. Best Dim Sum in London (Hong ping coming in at second place). The reason why this place takes over Hong Ping is because they offer all day Dim Sum. They are also always very consistent with the quality of Dim Sum they offer and affordable pricing. The other places usually sacrifice one for the other but Tak Sun checks off all the boxes for perfect Dim Sum. *Recommendations* Things to order but not limited to: chive kaw, shrimp har kaw, tak sun special bun. Other Dim Sum regulars: bbq pork bun, spare ribs, pork siu mai etc. *Atmosphere* It's got an old Chinese restaurant feel to it. Decor definitely has a 90s feel to it and I don't mind it at all because for those that grew up going to Chinese restaurants with this type of decor can associate it with many good memories. *conclusion* If you are looking for quality Dim Sum in London, look no further this is your spot. If you've had Dim Sum in Toronto or the GTA, this place would be the equivalent to those places but cheaper. As for the regular menu I cannot say much as I've not had enough on it to make an adequate review. From what I have eatin though (like the Cantonese style sweet & sour pork) it's amazing. A follow up review will be made regarding the regular menu. Oh ya the service is awesome, if you get the lady she is really funny and recommends dishes that are tasty. I visited here on a Tuesday evening right around dinner time. It was odd the there was no customers inside the restaurant even though it was dinner time. I decided to come here after my favourite dim sum restaurant closed in London. I read a lot of good reviews and decided to give this place a shot. When I was given the menu I thought "This place is so cheap, maybe it'll be a new favourite", that thought quickly vanished after the experiencing the owners rude attitude. The menu items were very limited, they lacked many items you find available at other dim sum places. I handed the owner my order with tickmarks of items I want. Without a second look at the order the owner told me to use the white spaces to indicate my order and immediately walked away. That really annoyed me, as I said there are no other customers so the owner didn't have to be so impatient with new customers. Now, let's talk about food. I personally love dim sum. I'm not Cantonese, so I don't eat dim sum on a weekly basis. That being said, I've had my fair share of dim sum. Most of the dim sum I've had in london falls in the average category, but I have never had dim sum this awful. The peel of the hargow was this weird consistency, as soon as you touches it broke, the peel should be tender and chewy and these were dry and had a very odd consistency. The same comment can be said about a couple of their dumpling dishes. The food was greasy and not very flavorful. After I left the restaurant I drank a lot of water, so the food most likely was filled with MSG. It's safe to say I will not be coming back to the place again. Who knows if anyone reads reviews for restaurants in London on here? But if you're looking for dim sum in this town, this is the place to go. In fact, I'd even suggest making the trip if you have a craving. I've had dimsum all over, and this is in fact my favourite. You order from a card, and you can have a great meal for little cash. Har gow are fantastic, as are siu mai, and pretty much every dumpling. BBQ pork buns are also great, but the standout is the coconut custard steamed bun. The filling oozes out when you bite into them ... once you have these you will be forever disappointed by the dry gaggy things you get at most dim sum places! They are to soft boiled eggs what regular custard buns are to hard-boiled. I've never eaten anything but dim sum and fried noodles here, so I can't comment on the more generic chinese food offerings. But for dim sum this is by far the best. And noodles are solid as well. read more

The other people do not know what they're talking about. I have been eating Chinese food for all my life and I know the difference between good dim sum and cheap microwaved dim sum. This is by far one of the worse restaurants I've been to in London. The dim sim is even worse then the microwaveable ones. Not worth you time or money. This place is terrible. The dim sum here is poor. I am a true lover of the siu mai. To me, the siu mai is almost like pizza, it can't taste bad- bad siu mais are still a food I want to binge eat. However, this place might be the exception. The siu mais here are not good. I've had a better experience eating airplane siu mais! The food here is incredibly greasy (in a bad way) and the service is poor. The waiter was slow and seemed more interested in explaining their food to other customers (probably knowing that his bullshit could never get past an Asian). I would also like to point out that my meal here, although lackluster throughout, was definitely ruined by the soy sauce they provided. When I requested soy sauce, they gave me black industrial grade paint thinner than destroyed any flavour from the food I used with it. That is unforgivable. How can an Asian restaurant provide bad soy sauce? This was just completely disgraceful and something I will never forget. An Asian restaurant with bad soy sauce does not deserve the privilege of sharing their food with others. In essence, this restaurant serves mediocore-poor grade food and uses the absolute worst soy sauce ever. If they provided good soy sauce, I may have been tempted to give them a 2 star rating, but I am amazed that they get any business at all. I will never forgive this restaurant for their butchery of dim sum and I was/am truly insulted that they attempted to give whatever it was that they tried to pass off as soy sauce. We visited Tak Sun on Wellington Road in London today for dim sum. The reviews we read on various sites were mixed from "the worst" to "the best" so we thought we should check it out for ourselves. The interior of the restaurant is typical of a Canadian Chinese restaurant although it was a bit on the dark side. It's a smallish place with seating for 30-40 people. The food was not very good. Before moving to London we frequented King Tin in Waterloo. Although their quality was inconsistent, at their worst it was better than what we ate today. Curried "Squid" turned out to be curried octopus (which I am NOT a fan of). They were cooked ok but the sauce was watery and had only a slight curry flavour. The sticky rice was definitely sticky - it was seriously over-steamed to the point that it became a gummy mess with little flavour. The sausage they use in it doesn't add much flavour to the rice. We ordered a two servings of radish cake (one of my favourites). Once again it was over-steamed to the point of gumminess and it was not fried enough to give it any crispy texture. The pork shu mei was ok and the shrimp har gow was actually good - they were steamed perfectly so that the dumpling didn't disintegrate as soon as you touched them with chopsticks (something King Tin always had a problem with). Some of the little things were also not good. We typically use a lot of chili sauce - we had to ask for it (I always thought it was the "default" for it to be brought to the table) and when it arrived it was in tiny little bowls that were empty very quickly. And the soy sauce on the table is that thick type that almost tastes like molasses. If this is the best that London has to offer for dim sum then we will have to travel to get our dim sum fix because we will not be returning to Tak Sun. read more

The dim sum is not bad...it appears to be fresh and what we had was hot and steaming...it's well priced but they have too many tables for such a small space. If that was jasmine tea...I need to file a complaint. I guess I was expecting too much... read more

Sure, they're one of the few (if not the only) restaurants in town that serve all day dim sum, but it's really not that great. I've had dim-sum all over the country and this was edible, but not great. read more

I've been going for dinner and dim sum for years - always delicious! Wonderful chicken and shimp har go (sp?) are my favourites.

9/17/16 12:10 pm. Was hoping for a traditional Chinese cuisine (Hong Kong or mainland style). First item ordered - Sticky Rice with Leaf, good size initially looked and tasted good until I started picking pieces of ground bone out of the rice. 2nd - Shrimp Har Kaw, tiny shrimp and not deveined. 3rd - Pork Sui Mai, lots of grisel and fat. 4th - Crispy Crullers in Rice Roll, should be Crunchy Crullers in Rice Roll. Cruller was definitely a day or two old, and the sauce given to pour or dip in was too dark and had a burnt taste. 5th - B.B.Q. Pork Bun, looked good until you opened it up. Definitely not traditional, again burnt taste. 6th - Sweet Egg Tart, was made with puffed pastry (again not traditional). Very oily the first layer of the puffed pastry was burnt. Ordered the Radish Cake also, but it never made it to the table. Was given a discount for their 37th anniversary but if they keep serving food of the same caliber as I received, they won't be around for much longer. My opinions on the taste and quality of the food are based on having a Chinese grandmother (yup, I'm 1/4 Hong Kong Chinese), been eating traditional Chinese food since I was eight years old, have lived in Vancouver, Toronto and four years in Hong Kong. Unfortunately, I can't find any Chinese Dim Sum restaurant in London, Ontario that comes close to even some of the worse Dim Sum restaurants in Toronto. It's worth the drive to Markham/Richmond Hill just to get something that tastes a bit like food from a Hong Kong restaurant. read more

My friend and I have tried several dim sum restaurants and it became our favorite. Dim sum and tea are just a perfect match.

This restaurant serves first-rate dim sum. I especially love their har gau, chive gau, and pan fried dumplings. Their dinner menu is extensive with many highlights (szechuan beef, shrimp in lobster sauce, black bean beef chow ho fun, chinese broccoli, etc) although sometimes they end up a touch too sweet for my taste. But that's a minor complaint because everything is very well made. One of the best Chinese restaurants in London for sure. read more
