Compared to other dim sum restaurants in the GTA, Crystal Dynasty offers fair dim sum in terms of taste, quality, quantity and price. It's probably the best dim sum in the Hamilton region. There are several items that we usually order - shrimp steamed dumplings, steamed chives dumpling with shrimp, steamed rice noodle with shrimp, deep fried dumpling with assorted meat, pan fried bean curd, pan fried eggplant, salt and pepper deep fried eggplant, Singapore Fried Rice Noodles and Fried Noodle with Beef and Soya Sauce. The one disappointment was the steamed pork dumpling. The last time I ate there, there was a lot of gristle and parts of the dumpling were inedible. Previously, it was fine. I've had dinner there as well, but the flavours and 'wok hei' are fair and not quite up to expectations. The restaurant could use a fresh look and new carpet. Service is fair. It may be the most authentic Chinese food you'll find in Hamilton. read more

I would give this place no star if I could. Whoever said this place is the most authentic for chinese food has not had authentic chinese food. First off, service was horrendous. We sat down and no one gave us menus for the first 10 minutes until a server came and asked us if we had any. No one came to ask how the food was or if we needed anything such as a refill on our empty water glasses. The food took forever to come. First thing that came was the crab meat and fish maw soup. This soup had no flavour, the fish maw was hard and overcooked and there was micro amounts of crab meat actually in the soup and it was too watery. The fried rice was bland and greasy. The seafood phoenix nest was something I have never seen before. The nest was not made from taro which is a huge disappointment. It was made from vermicelli noodle. It was filled with huge chunks of celery and carrot. There was squid, shrimp and one scallop and snap peas. This dish was $16.00. I will not be going back here. read more

Poor service. Waiters demanding tips on several occasions. The waiters seem so unhappy and rude to customers. This place use to be our go to place but now we don't really go because of their staff. There are better choices in Hamilton now. Food is ok and prices have really risen. Beware they also now charge an additional $1.50/person for tea which they don't tell you about. This restaurant comes with bright red walls and carpets with black round tables scattered throughout. Washrooms looked old and floors were sticky. There are specials listed on the wall near the counter in the back, mostly in chinese. There are a couple dozen different dishes available for dimsum, with sizes split between S, M, L, XL, and XXL. Prices are ok: you're looking at about $3 to $4 per dish on average. Food comes quite slow, though at least I suppose they bring them out one or two dishes at a time in 5 minute intervals. Taste was ok. I'd like to assume they're just taking a long time to prepare the dishes, though our last dish never came and they had asked whether we wanted to continue waiting for it. When I asked whether they were in the process of making it, apparently it was not. Not sure how many dimsum places there are in the area so this might be all you've got. read more

Came here for dimsum after hiking. Once more, the food was delicious without a doubt. Service though, was slow. The restaurant was clearly understaffed, and the 3 people working there were busy cleaning tables constantly. One of them at least was apologetic about being slow. We waited a while for the last dish to arrive, to be eventually told that it would take 15 mins to cook and if we still wanted to wait for it. We also waited a long time for the bill. A local gem which delivered great service and food! We decided to have our mid autumn festival dinner at crystal palace . Remember that I am used to the delicious Richmond Hill and markham cuisine ... so the expectation was tampered We ordered seafood rice wrapped in lotus leaves which is a difficult dish to make even in the CHINESE Places in toronto We also ordered crab meat with fish Maw soup, CHINESE beef tenderloin on sIzzling plate , snow pea shoot in garlic and deep fried pickerel! Every dish was presented well and tasted amazing ! One can tell that it was prepared by a traditional trained CHINESE chef ! It is two thumbs up for the food and the rest of the fingers for the friendly and professional service! So I will say that crystal palace became my Asian go/to place in Hamilton !! read more

Delicious and very fresh! There were 6 of us so we ordered the Dinner for 6 option. The first dish was the wonton soup, which was actually individually served to us out of the main bowl by the waitress. It was also one of the best wonton soups I've ever enjoyed. The egg rolls were perfectly cooked as well as the chicken balls -- made with chunks of chicken breast and house-made cherry sauce:-) The breaded shrimp were too chewy, though, and could have been coated with a lot less batter. My fav dish was the Beef/Mushroom. The ginger didn't over power the beef, and I could have had an entire plate of just the mushrooms! The Chicken Chow Mein had a generous amount of tender chicken and great flavouring (portion size was a little lacking). The fried rice was just regular, good, seasoned fried rice. The last dish was lo mein with shrimp and veggies. This and the Beef/Mushroom stir-fry were the best dishes! They were quickly polished off and so these are 2 good dishes to order if it's your first time at the restaurant. Good service and good food read more

Last night we enjoyed take out at home with our daughter and family, tonight we are in the restaurant. Pictures of some of the dishes we had for the two of us were posted. The portions are generous so we took some uneaten portions home in provided take out containers. It is telling when the place has numerous clients of the same heritage. We consider that to be a good sign. The restaurant has cleaned up and it's far more cheery that a few years ago, so if you have not been in for a while you will be pleasantly surprised. Our servers appear to be the proprietors, they were very cheerful and answered questions we had as the menu had also been changed. We tended to choose Hong Kong style portions which were delicate in flavour and soy sauce was not recommended. They will provide soy if you so choose but try it without. The usual large lazy susans were on the large tables suitable for large groups. We saw some interesting orders going to the many large table groups. Piled high fish portions were the ones I noted. Order in, take out, or dine in - you will enjoy your meal. read more

Having grown up in the Hamilton area, I know there are not a lot of great options for Chinese food. This definitely continues to be an example of the low standards which have been set. Even under new ownership, they failed to impress. We had a group of 10 of us for lunch on a Sunday - we had to set the table ourselves. The food came incredibly slowly. We ordered a couple of dishes which we were told were sold out, only to see them on the tables of Caucasian diners later - discrimination towards your own people? Seriously? The food when it arrived was of decent quality, but much of the pork pieces were just fat! There were also some really inauthentic surprises - why would you mix sweet and sour sauce into a bird's nest?!??! Since the food is marginally better than Harvest Moon, this gets a 1.5 out of 5. The terrible service some can say is to be expected at an Asian restaurant, but the slow service and mediocre food perpetuates the low quality of Asian food in Hamilton. My advice - go to Mississauga at the very least for anything Asian. read more

Dinner for 4 (a) took around an hour to be delivered and was okay. Nothing memorable, turned out to be like mall food court Chinese. All of the orders were excellent and the portions are very generous. They do not spare gwai-lo the regular spice level. Make sure to order the garlic beef spicy or they will may bring a pedestrian beef with onion and ginger. The service is pleasant but somewhat slow. Used to be good. It took them half an hour to serve our food. During our dine in, we have to ask for water several times as the staff keeps forgetting it. We literally have to get up and go get our water. Their food is not consistent in terms of taste and quality making me unsure if I want to go back or not. read more

Best Chinese food ever!!!!! Found this little gem tucked away in the Hammer. The esthetics of the place is nothing special but neither are most of the Chinese restaurants that I frequent on Spadina in Toronto. Went for an early dinner and it wasn't busy at all so the service was good. Ordered the hot and sour soup, general tao chicken, beens and beef and finally the spicy shrimp. Everything tasted amazing! Most likely to their minimal use of salt. Theirs nothing really special to mention other then the food being extremely good. Once again, if your in the Hammer, head on over. food here is excellent and executed very well but the service is atrocious. not only are the staff not friendly or even remotely courteous they are down right rude the place is usually empty so it's not like the servers are completely overwhelmed and can't keep up..nope, they are just intentionally grumpy and unhelpful bastards!! our table asked for water - a simple request and we also asked for more tea (one pot for ten people, really?) and she signed (loudly) and rolled her eyes as if we were asking for her to move the moon for us!! This restaurant is truly a hidden gem. The plaza that the restaurant is in looks abandoned so to think of even stopping to try out this restaurant was one of the best decisions ever. This restaurant is definitely comparable if not better than a lot of dim sum places in Toronto and is my go to spot in Hamilton for dim sum. The quality of the food is amazing for the price you are paying! Although the service is not great, I would trade that any day for delicious Chinese food. My most recent visit, the food took about 15 mins to arrive but it was absolutely delicious and so fresh! All their dim sum always tastes amazing. The steamed sponge cake is as authentic as it gets. It was so moist and soft (better than most steamed sponge cakes I've had in Canada) They also don't drown their food in oil or salt which is great as many Chinese restaurants do. My husband and I had been here once before, for lunch. Tonight, we decided to take our parents out for dinner, to celebrate an early Mother's Day. The service was so horrible, the staff were so incredibly rude and we were completely embarrassed to have "treated" them to dinner at this "restaurant". I'm really not sure how they are able to continue to bring in the clientele with such poor service and wait staff on hand. People may be more concerned with how much food they can get for so little, but for us, the abominable service completely soured both the taste of the food and our overall experience. We will never give them our money again and will never be back. I know when I read a review, I like to know what was disappointing, or what someone liked, so here is a run-down of what we experienced: -when we first walked in, we were shouted at to "GO ON, take that table over there!!!" -our server quite literally threw our side dishes at us once we were seated, and my Mother-in-Law looked on in horror as hers almost landed in her lap -the table we were at was located very closely to the next large table, and the server yelled at me to "MOVE OUT OF MY WAY!" when she was trying to get through between the two tables. I was so embarrassed, that my jaw almost dropped into my sub-par Wonton Soup -the dishes all came out, one at a time, about 15 minutes apart, even though everything was ordered at the same time. Although they were all hot, they were highly covered in thick goopy sauces -generally the yelling, the "HUH?!!" when the server didn't understand what we were ordering, and the bill being literally thrown down in the middle of the table, even though we were not even finished eating was enough to horrify the four of us equally. Honestly, if you are just looking to get some just average, cheap Chinese food, this is your place, but it's nothing fancy, and the service will literally make you cringe. I have never had such bad service in all my life, without a word of a lie. I'd rather stand in line all day at the DMV than experience this type of abuse again. read more

Woah wait a minute could it be that some of the best Dim Sum I have had outside of Hong Kong could really be in Hamilton and not in Toronto or Richmond Hill? I know what you are thinking "Say it ain't so!". Take it from a guy who has eaten Dim Sum in Hong Kong, Vancouver, Calgary, Victoria at at least 25 Dim Sum restaurants around the GTA alone when I say that yes this place is easily up there in the rankings. Its got old tables, that cliche out dated gold dragon, karaoke type decor and a staff so slow and ornery that most lesser mortals would go running for the door but what the true warrior who holds their ground is treated to is a Dim Sum offering so succulent, fresh and well done that you easily forget that it takes at least 10 minutes just to get the bill. Its not fancy and the service is barely passable but the food is great and the prices are great making this place a must visit for any Dim Sum lovers in and around the Hamilton area. The Dim Sum offering is basic but so good. And don't worry about the large, dated dining room the food and the restrooms are clean. Offensive dining experience where we were blatantly ripped off by the servers who arbitrarily made up the total amount on the bill and over-wrote the prices on the menu and when asked to verify the pricing they were not interested in making it clear how a bill added up to $20 more than it should have been. My family and I have been going here since I was a kid. In recent times, the staff had been nothing but rude even coming up to my family to complain that we didn't give them enough tip. First of all, no one has to give you tip if they don't want to. If you wanted more tip, why don't you put a disclaimer in your menu that asks for a certain amount? Also, stop complaining about how you make minimum wage to a CUSTOMER. This has nothing to do with me. If you wanted a higher wage, why not to ask your boss? The fact that you guys had the audacity to come up to a customer and tell them rudely that "maybe next time, you should tip us more" is disgusting and uncalled for. If you wanted a bigger tip, maybe you should consider giving people better service. We won't be coming back here to eat ever again and have informed our friends of this awful service. You all should be ashamed of yourselves. For future, maybe consider training your employees on the best practices of customer service if you want a better tip. read more

Worst and slowest service ever. Our family went out with our grandma to this restaurant for Mother's Day and we waited over half an hour before we were able to order. After that, within the hour and a half that we were waiting for our food to come, we finished the three pots of tea that were given to us two hours ago and those were never refilled, which is usually standard for a Chinese restaurant. The waiters ignored us waving to get their attention. When we addressed our disappointment to one of the waitresses, she dismissed our concern and said everyone is waiting just as long. There was a table of Caucasians who got seated after us and they even finished their meal way before us and had already left. There were no explanations, no apologies.
