My memories of this place go back to 1998. A few mates of mine were Uraidla, Summertown and…read moreCherryville locals, so we used to frequent this pub for a bevy and a laugh. The owner Roger used to pour other people's left over beer into your glass when you weren't looking and there was often a car doing a burn-out out the front, a punch up or a band playing to keep you entertained. I even spent my 21st birthday in the front bar of the Uraidla with mates and ended up wresting each other on the oval with takeaway beers. Good times. Fast forward a lifetime and The Urey is back and kicking with a cash injection from everyone's favourite pub philanthropists: the Peter's. I haven't actually met Ed and Julie yet, but after they did up our old local - The Crafers; and now our new local - The Uraidla, I want to give them a big hug. The old mini orb bar is still in place with a new copper top, but most of the rest of the pub has been given a 2016 refurbishment. It is very mix and match with vinyl stools with chrome bases at the bar, galv plumbing pipe based laminate tables and then some nice solid timber tables and odd chairs and chesterfields. The centrepiece of the place must be the upside down table with floor lamps suspended from the main dining room ceiling as a makeshift thrift shop chandelier. Very creative. The wines include some local favourites from small wineries and the beer selection has some local crafties such as bierhaus, mismatch, prancing pony and prirate life alongside classics like coopers, west end and southwark. I'm going to see if I can get them to put some brew boys, big shed or little bang on tap. I'll keep you posted. As far as the food goes, I have tried a schnitzel with mushroom sauce and found it to be quite good, though very slightly overdone and a bit on the small side. My second meal was crumbed fish and chips and they were cooked very well and came with tartare sauce and lemon so I was chuffed. The main draw for this place though is the great historic hills pub history atmosphere. It oozes from every beam and stone in this building that dates back to the 1860's. The three fireplaces, the art deco entry and the quirky decorative elements such as the pressed tin ceiling to the ¾ keg urinals all make this place fun and cozy. Well done to everyone involved from the Peters to Advance Building Concepts, The locals who helped out and the new staff. I'm looking forward to the brewery and bakery that I've heard so much about and there have been other ideas floated such as communal table nights, quiz nights, whisky bars and more. Bring it on. It's great to see another hills town given a shot in the arm. Cheers!

This business are Highway robbers and staff are ditzy, food disgusting and over priced and management arrogant and beyond caring about the lack of customer satisfaction. Save your hard earned cash and go somewhere worth the money that's true to what they advertise their accomodation to be because Mt Lofty House is not as advertised!

Noisey wedding guests no doubt drunk on the free alcohol were an issue as was the ever hot/cold surging shower in the morning . Unfortunately the breakfast was terrible. We ordered the full breakfast and the buffet. It's hard to believe how bad it was. Old fruit, rock hard sliced avocado, terrible flat white, empty juices bottles, packet mueslis, 5 people always crowding around one toaster. The told us the breakfast wasn't included in room when it was etc. Hardy's Verandah restaurant was smoke & mirrors chef's ego minuscule portions. Go to the Magill Estate for a great degustation or to Maximillians restaurant down the road. Since the Mecure group took over Mt Lofty House has been renovated and the grounds are amazing. We went there for Xmas lunch- 7 star views 7 stars for being open! 5 star grounds (this place would be great for a wedding!) Great friendly service Good entertainment Nice layout in general in the beautifully perched rear function room with valley view. Full points for not kicking us out early. The food wasn't as it should be for the price. The small sizes were fine for a lunch but for the price it wasn't great. Very average pre prepared out of the packet/jar antipasto with supermarket quality prosciutto etc which most people didn't really eat. Despite the presentation , the rest of the meal was average. The eighties pub 'desert buffet' queue visually ruined the day, they should have just done a selection for each table and moved to quality not quantity.

It was quiet for a Wednesday lunch with only a few tables. I noticed there was no salt and pepper on the table, and this was brought to us. White salt flakes in a little dish and pepper in a small grinder. Funnily enough I didn't use either on my meal. We started with a plate of dips, hommous, pumpkin and I can't remember the third, it was presented with two slices of crusty bread and little crispy biscuits. The entrees came out, and I was happy to see a beautifully presented pork belly and an artfully placed carrot. My only criticism (if you could call it that) was the crackling was completely white and it would have been nice to have some colour. I think I'm being picky. The arancini balls proved quite popular at our table. Mains were served and the lamb wasn't how I thought it would be presented as my brain was thinking lamb with the bone. Those that chose ribs received a finger bowl. The lamb was delicious, and the acidic balance was perfect. Dessert was a shared banana caramel pie (one person had to leave so we had hers), and washed it down with an affogato. We did request frangelico with our affogato and oddly they had run out, so I had mine with baileys. Tia Maria might have been the better second choice. The serving was pleasing with lots of coffee beans spread on the plate. Utopia is known for their afternoon teas of scones and jam, and as a wedding/function centre with the beautiful waterfall surrounds. The water was cascading down the hill and many joggers went passed our window after their long hike. I will most definitely be back. On a side note, an entree, main and dessert from a lovely selection is only $55 pp.
