    Beef sirloin steak
    Anita D.

I have been to The Scenic a number of times with my mates from the hills. Generally, it is a catch up in the downstairs bar for a beer and to relax and enjoy the amazing view of Adelaide. This is a real local pub, where a lot of fellas stop on their way home after work to get a brew. I have never eaten in the upstairs restaurant before. In all honesty, I had never been upstairs until my recent visit. I just moved houses and was very lucky to have been given a voucher for a meal as a house warming present for the Scenic Hotel. After lagging around furniture all day, this was pretty much the best gift someone could give me. A good meal! The restaurant upstairs décor is a little dated. It kind of reminds me of a country home from the early 90s with floral wallpaper and cane styled chairs. But, there is a really inviting wooden bar set up next to a combustion heater. It feels more like someone's home rather than a pub. I could not go past the steak on the menu as I needed some iron and protein from a hard days work. The beer sirloin was cooked well (medium-rare) served with potato and onion fried rosti type balls, blue cheese stuffed mushrooms, baby spinach and red wine jus. Oh those stuffed mushrooms were little balls of flavour. Blue cheese just goes so well with mushrooms. The rosti balls for some reason reminded me of cheese and onion chips? Sounds weird, I know! But they were so yummy with the steak. A great dish and will return to have it again. Last thing to mention is that the bar stock has got a lot better than the last time I visited this pub. They have a couple of craft beers in the fridge, so they are now offering something a little more special.

Nice located pub, problem limited car parking and the staff a little up tight. Meals were good and views excellent.

However, it actually isn't a bad pub at all, I guess because of the lovely beer garden that they have out the side. I'm not quite sure where the whole tower thing comes from, though I suspect it might have something to do with the turret out the front, which isn't particularly big, but most people do consider that to be a tower. Yeah, it isn't a bad pub, quite nice actually, and has some nice beers available as well. Oh, and the service was pretty good as well.

We noticed they have a schnitzel special Monday to Thursday for dinner for $14.90 which is pretty good. Includes gravies, but costs extra for toppings. I also saw they offer up a nice variety of different toppings you may not see in other places- like a Mexican style with cheese and salsa, an Aussie style with bacon, cheese and barbecue sauce... along with traditional favourites like Hawaiian and Parmigiana. I asked for a Chicken Schnitzel with mushroom sauce on the side and it was delicious. Was nothing hugely amazing in size, but tastes good with freshness and was still filling. Plus with the luxury of the self-serve salad bar I could stock up with things like hot steamed or roasted vegetables, cold salads like a pasta, a potato, and a rice salad, along with small white rolls and butter. I enjoyed my evening here and definitely wouldn't go past coming back here for an easy night out. At least I know I can walk away feeling full and satisfied at a budget price.

There's a regular feature of live music, a classy atmosphere, and the staff are always happy to see you, whether it's your first visit or your fifteenth. Kids are well catered for with a seperate menu, and there's always colouring in sheets available for your table - family friendly at it's best. As far as bistro dining in the suburbs goes, I'd suggest the Rezz offers some of the best value for money to be found.

Our table for four was booked for 12.30pm, and were were home by1.45pm so maybe that says something in itself. Upon our arrival the waiter could not find our allocated table number 71, and were were standing in front of many empty tables waiting for that to be sorted. He then turned up with our table number and swapped it with for a table with number 48. So we're sitting at the table with no menus and a different lady came up to take our order. She ran off to bring some menus when another lady brought us some. When the waitress came back and saw us with a menu each, she placed her four menus at the end of the table saying joyfully "you can have two each now". We had hardly had our menus when we were asked by another waitress what we would like to order and requested another couple of minutes. Another waitress (a different one again) took our order, and our predrinks were soon served followed by our shared entree of garlic pizza. Three of our mains arrived, and we had to wait for our son to receive his main meal of pizza and the time was ticking. Some of our empty plates were taken by another male waiter, and I asked whether we were supposed to get a bowl of sliced bread as we'd noticed other tables have it. The waiter did ask whether we wanted bread, and it really was too late as he had cleared my dishes. So another staff member (the guy on the till) came to take my son's pizza tray away, and took our table number away. We were never asked if we wanted more drinks, nor later offered the dessert menu or asked whether we wanted coffee. After waiting waiting waiting we decided to leave so I went to pay the bill. I was not told what we had to verify the total, and as it seemed like the right amount. I spoke of my displeasure in the lack of service, and he asked whether we wanted coffees but it was far too late as the boys were ready to go. I stated that we'd be unlikely to return and he said we must come back to try. There is no incentive to return.

I guess the main thing I liked about it was the beer garden, and there were a few times when I would sit out the back with a couple of friends drinking a couple of beers. It does have some charm about it, and while in parts it does feel a little tacky, the pub itself isn't too bad. I guess it does have a lot to do with the memories that I have of the place.

The pub is quite old looking, on a corner, but it has been refurbished inside and out the back. The carpark is huge which is good. I do love a good salad bar and this one lives up to my expectations, also they have cheap snitty's Tuesday night's. Also, there is a senior's section on their website which states senior's get the royal treatment 7 days a week, which gives you an idea of the crowd. I stopped in here once, half drunk on the wa to town with some girls, and we stood out amongst the oldies tearing up the d-floor. The drinks aren't that cheap either, especially what we drink. I'm sure port and sherry were the specials for the night. But the beer garden is ok, simple, neat and new. They also hold trivia nights on Tuesdays and karaoke on Thursday and Friday for a laugh.
