As far up North East road as you can go before hitting the hills; it is as much an English pub as any you'll visit in London. London Pride, Old Speckled Hen, Hobgoblin and Newcastle Brown Ale can all be bought in imperial pints. The staff and owner Michael all pour a mean pint and won't leave you waiting at the bar while they polish glasses or have a chat. The owner Michael has also done some serious renovations while keeping the original charm of the place intact. I remember the first time I visited feeling crammed in, with the low ceilings but with the new toilets added and the space being refurbished to extend the dining area, the interior feels a lot bigger and more welcoming. The ceiling is still low and beams have coasters from English beers and pubs, so it's retained its charm. Also, Michael has built a great car park and awesome outdoor area for drinking and listening to some local bands. Perfect on a summer night.
