Everything washed down with a glass of Bird in Hand sparkling ($9.50) and Merrill Rose ($7.00). It's a pity that they don't serve any decent sparkling red by the glass, so would be nice to see something other than Seaview on the wine list. We had table service the whole time, and only had to go to the bar to pay after our meal. Maybe that was because it was quiet for a Monday lunch, and I think that The British was a great way to start my week.

As you order up at the bar for both drinks and food it keeps most customer-staff interaction to a minimum but it works well for the business. When the customer is ordering staff are able to be quick and get your drink straight away for you to take, which is needed as they get busy! Just dont expect to be coddled or have an in depth discussion. Over dinner time they are packed out, so if you can't get there early (i.e. 6pm) or you have a larger group you should definitely book! In the past food has taken a while to come out, but mostly that's because we ordered after all the other big groups. Can't expect our food to come out before theirs, first come first served! There are multiple James Squire beers and ciders on tap, as well as the typical bar spirits and wines and also some unusual menu items like the cider spider (apple cider with sorbet in it!) Food menu is trendy, catered towards a crowd who enjoy their gourmet burgers and hotdogs, wood fired pizza and a couple of salads for the dieters. Dessert options include nutella pizza and deep fried oreos, so feel sorry for the dieters who then have to try and resist those. Definitely a great place for dinner or drinks!

The service was slow (it took about 25 minutes for our desserts to arrive) when it seemed like a lot of staff were just walking around not doing much. Attended to us quickly both with drinks and delivery of food. Food portions were generous for the price, chips were tasty and well seasoned. However, my burger was phenomanal. Moved from Canada to Australia 3 years ago, and can attest this is probably up there on one of the best burgers I've had here in Australia. Cooked to perfection, the sauce reminded me of "White Spot Restaurant" chain back in Canada they called it a "Triple O Sauce". They marketed it as a "secret sauce", but everyone knew it was a mixture of mayo, tomato relish and ketchup/tomato sauce. Still, having it here at this venue, reminded me a wee bit of home. So good. Thank you. The only downside I can think of, is wish the pub was open after the game. Came back after to wait out the rush demand for buses/taxis/ubers (waited over an hour to get one), and this place could have made a killing for staying open just a little longer. Not sure if it's a city thing or it being a Sunday but something to note for next year. Extend your hours, apply to the city to do so for this weekend (if needed) or even just keep the downstairs portion open for the extra business. Seriously, you turned away huge crowds by closing early. Otherwise, next time we're in Adelaide, will definitely be back for that burger. Yummo.

It was nice to see security on the door and they directed me to the bistro. Our table of 10 was clearly identified under the booking name, time and numbers attending. The Event Menu was the only one given to us and it had a selection of the typical pub foods of burgers and schnitzels. I chose the Salt & Pepper Calamari served with aioli, chips and salad. Disappointingly I thought the calamari was chewy although the others liked theirs with the light batter. The undressed salad was served in a tiny bowl and all that was in it was one piece of tomato, one piece of cucumber, a couple of red onion rings and a tiny bit of lettuce. Really not enough greens as its needed to break up the oil taste from the chips and calamari. I don't know whether its usual for the Cathedral Hotel to serve drinks in plastic ware but I thought it very odd. I know they were probably prepared for all the football revellers but to use these in the bistro was unprofessional. I only like glassware for my drinks. Everyone else at the table was disappointed and thought it odd. NB. I gave the Cathedral Hotel the review link and they were very quick to explain that due to the laneway being open for the day the liquor licence didn't allow glass any where in the premises (including the bistro). They will be serving in glass for the remainder of the season, so that's good news. I'll be back to have my glass of sparkling red served in glass!

I came back here again when I was back in Adelaide, simply to check it out again. I have to say that it's not bad, though it is pretty flashy. There is a really nice beer garden out the back, which is non-smoking to boot. However they only have the standard beers on tap, so it's not a place I would go back to all that often.

This dog was a regular, we know because the friendly barman told us. Staff were really friendly and I got the feel of a family owned business. We got our food quickly (which was good because I was quite hungry) but this also could have been because we were the only ones in the front bar (except for the dog). We went for a pub classic, the Schnitzel, which at $17.90 was one of the cheapest meals on the menu. How was the schnitzel? well... the beer battered chips were amazing!! The schnitzel was quite bland and my partner who had the parmy said that the cheese had no flavour. However, he REALLY likes cheese.
