In part it felt like an inner-city pub, yet it still retained that rural feeling about it, probably because there was a building out the back called 'The Barn' that happened to be a function room (and there was also a barbecue under the shelter). The food (in the entertainment voucher) was really really great - warm and hearty, what you'd expect from the Barossa. My boyfriend ordered the chicken and veg soup off of the specials board for entree - which I also had a few tasting spoonfuls of. It was delicious & really flavourful with lots of chicken & veg - exactly what you wanted on a cold day, sitting by the fireplace. For mains, my boyf (lets just call him that from now on) wanted to order a salad, however we were given the impression that they so rarely have salad orders that they were actually unable to accommodate the order, so he ordered the fishermans basket instead. He said that it was just 'alright'. I - on the other hand - had the lamb shank after seeing it on other people's plates. It was fantastic - just the kind of dish you'd want to order at a Tavern. As a shank should, the meat just fell from the bone with no need for a knife. Hearty, tasty, filling & on a plate full of veg - it made a great lunch. There are a couple of tacky 'wall stickers' around the place, but the cosiness of the Greenock Tavern made it worthwhile.

We ordered steak _well done, no blood_ and had to send it back 3 times. Each time it came out raw with blood running across the plate. Staff shrugged and said "steak is cooked with blood coming out, it's natural". Hygiene is non-existent - 0/10. The waitress had her fingers all over the food when she brought the plate out. What disappointed me a little was that there was no food on offer, and we were actually looked for some decent pub food, especially since it was getting close to 2:00 pm which meant that all of the kitchens in the various pub would suddenly shut. Both dishes came out in a timely manner and was really nice. My schnitzel looked small, but it was tasty and filling. The chicken korma was great according to my friend, but not enough of it. Due to the club extension, the price increase to food and drinks was understandable. However, I think paying over $20 for a schnitzel is steep for a community club. I do appreciate the use of chicken breast though. The only other gripe would be the cold and unseasoned chips. They do offer a three course lunch special which I am keen to come back for. They also have another dining area, which has a limited menu, but I heard is better value if you don't care about the salad and vegie bar.
