Like, it had some awesome beers on tap, the service was wonderful, and not only that but there was a huge beer garden out the back as well. Honestly, I have to say that I really did love this place.

It's hard to pin down the ambiance as the areas of the Hotel differ; all in a good way. The "BAAA" is a great example of rural Australian bars: happy and inviting with live bands often playing. Meanwhile, it's eclectic and relaxed in the penny bar area, and the beer garden has a family friendly vibe. The standout for me on this visit was the dining area. It's relaxed but more restaurant than pub-like; in a good way. The service was very good, the staff friendly and prompt. But the best thing was the food. As long as you are happy to go beyond today's typical Australia pub food, and instead try some gourmet style traditional pub food. I had the slow cooked lamb shoulder with vegetables and light jus, while my partner went for the Mediterranean Chicken salad. Both were excellent, but the lamb was next level. Despite being well satisfied we could not resist the sticky date pudding. And we weee both happy we did not. Great experience all-round. The prices are higher than pub meals, but for that you get gourmet food that you will remember for a long time. Worth the little extra for sure.

We ordered steak _well done, no blood_ and had to send it back 3 times. Each time it came out raw with blood running across the plate. Staff shrugged and said "steak is cooked with blood coming out, it's natural". Hygiene is non-existent - 0/10. The waitress had her fingers all over the food when she brought the plate out. After all the back-and-forth to the kitchen, we both got sick. It genuinely felt like something was done to the food. The staff stand around gossiping about customers loud enough for everyone to hear. When we raised the issues politely, we were treated like rubbish. To top it off, I received an aggressive, insulting email from the manager/owner saying we are no longer welcome, just for complaining about raw food and poor hygiene. *Food*: Undercooked, unsafe *Service*: Rude, unprofessional, gossipy *Hygiene*: Disgusting - staff touching food *Management*: Hostile and unaccountable Avoid at all costs. Made us sick and then banned us for speaking up.

Anyway, they had a nice beer on tap, which I certainly did appreciate, and the service wasn't too bad either. They also have quite a decent sized beer garden, but we ended up spending most of our time in the front bar, which was quiet, and really nice as well.

Beergarden @ The Brickworks

Ok, I know I gave the Brickworks Beer Garden four stars, but it is the weirdest pub I've ever been…read moreto. But hey, it works. Behind the permanent fixture of the icecream and donut fixture, up some brick stairs (watch out for loose bricks), above the rubble and wild greenery that is the Brickworks, is the Brickie's Beer Garden. Inside there is a shabby old stage, some wooden tables and benches, and what looks like the dodgiest speakeasy this side of Ho Chi Minh. It sort of just an open air corrugated iron shed - hence the term 'beer garden'. Out the back is an outdoor setting with more tables and chairs under the sun. Vines wrap around the supporting beams inside and out. Behind the stage is a big hand painted sign saying 'BEERGARDEN', with palm trees and an oasis horizon. If you're there on a Sunday afternoon a bunch of elderly rockers are likely to be playing classics from beyond the grave. It's surprisingly enjoyable. Behind the bar is loads of strange ephemera - photos of performers and patrons and ancient Coopers promotional junk. Oh and some fuzzy headed bartenders. The folks here are real nice, if a bit toasted. Some friends decided they should try and play some gigs there, but talking to the staff was mighty confusing. I reckon the Brickie's Beergarden is a real find. A pleasant place with a big ole outdoor setting, deserted on a Sunday, perfect for a few beers after playing soccer at King's Reserve. There is no EFTPOS, so bring cash.
