I used to live a couple of blocks away from The Kings (previously the Kings Head) and must say I didn't go there overly often. I have been a few times of late, due to friends parties and the odd chance that I just happened to be around the area, and I must say I like it more than I used to. I think the crowd has a lot to do with my enjoyment of a bar, and it is certainly less pretentious than it used to be. The interior is pretty nice, with an overall rustic feel with some polished elements that lift the place up a notch or two. The Front bar is my favourite area (which is normal for me), and out the front is a really funky booth style design that kicks on a warm summer night. They have also made some kegs into tables (see the piccy) which really works. Right I'll put my interior designer silk scarf away for the time being and pop open a stubby. The beer selection is just how my fellow Yelper, Tegan H, describes....pretty darn spiffy! I tried a few myself, the last time I was sitting on the corner stool, but ended up with sticking with a couple of tried and true drops! I always feel that any pub where you are comfortable having a drink is handy in my book, but be warned that some of the brewskis (and spirits) can be a little costly (ATM's are dangerous!).

I do wonder at times why I would never step inside for a beer, but a part of me realises that maybe back in those days there wasn't anything all that interesting inside - just old men sitting at the bar drinking beer and smoking cigarettes. In fact the pubs that I did visit back then were all basically that. However this is another of those pubs that they have completely renovated and it now looks like one of those trendy pubs with a decent beer garden. Mind you the beer garden is basically non-smoking, which does add a change to a lot of the other pubs that you visit. It's not a bad place, but not a pub that I would regularly visit.

The Edinburgh Hotel has stunning outdoor seating, a lovely and varied menu and helpful staff…read more Situated on Main Street in Mitcham, the hotel consists of many small bars and rooms, all labeled with large black signs. When I went to there on a Saturday afternoon, I was lucky enough to experience their outdoor seating in the beer garden. The beer garden is located at the northern edge of the hotel/pub. There are many large trees to take shade under and a range of barrels to sit at and enjoy a drink. For the beer garden, they had a window in the main building where you could order drinks. The drinks were well priced. One thing that I found pretty cool was that there was a person collecting beer glasses from tables once people were done. He even wore a shirt that said "glassy" on it. What was even more impressive than the humour with the shirt was the fact that he could carry around 40 glasses stacked up and still open the door to go inside. Some serious talent there! Although I did not end up selecting from their exquisite snack and meal menu for the beer garden, as the event I went to was catered, I managed to have a quick browse of the menu. The meals were around $20 or so, which is pretty good and they all sounded great. I will have to try some of them, the next time I go. As for the food at the catered event, I felt it was quite innovative, favoursome and well presented. The first item I had were sundried tomato and thyme pinwheels. It was a simple bite sized appetizer however the thyme and the sundried tomato paste went well together. The flatbread that held the ingredients together was also not too loose meaning that it could easily be eaten without a plate or napkin. The second appetizer was a Brie and Quince cracker. The watercracker had a thin slice of Brie at the base followed by a small rectangular prism of quince paste. It was a very simple yet effective appetizer. It is a shame I didn't get a photo of that one before I sent it on a one-way journey to my stomach. Appetizer the third was a samosa. It was filled with diced vegetables and was served hot. For this one, I thought ahead and grabbed a napkin and waited a minute for them to cool down. The same could not be said for the other people at the table who endured went straight in and found it to be quite hot indeed. The samosa was served with what appeared to be a chive sauce. The sauce was tasty and complemented the flavor of the samosa and it's spiced vegetable contents quite well. The fourth appetizer was a prawn wrapped in a fancy tempura batter. I am not a big seafood lover however I broke of the tip of the batter and found it to be quite nice. Appetizer number 5 were sausage rolls and mini pasties. And the best part was, they looked like they were made at the hotel and not bought from a supermarket! The worst part was, they ran out by the time they got to me cause most people took two of them (a pastie and a sausage roll each). The sixth and final appetizer was a thin strip of crumbed fish served with tartare sauce. I had a nice sized piece which unfortunately broke when I dipped it in the tartare sauce, however I was fortunately able to savage it. The batter was nice and not too oily. It was well crumbed and the fish was fresh. If these appetizers are anything like the food on the menu, then I will definitely be going back. The surroundings were lovely and it was the perfect spot to spend the afternoon.

Excluding a fresh coat of paint, updated carpet, the front bar bar is still in original form (including the regulars that drink there). Look out for the snake bite specials, going out at 10 bucks a jug. You can still catch a local rock/punk band playing on your favourite night of the week (I can't remember what night that is). A step through the corridor and past an ATM, will take you to another bar with big screen TV's and a decent coctail menu. Bi-fold glass doors open up to Moseley Square. This place is more upmarket, so leave your flannel shirt and the previous bar, and whack on your Don Travisty instead. If you're over front bar action, head to rear bistro which has the vibe and decor that reflects a Goldcoast Casino in the 90's. The schnittys are hot, and still at fair bistro prices. Finish your meal to the ambience of a water feature, and if you need time to re-coup, the pokies are just to the right. When you're ready to move on, take 5 steps to the rear car park, or continue on to "The G"

While it has undergone some cosmetic changes…read morein recent years the actual layout still remains pretty well unchanged from how it used to look when it went by the name the St Vincent Hotel. Interestingly when the pub first opened back in 1869, it was known as The Jetty Hotel so it has gone back to its original name. If you like to listen to some music while you sip your drink, The Jetty has live bands on most Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. When the bands aren't playing they have a jukebox in the front bar that's rocking from 7 each night and on Wednesdays you can get into a bit of karaoke if that's your thing. The Jetty Hotel isn't a ritzy experience. It's the kind of pub where you have a beer and put your bets on if you're in the front bar but it is a good place to watch the world go by. If you're in the market for a bite to eat, you can get a good feed either in the front bar or the Watergarden Bistro. They also have a café and a function room to accommodate close to 150 people. Should you so desire you can stay at The Jetty. It has 16 rooms and the rooms are well priced.

There's a great atmosphere here, much like across the road at Enigma Bar. Everyone's interested in having a good time, and nobody wants to fight. Those are two things that I like when I go out, and so long as the beer keeps flowing and the laughs keep coming, you're guaranteed a great night out. The food here is great, and both meals and drinks are very affordable. They have James Squire varieties on tap (which isn't something you see too often), and you can get nice and pissed up without spending more than a fifty. The life of the party is at the outdoor areas, located both in front of the bar and out the back in the beer garden. The beer garden is where I like to spend most of my time, sat cosily in their wooden benches and seeing everyone thoroughly enjoying themselves. The Worldsend also have regular live performances, many being acoustic. There's nothing better than a good little singalong after a few pints!

This is a student sanctum, where UniSA folk flock after a hard day at uni. I'm often there by midday for a sneaky drink between classes, and can often find myself back there in the evening for more. The food is good, the drinks are cheap and the atmosphere is laid back. What more can you wish for? There's lots of places to kick back, whether it be out the front checking out the "talent" on Hindley Street, at the front bar, sitting down for a meal, or in the popular beer garden out back. The beer garden is always my area of choice, always filled with an interesting bunch.
