    Chocolate fondant
    Sam B.

Lovely location and fantastic setting, however the service and food was hit and miss. Ordered the $57 lunch special which is a choice of two starters, a main and a dessert! For starters I ordered the seared scallops and prawn cakes! Both were unfortunately served cold. The scallops were lovely and tender but extremely bland. The prawn cakes were nothing memorable! The sour note of the day was the main. I chose the roast chicken with Middle Eastern grains, bacon, root vegetables and red wine jus. This is the description provided on the menu... However I didn't feel this is what I was served and again the food was cold on arrival. My root vegetables consisted of one carrot and three small beetroots. The red wine jus was not prominent and it felt like the dish was missing something! Dessert was the definite highlight of the meal... when we eventually got it that is! Half an hour after our mains were cleared the waitress came out to advise that the chef wasn't happy with the chocolate fondant so was preparing another one. After 40 minutes I finally got my chocolate fondant! It was amazing !!! Cleaned the plate!! Gooey chocolate centre was heaven! Overall this venue seems to promote itself as an above average restaurant yet I received a below par meal not worthy of the price! Really wanted to like this place! I will try it again when they bring in their summer menu.

What a parking nightmare. They need better control over parking spaces for patrons. I won't be doing that again on a weekend!!

We have chosen Utopia as our Wedding Venue because the setting is breathtaking and their all inclusive package is the way to go considering the partner and I both work more than full time.

This is really a hub for creativity, whether it is for artists, businesses or events. No matter your venture, you will be welcomed here and looked after. The crew at Tenth & Gibson went out of their way to help me out with my event. No matter my enquiry, they found a way to assist and support what I needed. What I do love about this space is that it is well priced, open, well sized, funky, colourful and you can pretty much work the space you want it. There is nothing to navigate around; and there is great acoustics and lighting. There is some pretty cool street art on the walls and the decor is really funky and eclectic. So, you don't really need to do much to dress up the room. It already looks really great. The other bonus is it is just outside of the CBD and there is free street parking! Your guests will love that! If you need it, you can make great use out of the photography backdrop. You can project onto it or use it for your own photography for your event. It was a brilliant backdrop to my photos of guests. If you do have a catered event, there is a space to the side of the main Venue room you can use with easy street access. Speak to the staff about using this. I was absolutely delighted to have used Tenth & Gibson for an event. It is by far one of my favourite venues in Adelaide and I recommend it to anyone looking for a space for large or small events.

If you're looking at hiring the venue, it will seat 80 people for a sit down function or can take 130 for a cocktail party. Take special note of the fountain in front of the house as a location for you photos. It was donated to the owner by former Adelaide Mayor and state pollie, William Townsend back in 1877. Fast forward a hundred years or so to the early 1970's, in fact around the same time TV's The Partridge Family was making it big, and there was talk of demolishing Partridge House and using the land to establish housing. Thank heavens, the then Glenelg Council decided to buy and restore the historic site instead. The beautiful gardens and grounds are open to the public every day, but the house is closed.

Comprised of two heritage listed church buildings, the atmosphere of the company's theatre spaces is unique and really adds to the feel of the shows. They are major supporters of the Adelaide Fringe, and host their own Fringe program over three different venues, including the two theatres at their Holden Street base, up to six different performance spaces in the Adelaide Town Hall and one at Thebarton Theatre. The director of the theatre invites international acts to the Fringe to create the Director's Choice season. They also support local and Australian performers. Alongside their huge Fringe involvement, they support the South Australian Writers Theatre by providing a venue for regularly staged readings. The company also runs a yearly Graduates Season for recent graduates from the AC Arts theatre courses as well as from the Flinder's Drama Centre. Graduates can apply to stage a performance at their theatre and be granted support. The theatre's busiest time is around the Fringe, and their performances are always worth checking out. They're also on the perpetual look-out for volunteers to help during the Fringe, and will thank you with free tickets to their shows!

A particularly interesting venue situation is the Holden Street Theatres, with a couple of venues in the same little complex. Directly beside the Hindmarsh Stadium, these theatres are inside old church buildings from years past. I have seen some very interesting shows here, and also some dreadful tripe. That's the chance you always take when it comes down to it. Going out to the theatre can be a great experience or it can be a bit of a dull dud. You may end up with a dull bum sitting on the less than luxurious seats at either the Holden Street Theatre or The Arch, and you may get a stiff neck in The Arch because neither stage or seating is raked, meaning it is all flat and not always comfortable to see depending on where you are and who is in front of you. There is also the lottery factor of local theatre; many local actors suddenly appear in one person shows or shows that are really a little far out of their reach as performers as they attempt to capitalise on the festival by throwing on a show, and they may as well have stayed under the rock they crept out from in the end; but there are some wonderful shows that come and go. Many of them here at these very theatres, so if you feel like the gamble, and usually it's around the twenty dollar mark, try out Holden Street. If nothing else you'll have an amusing adventure that hopefully will leave you inspired.

I attended a ESTY Craft workshop and had to register online to get a placement. I attended a Friday night on the 17.06 from 6pm to 9pm. The theme was stationary, where each person receives free materials, instructions and guidance to make old-school paper stationery such as notepads, books, zines and notebooks, travel books, and it was all about being creative and book binding. This was a great social event, as many of us never bound books/note books by hand, it the guests and staff helped each other to complete out selected activity. I was greeted at the front door, received a name tag and greeted by more friendly and helpful staff. The place was cleaned, well situated and laid out with a workshop area and retail area and coffee/cafe area. I made a japanese binding book and a traveller's note book, by selecting different papers, materials, stickers and then had to bind the book together with needle and thread. It was a fantastic experience and will probably do this again. It was fun if you are into arts and craft and social mingling. There are other events coming up, so head to their website as you can sign up for workshops/events to make soaps, stationary items, paper flowers etc or just come along to view the exhibitions and displays.
