This is really a hub for creativity, whether it is for artists, businesses or events. No matter your venture, you will be welcomed here and looked after. The crew at Tenth & Gibson went out of their way to help me out with my event. No matter my enquiry, they found a way to assist and support what I needed. What I do love about this space is that it is well priced, open, well sized, funky, colourful and you can pretty much work the space you want it. There is nothing to navigate around; and there is great acoustics and lighting. There is some pretty cool street art on the walls and the decor is really funky and eclectic. So, you don't really need to do much to dress up the room. It already looks really great. The other bonus is it is just outside of the CBD and there is free street parking! Your guests will love that! If you need it, you can make great use out of the photography backdrop. You can project onto it or use it for your own photography for your event. It was a brilliant backdrop to my photos of guests. If you do have a catered event, there is a space to the side of the main Venue room you can use with easy street access. Speak to the staff about using this. I was absolutely delighted to have used Tenth & Gibson for an event. It is by far one of my favourite venues in Adelaide and I recommend it to anyone looking for a space for large or small events.

The food is amazing, I often have the Moroccan lamb salad for lunch. The salad dressing is tangy and the hummus sets it off nicely. The greens are always fresh which is a must in my salads. I have had the eggs benedict for breakfast, the serving sizes are generous and I was not able to finish it all. The hollandaise sauce is brilliant. The omelette is also very nice and again a very generous size. The staff are very attentive and friendly. Plenty of parking in the car park. As the trend for pubs which look like fancy bars and fancier restaurants continues, its nice to walk into a pub with a solid wooden bar, well worn chesterfields in the front bar and fairly simple wooden tables in the restaurant expect the traditional as well; chicken schnittys, fish and chips - the works. The Duck Inn also has a great range of beers and ciders. Adelaide Hills cider has been on tap here since you could tap their kegs and their local range is superb for a small pub. Like most pubs, the Duck Inn does have pokies, but you can't hear them in the restaurant and the noise level in the bar is minimal. I'd opt for the Duck Inn on a lazy day and to sit in the Front bar next to the fire on the big couches with some beer and chips and spend your day doing not quite a lot.

The architectural design was also another first for government or private businesses to incorporate energy saving systems. It has stormwater collection facilities allowing water to be filtered and stored on site then distributed to Adelaide's subterranian aquifier, solar hot water, evapoartive air conditioning, energy efficient lighting and a low maintenance garden. If only we can all afford that! It is situated between the Marion Shopping Centre and the new Marion Aquatic Centre. The centre houses a theatre, meeting rooms, art gallery, café, foyer, plaza and the Marion Library, which have individual opening hours so it's best to check the City of Marion website attached with this review. During the school holidays the whole complex run their own programs to keep kids and parents occupied. The library is open plan and easy to navigate, membership is free, the gallery is bright and colourful with lots to see during exhibition events and there's art and craft to purchase, the theatre screens movies, hosts plays, etc, meeting rooms for hire and the foyer itself hosts various functions and events. Feeling peckish? Fear not as there is a fully equipped cafe with a great selection of light meals, snacks and hot and cold drinks. This year on December 10th area surrounding the centre will host its first market, so keep an ear out for next year if you miss this years market. Definitely a good place for the whole family.

I used to think the Marion Cultural Centre was a complete and utter eyesore. Its ultra modern…read morearchitecture used to exist un-surrounded by other buildings but since the Aquatic Centre and other buildings and have sprung up around it, its taken on a new life and now seems to fit well into its surroundings. If you look closely you'll realise the architectural team who designed the building have managed to incorporate the word MARION into the external features of the building - pretty clever really. After disapproving from afar for a long time, I finally went inside and was genuinely impressed ... what an amazing public space! Inside the Cultural Centre are a variety of public spaces. There's the Marion Library which is open 7 days a week and offers computers for public use complete with internet access. There are also a couple of rooms available for hire known as the Sturt and Green Rooms - the Green is clearly a reference to the Marion Council's commitment to environmental issues. The Domain Theatre that seats 280 people, plays host to all sorts of events and comes complete with its own box office to manage ticket sales. Gallery M is the Cultural Centre's 'state of the art' art space and is also open all week. Entry is free and individuals or groups can hire the space for their own exhibitions. The gallery has an amazingly high ceiling and I've been told there's something like 66 linear metres of hanging space. The only drawback within the centre is Signatures Café. I have to admit I haven't eaten there but I was sorely disappointed with their coffee! I recommend having a closer look at the exterior of the building to see if you can make out the letters and of course taking a tour of the facilities inside the building. It's a great place and well worth a visit.

Cummins House at Novar Gardens is one of Adelaide's most beautiful historic houses. The house…read moreitself was built in 1842 by one of the colony's early settlers, Sir John Morphett. It was the Morphett family home for many years until 1977 when it was put up for auction but thankfully ownership passed to the state government. The house and gardens are now open to the public twice a month to enjoy at their leisure. The house began life as a small brick cottage of just five rooms but grew over the years to become the grand residence we see today. You can tour the house and see some of the rooms still complete with their original furnishings. The servants quarters make for a fascinating look and a reminder of the 'upstairs downstairs' mentality that existed in early South Australian life with the well to do. A visit to Cummins House is not complete without a look through the lovingly tended gardens that surround the house. Interestingly these gardens are looked after by a team of volunteers. Cummins House is a popular venue for weddings in Adelaide with both the house and gardens available for hire. The house operates on restricted open hours and is only open on the first and third Sunday of the month between 2 and 4.30pm. Other opening times can be arranged for groups or people interested in using the venue for functions.

They do Devonshire tea on the first and third Sunday of each month and you can combine this with a tour of the house and its surrounds for very little extra ( from memory, I think the Devonshire tea was $10 per person and the tour was $12 per person). The Society who look after the house have obviously devoted a lot of time to its upkeep and studying its history as well as that of the Morphett family who originally lived there. The tour is quite detailed - be prepared to receive a lot of information!

Partridge House at Glenelg is in no way connected to the 70's TV show. Its not the home of the…read morePartridge Family and there is no multi coloured bus parked anywhere within the vicinity - although it would be fun if there was. Rather Partridge House is a beautiful old community home, originally built in 1899 for a Mrs Elinor Varley. The house is today set amidst stunning gardens and grounds and is used these days predominantly as a venue for weddings. Partridge house can also be hired for all sorts of events and is home to various community groups and organisations. If you're looking at hiring the venue, it will seat 80 people for a sit down function or can take 130 for a cocktail party. Take special note of the fountain in front of the house as a location for you photos. It was donated to the owner by former Adelaide Mayor and state pollie, William Townsend back in 1877. Fast forward a hundred years or so to the early 1970's, in fact around the same time TV's The Partridge Family was making it big, and there was talk of demolishing Partridge House and using the land to establish housing. Thank heavens, the then Glenelg Council decided to buy and restore the historic site instead. The beautiful gardens and grounds are open to the public every day, but the house is closed.

Major Fail! Where to…read morestart? We recieved a flyer in the mail promoting the new Glenelg Club. It stated that it does breakfast on Saturday's, kids eat free Saturday and kids can run around on the oval. Perfect, or so we thought. Got there and there was seating outside but no shade, meaning we had to sit inside as we would've been burnt to a crisp out there. The kids couldn't run around on the oval as there were guys out there getting ready for a cricket match. Totally understand that it's a sporting venue, but don't advertise that the kids can run on the oval if they can't. Then we tried to order and were informed that kids only eat free during lunch and dinner (it didn't state this on the flyer, or on the sign in their dining room). It was only 15 minutes before the lunch menu started so when it hit 11 we again tried to order for the kids. We were then told (by the same lady as before) that kids only eat free during dinner. So not impressed. Clearly it's a scam designed to get people in the door. There are 6 items on the breakfast menu, one of which is an avocado bruschetta. I tried to order this but was told they had run out of avocado. Considering there was only 1 other table full in the whole place I don't think they had just run out. Having a limited menu is fine, but if you're going to have a limited menu you need to have it all available. Between us we ordered 4 breakfasts, 2 eggs florentine and 2 bacon and eggs (one with extra bacon). 1 of each came out after about 15 minutes. The extra bacon on the bacon and eggs was missing. We were waiting for the other 2 meals before starting. After about 10 minutes the waitress offered to put our plates under the warming lights while we waited. I asked how long the other meals would be and she went to check. We were only a couple metres away from the kitchen pass so we heard the conversation. Waitress: "How much longer will the eggs florentine be?" Chef: "Was there another?" So of course we started eating since they had to start from scratch on the other meals. This is a plus (and the only one from the whole experience) the food was actually really tasty. Flavours were good. Too bad my poached egg was hardboiled, not slightly overcooked but completely rock hard! After another 15-20 minutes the other 2 meals finally arrived. The extra bacon that had been ordered for the bacon and eggs ended up on the eggs florentine. The poached egg on that dish was cooked perfectly. The scrambled eggs on the bacon and eggs were stone cold though. She must have cooked it first and then left it sitting there while she did the eggs florentine. There was also only 1/3 as much scrambled egg as there was on the first dish. There was no consistency at all. There was only 1 chef on and she was on her mobile phone while she was cooking. It looked really unprofessional. There was no difference in size between a cappuccino and a mug of cappuccino and the 3rd cappuccino didn't show up until we reminded them about it. The whole experience was so so disappointing. I really wanted to love The Glenelg Club, but it was a trainwreck! It could be so good, it's got great potential, but it has a long way to go to even be considered okay. The flavour of the food was good, and the prices were very reasonable, but everything else needs to be majorly overhauled. I won't be going back there anytime soon. I hate to say this, but don't waste your time or your money.
