Unless you have a car, this is a pretty difficult pub to get to. In a way it is sort of like a country pub, though not your typical country pub, but rather one that you would find in England. I wouldn't necessarily call it classy, but it has an atmosphere of being a place for semi-special occassions. They have a pretty decent selection of beers, and the surroundings do make you feel as if you were in the English countryside. Appearances can be decieving, although this pub nestled in Coromandel Valley would appear to be an old relic of the bygone era with its red brick exterior, wide verandah, worn floorboards and huge log fireplaces - but the pub is only a few decades old yet retains the "old" pub feel. As the trend for pubs which look like fancy bars and fancier restaurants continues, its nice to walk into a pub with a solid wooden bar, well worn chesterfields in the front bar and fairly simple wooden tables in the restaurant expect the traditional as well; chicken schnittys, fish and chips - the works. The Duck Inn also has a great range of beers and ciders. Adelaide Hills cider has been on tap here since you could tap their kegs and their local range is superb for a small pub. Like most pubs, the Duck Inn does have pokies, but you can't hear them in the restaurant and the noise level in the bar is minimal. I'd opt for the Duck Inn on a lazy day and to sit in the Front bar next to the fire on the big couches with some beer and chips and spend your day doing not quite a lot. read more

We ordered the specials and the food was absolutely outstanding. However, it came almost an hour after we ordered. Our friends, who ordered at the same time got their meals 15 minutes before we did. It took 3 trips to the bar asking before we finally got our meal. We could see the lady in the kitchen and it looked like they had simply forgotten our order. Staff where nice on arrival but that's where the service stopped. Waited over an hour for food with people around us being served who arrived after us. Paid $27 for a schnitzel that is smaller than what I can get at the local chicken shop and the gravy resisted my chip to the point I needed to cut a top layer before actually using. Wonderful atmosphere with open fire and big comfy couches in front bar. Went for dinner mid week. We ordered the lamb shoulder - which was a very large, tasty and satisfying dish. The duck breast special perfectly cooked while the beef burger was good solid pub fare. Staff were ok. read more

The Duck Inn is less than 10 minutes from us but until Saturday night we had never been there. The other reviewers are correct, it's not a fancy pub by any stretch but more like a comfy country pub with old chesterfields and dark wood. The open fire is a really welcome addition to a cold night. The food? Good pub food, no real standouts. A couple of us had the charred kangaroo fillets served on quinoa and kumara medallions, well cooked and tasty and the sauce is served in a cute tiny jar. Other dishes selected were the Argentinian burger which looked good, the duck salad, and the chicken and mushroom open pie. The pie was the size of a bakery pie, just had no top on it. Accompanied by broccoli and some potato, a very small portion for $23.00. Would we go back? Yes, it is close and there are other things on the menu we would try. Just don't expect gastropub dining. read more

The ambience inside is great. Nice and warm with pleasing surroundings. Nice selection of beers on tap including Guinness. The food is ok without being great. Beef schnitzel was thin with commercially supplied frozen chips. Chicken Parma was the highlight - lovely tomato taste and a juicy piece of chicken. Battered fish suffered from the usual sin of too much batter hiding the taste of the flathead. The special of the day was roast pork. A good size serving. I've been here a few times with similar results. You may not be disappointed with the food but equally you won't find any inspiration. read more

Probably one of my favourite pubs at the moment, service was fantastic, we even received a free coffee from one of the waiters. The food was also absolutely fantastic! It has such a rustic and country feel to it making it feel homely and comfy. read more

So nice to find a pub that retains the country feel - lots of polished wood and old style decor. Met here with family for a birthday celebration and had a very nice meal with helpful staff. Not a large menu but we took advantage of the half-price lunch menu and felt we received value for money. Especially good was the sticky date pudding served in a glass jar with cream on the side. The Duck is my local, and with its old world charm (despite in fact being a new-ish pub), l'm rather glad it is so close to home. With its blazing wood fire and warm wooden interiors, it is a cozy spot to pass some time on cold winter days and nights. Warning: you'll need to be quick to grab the couch by the fireplace! There is a more formal dining area, but I prefer to eat in the main part of the pub. And there's a veranda outside for those who like fresh air and/or cigarettes (those in the former category should probably sit well away from the latter!). Lunchtime is a bargain if you pick something from the half price menu - my dining companions went with the garfish ($11) and tandoori chicken salad ($10.5). I lashed out on the full price roast pumpkin risotto ($14). I had a glass (oh, alright, two glasses!) of Pike's riesling (I've not yet met a wine from the Clare Valley that I didn't like). And I admired but abstained from the warm chocolate biscuit pudding. We were all happy with the meals, and the friendly, inclusive atmosphere. From families with small children, to workers who drop by, to retirees, it seems everyone is welcome at the Duck. It creates that English-pub feeling that we could in fact could be in the front room of a big old house of a particularly hospitable family. Had dinner there very recently. Waited 45mins for my meal to be served. By the time it had arrived it was cold. It wasn't very tasty and was quite a small serve. Found hairs in it half way through and reported it to the waitress. Waitress said the Chef was sorry and that was the end of that. Sadly, we will not return and do not recommend this experience to anyone. read more

A pub that is set in the lovely surrounds and has the look and feel of a pub from a bygone era. When we ventured here the kitchen had just been renovated so the menu was limited still. The service is attentive and staff are friendly and helpful. Mr man enjoyed his food and pint of beer, the dining room is cosy and well situated. There are pokies here, gladly you are unable to hear all the noise from the dining room. If you like that sort of thing then you will enjoy this pub. A pleasant way to spend an evening. Parking is plentiful and easy. read more

Just another pub I continue to go back to due to family having their birthday dinners at but enough is enough. For the last 10 years nothing has changed. The food is average and over priced. The service is shocking. Of your not a chum eating pensioner who has a pocket full of one dollar coins for the pokies don't bother with the duck. read more

The Duck Inn is like a local to me. It's got a certain old charm and also a bit quirky with fish plaques and ducks hanging on the walls and an open fire place for the winter. There is also a bar where they do live music occasionally. The menu seems to change a fair bit and the for the most part the quality is al right. It's not five star, but it's a decent pub meal. Normally service is quite quick but the last time I went it was NYE and slow even though it wasn't that busy. We also had a hungry baby and a crying mother. It was about an hour wait, but the best part is we were offered another drink or dessert as an apology from staff. I had the dessert of course and it came out in a minute. It was really nice too, so worth the wait in a way. I'd still come back as always, but wanted to thank the staff for being so caring. read more

Just had lunch at the lovely Duck Inn. Haven't been for years and was pleasantly surprised. Really good choice of vegetarian and vegan meals- much better than your standard mushroom risotto that is often the only thing on the menu in most other pubs. Good for meat eaters too. Lovely surroundings and Hanna, the staff member that served us was an absolute delight. Very friendly, professional and genuine. Prices I would say are about average. Will definitely be back. read more
