Overpriced and average quality - for the price. Nice view and location. Staff need to drop the 'tude.

Great location. Attentive staff. Nice mood. Food was good without being wow. Kitchen shuts a bit early for my liking.

When it came time to be let in I was getting my License from my wallet at the front of the door. I…read morewas told by the security guard to show my ID to another bouncer standing outside of the line. When I walked over to him he told me to go away. I asked him why and he asked how many drinks I had and I told him (3). He accused me of lying and said that I was sent over to him because I was too drunk. I was pretty clear with him that I was not lying and I was clearly not drunk, talking fine, standing fine, and so on. He told me to go speak to the other guy again. When I did, he asked me how many drinks I had, and I answered, he laughed and said "if you were honest I would have let you in" which was obviously a lie because he was not planning on letting me in anyway. He told me to go back to the other guy and said "he's the boss go talk to him". When I spoke to him, I asked him why he thought I was drunk and he kept giving childish responses like "nothing, I'm kicking you out for no reason" and "the police are walking past if you want to ask them". I told him that he was obviously saying it to get rid of me because the police were not going to make them let me in. At this point, my friend who had been let in, was waiting for me at the side of the entrance, where he was told he was allowed to stand but after he mentioned that he was waiting for me, the bouncer that checked my ID and his buddy grabbed him under the arms and threw him into me. Then the guy I was sent to and the guy that checked my ID (and assaulted my friend) kept saying "it's not my decision, go speak to the other guy" amongst other things like telling me I'm "bullshitting" and to "piss off". By this point it was obvious the guy I was sent to and two guys that assaulted my friend were making fun of me by sending me back and fourth because they kept looking at each other and laughing while being rude to me. Then when I got annoyed at them for laughing, they started yelling at us and the security manager came out and pulled me and my friend aside to talk to me about what happened. He explained that they have a job to do and it is within their rights to decline someone based on a "visual assessment" of how drunk someone is. I acknowledged that, but I made a point of how rude they were in doing so, and how they did not even tell me what was going on until I asked. He said that he still cannot let me in because he has to stand by their decisions, which is pretty poor given the fact that I had demonstrated that I was not intoxicated like they were saying. He was agreeing with whatever I said to him and it was clear to me that he was just trying to get rid of me and my friend, he said that he will review the footage and if what I am saying is true, it will be addressed. Then I asked if I could be let know what the outcome was, his response was "these guys are pretty replaceable, if you don't see them standing here, then you know it was dealt with". Was annoying because if he handled the situation properly, he would have gotten my contact details. He obviously had no plans of addressing the situation and advised us to go somewhere else to continue the night (it was 15 minutes before lockout at this point), but my question is, if he thought that I was sober enough to go somewhere else, why not let us in here? Needless to say, I was really annoyed at what had happened, and even more annoyed that after having agreed with me that what happened was wrong. The manager still didn't let me in or do anything to resolve the situation beyond speaking to me (i.e getting my contact details, asking them to apologies, or letting me in). Even after having written an email to rocket rooftop bar about it, I was not surprised when I was not told how this was dealt with and the same people were standing at the door when I returned, giving me the same attitude.

The majority of the Rocket regulars are trying so hard to be ironic it's difficult for them to even remain upright. I don't know how they have time to order drinks they're so busy being droll hipsters. But look, they're not all bad and as the others said you can dance and have a good time if you're there with mates. The toilets are almost always blocked and foul so avoid them where possible. The Rocket stairs are second only to Supermild in danger terms, and it's likely one of your friends will stack it in which case you can point and laugh at them. If you're the one who falls though, you will be humiliated and expect your friends to turn a blind eye. I once had a drink poured down my neck when I was chilling on the lounge here. In the guys defence he did buy me a fresh vodka after.

Horus has been one of my favourite spots on Hindley Street for years. Whether it be the food or the…read moreshisha, both are an experience you surely won't forget. You have the option of smoking shisha indoors or outside, which makes your option largely dependent on the weather. They have a large selection of flavours to choose from, all with a very sweet aftertaste. My personal favourite would be grape, but others like green apple and strawberry aren't too shabby either. The food is equally as pleasing, with a simple yet delicious menu of Arabic specialties. The chicken yiros has to be my all-time favourite, yet I'm also a big fan of their hot dogs. No matter your choice, it's always satisfying. Their coffee isn't great, and I think if they served Arabic coffee instead it would complete the experience. And if that's not enough, the shop owners are implementing a PS3 gaming system in the lounge area - if they get the games right, I don't think I'll ever need to leave. Smoking shisha whilst playing video games can't be anything short of brilliant.

There are a few shisha venues along the Hindley Street strip but Horus is the oldest and my…read morefavourite. It has managed to stick around when others have failed, largely because of the quality of the shisha, the sense of community the place attracts, and because it is open when others are not. The staff are expert at the etiquette and use of shisha, and certainly don't mind assisting the newcomer. Although in Hindley Street, you're more likely to see friends playing cards than you are a pack of drunks, and Horus is not a licensed premise. If people are bothersome, the staff are quick to act and I always feel safe. The shishas are professionally assembled and I have never been short-changed in tobacco. Staff are continuously outside with containers of coal, ensuring you get the most out of your shisha. Unlike some other places in town, there is no deposit required for shisha use and there are multiple flavours and two sizes. I've been told that they will be getting new stock in soon, including my personal favourite "cappuccino". The owner, Yasser, let me test a new combination "watermelon and mint" which was ok, but I will be sticking to my staple of "grape and mint", at least until the "cappuccino" arrives. Since smoking laws have relegated shisha users to the patch of sidewalk outside, the decor of the inside has slipped a little, though the toilets have certainly improved. Aforementioned toilets are located towards the back of the business behind a door marked "staff only" to discourage use by unscrupulous non-customers, but I always use them and patron-use is fine. Occasionally on the weekends you will have to wait inside for a table to be free outside to smoke a shisha. In the summer time, the experience of smoking a shisha outside can't be beat, but winter along Hindley Street can be bitter and I usually take gloves. As far as the food is concerned, it is a simple kebab shop, but all ingredients are made fresh daily, which is also why I think their kebabs are the best in town. The quality of the falafel and the tabouli is particularly good. Horus also provides pots of mint tea, made just as thoughtfully as they do everything else.

Walking down Gilbert Place you can hear the laughter and chatter from its patrons. Hains & Co draws you in from afar with it's cute and stylish exterior. It's bar opens to the street side allowing customers to set up a stall and have a drink outside. This will be perfect for summer and this area is heated for the winter. it is very comfortable! The best part of this bar is the styling within. Walking through the door you immediately transcend from the alley to the deck of a ship. The back room is cleverly furbished with old style booths and the ceiling features a wooden roof like the birth of a boat. There are old chesterfield lounges and almost steampunk styled chairs with a mix of metal and wood. There is a lot of love and planning in the design of this bar. The bar itself is dressed and lit with gorgeous woven rope lighting. The bar holds an impressive collection of rum & gin amongst other liquors. There is also changing tap of craft beer and a welcoming menu of cocktails to choose from. The handsome staff and owner are experts in the way of Gin & Rum, feel free to speak to them about recommendations. The cheese platter I ordered features one of my favs D'argental, a truffle brie and cheddar. It is served with grapes, home smoked almonds, lavosh, and dried currents. This is perfect with a fine wine or cocktail on a Friday afternoon. As for the rest of the menu, I am told that the sausage roll is truly divine. I look forward to trying it. Finally, I have to admit Hains & Co is now one of my favourite bars in Adelaide. I am drawn to it. I am really overjoyed to have it grace our streets.

It is so refreshing. If you're not looking hard enough you would easily miss it. Walk in and it's like the prohibition era, from the grungy shelves to the dark, moody decor and booths to the sad music. It is easily one of the best themed cocktail bars in Adelaide. Drinks are fantastic. Some bars have expensive drinks for not much and they don't taste great. Not at Baddog, they are top notch and the barman does it right in front of you on the bar so you don't miss a thing. Brilliant. Best find of the year for me so far.

Excluding a fresh coat of paint, updated carpet, the front bar bar is still in original form (including the regulars that drink there). Look out for the snake bite specials, going out at 10 bucks a jug. You can still catch a local rock/punk band playing on your favourite night of the week (I can't remember what night that is). A step through the corridor and past an ATM, will take you to another bar with big screen TV's and a decent coctail menu. Bi-fold glass doors open up to Moseley Square. This place is more upmarket, so leave your flannel shirt and the previous bar, and whack on your Don Travisty instead. If you're over front bar action, head to rear bistro which has the vibe and decor that reflects a Goldcoast Casino in the 90's. The schnittys are hot, and still at fair bistro prices.
