A succinct comment from my esteemed, handsome, highly valued colleague: it's like a country pub in the cbd.
The James Place Hotel (JPH) is an unassuming, casual restaurant/bar with a pokies room downstairs away from the eating/drinking area that does top grub at very reasonable prices. Plus! They do some cracker specials...so many specials! Yes, there are a couple of tv screens on the walls, and yes, the clientele are regular and pretty much furniture fixtures, but that's what gives this place a sense of comfort and enjoyability...if you are so inclined. You could say it's a local Adelaideans hotel if anything. Maybe not one high on the tourist trail, but not every venue can or should cater to the out-of-towners.
I am certainly happy that JPH exists in the cbd for a great option for Friday lunch or after work beers to unwind from the working week.
Check the website for specials and happy hours. Worth a look if you're in the area and want a relaxed enjoyable beverage.
The food has vastly improved over the past few months and all four of us enjoyed our respective meals.
A hidden gem in the CBD that, although not serving beers in undersized mason jars and overpriced cocktails that take forever to make, is a winner in my books. read more
