Walking down Gilbert Place you can hear the laughter and chatter from its patrons. Hains & Co draws you in from afar with it's cute and stylish exterior. It's bar opens to the street side allowing customers to set up a stall and have a drink outside. This will be perfect for summer and this area is heated for the winter. it is very comfortable! The best part of this bar is the styling within. Walking through the door you immediately transcend from the alley to the deck of a ship. The back room is cleverly furbished with old style booths and the ceiling features a wooden roof like the birth of a boat. There are old chesterfield lounges and almost steampunk styled chairs with a mix of metal and wood. There is a lot of love and planning in the design of this bar. The bar itself is dressed and lit with gorgeous woven rope lighting. The bar holds an impressive collection of rum & gin amongst other liquors. There is also changing tap of craft beer and a welcoming menu of cocktails to choose from. The handsome staff and owner are experts in the way of Gin & Rum, feel free to speak to them about recommendations. The cheese platter I ordered features one of my favs D'argental, a truffle brie and cheddar. It is served with grapes, home smoked almonds, lavosh, and dried currents. This is perfect with a fine wine or cocktail on a Friday afternoon. As for the rest of the menu, I am told that the sausage roll is truly divine. I look forward to trying it. Finally, I have to admit Hains & Co is now one of my favourite bars in Adelaide. I am drawn to it. I am really overjoyed to have it grace our streets.

Although this place is somewhat past its prime, I still think it's great! Additionally, since it's downstairs from Scoozi, why not grab a pizza before heading down for delicious cocktails.

I absolutely LOVE the delicious array of cocktails here however I can't stand the amount of time that you have to spend waiting for them (hence the deduction of two stars) - it really does just get excessive sometimes, however polish off a drink or two and you won't even notice the waiting time! A great place to drink and not be disrupted by too much noise or, if you please you still can dance the night away - because you definitely will want to after downing a couple drinks! The main issue here: I can't remember which drinks to recommend as I always get a little tipsy...although I do recall the Long Island Iced Tea was decent - they also do funky Rainbow Shots which are fun for birthdays and the like!

The rooftop bar only contains a few tables, but the inside is well-appointed with its own great views. The menu contains signature cocktails, including the Honey Trap - a dangerously tasty alcoholic beverage version of a lemon-honey Halls cough drop. Yum! The food menu is limited - especially for vegetarians. But the cheese straws are delightfully moreish and soak up the alcohol nicely. The music selection was eclectic when we were there, ranging from Amy Winehouse to some odd electronic jazz. The bartenders are great but the cocktail waitress on the night was clearly new and lacking in confidence. I predict this will be the scene of many happy catch-ups in the future!

I am one who fits into the second category, and generally shudder when a venue with a smorgasbord is suggested. The other thing that annoys me with this travesty of a food option is that most gorge themselves on crap that is either regarded as nibbles or fast food. My brain hurts. Anywho, the Buckingham Arms is famous in Adelaide for their Smorgasbord, infact, prior to the near by Walkers Arms sprucing up their digs, it was known as the best to be found. There is a huge selection to choose from, but no one dish that really would be of a good standard on its own (which is usually the case with these places). The rest of the place is a pretty standard pub. Front bar/sports bar, Pokie lounge and bottle 'o' out the back. If you are a fan of the sneeze guards, soft serve machines and waiting for the beef and black bean to be refilled then this is one of the top ones around. My horse for a Parmy and chips! They do have al a carte options in the other areas if you are desperate!

There is also a jukebox, that also plays the matching music videos, so you can decide what terrible classic you want to listen to whilst attempting to hit balls into pockets. I really enjoy the atmosphere up there. I have never felt uncomfortable and it is even suitable for families with teenage children. The Ballroom was one of my favourite places to go, and was a good way to spend a boring night on The Parade. Back then I wasn't too bad at sinking a few, but nowadays I try to save myself the embarrassment. The Ballroom would be a perfect place to shoot a bar fight. It's dark and a little seedy, but not too intimidating. There are plenty of pool tables available and the place is hardly ever busy, so you won't have to worry about waiting. In the event that you do have to wait for a table, you can always grab a drink from the bar and hang around or watch some of the other players flex their skills. The jukebox is also another great source of entertainment with tonnes of old hits - although I don't think the majority of the patrons would appreciate playing a game of pool to Vengaboys, so it might be a good idea to stay away from the pop one hit wonders!

What I do love about this space is that it is well priced, open, well sized, funky, colourful and you can pretty much work the space you want it. There is nothing to navigate around; and there is great acoustics and lighting. There is some pretty cool street art on the walls and the decor is really funky and eclectic. So, you don't really need to do much to dress up the room. It already looks really great. The other bonus is it is just outside of the CBD and there is free street parking! Your guests will love that! If you need it, you can make great use out of the photography backdrop. You can project onto it or use it for your own photography for your event. It was a brilliant backdrop to my photos of guests. If you do have a catered event, there is a space to the side of the main Venue room you can use with easy street access.
