Horus has been one of my favourite spots on Hindley Street for years. Whether it be the food or the…read moreshisha, both are an experience you surely won't forget. You have the option of smoking shisha indoors or outside, which makes your option largely dependent on the weather. They have a large selection of flavours to choose from, all with a very sweet aftertaste. My personal favourite would be grape, but others like green apple and strawberry aren't too shabby either. The food is equally as pleasing, with a simple yet delicious menu of Arabic specialties. The chicken yiros has to be my all-time favourite, yet I'm also a big fan of their hot dogs. No matter your choice, it's always satisfying. Their coffee isn't great, and I think if they served Arabic coffee instead it would complete the experience. And if that's not enough, the shop owners are implementing a PS3 gaming system in the lounge area - if they get the games right, I don't think I'll ever need to leave. Smoking shisha whilst playing video games can't be anything short of brilliant.

There are a few shisha venues along the Hindley Street strip but Horus is the oldest and my…read morefavourite. It has managed to stick around when others have failed, largely because of the quality of the shisha, the sense of community the place attracts, and because it is open when others are not. The staff are expert at the etiquette and use of shisha, and certainly don't mind assisting the newcomer. Although in Hindley Street, you're more likely to see friends playing cards than you are a pack of drunks, and Horus is not a licensed premise. If people are bothersome, the staff are quick to act and I always feel safe. The shishas are professionally assembled and I have never been short-changed in tobacco. Staff are continuously outside with containers of coal, ensuring you get the most out of your shisha. Unlike some other places in town, there is no deposit required for shisha use and there are multiple flavours and two sizes. I've been told that they will be getting new stock in soon, including my personal favourite "cappuccino". The owner, Yasser, let me test a new combination "watermelon and mint" which was ok, but I will be sticking to my staple of "grape and mint", at least until the "cappuccino" arrives. Since smoking laws have relegated shisha users to the patch of sidewalk outside, the decor of the inside has slipped a little, though the toilets have certainly improved. Aforementioned toilets are located towards the back of the business behind a door marked "staff only" to discourage use by unscrupulous non-customers, but I always use them and patron-use is fine. Occasionally on the weekends you will have to wait inside for a table to be free outside to smoke a shisha. In the summer time, the experience of smoking a shisha outside can't be beat, but winter along Hindley Street can be bitter and I usually take gloves. As far as the food is concerned, it is a simple kebab shop, but all ingredients are made fresh daily, which is also why I think their kebabs are the best in town. The quality of the falafel and the tabouli is particularly good. Horus also provides pots of mint tea, made just as thoughtfully as they do everything else.

It is so refreshing. If you're not looking hard enough you would easily miss it. Walk in and it's like the prohibition era, from the grungy shelves to the dark, moody decor and booths to the sad music. It is easily one of the best themed cocktail bars in Adelaide. Drinks are fantastic. Some bars have expensive drinks for not much and they don't taste great. Not at Baddog, they are top notch and the barman does it right in front of you on the bar so you don't miss a thing. Brilliant. Best find of the year for me so far.

The waist coats, crystal glasses and twisted stainless steel and silver spoons all work to make this a top spot for a cocktail or cheeky beer. A maestro of the common and rare cocktails and a range of spirits you wont find in many bars Zack makes this bar. Sitting at the bar is mandatory for the first drink in my opinion then sneak off to the lux booths for quiet and intimate drinks. Its dark, has very cool décor and edgy clean bathrooms. Bad Dog Bar doesn't have tvs, doesn't have pokies and doesn't have tap beer and for goodness sakes never order an apple-tini :) and that's the way we like it. Top Tip: order the pickleback - rye bourbon shot followed by some freshly made pickle juice. The SMoking Joint cocktail is also a fav!

Okay, maybe these days, in my post nightclub life, I'm not really all that keen on coming here anymore, and also because I no longer live in Adelaide, but this place certainly does bring back some awesome memories. Yeah, this was definitely one of these pretty hip nightclubs, and also it was one of those places that were never really all that crowded. In fact, it was one of those places where people who weren't all that keen on pop music, would end up coming too. The fact that it is still around certainly pays testament to the fact that this is one of those one of a kind places, especially in a world where nightclubs come and go any nobody's business.

The club has a modern feel, with good use of white space and a well designed bar stretched across the right hand side. There is a dance floor space to let your hair down, quiet booths for those who are looking for more intimate conversations, or pool tables are set up on the other side to distract the more socially awkward. TV screens are scattered about playing footage of 1950's porn and local art is featured on the side wall. The venue's open floorplan also overlooks Rundle Street. The staff are friendly, and the bouncers have personality. They generally open after 9pm and the doors are usually open until the early hours of the AM. Last time I was there I was drinking shots of Raging Bull. My advice is to keep the Tabasco out of your eye. Great place to stop by for a big night, no matter what day of the week.

If you get out at Pulteney on Rundle Mall, walk straight up maybe a block and the hotel is on the right. Best thing to do: Look for the big Kmart sign; it's across from there. It would be a lovely venue for a special event, like a wedding party or birthday party. There's a mix of all kinds of seating and tables. It's kind of art deco plus some other decorating touches. Nice place for a romantic dinner. There's a full bar and menu. I chose the burger to take up to my room. This was in the evening and the instructions were to order at the bar. I've found that restaurant food is expensive in Australia, and even a bit higher here. But the burger was big and came with fries and even a few onion rings. The soda I had was priced about the same as other places. Strangley although I had specified takeaway, it came out on a plate. I wasn't given napkins or anything. When it was brought out to me, a french fry fell off. The bartender saw it, made a comment about it, and then just left it on the floor, which I thought was odd. She didn't come back, so I picked it up. Another fry fell off, so now I lost two. I couldn't find a trash bin and the two bartenders were busy, so I left the fallen fries on a counter. The burger was good, nice and juicy. It was topped with bacon and the usual suspects of lettuce and tomato. There was a mayo topping that seemed to have a mild kick. It comes with beetroot relish but I asked that it be left off. The fries and onion rings were crispy outside. At first they smelled a bit fishy - must have used the same oil - but thankfully they did not taste fishy. It was a satisfying meal, the hit of protein and fiber I needed. The restaurant can be reached by stairs or elevator, so it is accessible. However, I did not use the restroom, so I do not know if it is accessible. There are Happy Hour specials. Check them out.

The cocktails here are truly unique and now having collectively tried quite a few with partner and friends I can't find fault. (My personal favourite is the Violet Champagne Cocktail.) The setting is luxuriously decadent and seductive, the cocktails seduce even more and the alcoholic ambience is stupendous. A Sydney friend makes this her only must do whenever in Adelaide. Not that us Radelaideans need to compare ourselves in anyway - do we?
