Collins Cocktail heaven…read more The Collins will spoil you for all time -everywhere in the world (well maybe not the Traders Bar on the 33rd floor of the Sheraton sipping a Rose Lychee martini overlooking the Twin Towers in KL - are you green with cocktail envy?!) This is my special night out or even not so special night out starting point. The cocktails here are truly unique and now having collectively tried quite a few with partner and friends I can't find fault. (My personal favourite is the Violet Champagne Cocktail.) The setting is luxuriously decadent and seductive, the cocktails seduce even more and the alcoholic ambience is stupendous. A Sydney friend makes this her only must do whenever in Adelaide. Not that us Radelaideans need to compare ourselves in anyway - do we? I can't rave much more except to hint that whether it's Valentine's day, Birthday, Anniversary, Chinese New Year, Haven't Seen Old Friend's For Ages or you've just had a shitty week at work make a beeline for The Collins. If you are someone who hates making decisions, this tiny hole in the wall, 65 person bar has already made half of them for you. Their simple menu includes 3 beers on tap and a selection of craft brews by the bottle, 3 whites and 3 reds by the glass, a selection of wines by the bottle and then any cocktail you request can be made. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable about all of the drinks on offer and make a point of telling you about what you are drinking, what it tastes like, or giving you recommendations. There are also only 4 food items on the menu - Coriole Olives, Pickels and 2 charcuterie boards made from The Charcuterie (a spin off from Lucia's Deli in the Central Market). We had the duck pate which doesn't sound or look that appetising but is actually not a paste but more of a shredded duck in pork belly fat goodness. The proscuitto platter again only came with bread and pickles but it didn't need anything else because of the quality of meat - it was a young cut of meat so not too typically proscuitto salty, very thinly sliced but still not bland. Now I have to warn all those typical Adelaidians our there who "refuse to line up." At 7pm on a Friday the line up was about 8 persons deep but we were inside within 20 minutes. Because this isn't a bar for spending hours and hours at people move in and out pretty quickly. So suck it up princess because CLT is worth the wait.

Uncharacteristically hip for Adelaide, there need to be more bars, as aesthetically pleasing as the lotus lounge. Only complaint was that it was really stuffy and boiling when we were there around midnight - obviously thoroughly warmed up from it being brimming with bodies since the afternoon. Could do with a touch better ventilation in some pockets of the bar perhaps. Otherwise MM is a great cocktail bar with a hefty range of cocktails and a cool place to introduce to your friends.

This was my first experience trying moonshine, funnily enough it doesn't come in those stereotypical hillbilly ceramic jugs and there are actually quite a few varieties. Their moonshine comes imported from interstate or all the way from Tennessee. I spent a few minutes picking different jars off the shelf to have a smell and get a bit of a story for each one, the staff are definitely experts. The flavoured moonshines go well with soda water, but if you want something a bit more creative, Mississippi Moon offers a few mixed moonshine cocktails including my new favourite; Ole Smoky Apple Pie moonshine, apple juice and cinnamon. Bar staff are the friendliest you'll meet on a Friday night on the west end, even had a few games of UNO with some other punters over the bar. Decor has a cosy, modern and 'Southern' vibe, will probably seat around 20 people at a guess. Definitely a highlight of a night in town, will hopefully get another chance to Mississippi Moon.

The crew at Tenth & Gibson went out of their way to help me out with my event. No matter my enquiry, they found a way to assist and support what I needed. What I do love about this space is that it is well priced, open, well sized, funky, colourful and you can pretty much work the space you want it. There is nothing to navigate around; and there is great acoustics and lighting. There is some pretty cool street art on the walls and the decor is really funky and eclectic. So, you don't really need to do much to dress up the room. It already looks really great. The other bonus is it is just outside of the CBD and there is free street parking! Your guests will love that! If you need it, you can make great use out of the photography backdrop. You can project onto it or use it for your own photography for your event. It was a brilliant backdrop to my photos of guests. If you do have a catered event, there is a space to the side of the main Venue room you can use with easy street access. Speak to the staff about using this. I was absolutely delighted to have used Tenth & Gibson for an event. It is by far one of my favourite venues in Adelaide and I recommend it to anyone looking for a space for large or small events.
