2KW is fantastic! 8 stories high, it is a gorgeous rooftop bar/restaurant that offers an amazing view of the River Torrens including some of Adelaide's most famous landmarks, The Festival Center, Adelaide Oval and St Peter's Cathedral. The outside area is quite spacious with a number of large (10 seater) booths available for hire. There is also live music/djs and gorgeous seats, plants and festoons creating a wonderful chilled atmosphere. The restaurant area is both trendy and classic - not the silver service I was expecting but still exceptional service with many staff to answer any questions you may have, including their knowledgeable sommelier James. We sat at the 'chefs' table which allowed you to see into their tiny kitchen and see all the chefs at work. It's quite incredible to see and lovely to have the opportunity to chat with Head Chef Nick if he's not too busy! 2KW offer pizzas and other small foods if you sit on the deck, however in the restaurant dishes are larger and recommended for sharing. We had the tuna sashimi (amazing!), croquettes, slow cooked baby octopus (best I've ever had) and duck (sooo good! The sauce was amazing!) We also had a bottle of wine and for dessert the Panna Cotta (HIGHLY recommend oh my god yum! If you love honey get this) and also the stone fruit which was equally as pleasing. Do yourself a treat and get to 2KW ASAP! It's busiest on a Friday or Saturday so head on up on a Sunday if you're after a more chilled experience!

The first thing I loved about 2KW was the adventure just to get there. First you have to find the door that leads you into the lobby, then the lift, that leads you to arrows, that lead you to another lift, that leads you to more arrows... And finally you reach the restaurant and feel like you've discovered a new planet or something!! Our group of 3 hadn't made a booking for lunch and we were lucky to get a spot at the long window table (perhaps arriving when they opened helped us there). Our waiter was unbelievably attentive and even continued to act interested when one of my companions launched into a rather long talk about her heritage!! He was also great at helping us select how many dishes to order and explaining a lot of the menu to us. One of the ladies dining with me was pregnant so he whipped up a non alcoholic cocktail for her and also helped us know which menu items to avoid. I appreciate it when your waiter has this sort of extra knowledge! Despite being a fairly fancy place, 2KW's food is designed for sharing, which I loved because I wanted to try so many things! We ended up ordering 2 entrees and 3 medium plates to share and there was plenty of food. I could definitely have eaten more but also definitely did not need to! The food itself was amazing. Everything we ordered was just delicious, and seemed so fresh. The standout for me was probably the mushrooms, and as a starter the olives were delicious and a very generous serve. At the end of the meal all of us felt satisfied but not heavy - the food was filling but light and not drowning in oil or fat. We were all very happy when our meal (including drinks) came out to about $35 each. For the sort of food we had, along with the amazing venue and excellent service, I felt this was great value. I'll definitely be back again to try more of the menu!

If you're looking for above and beyond, 2KW is willing to do just that!. I had order the "Let us feed you" $65 pp and let me just say, that's exactly what happened. Was more then overwhelmed, when the portion sizes of each dish got slightly to much for two people. But I can say that each one where spot on, tasted and presented more then perfect. Also just to note, if you order a bottle of wine. I promise you that your glass is never empty, with the service that is provided at 2KW, the staff are constantly filling you back up.

It didn't take 2KW long to get popular when they first opened. I remember the first week there were lines down the street at night. I think that it's location played a massive part in this. It is set on a rooftop with a view over the Government House Grounds & Memorial Gardens. The view is absolutely gorgeous! In fact, it is worth waiting in a line to see if you haven't already. But it is not all about the view at 2KW. A view is nice, but I am a foodie and I want my taste buds impressed as well. My companions and I decided to order a few meals and share. I love dining with people who share their meals, that way I get to try more. We had some marinated McLaren Vale Olives, can't go wrong with that starter. It was complimented with fresh chillies and pickled vegetables. Then onto the Octopus & Chorizo. It's like the pair were meant to be together. The saltiness of the Chorizo almost brought more flavour out of the Octopus. It was grilled and cooked well without being chewy. As a treat, steak tartare, well seasoned and fresh. Then onto the Roast Duck. Anytime I see duck on the menu, I find it hard to say no. Glad we ordered it as the marinate perfect, spiced and salty. However, I feel that the duck was over cooked. It was a little dry. Might have just been left to cook a little too long. Onto my favourite, the Kangaroo Shank. Well, kudos to the chef. A sweet marinate that detracts the gaminess of Kangaroo. The meat fell from the bone and sauce was absorbed by the cous cous below. I would return for that meal alone and I recommend it to anyone coming to this restaurant. As for the beverage list, well there is a fine choice. Everything from very upmarket wines and beer to the more affordable kinds. So, there is something to suit most budgets. Table service is attentive and friendly. If you have a special occasion or want to show off, this is where you take your guests.

June 2016 update- Winter makeover inside and outside, 2KW even cooler. Food and wine now dearer and smaller serves. Crazy good deserts! All the food great except one dish with the whole cooked prawns was terrible, whole prawns with the head are ok on a bbq or boiled but in a pan cooked dish they impart the smell and taste of the part you don't eat, hence the dish smelt and tasted of 'it ' and they were mushy as well. World class view, surprisingly casual yet very good food and wine and nice staff, people complain about $14 beers on the out door deck but that's your admission fee and you have wood fired oven pizza if you want a cheap food option. Considering the view it's amazing and in the restaurant they have nice wines for $12 a glass. Tommy ruff was great. Do tapas if you have a group.

The view at night is gorgeous. There is an area for those who want a quite night with a few best friends, kids are also welcomed. But it was really packed and not enough seats. At some point we had to squeezed through a gap between people and a table and we almost knocked down others drinks. This is the first time I've been here. I ordered the 2KW drink. It was alright, not as good as I thought it would be. The only thing I didn't really like about this place is that the DJ was not really doing anything at all, he was only playing some music, didn't even try to mix some records. Maybe they don't really pay much attention to music but I do.

Took my partner here for a date night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Took the advice of reviewers online by ordering two small, two medium and two large plates too share (which we ended up getting one medium and one large instead, as there were no large vegetarian options) and we were so full that we didn't finish it! Definitely would have been fine with just two small and two medium plates between the two of us. Food was yum! Loved the mushrooms and the falafel salad! Presentation was fabulous. Went on a Sunday night and it was a bit loud inside... Not really ideal for a romantic date night. Can't see the view unless you go outside either. Not sure why they're so pretentious with the dress code, as it's more of a chilled out 'hipster' vibe inside. Felt a bit silly with a nice dress and heels on. Would return again, but perhaps not as dressed up.

I asked him why and he asked how many drinks I had and I told him (3). He accused me of lying and said that I was sent over to him because I was too drunk. I was pretty clear with him that I was not lying and I was clearly not drunk, talking fine, standing fine, and so on. He told me to go speak to the other guy again. When I did, he asked me how many drinks I had, and I answered, he laughed and said "if you were honest I would have let you in" which was obviously a lie because he was not planning on letting me in anyway. He told me to go back to the other guy and said "he's the boss go talk to him". When I spoke to him, I asked him why he thought I was drunk and he kept giving childish responses like "nothing, I'm kicking you out for no reason" and "the police are walking past if you want to ask them". I told him that he was obviously saying it to get rid of me because the police were not going to make them let me in. At this point, my friend who had been let in, was waiting for me at the side of the entrance, where he was told he was allowed to stand but after he mentioned that he was waiting for me, the bouncer that checked my ID and his buddy grabbed him under the arms and threw him into me. Then the guy I was sent to and the guy that checked my ID (and assaulted my friend) kept saying "it's not my decision, go speak to the other guy" amongst other things like telling me I'm "bullshitting" and to "piss off". By this point it was obvious the guy I was sent to and two guys that assaulted my friend were making fun of me by sending me back and fourth because they kept looking at each other and laughing while being rude to me. Then when I got annoyed at them for laughing, they started yelling at us and the security manager came out and pulled me and my friend aside to talk to me about what happened. He explained that they have a job to do and it is within their rights to decline someone based on a "visual assessment" of how drunk someone is. I acknowledged that, but I made a point of how rude they were in doing so, and how they did not even tell me what was going on until I asked. He said that he still cannot let me in because he has to stand by their decisions, which is pretty poor given the fact that I had demonstrated that I was not intoxicated like they were saying. He was agreeing with whatever I said to him and it was clear to me that he was just trying to get rid of me and my friend, he said that he will review the footage and if what I am saying is true, it will be addressed. Then I asked if I could be let know what the outcome was, his response was "these guys are pretty replaceable, if you don't see them standing here, then you know it was dealt with". Was annoying because if he handled the situation properly, he would have gotten my contact details. He obviously had no plans of addressing the situation and advised us to go somewhere else to continue the night (it was 15 minutes before lockout at this point), but my question is, if he thought that I was sober enough to go somewhere else, why not let us in here? Needless to say, I was really annoyed at what had happened, and even more annoyed that after having agreed with me that what happened was wrong. The manager still didn't let me in or do anything to resolve the situation beyond speaking to me (i.e getting my contact details, asking them to apologies, or letting me in). Even after having written an email to rocket rooftop bar about it, I was not surprised when I was not told how this was dealt with and the same people were standing at the door when I returned, giving me the same attitude.

The staff are incredibly knowledgeable about all of the drinks on offer and make a point of telling you about what you are drinking, what it tastes like, or giving you recommendations. There are also only 4 food items on the menu - Coriole Olives, Pickels and 2 charcuterie boards made from The Charcuterie (a spin off from Lucia's Deli in the Central Market). We had the duck pate which doesn't sound or look that appetising but is actually not a paste but more of a shredded duck in pork belly fat goodness. The proscuitto platter again only came with bread and pickles but it didn't need anything else because of the quality of meat - it was a young cut of meat so not too typically proscuitto salty, very thinly sliced but still not bland. Now I have to warn all those typical Adelaidians our there who "refuse to line up." At 7pm on a Friday the line up was about 8 persons deep but we were inside within 20 minutes. Because this isn't a bar for spending hours and hours at people move in and out pretty quickly. So suck it up princess because CLT is worth the wait.

I heard they do good steaks but I was craving for a burger so being the smart me, I ordered a steak burger. Turns out there wasn't 20% off this one but it was a good deal of $10 with any drink of your choice! We also ordered the 300g rump steak and the Panko crumbed prawns, which consisted of a good serve of 10 prawns, tartare sauce, chips and salad. Much to my disappointment, my order was forgotten and I had to wait for half an hour before it arrived. The waitress was very kind and apologised for the delay and even offered me another drink! I was going to turn a blind eye to the food delay until I bit into my burger! The steak patty was chewy and I just could not take another bite. At this point, it was already past 8.30pm which is when the kitchen closes but the waitress was again, kind enough to re-make my order. I decided to swap to Panko crumbed prawns instead and they happily did it for me. Overall, I wouldn't say this was a completely bad experience. Yes, the steak burger is a definitely a no-no for me on my next visit but the rump steak, which I got to taste, was surprisingly quite tender. Rum is the thing at Bar Cuba (Surprise!) and though I'm not a huge fan of rum usually, they make delicious cocktails and as the saying goes, when in Cuba... The music is a mix of soul funk and jazz and the people lounging around may appear casual but their dress certainly is not. This place is booked for functions a fair way ahead so if you want to have a party here you've got to be organised. And here's a hot tip: having your gig here is not a cheap venture. If you don't have the cash you can always do as we've done in the past and gate crash more wealthy people's parties. You didn't read this but... we may have snuck in on occasion. Or better yet, subtly convince your friends to have functions here so you can attend. Yeah... do that.

The bartender Matt is amazingly awesome and will concoct whatever drink you can imagine. He does it with pleasure and his enthusiasm is infectious. Then there is the owner Anna , A wine connoisseur with the taste and talent to pair the perfect wine to the perfect dish. We started out with the yellow fin tuna appetizer paired with the perfect Pinot Grigio, it was fabulous! The cubes of fresh tuna light coated in sesame seeds, the squash compote and paprika that delicately decorated the plate, Then there was the watermelon cubes that after enjoying your slice of tuna refreshed your pallet so perfectly before you enjoyed the next morsel of tuna, pleasantly back and forth with sips of the delicious well balanced Pinot Grigio. It was like the opening act at the symphony, orchestra. For our main course, the orchestra conductor stepped up the tempo of harmonious delights. The presentation of food, the fabulous, delicious, flavors were all in synchronized harmony. My wife chose the pork cutlets I chose the rib eye Anna help us pair them with the perfect Pinot Noir from Adaline area. Magnificently, smooth and delicious, yet light spicy with light cherry notes that went well with our dinner this evening it paired magnificently. The meals: my wife's pork cutlet so soft and tender seasoned to perfection it naturally just falls apart in your mouth. The quinoa, and fresh, sweet, tender, beets that surrounded the pork cutlet elevated it to a heavenly state, moist tender, delicious full of flavors, the greens on the plate accented it to a meal for the Gods. The Rib eye steak is nothing like you would ever expect to be served stateside. It was far above the average standard cut of restaurant steak. Moist, tender, and perfectly prepared. There was no need to chew the morsel, because once you placed it in your mouth your taste buds jump-up in excitement. While dancing around in your mouth they made the morsel of ribeye, just melt away on your tongue. The green beans are as if they were just picked directly from the plant. The cherry tomatoes when you popped them in your mouth the juice and flavor of just one tiny tomato was like you had the most perfectly prepared bowl of fresh tomato soup in front of you. Each and every single morsel of this meal was like a Concerto in your mouth and you mind, simultaneously deleting, and enlightening each & everyone of the senses in your entire body. All of this in the Ambience of the 1860 treasury architectural design building. If you are in the area, I highly recommend you set up a reservation, set time a side and enjoy a fabulous meal, a fabulous wine, with a fabulous owner who knows her stuff. Anna is full of energy. She knows how to make sure each and every customer has the meal of their life! Bon appétit.

Hellllooooooo..... Brklyn! A new kid on the block has set up shop (or you could call it three)…read moresitting above Rundle Street. This bar is really doing something different. Set to feel like a side street in a town, you will notice a subway chair on entry and three small stores. First up a deli prepping cured meat awesomeness, next up a barber and finally a recording studio. And yes, there is a barber set up on Friday night to get a cut while you enjoy a few drinks. It is quite well set up and really does create a different feeling in a bar. You are stepping off Rundle Street onto another street upstairs. In the middle you will find a long bar and a range of booths. Bottles of spirits line the back and four taps for brews. The cocktail menu has some twists to old favourites. I went for The Dreamer as I am a whisky girl. It was a good cocktail, a little acidic and fresh. It was a good cocktail, but nothing that really stands out in a crowd for $20. Next time I will order the Old Fashioned which had some coconut in it from memory. Interesting. What I really like about this bar is the aesthetics. It's almost trying to create an experience that no one else is doing with the shop fronts. I think it's quite clever. The owner here is a real sweetheart and really trying to do something different. Give it a few months and I think that this bar will be pumping! Well done for effort and looking forward to see this bar grow.

We almost walked past it, it is only an entrance door and hidden between two eateries. Up the stairs you face a subway like waiting room and a 'secret' door. Heading through you pass a sandwich bar, barber and private DJ room. We moved on straight to the bar and were greeted by friendly staff and were quick to seat us at the bar, although there was plenty of seating as it was only around 7pm. The bartender knew his stuff and quickly made me 'Pistols at Dawn' a smashing mix of chipotle fused tequila with capsicum, lime and cucumber. It was absolutely amazing and so tasty. We got to talking to the bar staff and they really knew their stuff, making my partner a cocktail off the menu. The ambience was great, music was loudish but set the scene for the NYC style bar. The seats close to the windows offered some great people watching opportunities. The menu looked great, mainly snack food but offering NYC style pastrami sandwiches, they sounded so good-why did we just have dinner!? Definitely worth putting on your cocktail list - 5 stars for service and knowledge a 5 stars for taste and accuracy. Wish I could critique the food - maybe next time. This is a bar definitely on my plus list. This reminds me of the cool funky bars you get in London or even definitely NY and I would be heading back soon for sure.
