Camargos - Yelp Review Stopped by Camargos to try their green chile burrito, and it was a solid meal! The green chile is what makes or breaks a burrito for me, and overall, this one was a good experience. Definitely worth checking out if you're craving a green chile burrito in Colorado. There's always room for improvement, but I enjoyed it and would consider coming back to try more of the menu. Overall rating: 4/5 stars! read more

First let me start by saying, I have been a patron of this restaurant for over 45 yrs. The old man is absolutely horrible!! Worst customer service ever!! literally harassed me for not wanting cheese. Then when my friend ordered no beans and he put them anyway. When she brought it to his attention, he smirked and said " that's why you don't have a husband!! Like he knows her personally!! He has in the past refused to make my cargo special because I can't eat cheese. His son however is very professional. read more

Rude AF like always!!!...Would rate 0 starts if I could. The mouthy little kid at the register been taking lessons for the old man...he said go to Chubby's if you want free salsa and this is what you pay for homemade salsa...after I complained about salsa being $1 for a tiny salsa meanwhile I got 4 burritos. He also said at least he got $30 out of me when I said I wouldn't come back. Carnitas were dry and bland and the salsa was NOT EVEN GOOD tasted like a smushed up jalapeño, no seasoning or anything!! bean and cheese went downhill too!!!!! And I will go to chubbys or, viva or La Mexicana (iykyk) or Santiago's... anywhere but here. Don't waste your money with people who don't appreciate it! read more

Well my mother grew up going there and so did I and we always love coming here the food never disappoints and the people never disappoint so yes I would definitely recommend it here read more

Whoever works here at this time July 9th at 8:58p that man is an asshole. I came in to see if they sell bottled sodas and they don't. He yelled "WHAT THE FUCK" i apologized for the inconvenience of having to make him do the job he's being paid to do when in fact it he didn't even have to anything anyways since they don't sell bottled sodas. Now he's standing outside the establishment staring at me as I wait for the bus to come by. This man is making me feel extremely unsafe. First and last time I visit that place for anything. I was going to still buy a canned soda until he cussed at me. read more

I discovered my favorite burrito at Camargos by accident when my husband brought home takeaway a few months ago. He ordered breakfast burritos (which we'd had before, I liked them okay- they put beans in them and I'm more of a cheese, eggs, potatoes, chile only kind of girl. Personal preference) but when he got home and we opened them up we'd gotten smothered bean and cheese. Too hungry/lazy to go back, we went ahead and ate them and I'm so glad we did. Turns out I love their smothered bean and cheese burrito. It's so good. (I don't have pictures because my takeaway box flipped and the results were NOT pretty, even though they still tasted good.) The beans are really flavorful and their tortillas are homemade and kind of thicker than usual, but that's even better for soaking up the chile, which has a little kick but isn't too spicy. I didn't rate this 5 stars because my husband won't go back with me anymore after trying their chorizo burrito which admittedly was a bit rough. You have to order from a window in the parking lot next to the entrance to the attached liquor store. It's kind of a unique set up, but don't let that turn you off. read more

My family and I have been coming here for years! It's a little hole in the wall hidden on the side of a liquor store, on the north side, but they have the best burritos!! Made with fluffy homemade tortillas! read more

They're just doing takeout for the moment. They have a make shift service window set up on the 44th side of the building. There's a tent out there in case you wanted to eat your food ASAP. I ordered a breakfast burrito and made some mods to it. Well, I made one mod, I asked for potatoes to be added to their sausage breakfast burrito. Just so you know, adding potatoes is $4. With tax the sausage breakfast burrito with the added potatoes was $11. It was good but not $11 good. I'll wait until they reopen to give them another shot. Laterz... read more

My mom used to take me to Camargo Tamales Restaurant when I was a kid. I don't remember if it was in the 70's or 80's when I first went. For me, Camargo's is nostalgic. The food is a good representation of old school DenMex (the kind which the city has hemorrhaged since gentrification). It is straight forward, legit, good food, and rates high for that. Camargo's is a hole in the wall place which has historically been mainly a take-out joint, and should be reviewed with that in mind. I say that because I see some reviewers having expectations which really don't apply. Camargo's is a Denver-in-the-know kind of place; it appeals to locals, and must be respected as such. I guess what I am trying to say is: Camargo's food is good quality, tasty, reliable, and represents DenMex well (with homemade tortillas which is a vulnerability of many local Mexican places). It is not, however, intended to be what it is not, a like a sophisticated sit-down, service-oriented, other-region-of-Mexican-food, hipster place. read more

5 stars for the shrimp burro alone. Add the habanero salsa if you have guts of steel.

Cheap and delicious. I followed the cues from other reviewers and ordered the bean & cheese burrito smothered. The green chili sauce is not at all what I was expecting but was delicious. For the uninitiated among you it's a lot like a chunky gravy and well worth adding on. Spice level: mild. This burrito made a great breakfast the next day. I also had the shrimp burrito which was flavorful and a bit more spicy. It comes with onions and jalapeno. Absolutely recommend. The two burritos came to $10, so a good deal also. More of a take out joint, but there are tables in the main storefront and an adjoining dining area. read more

I've been coming to Camargo almost every Saturday morning for the past few years for a reason. There's a walk-up window and covered area to wait for your order which makes it easy to grab and go. The people who work here are always friendly and welcoming, and the breakfast burritos are one-of-a-kind. They're $4.50 before 8:30 am but worth so much more. I always get chorizo and egg, which comes with a thin layer of refried beans and chili in a thick homemade tortilla. They are delicious! Call ahead if you have a big order and they'll have it ready when you arrive. read more

Delicious bean burrito and an amazing tamale. All that for $6.10 (the burrito is a good size.) I went to my regular place and they had to close early so I walked around the corner here, and what a great surprise. Word is they have the best green chile and beans, so I'm really looking forward to trying that, and the breakfast burrito. The owner's son, Mike, was so friendly, too. read more

Best green chili in Denver, homemade tortillas!! If you are expecting anything other than amazing food you don't belong here. Family owned and I have been going here for of 30yrs. Hands down The best of the best. Always get the smothered bean deluxe. Ill switch it up sometimes to the Camargo Special. Been coming here since I was in my moms stomach 38yrs. Fresh beans ALWAYS, fresh homemade tortillas ALWAYS. Chile always on point never have to worry about one day it being to hot the next time being to mild. They stay consistent. Hope Mr. Camargo or his kids never sell. read more

The smothered Carne Desebrada burrito is the only thing I order...why mess with the perfect burrito. I always wonder how they make it - they disappear into the back, and in a few minutes...you get this amazing burrito. I usually order one in the pool (smothered), and one with chile inside. This way I can drop the other in the pool too. Mmmm, I love the chile inside and smothered combination. I just found $20 in my wallet...I know what I'm doing this week. read more

Go to Camargo's and order a dozen tamales (I am seriously salivating, just thinking about them!). Then proceed to eat half of them for lunch and give away the other half to spread the joy. I freakin' love their tamales. They are meaty, and although slightly on the greasy side according to some, delicious to me and my taste buds. I've also been told I need to eat a burrito from there before I die, so I'd better get on that. Because you never know when you're going to kick it. Authentic Mexican food. Yum. Squared. I break my budget for Camargo's! And I am one frugal mug. One dozen tamales is $10.25 after tax, which is perfect if you are paying with plastic, because they charge you ($.75?) for orders under $10. read more

Wish they would tell you they've raised the price for burritos, they were ok at $3.50. They are definitely not worth $4.50. Won't be going here again... read more

I was introduced to Camargo's tamales years ago when someone brought them to a work potluck. Hands down, the best tamales I have ever had. I usually get a couple dozen at a time and have never been disappointed. Ask for a plastic fork...you won't be able to get them home before you have to dive in! I have never actually sat and dined in the place, never had anything other than the tamales (why would I?), and yes, the decor is full-on overload, but I have always been treated kindly and the down-to-earth qualities are a pleasant surprise. Word to the wise: Around holiday time, pre-order your tamales! Order more than you need, freeze 'em, bring 'em out when you have a craving. Trust me....you will crave them for sure! read more

This place is an experience for sure. A small, hole in the wall staple in north Denver, the restaurant shares space with a liquor store (though ironically) doesn't sell alcohol, and has a small entrance that you could easily walk by. Once inside the place has one of the largest menus (actually there are 2 different ones) as well as meal options on posterboard hanging from the ceiling and walls touting the variety of menu options offered. The staff is very welcoming as well as confident in the their product. I'd agree the Mexican food is more Colorado/US style than traditional Mexican food, but it has all the staples at an affordable price. For those without dietary restrictions, it seems like the Camargo special is the way to go which features a humongous homemade flour tortilla wrapped in your choice of burrito fixings and with the option to deep fried. It is huge and looks like it would not disappoint. Serving sizes are fairly large (especially the burritos or combo deals) and salsa/guac/chips is nothing special so I would skip it and go straight for the main course. read more

First better tamales can be found at la casita! (Red and green) Second, their burritos are freaking expensive unless you get one of the weird ass combo's they have up at the designated times. There is NO CUSTOMER SERVICE period. The old guy who owns it and his son don't give a crap about it. It is such a random place half naked girl posters on the ceiling and in the dining area paintings of disney characters? wtf However they do have bad ass tortillas which is the only thing worth dealing with their surly attitudes for that and the shrimp burrito which is hot so if your a pansy don't even bother. You'll be on the toilet for days read more

An egg and chorizo burrito almost murdered me. I was worried I'd be sick for two days. The place was super filthy when I walked in. There was one guy eating who looked semi homeless. In the other room there were grown men watching cartoons in spanish. What a trip. The other reviewers that like this place are tough as sh*t. read more

The title says Tamales but the SIGNATURE DISH is the Bean Burrito Smothered in Green Chile sauce with Pork. It's UNBELEIVABLE!!! Best I ever had. (Burrito con Chile Verde) All the locals go there for this dish. Don't miss it. It's UNIQUE. All their food is excellent but the green chile is world class. VERY, VERY CASUAL. When you see the outside don't let it scare you away. When you go in you'll think you're in Tijuana. They do have a new really nice dining room connected. read more

Let's get the obvious out of the way - it's an old place, and looks rough on the inside and outside - the owner can be a cranky old cuss, but he's truly a good-hearted guy so just let it slide and be patient. If you can withhold your judgement on the 2 biggest offenses then you're in for some of Denver's most authentic and flavorful Mexican food. I have been going here for more then 20 years and it's always been the same. Beer posters with well endowed beer-maids on the ceiling, hand painted menu on the back wall, a cartoonish hand-painted mural of Denver, crappy plastic booths from some fast food joint that shuttered long ago, and pad-locked coolers with beverages kept safe from little hooligans from the neighborhood from taking them when the staff is hard at work in the back. FYI this is Denver Mexican, not Baja, not Southwest. Don't base your food expectations on some crappy fast food joint. The highlights of the menu are the basics (don't try to order some Chipotle/Doba ish here). My favorite, the beef & bean burrito, smothered/plain (amazing tortillas, beans with flavor, tender potatoes to add some heft, and the green chile..... it's perfection, not too hot, full of flavor and pork). Don't skip on the tamales or the rellenos. read more

I've been coming to this Northside staple for many years and Camargos never disappoints. From the fresh homemade tortillas to the flavorful pork green chile, the food is delicious. Smothered burritos are top notch and make it a deluxe where they add fresh cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. This is one of the few remaining authentic original North Denver Mexican food restaurants so don't miss out. And yes, from the outside it looks like a dive mess but it's what's on the inside that counts. read more

WARNING: IF YOU EAT THIS BURRITO - IT WILL RUIN ALL OTHER BURRITOS IN YOUR LIFE The CARNE DESEBRADA smothered is insane - I honestly drive 25 miles each way for this burrito. It is my secret little crazy on Saturdays. I order one smothered and another with chile inside. Then I put that one in the green chile bath with its big brother. I eat them with a spoon and knife - because I need a little bit of the chile sauce in every bite. THERE IS NO OTHER BURRITO IN DENVER LIKE THIS ONE. Weird thing, I have been eating this burrito for over 20 years. They take your order and disappear in the back 10-15 minutes later you pay and get the goods. WHO IS MAKING THIS STUFF BACK THERE. I'm guessing they have a group of little Abuelitas back there held hostage. It is the same everytime. CARNE DESEBRADA SMOTHERED!!! CARNE DESEBRADA SMOTHERED!!! If I was on death row, this is on my list as part of my last meal on earth. I literally cannot describe the cravings I have for this burrito. It will ruin all other burritos in your life. The food here is delicious! If it weren't for their tamale masa and their Chile Colorado, I would've stopped going here a long time ago. It's a family owned restaurant so all of the employees not only lack professionalism but are sometimes rude to the max. I've been putting up with their rude behavior for the last 23 years because like I said, their food is good. read more

Go somewhere else. This place is trash now. The service sucks and the food is no better. Spoke to a "manager" who confirmed that a 5$ burrito becomes a $12.5 burrito if you want lettuce and tomato. WHO DOES THAT?!? A Chili Relleno burrito with lettuce, tomato, cheese now $12.50?!?! and then if you want a small scoop of rice and beans that will cost you $4.50 each (at the time of this edit anyway) for a combined total of $21 for something you can get almost ANYWHERE else for $10!! The food was barely lukewarm, the cheese in the Relleno's was not even melted. My tamale was bland, falling apart dry and ICE COLD. Oh I should mention the beans were canned!! I have enough over the years to tell the difference. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. I would give it no stars if I could. 75$ for 3 burritos with rice beans...
